Jun Won Review - Koreatown - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Many restaurants in Koreatown get by on a specialty dish or the allure of packing large groups into booths with BBQ grills. Jun Won does neither. This casual, family-run spot has an excellent menu full of everything from bossam (boiled pork belly) to steamed cod and oysters. It’s all good, and even better - you can usually get a seat right away." - Brant Cox

Koreatown’s Jun Won Restaurant Is Closing This Week Due to the Pandemic - Eater LA

"The strain of the COVID-19 pandemic is starting to take its toll on Koreatown, which will lose one of its most cherished Korean restaurants, Jun Won, at the end of this week. The homestyle restaurant founded by Jung Ye Jun and operated along with her son Jeff Jun, Jun Won had only recently reopened in a new location along Western Avenue in 2016. Previously Jun Won had occupied a space along 8th Street for over twenty years, making it one of the most successful and longest running traditional Korean restaurants. Jun Won also had a banchan store on 8th Street that closed a few years ago despite producing some of the city’s best Korean prepared dishes." - Matthew Kang

This place has delicious seafood pancake. The braised ribs were perfect. So tender and well seasoned. The pollock casserole was okay, a bit too fishy. I gave it four star because our first waiter, tall younger guy, basically ignored us even after we waved him down to get our order. The lady was nicer and tried to explained what's good and what to do with the leftover.

Still the most incredible Steamed cod. The new location is in an interesting Plaza but the food is still first rate. The steamed cod is incredible, moist and flavorful. The buttery nature of the cod comes through the kochujang onion sauce and is perfectly balanced. The spicy crab is another favorite and the service is always polite if not a little rushed! There is almost always a wait, so factor that into your time and use the valet instead of looking fur street parking. It's only $2. Highly recommended.

The first time I went there, it was very tasty as a rumor. It was the right moment to feel the taste of the Republic of Korea. The best. 정말 맛있다.

I ordered the Pollack Casserole, $13.95. big bowl of very tasty broth with several chunks of Pollack, bok choy-like greens, two kinds of mushrooms, soft tofu and a solid white veggie - not sure what it was. Then came 9 small plates each with a different veggie in it's own sauce, a small salad of greens with a mildly sweet dressing and a small bowl of sticky rice. Quite an adventure for someone who has not had this before. The waiter was very thoughtful in helping me to eat it correctly. He also gave me a glass of tea even though I didn't order a drink. Nice gesture.

This is one of only a few Korean restaurants that do not pour in MSG, so the taste is so authentic. All the side dishes are awesome, such a pleasurable experiences pampering my taste buds. Whoever has taste for authentic Korean cuisine must try this restaurant. Interior is perhaps not that appealing to non-Koreans, but it is very clean and hygienic with A rating. Of hundreds of Korean restaurants in K-Town in LA, this is only a few restaurants I can recommend without hesitation or reservation.

This is the place to go for real Korean food made by a real Korean mom. Not a Korean BBQ restaurant with loud techno music. My wife says the food here is what your good Korean mom would make you on your birthday. I used to go once a week even though it's an hour away with traffic. I just wish I had more time to go more often. Jeff, his mom and the staff treat everyone like family.

We had the steamed cod (I’m guessing it was black cod) and it was outrageously good. The steamed cod was on top of huge radishes and covered in a sort of spicy red mixture/sauce. Wow, it was delicious. We also got a sort of mild flavored beef dish that was also delicious. I’d go back again to try the rest of the menu.

The steamed black cod was delicious, the sauce did not overpower the flavor of the fish. We got 4 steaks, along with 4 large daikon discs with the order, so I felt it was plenty for two people to share (especially with the banchan). Service was also very good, our server came by frequently to refill dishes and drinks. A little spendy, but the taste was worth it
