Six Queens Dishes Under $25 | Eater NY

"Seafood-heavy but still good value, the cazuela de mariscos is served in a large colorfully painted bowl and is loaded with clams, mussels, calamari, shrimp, and even stone crab. They’re all immersed in a flavorful guajillo chile broth that complements the mildness of the shellfish." - Caroline Shin

Juquila Review - Sawtelle - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"Juquila is a family-owned restaurant located off Santa Monica Blvd specializing in Oaxacan and “Oaxacalifornian” dishes that use moles for creative spins on some local staples. Their burrito juquila is just that, and comes as a gargantuan chicken, rice, and bean wrap that gets coated in a mole negro, shredded cheese, and popped in the oven until everything harmoniously melds together. The final result is a richer and denser wet burrito due to the mole not fully soaking through the flour tortilla. Juquila’s Oaxacan parrillada is another impressively large display that can be shared by two to four people depending on which size you get. These tabletop grills come with sizzling chorizo, tasajo, cecina, roasted jalapeños, nopales, and quesillo cheese that slowly melts in the center." - Sylvio Martins

Google
I order a lot from this Restaurant through Seamless, today was the first time I went to eat at the Restaurant, and the truth is I was very disappointed, with everything, the terrible service, just having to ask for utensils, having to ask for things because they forget, the food was not as bad as the service, I love Micheladas, but that Michelada was terrible, it had no lemon juice, no Worcestershire sauce, no tomato sauce, it was a glass with Tabasco, and tajini, it was so spicy that you could not enjoy it, I did not like the Horchata either, that was rice water with cinnamon, milk and vanilla, what a bigger disappointment, no more Juquila 👎👎👎

Google
It is truly a hidden gem whenever you're in Jackson Heights. Service is good, but it could take them like 5 mins to get your order. I love their quesadilla because it comes with rice and beans plus salad. It is so savory. I also love their vegan taco. I taste homemade. The atmosphere is not bad very colorful and clean. It could get loud because of the bar. Other than that, I highly recommend this place.

Google
Best Tlayuda ever . The rest of the food was ok. I have to come back to try the mole. I was disappointed because they only have Pozole Blanco and I was expecting Rojo. But everything was ok.

Google
This place is super delicious and honestly a hidden gem!! The food is always so good from the burritos - tacos (you can never go wrong with it). However the service on the other hand can be a little more problematic.. especially if you’re splitting. The first few times that I’ve went there the waiter really gave an attitude to me and my friends for not telling him before hand that we are splitting the bill and it was with a very condescending tone. So from then on I try to remember 😅. Just a quick warning ! (Plus I really don’t understand why when it isn’t an issue in other establishments). But with that being said the food is a must try! Always fresh and delicious and good prices and portions.

Google
Great atmosphere, very colorful and friendly. The food itself was good too and not Americanized which I find is always a good sign. Nice staff and the prices aren’t bad. The burritos are so so good too, way better than anything from Chipotle

Google
We came due to the review in the Gothamist. We got the Mole & Barbacoa plate and shared both. They have daily specials, no English translation, so use your high school Spanish or be brave enough to ask. I thought the Mole was flavored perfectly and one of the better Mole’s I’ve had in my life. Nice! I do wish it came out a little hotter though, temperature wise. It felt almost room temp 10min after it landed on the table. The Barbacoa lamb plate was quite good, very fresh. The flavor was there, but not as pronounced as I expected. However, with the avocado and salsa tossed into a hot tortilla on the side, it was better. The food was very delicious and we will be back again trying new dishes

My mom had taken me to this place and the food was good 😌. I ordered chicken and shrimp fajitas and this drink was delicious 🔥 it was Very berry hibiscus. I would definitely recommend it and I would go back

Google
Their tamarindo mojitos are the best, and I will always rave about them! :) Their serving portions will leave you satisfied. The waiters provided fast and friendly service. Last but not least, their interior décor is authentic :)

Yelp
Ordered their platter to go upon recommendation from a friend and Juquila did not disappoint! Carnitas platter will easily feed 2 (if your're not large eatters). Don't know how they do it, but the pig ears are the best and marinated perfectly! Will definitely be back to try some of the other things on their menu!

Yelp
A group of 8 of us descended on Juquila, ready to feast on food as colorful as the decor. Smokey meat lovers will adore the Carnitas. Green-goers will enjoy the Verdes Chilaquiles. And the Walking Dead among us--AKA those nursing a hangover from last night's fiesta--will no doubt need a big, piping hot bowl of Pozole, which you can drink scorpion bowl-style if you so choose (we did). The guac and Jamaica agua fresca were both solid, but I'd skip the Mole Poblano con Pollo, which was just eh.

Yelp
Deliciosa is the words to describe our meals and drinks. A short walk from the 7 train to the 82nd St. stop and you arrived at this Mexican gem. First I want to thank Rubin our waiter, he gave 100% from beginning to end. Rubin was very friendly, efficient and made excellent recommendations when we were a bit unsure of certain items to choose between. The drinks were some of the best we have ever had. A margarita and by far the best pina colada I have ever tasted. Shared guacamole and yes we like a bit of spice....it was freshly ripened avocados with the perfect blend of cilantro, onions and tomatoes. The tortilla chips were bought to us and freshly made (not from a bag) and a hint of salt. Moved on to two tacos one shrimp and one goat. The goat meat was beyond tender both were served on a mini tortilla. Out of the array of soups to choose from Rubin suggested the beef soup which comes in a large or small portion. The perfect bowl of heaven, albeit the smaller bowl It was extremely filling. The soup consisted of tiny cut pieces of corn on the cob, potatoes, spices and beef so tender that after one bite on a cold nite it warmed your entire insides. Soup served with a side plate of finely chopped parsley and onions.....use as much or as little to your taste. Entree was fried pork chops (2) I was asked if I wanted it alone or with cooked onions (trust me get the cooked onions they were tender and finely sliced), with a side of beans and rice and a mini chopped tomato, onion and green pepper salad. We thought it was over (the meal) and Rubin lured us in with those magic words....."are you interested in dessert"?........choices were fresh flan, dulce de leche and churros (I have lived in New York my entire life and never had a churro but always wanted them)......well todays the day!!!! We split the churros which comes with a small cup of dark chocolate. I don't eat chocolate but the churros were bought to us freshly fried and warm with a hint of sugar. The only thing that was missing was a pull out bed next to the table so I could fall fast asleep after my meal lol. Now that I know where Juquila is I will make the trip and try more items on the menu.

Yelp
I really liked this place a lot, a friend picked this place out as part of a taco crawl we were having in Jackson Heights and I thought this place was great. I really enjoyed the atmosphere and the service was great. The food: Barbacoa Taco- These were some bombass barbacoa tacos. It had a very pronounced lamb flavor, more than other Mexicans I have tried it in, if you don't mind the gamey flavor you will love these. The lamb was nice and tender with some nice fatty pieces. Must get. https://www.yelp.com/user_local_photos?select=MOKKX5sJFUxwv0NNm9f0PQ&userid=Y_iTTjKvV5hLy-880SZzlA Lengua Taco- Really delicious. The tongue was properly cooked and was seasoned well. The lengua was a close second. Chorizo Taco- Flavor on this was great and I appreciated how they left it in small chunks. I don't like when they chop it too fine but this had a good mouth feel. Carne Asado Taco- The only taco I had that I would skip, it was super safe and not that exciting. Pork Pazole- This is the dish that surprised me the most. I thought this was excellent, it had such a wonderful soul food feel, kinda like chicken soup on a cold winter day. The pieces of pork were cooked perfectly, they had so such wonderful texture and flavor.

Yelp
I've lived in the neighborhood for a few years now, and I come here all the time! It's delicious, affordable, and has super friendly staff, too. Any of their tacos are great, and I also recommend their pork chops and enchiladas verde.

Yelp
We came on a Saturday night around 6:45pm and it was packeddd. We opted to sit by ourselves in their outdoor seating (mistake but that was our bad...it was freezing outside and while they do have a heater you won't feel it at all). Also, the outdoor dining door doesnt fully close so theres a huge draft that comes in. That being said, onto the food. Tacos: Lengua: 3/5 Carne asada: best of the 3 Shrimp: 3/5 All 3 came with onions, cilantro, and guac on the side. There was also lime to squeeze on it. They gave green sauce and hot sauces too. All the tacos were $4+ which is kind of pricey. Mole poblano con pollo It's kind of sweet, came with arroz and beans. Because it was so cold inside, the food kind of got cold by the time we finished the tacos. We ended up taking it to go. Not in photos: mexican hot chocolate ($4.50 for a large) and michelada: $9 it was good! All in all, I wouldn't say go out of your way to eat here but if youre in the area and want tacos, and they have room inside by all means check it out. Just dont have high expectations to be wowed. I left feeling meh. Not bad. Not good.

Yelp
They give complimentary nachos & beans which were good. I got seafood stew which was amazing ($22). It wasn't spicy at all, perfectly mild for me. It had celery in it but I couldn't really taste it & it didn't have that nasty celery smell. It comes with shrimp, squid, clam, mussel, crab. They also give you a bun to dip it in. My friend got mole which was good.

Yelp
A solid spot for Mexican food, evident from the crowd and how packed this place was. Ordered a variety of tacos while here and they were all delicious, and seasoned well. Packed with seasoning and sauces, they were incredibly well done. Would definitely come back to try the rest of the menu here

Yelp
We ordered 3 appetizers and the person over the phone took down the incorrect address. Left my number so they can review their system after clearly giving my address in the J.Heights district. Also ordered food last week which led us to choose Juquila over It's competitors Coatzingo, Molcajete, El Poblano etc. Somehow the poor delivery guy was sent to long island city. It would be common sense why would you send a courier for over 40 blocks for a delivery. 34th avenue is well known in the area . 55 minutes later I give the manager the correct address only to be passed to the server who wrote the order for me to reiterate the same address and phone number. I want to support a small business and you would think they would accept their error and offer at least a 50% discount or a comped meal considering the lateness but what we received was cold food. Not sure how customer service oriented the Manager is willing to accept errors like these. Pretty disappointed with the delivery and honestly will rethink ordering a delivery from here again. I do recommend to eat in person if in the area but even that last time we went there the waitress didn't know how to make the cocktails but the food is good. Hopefully they learn on customer service and how to rectify this situation in the future. A cold taco and queso fundido with chips and guacamole is not turning my night around. Tipped the guy well for his efforts in the cold weather. Paying full price is throwing your money away considering the other authentic restaurants in Jackson Heights. I'm glad I didn't have friends over while we watched lucha libre, saved myself the bad experience.

Yelp
Parking can be a challenge in Queens, but finding the best food definitely isn't one! My family and I came to Juquila on our way back from viewing the Dia de los Muertos ofrenda in Rockefeller center, and it was the best ending to an adventure out of Long Island, leaving with full hearts and bellies. The service was attentive, the music was uncharacteristically pop (yay for me!), and I really had the best meal. We had a queso fundido to start, though I'd already inhaled the chips and frijoles they serve you first. I had an agua de jamaica to drink, and it was so refreshing but since I haven't ventured out to Queens in a bit, I had to also immediately drink a fresh limonada to make the most of my time here, both were excellent. As for our mains, we had consome (goat soup), a torta de milanesa (beef sandwich), and barbacoa en salsa verde (goat). My consome, though "small," was extremely filling, with veggies, potatoes, and goat; mom got a larger size and we had plenty leftover to take home. Since it was chillier out, the soup really hit the spot. Pricing is really fair and the selection is very authentic. We love ordering take out from here occasionally when passing through, I highly recommend!

Yelp
The food here is amazing. The service is good even when the restaurant is quite busy. Their tacos are just out of this world, my favorite is the Al Pastor. There are so many appetizing dishes this gem offers. The vibe is so colorful and cheerful, I love how this restaurant is great for families and groups. Highly recommend!

Yelp
This is one of the best places for Mexican food. I love getting the agua fresas, tortas, the breakfast, etc. Note that they stop serving breakfast at 12pm. They have various dishes to choose from, you'll never get bored. They used to give free chips before but I believe they stopped due to COVID. They do temperature check and have a contact log for you to fill out.
google avatar

Carmen F.

Yelp
I love it here, they have the best tacos and soups I have had in the neighborhood. Service is prompt, they have a liquor license now and have a full bar available. My favorites are the chorizo tacos, Suadero tacos and chicken tacos. Good sauces, generally get a tamarind agua fresca no alcohol so not sure how the cocktails are.

Yelp
Gracias

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem. The food here is amazing. I love their chips and guac and all of their tacos. My favorite taco is the al pastor but anyone of them is great. The servers are also super nice and I love how many options there are on the menu even though I usually come in for my same favorites. The restaurant itself is also really colorful and fun on the inside and I love the decor. Some things on the menu are a bit pricey but I would say they are worth the price.
google avatar

Hannah C.

Yelp
Really good guacamole and chips. Pricey, but what in life is not? Juquila is slightly more expensive than other places in the area but I really like their guac when I feel like splurging. Their calamari is good too, with a decent amount and the most delicious chipotle sauce to dip in. Wish they just offered this sauce with everything! Their tacos are pretty good, along with their chicken quesadillas that come along with a side of rice and beans. The cemitas and tortas can be a hit or miss depending on the meat- it can come out a bit dry. I like their sauces on the side, and everything is pretty tasty!

Yelp
The staff get high marks for how they handled people waiting for pick up on a recent Saturday night. There were 3 or 4 of us and the hostess asked people to wait outside, making the experience for those dining in the restaurant. The food we ordered was really well-made and had lots of flavour. I would definitely get food again if I'm in the neighbourhood. It looks like you can have a casual but delicious meal there.
google avatar

Jen F.

Yelp
The only good thing I can say about this is the fast food service, but only thing that comes out of that is the food not being fresh. I remember coming here and being greeted with a smile by the male waiters. After coming here a year later I felt a huge change after walking in, I ordered the nachos, a carnitas taco And my boyfriend ordered carnitas burrito by the end of our meal we were completely disappointed. We no long felt the comfort of the food, or ambiance. They've completely downgraded and seems they've switched to cheaper alternatives. By the end of the night I was just completely disappointed.
google avatar

Karina Q.

Yelp
I'm actually really surprised with this place's rating because this was THE BEST Mexican food I have ever had I came here so many times and never got disappointed! Everything was so delicious, everything. I moved to Astoria a year ago but still miss their food 5 stars!

Jonathan A.

Yelp
I was disappointed when I received my tostada. 1)The tostada de quesillo barely had any quesillo (or any other ingredient. Barely and beans, cream, etc.) 2) The price is very high when you take into account what you receive. (Restaurants sell this particular tostada for $3 meanwhile they charged me $4.50)
google avatar

Ricardo H.

Yelp
Juquila had 1.1k reviews and 4.4 stars on Google, and I couldn't agree more. The Bistec a la mexicana with tortillas, rice and beans and cafecito was perfect, and the service was excellent. Definitely will be back.
google avatar

Freya O.

Yelp
Love love love this place! Truly where authentic Mexican food can be found. The staff are so lovely, our waiter was truly great. Truly loved the atmosphere, the service and most importantly the food! Will be back soon! I'm so happy to have found this place! Highly recommend!

Yelp
I have been coming here since they opened. Its nicely decorated, friendly service and the food is good. I love having the combinations of flavors like the sweet horchata with a spicy, salty cemita con cesina...basically a sweet sesame roll with salty spicy beef Jerry with house peppers sauce. Pow! What flavors! When ordering, order different plates and enjoy buffet style with your family.

Yelp
Awesome Mexican good. Fast and efficient service. Restaurant is clean and has an extensive menu. I think this is one of the better places in Elmhurst for Mexican food which says a lot insisting the sheer number of restaurants in this area.

Anderson N.

Yelp
The way they receive the people is bad. We came in and they made us wait 30 minutes and then we wanted tables and they started talking to us in a rude way and started saying stuffs overall it's the most bad experience I've ever had. Next time try to attend people better and for them to be faster and nicer at receiving people. Thank you

frances b.

Yelp
I've eaten here before and enjoyed it, but terrible tonight. Greasy bland food--was not given salsa (other tables were). Spouse ordered a coke, and was given an American coke while other tables got Mexican Coke. Maybe just an off night? Anyway, lots of good Mexican restaurants around here, so no reason to revisit this one.

Yani P.

Yelp
Horrible food. Al pastor Tacos: not good- meat didn't have any favor and there wasn't anything in the taco, but flavorlessmeat.... Where's the garnish? Queso fondida con chorizo: horrible Torta de carna asada; horrible, no flavor. DRY

WuemdyPineda W.

Yelp
The chicken pozole was good but flautas and tostadas were ridiculous and not good! I knower are in US but Mexican food should be Mexican that green leafs and salad are not Mexican at all. And that slides of chicken in the flautas are funny!! The chicken should be shredded.

Kyle B.

Yelp
Great place with consistent service for over a year. We love the flautas and the cemitas de pollo! They have never messed up an order and the delivery is always on time, which is rare in Jackson Heights....

Daniela C.

Yelp
Food is pretty good but costumer service isn't as expected. The girl at the front is rude and the waiting time is ridiculous. Waited almost 40 minutes for 2 orders of flautas. Not worth the experience.

Mariam S.

Yelp
Excellent food ! Honestly the best Mexican food in the neighborhood and possibly in New York that I've had. Super fresh and tasty great quality food Love the steak tacos Steak quesadilla Shrimp enchiladas Guacamole and chips and tres leches cake Will only order from them from now on
google avatar

Maty P.

Yelp
Everything was delicious. Authentic food, attentive service, and taking safety precautions. Muchas gracias por todo!
google avatar

Alex W.

Yelp
We love this spot in Jackson Heights, best mexican food in this neighborhood. The mole is incredible and the enchiladas too.

Alana M.

Yelp
I loved the food here. I have been twice in two weeks and I am seriously contemplating trekking to Elmhurst for a third time (a traffic nightmare) at 9:39 am. The pork and the steak delicious.... drinks are great too. Thumbs up!
google avatar

Julie K.

Yelp
always a good time and the chicken tacos are so good !! 100 recommend this place for a casual and chill time :)

Yelp
Oh my God, Juquila Restaurant & Bar was actually fabulous. Clean, vibe is cool. Everything we had here was magnificent. Crew is very pleasant and can help you with everything. Overall it was an amazing experience.

Vanessa A.

Yelp
This has been my go to place during these crazy times. The food is always good! I'm a fan of their shrimp and cecina tacos. I've asked for some adjustments in orders due to my food allergies and they are always pleasant and willing to accommodate. Their prices are also pretty good for their portions. If you haven't, give them a try!

Cecilia H.

Yelp
Juquila is my favorite restaurant for Mexican food. I always order the Taquito Dorados & the Enchiladas. They never give me a problem when I ask for Mole with my Enchiladas. The Churros Calientes with Nutella are yummy too! I occasionally order their Guacamole & Chips. Those are a good appetizer as well.

Robert H.

Yelp
Ordered a delivery and they messed up the order. There was missing food and wrong drinks were sent. Offered to send over the correct items and made us pay again! And when the missing items finally arrived some of the food was already cold... Despicable customer service. Management should learn to write orders down more accurately.

Tania S.

Yelp
delicious foooood , can't complain about the size of their food either. Highly recomendable there burritos, enchiladas and chilaquiles with their delicious green sauce!! No delivery fee and very quick !

Ray A.

Yelp
I ordered "2" Spiced Meat Burritos via Grubhub and only received "1". I can handle a mistake, but my problem is that they WON'T ANSWER THEIR PHONE! Even Grubhub tried and nobody answered ever. Grubhub made it right by refunding my account for the right amount, but one person got stuck with no food! I love their food, but now that I know they don't answer the phones, forget it!

TianTian C.

Yelp
Have ordered from this restaurant a few times. Both eat in and take out. Their tacos are decent. Love the burrito (carne asada) would come back just for their burritos. The beet, corn, mixed arugula mini salad they give you next to the burrito is surprisingly really delicious. Also have ordered the chicken quesadilla pretty decent but nothing to die for and their chicken enchilada with salsa verde. Decently priced will be back to try other dishes.

C R.

Yelp
I love going here for huevos rancheros in the morning and sometimes for lunch or dinner I usually get the enchiladas. The food is great, the decor is attractive and the wait staff are always kind and attentive.
