Where to Find Delectable Pastries in Wicker Park and West Town

"Junebug Cafe owners Jacqueline Mancias and Chris Murphy have dedicated themselves to crafting the perfect beignet —New Orleans’ famous, fluffy fried treats generously dusted in powdered sugar. The pair say it took about a year to perfect their recipe and now Chicagoans beat a path to their cafes in West Town and Six Corners to savor the fruits of their labor. Patrons can also find meat pies and great gumbo." - Naomi Waxman

Cafe au lait, Southern style and fresh warm beignet? Yes please. Chris and his team are legacy, next generation connected to Poor Phil's in Oak Park. They take care and pride in Cajun style cooking. Their gumbo starts with a handmade dark roux. Legitimately delicious.

First time here. We had the beignets which were bigger than expected. I had the biscuit which was good. My bf had the gumbo which was really good and the chicago cajun po'boy.

Great little spot to pick up a bite, a coffee, and read/study/ or work for a bit. The food was delicious but a bit on the smaller side for my taste. Nothing to hold me back from visiting again. I definitely recommend if you are in the area. Check it out!

Ate the food too quickly to take a picture!! The beignets on beignet days were fluffy, generous on the powdered sugar as it should be, and delicious. The bacon, egg, and cheese biscuit sandwich was yummy! Perfectly cooked bacon (best I've had in a while) and eggs, and biscuit was soft and buttery. The meat pie was also awesome; the filling was very flavorful. The service was very friendly! And the bathroom was super clean (I stopped by the restroom first and was impressed!) 10/10

OMG this place is a must try it if you have not had the experience of chewing a warm beignet which is the closest thing to New Orleans beignets you’re gonna get. Hot fresh beignets with lavender lemonade absolutely delicious. Try it for yourself. You wont be disappointed.

Gumbo was amazing, beignets have always been fresh, and I love the bean hand pie. Been here several times and gumbo has been a little inconsistent but when it’s good, it’s really good

Warm, well-seasoned and savory meat pie ($6), thin crust and decent amount of filling. Added the creole remoulade to every bite, it was super creamy with a slight tang. Wish the meat pie was a bit bigger for the price but will definitely be back! Great for a quick bite on a cold day.
