Summary: Good food, quick service, reasonable prices. -1 star because the food could be a little hotter.
Our party of 4 dropped in at 2pm on saturday and were seated immediately. I've read that other reviewers have stated the food wasn't coming out quickly enough, and I am seeing some improvements.
We ordered via the QR code: 6 dishes and a rice. Food started coming out in 10 minutes. Dishes came out pretty constantly, so we were never staring at an empty dish, waiting for the next. I'd gladly wait an extra 2-3 minutes per dish if they can get them to us a little bit hotter.
1. Beef chowfun- standard flavor. Tender beef. Noodles were a little more soggy than I would have liked. It lacks wok hei, as it didn't come out pipin' hot. It was a little warmer than what you call warm, but just wasn't hot like it's supposed to be.
2. Shrimp, pork, chive dumplings- these were made to order and delicious. Ingredients tasted fresh, the filling size was appropriate, and the skins were thin but sturdy. Again, this dish can be a little hotter.
3. Sauteed string beans- tastes fried like it's supposed to, but again lacks wok hei (not hot enough). I do appreciate that they kept this plain and less seasoned, as I use it to balance all the other flavorful dishes
4. Pork sparerib with sweet and sour sauce- crispy, sweet, and tangy. Definitely a safe reliable dish. This one was our husbands' favorite.
5. Beef pancake roll- this one was a surprise. I didn't expect it to be sweet but it worked well. The filling was mainly beef shank slices, cabbage, and hoisin sauce. It reminds me of peking duck. The pancake was thin and crispy. My taiwanese friend quite enjoyed this one. The portions are pretty big too.
6. Pork xiao long bao- this one was my favorite. It was the only thing that came out pipin' hot. The filling was fresh and generous. The soup inside was delicious. The true skill is in making of the skin; it was thin but sturdy enough to hold the filling and the soup. It did not tear when I picked it up with chopsticks. *applause* My dad goes to the well-known large XLB chain restaurant from time to time and always complains that their XLB gets smaller and smaller. But not here! And I hope they keep it this way. This dish was a winner for me.
I would definitely come back next time to try their beef noodle soup, pan fried buns, and pan fried dumplings.
Oh, the bill was $95 + tip, for 4 people, and we had leftovers to take home.
