Every MICHELIN-Star Restaurant in São Paulo

"At this legendary spot I tasted what the guide calls the city's finest nigiri, a jewel of São Paulo's reverent Japanese tradition." - The MICHELIN Guide

"A highly unusual restaurant that could almost pass unnoticed as it has no external signage to show that it exists! Here, everything revolves around owner-chef Sakamoto, a man with lots of personality who is said to make the best nigiri in São Paulo. If you have the opportunity, we recommend sitting at the sushi bar, where the focus is on two Omakase tasting menus – one prepared by Jun Sakamoto himself, the other by his right-hand man, chef Ryuzo Nishimura (the price of the menu will depend on which of them does the cooking). For those sitting at the bar, the nigiris (such as yellowfin tuna, salmon from Rio de Janeiro with a light citrus glaze, yellowtail from Argentina with confit lemon, sea bass with a shiso glaze, red snapper with a dash of plum preserve and sesame seeds etc) are served individually as soon as they are ready, while at the table they are served plated and presented two at a time." - Michelin Inspector

São Paulo, a Global Capital for Japanese Cuisine

"Master-chef Sakamoto is celebrated for elevating nigiri to a culinary art form. At his eponymous restaurant, he serves sushi made with perfectly crafted rice and fresh, seasonal fish, ensuring that every bite is a complete sensory experience. His tasting menu ranges from tuna tartare with karasumi roe to nigiri featuring sea bass, red snapper, and other selections that Sakamoto and his right-hand man, Chef Ryuzo Nishimura, decide on that evening. With its discreet ambiance (don’t expect to find the restaurant’s name outside), the establishment has earned One MICHELIN Star for its exquisite cuisine." - The MICHELIN Guide

Jun Sakamoto

"Thanks to his larger-than-life personality, Leonardo Jun Sakamoto has left his unmistakable mark on this discreet restaurant where you won’t find any signage. Here, you will savour what may well be the finest nigiri in the city. Of course, it is all best enjoyed seated at the sushi bar—with a front-row view of items being artfully prepared by these chefs. Prices vary depending on whether the master or his equally skilful right-hand man, Ryuzo Nishimura, crafts the dishes. Reservations are a must." - Michelin Inspector

Yun Sakamoto Omakase – A true gem of Japanese gastronomy in São Paulo This is a jewel of Japanese cuisine in São Paulo. The restaurant is small, but what it lacks in size, it more than makes up for in flavor and craftsmanship. Every dish was impeccably fresh and beautifully prepared, and the service was warm and attentive. If you’re a true lover of Japanese gastronomy, this is a spot you shouldn’t miss while in São Paulo. An intimate and memorable omakase experience.

Google
Amazing Omakase in São Paulo. Worth all the hype, and definitely deserves its Michelin star. Food was excellent, great atmosphere, and Jun also happens to be a really nice guy.

Google
I had high hopes for Jun Sakamoto, especially given its Michelin star status, but unfortunately, I feel it didn’t fully meet expectations. While the presentation and craftsmanship of the dishes were commendable, I found the experience to be overpriced for what was delivered. The sushi was undoubtedly fresh and well-prepared, but there wasn’t enough of a “wow factor” to justify the premium cost. Beyond the food, the service felt a bit cold and impersonal, which took away from the warm, intimate atmosphere you’d expect at a fine dining establishment of this caliber. While I respect the skill involved, I left feeling that the experience didn’t live up fully to its reputation especially for the price.

Google
Jun Sakamoto offers a stunning array of carefully crafted dishes poised to surprise and wow guests. From the outside, the restaurant seems to be a garage rather than a restaurant, however, once the doors open, guests are greeted with a zen style garden deco, floor to ceiling windows and of course, the famous chefs. Once seated, the meals equally wowed. From the small appetizer of steamed squid with roe to the blue fin tuna, each piece of food was crafted with care and a strong attention to detail. The dessert wasn’t much to write home about, a rather simple green apple ice cream. Overall the restaurant offers an experience deserving of its one star status.

Google
Jun Sakamoto in São Paulo offers an extraordinary omakase experience, seamlessly blending precision and artistry in every course. The service is impeccable, with the staff attentive to detail without being intrusive, guiding you through each dish with a genuine passion for the ingredients and flavors. The omakase itself is well-balanced, offering a harmonious progression of flavors and textures that showcases the chef’s expertise and respect for traditional techniques while introducing subtle, modern touches. From the quality of the seafood to the elegant plating, every aspect of the experience feels meticulously crafted. For anyone looking for an authentic, high-quality omakase in São Paulo, Jun Sakamoto is a standout choice that delivers an exceptional dining experience.

Google
Fantastic food! Impeccable service. Jun was very attentive and took the time to chat with us (about a lot of topics). After listening from him about all the tricks and techniques he has to employ to deliver superb quality it’s easier to understand why his restaurant is so successful! For another 20+ years!!

Google
The service is nice. The restaurant atmosphere is nice. The courses are almost all sushi. The sushi pieces were all soaked in some sweet soy sauce, which is weird, covering up the taste of the fresh fish. The selection of the fishes tonight didn't contain anything special.

Google
We went for omakase with chef Ryuzo Nishimura, who was great all around, very attentive service, pleasant and was probably the only person in the restaurant that spoke English. Food was what you would expect in a 1* restaurant, very classic edomae style sushi, and produce was great. Although, the serious complaint is that they do not use real wasabi, which should be a must for a such restaurant and at this price point. Omakase menu is farily priced at about 120 EUR per person, while wine markup was insanely high - more than double the price than what it should be in a restaurant. The restaurant didn't have a sommelier or a good wine list for that matter. Overall if you skip the wine, I would recommend this restaurant as a good choice.

Yelp
This review was pre-COVID (Nov/2020) This was the best experience I've ever had eating sushi. Omakase is an experience in itself but Jun makes it remarkable. I've been to Michelin restaurants before and I have never talked to the head chef as much as I did when dinning at his restaurant. He is extremely friendly, personable and funny - and obviously very knowledgeable about what he does. Also, please keep in mind this is a Michelin restaurant. Jun has worked his a** off and made his name for a reason. Quality comes with a price. Excellence comes with an even higher price. Remember you're paying for all that. I will definitely come back not only for the food - we knew that would be amazing - but Jun makes it an experience you won't forget. Parabéns Jun!

Yelp
Harsh reviews here on yelp. Outstanding sushi here, with some being world class. Wish the had wine by the glass though... prices are similar what you'd expect in the US though

Yelp
Stop everything! This is what true Japanese food is all about. Forget about anything you've eaten up to this point and start brand new. You have NO IDEA the richness of flavor, the amazing combinations, the super tasty fish options, the presentation and the ambience. TOTALLY recommend it.

Yelp
This is supposed to be the best Japanese place in town- not so! My husband took me there for my birthday. We had a reservation for the sushi bar and when we got there had to wait close to an hour to actually get a seat. The food was really not great- some of the fish was clearly not the fresh. The last dish was an oyster soup and the oyster was awful- most definitely not fresh. Jun was there himself serving this sub-par food. It was a true disappointment. The only thing that was nice was the sake. I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone, even if it was cheap I still wouldn't go!

Yelp
Arguably the best Japanese restaurant in the city. Authentic, fresh food and skilled sushi chefs: haute gastronomie at its haughtiest!
