Juniper - Review - Nob Hill - San Francisco - The Infatuation

"Juniper, opened by the owners of Saint Frank Coffee, is a Nob Hill bakery serving some of the city’s greatest croissants. Ask any of the staff members and they’ll tell everyone in their long lines to get the cubano croissant—it’s stowing away a mound of mojo pork, ham, pickles, gruyère, and french mustard under its crispy exterior. While it’s solid, the flavors can get muddled, especially if it’s not fresh out of the oven, which requires getting there right as the doors open. Nowhere else in the city has a croissant like this, so get it if you’re curious. Otherwise, we suggest going sweet and getting the twice-baked raspberry and almond croissant, which is just as airy, crisp, and chewy as the cubano, but more balanced. But the best thing on their menu is not a croissant at all—it’s the black sesame kouign-amann. The spiral layers shatter into translucent shards after each bite, and every crevice is smeared with black sesame." - Patrick Wong

16 Essential Bakeries in San Francisco

"Saint Frank is known for its coffee, but with the opening of its bakery Juniper, the team is hoping it’ll also become known for its pastries. Fine-dining pastry chef Andrea Correa of Parallel 37 consulted and set Juniper up with a choux-forward menu using the French pastry shell as a base for sweet and savory versions of the treat — think a tiramisu-inspired version, the “tiramichoux” or a Parmesan-anchovy choux. But there are non-choux reasons to visit, such as the juniper lemon escargot (the sweet pastry, not the snail) and the Cubano croissant with mojo pork, ham, and whole grain mustard." - Lauren Saria, Dianne de Guzman, Becky Duffett

One of my mildly guilty pleasures is wandering around SF hunting down great croissants—and Juniper totally gets me 😍 A coffee shop near me stocks their pastries, and after one too many flaky encounters, I had to go straight to the source. Worth it. Buttery, flaky, so good. Their chocolate 🥐? My Sunday morning off late. The choux? Not plagued by sugar and looks so sweet.

Google
Really delicious raspberry almond croissant. Perfectly flaky, sweet and sharp jam and a crisp cookie frangipane. Can’t wait to return to try more. Seating is somewhat limited and it is not the best for parents with strollers.

Been hearing about this place for a while so I was excited to try it! There was a small line when we came but we got in pretty quickly. We ordered a plain croissant and a chocolate croissant. The plain was pretty good! I did feel it was extra buttery compared to some other croissants I’ve had. But it was still delicious! I wasn’t as big a fan of the chocolate croissant. The chocolate felt a bit more bitter to me so I didn’t enjoy it as much. Still a flaky croissant though! I would like to come back and try another savory croissant next.

Let me just say Juniper seriously gets it right. I popped in on a sunny morning and ordered the avocado toast, and I’m still thinking about it. This wasn’t your basic avo toast situation—it was layered with flavor, texture, and care. Creamy avocado spread thick on perfectly toasted bread (crisp on the edges, soft in the middle), topped with fresh herbs, and just the right touch of citrus. Every bite was magic. The space itself is warm and inviting, and you can tell the team takes pride in what they’re doing. Everything felt intentional. I didn’t expect to be blown away by avocado toast of all things, but here we are. It’s that good. If you’re in San Francisco, do yourself a favor and stop by. Juniper’s the real deal.

Google
Some of the most beautiful croissants I have ever seen. Also that corn pastry (pictured below) they were making when we were there was very yummy but I don't know what it's called

Google
A chill destination and or neighborhood spot. Airly space on the corner of Polk and Pine. Good selection of craft baked goods and other goodies. Full coffee service and tea. Friendly accommodating staff. Contemporary indie music fills the room. Clean and modern. Tables and a counter line the side. Almond raspberry croissant had soft interior bursting with raspberry puree and a crunchy hard crust. A well maintained bathroom conveniently next to the dining area.

진짜 맛있움 라즈베리크로아상이랑 흑임자 퀸아망이 미챴어요 왕친절함 EVERYTHING THEY HAD WAS SO GOOD😭 Tried the raspberry croissant, black sesame quin amant, all three kinds of choux, and orange cinammon sticky bun and they were all so good can't tell which one is the best but if I had to choose just one ( actually two)I'd go for the raspberry croissant & the black sesame quin amant but honestly I'd rather get everything lol + staffs are super friendly!!!!!!!!

Google
Cute bakery with a great selection. The raspberry croissant was just the right amount of sweet and the breakfast sandwich was yummy and fresh. Cappuccino and iced latte were both very good too!

Yelp
This place won best croissant in SF for a reason. All the pastries are perfectly flaky and crispy on the outside but nice and soft on the inside. I've tried the: - cubano croissant - great savory pastry - raspberry almond croissant - perfect balance of sweetness vs tartness of the raspberry filling - black sesame kouign amann - killer combo of flavors - pain au chocolat - a classic but executed flawlessly. great real chocolate flavor The non food details: - Prices are $5-9 per baked good and well worth it. - Metered street parking only. - Staff was super helpful when I was trying to decide what to get. Will definitely come again!

Yelp
Recently walked by after my Thai massage and on my way to my favorite hole-in-the-wall restaurant to meet a friend. Everything looks delicious, where do I begin? Got one of their Cubano croissants, a croissant loaf and a few other things. The lady helping me was super sweet and gifted me an orange muffin. The croissants were tasty and had a crunchy exterior. Not as buttery as Ariscault's. We like both places but these aren't as heavy in the tummy after indulging. I shared some of these with my friend and brought some home to my husband. I think I got a few people in the restaurant we were in intrigued about these goodies because they asked me where I went and whether they are good. Delicious! Next time I will come back to try their drinks, too. Located on Polk and Pine.

Yelp
I've wanted to try Juniper for a while, and now that I have, I can't say I was missing out on much. My friend and I stopped by at 8:30 am to grab some fresh croissants. However, we both thought the traditional croissant was dense and dry - slightly stale, even. The pain au chocolat was the better of the two, but the chocolate tasted a bit dry and it wasn't as flaky, airy, or buttery as I hoped. I also wish the pastries were served warm. Personally, I don't regret trying Juniper but I'm not rushing to come back.

Yelp
Had a chance to try Juniper after seeing them all over Tiktok & seeing the awards that they won! This is a cute bakery That is famous for their plain crossaint & the Cubano. Unfortunately by the time we got there the Cuban was sold out! For our order - we got: *Raspberry almond crossaint - this was delicious and loved the jammy interior from the raspberry jam which was delish with the crunchy chewiness from the croissant and almonds * ham & Cheese - I loved this croissant and scarfed it down so quickly it was THAT good. IT was nice, buttery and flakey with the perfect amount of ham and cheese. Would totally get this again! Overall, besides arsicault, this is probably the other bakery I would recommend if visiting SF!

Yelp
I was looking for a coffee house close by to my errands and Yelp led me to Juniper. Initially I was going to get their matcha latte, but I saw they had a pumpkin latte. While it's originally made with coffee, I asked as yes, one of the non-coffee people if they could make it as a steamer. I'm so glad they abliged as the pumpkin puree was perfect and made me feel like I had truly entered the fall season. I would definitely recommend that drink in the future. Also, when I arrived I noticed there were a pleathora of crossiants still available for purchase. While I didn't eat it onsite. I enjoyed the chocolate crossiant which had a nice flanky texture. I would definitely return when running errands in the area again.

Yelp
Outstanding service from the person who took my order. Delicious pastries and a nice place to sit and hang out a bit. Very glad we visited.

Yelp
I decided to tag along with my coworker since she wanted to stop by for some coffee. It was my first time here, so I was excited to stop by to take a look since it is really close to my work. I am not a coffee drinker, but I love pastries & croissants. The coffee shop is very spacious with lots of seats available. I noticed a lot of people with their laptops working. I noticed that they had a wide selection but wasn't sure what to get, so I asked the employee. She said she really liked the Black Sesame Kouign-Amann, so I decided to get one. I couldn't really taste the black sesame but the crust was extremely crispy. My coworker ordered a matcha latte and said it was delicious. I will be back again to try their chocolate croissant and matcha/chai latte. I think I've found one of my favorite pastries spots in the city!

Yelp
Can't remember why I had this spot on my bookmarks, but I'm glad I do! Right along Polk St is this cute spot that has some of the most flakiest, tasty pastries I've had. I came around 10am on a Thursday and it was busy. A lot of goodies had already sold out and all the seating was packed :-( Luckily I was able to snag a hazelnut choux and a black sesame kouign amann. Both were so delicious and gave me a new appreciation for pastries - I don't know how they've perfected the kouign amann but the flavor and flakiness blew my mind. I can't wait to come back and try out their other pastries. Everything seems promising! UPDATE: I went back recently and got iced matcha latte, pain au chocolat, and the chia seed pudding. They have high quality matcha and OH BOY the pain au chocolat was HEAVEN!

Yelp
A friend and I visited Juniper on a Friday at 7:40 AM. There was a line, but it wasn't out the door yet, and the cafe still had plenty of open tables for seating. Upon walking in, we were greeted with an intoxicating buttery aroma. I ordered four pastries (traditional croissant, Cubano croissant, pain au chocolat, black sesame kouign amann) and three choux pastries (juniper lemon, hazelnut chocolate passionfruit, caramel apple) totalling $37. All the pastries were divine. The laminated dough was light, airy, flaky, and buttery without an overly oily/greasy feel. Juniper's traditional croissant and Cubano croissant are award winners, and once you take a bite of either, you'll taste why. Nothing beats the traditional, but the Cubano had an interesting twist on a savory pastry; I liked how the ingredients (pork, ham, cheese, mustard, pickle) were kept to a minimum so it didn't affect the rise of the laminated dough. I loved the black sesame kouign amann as well, which had just the right amount of sesame paste for nuttiness, yet the dough was still airy and buttery and not too hard from the sugar crust. The choux pastries were delicious as well, perfectly two-bite sized. I enjoyed the crispy, sweet craquelin top and each flavor were distinct and unique. Seasonal favors rotate, so I'm excited to try others. Juniper's staff is friendly and helpful if you need assistance deciding what to order. It's a cute, modern cafe that's just a bit cramped when the line gets too long since the cafe is relatively narrow. One red flag I observed during my visit was one of their sheet pan racks full of baked croissants was parked too close to the line that a customer's dog was sniffing it; luckily dog owner was observant and pulled his pup away, but I can't say other customers are as vigilant. Nevertheless, I'd definitely return to Juniper, and recommend going on a weekday morning within 30 minutes of opening for the freshest pastries and shortest line.

Yelp
Top tier croissants in the city. My favorite is by far the mushroom danish, with so many delicate layers and a rich and earthy center filling. I also loved the cubano, the chocolate croissant, and the black sesame croissant loaf. The only miss I've had here is the raspberry almond croissant, which I thought was too dry. Such great vibes inside so I'd def recommend grabbing a seat if you can. It can get pretty busy in the morning!
google avatar

Brandon Y.

Yelp
I can confidently say this is the best croissant I've had in my life. It's delicate crunchy yet moist and buttery. It was so good I went three days in a row. Staff is excellent. Vibes are more coffee shop but awesome nevertheless. Not sure if I can go back to croissants anywhere else.
google avatar

Yelp
Cubano Croissant: fun twist on your standard croissant with a ton of flavor from the meat to the cheese to the pickle even. The croissant itself was a bit dry after they reheated it. I knew I had to give this place a try after I heard they won the croissant competition. They have some of the prettiest flaky pastries in the city and I can't wait to go back to try the black sesame kouign-amann. I ended up ordering the Cubano Croissant and they were nice enough to reheat the croissant too. All in all, a great bakery to drop by when you're in Nob Hill. Is it better than Arsicault (my personal favorite)? Not for me personally but I think it's certainly worth a visit whenever you're in the part of town and looking for croissants
google avatar

Siobhan A.

Yelp
Juniper deserves all the hype and I'm not at all surprised they won best croissant in SF. I haven't had to make the trek to Arsicault since I tried Juniper. Favorites include (but are absolutely not limited to): - ham and cheese croissant: flaky, creamy, perfect - Cubano croissant: innovative, balanced, huge portion - banana muffin: literally the perfect muffin, moist, nice crumb, great crumble on top They have plenty of seating, so if you don't mind the noise and the line, this could be a good place to get some work done. The staff is super friendly and they get the line moving quickly. Prices are up there, but portions are generous and it's literally the best croissant in SF!
google avatar

Jordan L.

Yelp
No surprise this place is five stars - their plain croissant won best croissant in SF.. maybe in the nation?! I opted to try a few different pastries, all were delicious! I think my favorite was the ham and cheese, followed by the chocolate croissant and then the orange cinnamon sticky bun. The staff were very kind and there is limited seating inside. They also have water cups which feels essential to me when eating a tasty pastry! This place rivals Arsicault and the line was not as long. I'm sure we'll be back!
google avatar

Tasha H.

Yelp
Utterly delightful. Can't go wrong with anything in the pastry case! We arrived around 945a on Saturday and there was just a short line that did not even extend past the door. By 11a the line was a bit longer but still less than 10min wait time. Really beautiful and some unique viennoiserie and pastries, all of which I thoroughly enjoyed. The mushroom danish cannot be missed!!! Hazelnut passion fruit choux is quite special, passion fruit filling is tart and flavorful and the slight crisp of hazelnut was just delicious. Chocolate croissant has THREE bars of excellent chocolate and is perfect with coffee. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Croissant - It's good. Like most good croissant places. I've had it more buttery not that's any better or worse. Cuban - The marinated pork is interesting, almost taste like it has done yuzu in it. The pickles and ham just right. It's great combo in flavor, no wonder it's award winning. Hazelnut Choux Juniper lemon choux

Yelp
Crossaints are a staple in my morning breakfast rotations, so I had the highest expectations going into Juniper being deemed "SF's best crossaint 2024" wondering is this just internet hype or is it a smack? Well, indeed, it is a smack. I got a box with the cubano, tomato jalapeño pastry, ham and cheese, blueberry muffin, and a classic crossaint of course to see how it matches up against the many crossaints I've consumed in this lifetime and it outmatches all. Each bite was soft, crunchy and flakey. Almost like biting into buttery air with an incredibly soft firm middle that took no effort to tear or bite into. The other pastries are filled with the flavors that make up their design. No skimming on ingredients or quality there either. The cubano was interesting at first because of the pickle, however, the pickle of course is needed to make it a cubano from just your regular ham and cheese, and ended up my winner outside of the crossaint. The guyere really stood out in the ham and cheese and the tomato jalapeño was more spicier than I expected it to be with the real kick coming from the tomatoes somehow. The blueberry muffin had some kind of cream on the inside, which I wasn't expecting so it wasn't a hit for me but it tasted good so just preference for me. The place is clean, simple and modern and staff was friendly and quick to box. No line for me at 9am on Saturday but YMMV as the line picked up out the door by the time I was rung up. Cute spot to grab a crossaint and get a coffee while taking in the early morning downtown sun. Walking out with my box, I mouthed the word "amazing" as I rubbed my belly and waited to cross the street. The man across from me stared as I said it, then I watched him switch course towards Juniper and walked inside. Amazing.

Yelp
My roommate brought me back some choux pastries, and they're so unique in flavor. My favorite is definitely the chocolate but the lemon and nectarine runs were so interesting. The presentation is also beautiful.
google avatar

Sandy B.

Yelp
My favorite BUTTER croissant in SF. It hits everything a butter croissant needs to be. Flaky, soft, airy and with a hint of sweetness inside. Perfection! Everything else I had was just alright. Their coffee is good because it's saint franks but for coffee, I do love the original location the most. I do love the blue they use for their marketing. I got there after 10am and no line on a Friday.
google avatar

Renee L.

Yelp
I stopped by this place after a run and ordered the pain au chocolate and the chocolate espresso cookie. Pain Au Chocolate (5/5) So good! It had a great crunch and I appreciated that it had 3 chocolate sticks rather than 2, which what most chocolate croissants have. It was so very pretty and I loved the layers. Chocolate Espresso cookie (4/5) Yummy! Not mind blowing but a solid cookie. Not too sweet and I liked the hint of espresso. I do wish it was bigger. I wanted to order more but restrained myself. Next time will try the Cubano and their coffee.
google avatar

Angela D.

Yelp
Go for the Cubano!!! Wait is out the door but it moves relatively quickly. The pro of waiting in line is if the pastries are being baked and you get them fresh out of the oven! (That happened when I went!) Attentive staff. Would come back to try other pastries/coffee!
google avatar

Jacquelyn C.

Yelp
Honestly expected so much better from sf's "best croissant of the year". In general, all tasted maybe a day old, weren't very flakey, and were just kind of average compared to other S.F. places. We got those: - raspberry almond: probably my favorite, though not as elevated as I thought it'd be. - ham and cheese: also good I think because we for one fresh. Even though straight out the oven though, it still wasn't that flakey as a good croissant should be. Just warm - tomato jalapeño: pretty good - black sesame cruffin: least favorite Other notes: - has street meter parking - fast service - semi limited seating since it gets busy I wouldn't come back only because I've been spoiled by other sf croissants
google avatar

Cidney L.

Yelp
Come here for the pastries!! My friend and I tried the black sesame kouign amann and ham and cheese croissant. I would get both again. There's definitely a lot of butter being used to get it so flaky yet dense. Didn't try a drink this time but it looks like they're brewing saint frank beans! They also had samples of the black sesame loaf at the checkout counter. There was a long line out the door on a Saturday morning but it was moving at a steady pace. There are limited tables and bar/standing room.
google avatar

Katja K.

Yelp
Incredibly buttery, flaky baked goods that are worth the wait. There's a long line on weekends and limited seating, but overall, it's a great spot to check out!
google avatar

Karlee J.

Yelp
THIS PLACE IS AMAZING! I love a croissant so when I heard they won best in the city I had to come check it out. There is a reason this place won! It's amazing! All 3 we tried were delicious! Cubano- not my personal favorite but a fun one to try! I loved the pickle in it (my husband not so much) but lots of good flavors Chocolate croissant- WOW fresh out of the oven and sooo good and flaky! MY FAV was the seasonal pink apple danish!!! Wow!!! It was perfect! Flaky, sweet, lightly tart with a perfect glaze! Will be hyping this place up to everyone I know and sending friends!

Yelp
Cute small bakery on Polk. We went on a Saturday at 9am and surprisingly there was no line! The line got long around 9:15 though. We were able to snag a cubano croissant, the black sesame kouign amann, and an elote danish. Favorites were the cubano croissant and the black sesame kouign amann -- although the elote one was delicious too! I'm not a big mustard fan but the cubano croissant had a good level of it; not too strong but enough to give a hint of flavor. The meat inside is really good too! Def a must try. The black sesame pastry was not too sweet and had a subtle black sesame flavor (not super overpowering). All pastries were super crispy and flaky and buttery! So glad I finally came here. Super fast service and a good amount of seating inside, although the space is pretty small.
google avatar

Ajay K.

Yelp
Came in on a Tuesday around 12 and there was no line and everything I wanted was in stock. The space itself is large and airy and great to just hang out and grab a drink and pastry. I got the avocado toast for lunch and a black sesame kouign aman. The avo was perfectly mushy with some cucumber and radish added on top. It came with a very large slice of bread that filled me up. The kouign aman was light and crunchy - paired well with the black sesame flavor. I could have just eaten some of that black sesame paste plain - it was so good!
google avatar

Christina L.

Yelp
Oh juniper :) it's a stop that's not too far from me and always has a line of people waiting for their baked goods. I've tended to like their savory pastries much more than sweet! I think the ambiance can be a little busy sometimes, doesn't have quite the steady chill vibe as other spots. Other than that try the Cubano and mushroom pastries!!
google avatar

Yelp
All I can say is the hype is real. While there was not a single item I didn't find delicious between the various flavored croissants and cookies, I will say the butter croissant is the real standout. Having only been here one time after observing an abnormally short line, my wife and I rushed over and found ourselves steps away from the showcase. The line itself moved fairly quickly. Being indecisive, we opted for several items, which included the butter croissant. The level of execution here is particularly high with everything. I frequent backhaus quite a bit and I found the items here slightly more favorable in terms of the balance. In particular, the butter croissant has an intoxicating aroma of perfectly cooked yeast intertwined with the most delicious and layered butter. The cookies were also excellent, having the thinnest but also pronounced crispness on the exterior while having the perfect level of toothiness throughout. Service here was quick as it should be since they have to serve so many customers, but if you have any questions the folks were more than happy to help. Coffee service here was also very good. It's been over a week and I still couldn't get this croissant out of my head. While I won't drive into the city, circle around/pay for parking for this. I could see myself making a detour to get another crack at the butter croissant which is a "great success" as Borat would say.

Yelp
It's a hard time to be a croissanterie in the city - there's just so much competition out there! Juniper first hopped on my radar when I saw they won best croissant in SF last year. The title alone was enough to get me in the door. They have a wonderful display of scratchmade breads and pastries, most notably their variety of croissants and choux puffs! They also have a full espresso bar serving craft coffee drinks. They were sold out of the black sesame kouign-amann that I had seen pics of all over Yelp. We decided to share a breakfast sandwich (made from one of their butter croissants of course) and yuzu & nectarine choux. The sandwich was perfectly balanced in flavor and the buttery crispy croissant goodness really amped it up. Will I say it's the best croissant I've ever had? Not necessarily; I do think there are plenty of comparable spots in the area. But it was delicious and relatively quick, so I'd highly recommend. We also tried the orange pandan latte - it was creamy and delicious, reminded me of an orange creamsicle with an espresso shot! I would definitely come back to try one of their fall seasonal offerings. The staff were super friendly and accommodating for food modifications. The line can get pretty long, but it is a smaller, more to-go space with only a few indoor tables, so unless people were lined up down the block, I wouldn't anticipate super long wait times. We went on a weekend morning and it wasn't bad at all - we even managed to snag a seat after a party before us left!
google avatar

Rachel K.

Yelp
My friend and I stopped by for a croissant and coffee. The croissants were so so delicious. Perfectly crispy and flaky. The raspberry croissant had the perfect amount of raspberry filling. There was somewhat of a line on Saturday morning but the wait wasn't too long.

Yelp
Super tasty Cubano, and chocolate croissant!!! Is there a line? Yes. Is it worth it? Definitely. Went back two days in a row! Totally worth it!!!

Yelp
Award winning croissants?! And you know it's nice when the place doesn't have an explicit "Sign" outside the door, just a small one, so be sure to not miss the front door. I had a ham and cheese croissant to try. While the award winning croissants were the cubano and the traditional croissant, they were out of cubano and I was craving something savoury that morning. Ham and cheese it was, and it was delicious. Warm and melty center, and layers of crisp pastry you can sink your teeth into. The butter flavor makes it so decadent but not to the point it's overpowering. the black sesame kouign amann was also so flaky and had the intense aroma of sesame I look for. 10/10. Lastly, it's a great coffee selection. Their house coffee is probably on the lighter roast side, it's more acidic. I also tried their special pandan-orange-vanilla latte which was wacky but oddly worked if you're into the burst citrus and spice type of flavor profile.

Yelp
Their little vegan pistachio bun was soooo good. But i give it three stars because the guy, obviously looking at me, called the person behind me up to take their order while im just like uhhh what? And another coworker had noticed and tried to diffuse the awkwardness by taking my order instead. It was very weird and made me uncomfortable. The coffee tastes like coffee lol but yeah i might not come back just from that weird moment. However, that bun was pretty good lol i might come back if i happen to see it.

My original review did not attach the pictures. He food was so pretty I want you to be able to see them

Yelp
Pretty good croissants! I wouldn't say they are better than Arsicault tho, sorry! We tried the: - regular croissant - cubano croissant - ham and cheese croissant - elote danish - iced matcha latte - (seasonal) iced orange panda vanilla latte All the pastries were good! The cubano was tasty but didn't have that much meat inside. The seasonal latte was the most expensive drink on the menu---could barely taste the flavors. Stick to a regular latte!
google avatar

Pooja P.

Yelp
Stopped by for a coffee and pastry and we absolutely loved this place. The staff were very friendly and helpful. It was busy but most people got to-go orders so seating was manageable. Their pastries all looked lovely, I got a Cinnamon Orange Sticky Bun and my husband got a black sesame Kouign-Amann. They were both delicious and not too sweet. He also got an Orange Vanilla Pandan Latte, a seasonal drink. It was perfectly balanced between all the flavors and not too sweet. The whole experience was lovely and definitely worth a visit!

Yelp
Opening in January 2023, I had Juniper bookmarked for their pâte à choux but didn't buy any. Cuz baby, you gotta save all your calories for their BOMB croissants! In the recent SF Croissant Competition by Frenchly, French Morning and L'Apero, Juniper crushed it, winning all three awards: People's choice, best original creation, AND best croissant in the city! Juniper is open for takeout and dine-in. No outdoor seating. In-person orders only. Free dog treats available at the counter. M E N U Pastries: Sweet + savory croissants and danishes ($5-$8.75), cookies ($4.50), muffins ($4.50), choux ($4), and more. Drinks: Coffee + tea (owned by Saint Frank Coffee). Oat milk available for +75 cent supplement. 4% SF Healthy Tax. Note: Cubano + Chocolate Croissants are limited. Once they sell out that's it. Per staff, if you want to snag one, come on/before 9 am. D R I N K S https://tinyurl.com/4ckc2wjn * Matcha Latte ($6.25) w/ oat milk (+75 cents) // 4.5 stars Ceremonial grade, the matcha latte was strong and robust with a good vegetal earthiness (unlike most cafes that serve what tastes like iced milk w/ a splash of matcha). First time trying London-based Minor Figures Oat Milk and I like it better than Oatly. It gave a more silky mouthfeel to the latte and a natural sweetness to balance the bitter notes of the matcha. * Iced Coffee, Sister Moon ($3.75) Not my drink but friend said, it was solid. V I E N N O I S E R I E * Traditional Croissant ($5) // 5 stars: https://tinyurl.com/2fzuub7a Winner of "Best Croissant": Perfectly golden brown with a good rise, distinctive laminated flaky layers, and honeycomb center. Deliciously buttery with a great contrast between the shatteringly crispy exterior and the airy soft interior. * Cubano Croissant ($8.75) // 4.5 stars: https://tinyurl.com/45cccyt5 Winner of "Best Original Creation": Cuban meets French fusion, a creative spin on the traditional ham & cheese croissant - mojo marinated pork shoulder, ham, gruyère cheese, stone ground mustard, and paper thin pickles are encapsulated in a sturdy yet soft croissant. Well-balanced savory-tangy-zesty flavors and crunchy-soft textures, it hits! Next time, I'm bringing one home to warm up so the cheese gets nice and melty. While Ariscault was named "Best Bakery in America" by Bon Appétit, I like Juniper's croissants better, they're not as heavy and greasy. S E R V I C E The staff is friendly, fast, and efficient given how busy they are. Positive vibes all around. They were kind enough to cut our croissants in half since we were sharing them. A M B I A N C E Modern, casual, and bustling with about 8 tables, communal table in back, and window counter seats. P A R K I N G Easy metered parking in the mornings. Overall, the city is home to many great bakeries - are Juniper's croissants deserving of the accolades and worth the hype? Everyone has different palates and taste preferences but... After taste testing the croissants in the car, we hopped back in the short line again to buy croissants for others...and so did the group in front of us!

Yelp
Juniper recently won the best croissant in SF, and I came in specifically to try them! The first time I came, they were all sold out (around 12 pm), which was unfortunate, but I tried some of their other goodies, including their chocolate espresso cookie (which btw is absolutely AMAZING)! The second time, I was not about to miss out on the croissants, so I came right when they opened and got a huge selection of their croissants and other baked goodies to try. My expectations were definitely exceeded, and I am obsessed with Juniper's croissants. They are perfectly flakey and have the perfect amount of butter (without going completely overboard). One of my pet peeves with croissants is when they are way too greasy from too much butter, and it makes you feel all heavy and sick. Juniper's croissants were not like that at all, and I kept wanting to go back for more. I also really liked their Black Sesame Kougin-Amann and they also have unique coffee creations to try as well!

Yelp
Tried the Cubano Croissant and a Lemon Choux. The Cubano was amazing and easily one of the best croissants I have had. A nice crisp outside with a light and airy inside. The flavor of the Lemon Choux was great, but the outside was a bit dryer than I was expecting. Probably wouldn't order a Choux again. The woman who served me was super nice and helpful with item suggestions. She offered to heat my pastries which was great (though the Cubano was still a bit cold inside given the size). There were a couple tables and I found a seat pretty quickly after ordering. I will definitely be back to try some of their other pastries!

Yelp
Randomly came here for coffee during our visit to SF and we couldn't resist getting a croissant as well; it was as delicious as it looked! Hands down one of the best croissants I've had, great flavor and texture! The pumpkin space lattes were also one of the best I've tried in a while, you could taste the spice and it was too sweet. There is also plenty of sitting inside and good and the vibe was chill. The staff were friendly and attentive. Highly recommend stopping by!

Yelp
Let's check out the little cafe that won this year's title of Best Croissant in SF! They have a nice variety but they are most noted for their traditional and Cubano. The Cubano is a delicious savory option that has a flavorful fillng of tender pork, ham and cheese with complementing flavors from mustard and pickles. I was also able to sample their butter croissant loaf and black sesame croissant loaf. Each item had a soft, buttery bite with a perfectly crispy outer later (the texture combo was awesome). To pair with their yummy treats, they also have a menu of drinks and even suggest different pairings of coffees with their cute choux. They have a cute interior with small seats and the service was fairly quick and friendly. Be sure to check them out and decide for yourself if this really is the best in town!

Yelp
It's always wonderful to be greeted and served by someone who is passionate about their craft, so I appreciate the quick culinary talk regarding lemons and their impact on the world of food. I was lucky to walk in at 3 pm on a Monday as they just set out a new tray of choux pastries. The rest of the display case seemed pretty empty at that point: a testament to the popularity of the bakery and the need to go in early if you want to have a selection. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to try the croissant here. Nevertheless, with $10 for 3 choux pastries, I found the filling to be delightfully light and flavorful and the pastry shell to custard ratio was perfect.

Yelp
A random Yelp search for coffee one day told me that I had just missed my chance to check out Juniper -- by 20 minutes too late. But I like the name, the interior pic seemed like a good place to sit for about, and the raves about croissant pastry made me prioritize a subsequent visit. It did not disappoint. I had a plain butter croissant -- justifiably prize worthy. And I had a savory danish with cheese, paprika and corn. It was really good. Cafe au lait was served in a real cup and there was still a choice of seats despite being pretty busy. Definitely planning a return to try more items.

Yelp
There's no better way to start your day than with a fresh croissant from Juniper. They truly deserve the 'Best croissant in SF' title! The croissant is light and flaky with delicate, buttery layers. The service is very efficient and, even early in the morning, the employees have a great attitude! The bakery has ample seating to cater to a slow routine, so grab a pastry and beverage and settle into a seat to enjoy your morning!

Yelp
Had to come early and make it before pastries ran out. I came on a Sunday as soon as they opened and it wasn't too busy. They had everything in stock. I had their award winning cubano and it did not disappoint. It was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside with the pork and ham. Although I was missing the mustard. I ordered the original and raspberry croissant. Everything was delicious and worth getting up early. I would definitely come back and try other items. Very good customer service. Nice ambiance to eat indoors.

Yelp
The Cubano croissant is a winner for a reason--the lined texture is felt in each bite along with a taste that is similar to a ham cheese croissant but with the zing of mustard and pickles. The yuzu macadamia nut has powerful citrus vibes that I love with that added crunch! The Raspberry almond croissant is raspberry forward with some almonds on the outside, giving it added texture. Overall, would come back again for a black sesame kouigaman & all of the above!

Yelp
I had high expectations coming into Juniper as they recently won an award as the best croissant in San Francisco and... I was not disappointed! I came on a Wednesday around noon for a quick snack and loved the ambiance. There is plenty of seating which is great for someone like me who works from home. I ordered a croissant and an iced chai latte. The croissant was so perfectly flaky and crispy on the outside and buttery soft on the inside. I can definitely understand how they won the award. The staff is also very friendly though note that they run out of pastries very quickly (there were only croissants left when I came).

Yelp
From the owners of Saint Frank Coffee, a new bakery showcasing the offerings of pastry chef Amy Chen. Dropped in for a croissant and coffee randomly and was so happy to have tried it. Croissant had just the right amount of flakey and lightness. The Saint Frank coffee is perfectly suited to my taste buds and paired perfectly with the croissant. Will be back to try the Cubano and other croissants. The kouign amann gave me that look of betrayal as I walked out the store. Don't worry, I will be back for you too.
