"Jurassic Magic is designed as a non-Wi-Fi hangout, so it’s not uncommon to see strangers engaging with one another or reading a book while drinking the cafe’s signature Magic Latte made with condensed oat milk and a spice blend that includes clove, nutmeg, cinnamon, and ginger. The space is filled with fun light fixtures, bright primary colors, patio seating, and tchotchkes." - Mona Holmes, Rebecca Roland

"The name may say "souvenir store at Universal Studios," but Jurassic Magic is in fact a chilled-out coffee shop in Mid-City. There are shaded tables out front, but if you’re seeking true peace and quiet, head to the hidden back area. This indoor/outdoor space doubles as a shop selling everything from wand-woven beach bags to vinyl records, but you’ll also find outlets, little tables to sit at, and a soothing wall of tropical plants. It’s the perfect place to get some work done while sipping an iced tea with lemon and honey. " - brant cox

Incredible atmosphere. Cozy, creative, and full of character. You really feel the care in the design and vibe of the space. The service is friendly, and the coffee is delicious. I just wish they offered more vegan options for baked goods to enjoy with the drinks. Still, a magical little place I’ll happily return to!

Google
Cute little cafe, wanted to try it because I' currently on a mission to try all these new matcha latte/newly opened Korean/Asian styled cafes. Their vibe is ok, drinks are ok, but it's just where they are located...wished they were at a less sketchy neighborhood, and would really recommend this place. Not worth driving all the way to this place where there aren't many things to do around. Parked in the very crowded/small street parking.

Google
Cute Café with super friendly staff. We‘ve stopped by for the first time and only had a coffee. The pastries also looked very appealing, will try one next time :) there is plenty of space to sit, also a small patio

Google
An aesthetic cafe, but the drinks and service fell short. This quirky spot had its charm, with cozy nooks and crannies that made it a great place to relax, but the service was just average (and pretentious), much like the drinks. The chai latte I ordered wasn’t great, it was a bit too spiced for my liking, and the “Friends 4ever” tea was bland—definitely not worth the $5, which was disappointing. However, I really enjoyed the cafe’s atmosphere, especially the aesthetic back patio, which offered a lovely space to unwind.

Google
I'm such a sucker for this place. The drinks options are so delicious and equally interesting. The service is wonderful and they handle long lines beautifully. A fun space to hang inside, cute cafe vibe outside, and really good people watching.

Google
They have a super fun atmosphere! Friendly staff and very quirky place. My drink was a little underwhelming though— for short americano the espresso wasn’t strong nor was the other flavoring (yuzu chocolate cold cream). However I definitely want to come back and try again!

Google
I did not get food I had a coffee the Uncle Buck. It was very delicious. The food did look very good as many others there were eating. It's a very cute cozy spot. Seating in the front but a cute area in the side back area with lots of plants.

Google
I originally left just a 5 star rating, no details, because I was heading out quickly and didn’t want to forget to leave something. But after seeing Angela’s kind response, I had to come back and say more. This place is awesome. There’s a few seats out front, but walking through the mirrored hallway into the quiet back room felt like stepping into a secret little workspace. Peaceful, well-designed, and just a great vibe overall. My drink from JM was great, and you can grab hot food from Convi next door. Their breakfast sandwich was chef’s kiss. I realized as I was writing this that the mirrored room actually leads into Sendo, a beautiful home goods shop. The way these three businesses flow together and support each other makes the whole experience feel even more special. Angela and the team are lovely, and it’s clear their energy draws in a great crowd. I really enjoyed my time here and highly recommend checking it out if you’re in the area.

Yelp
Although there was no line to get in JURASSIC MAGIC, there was a line to order. The space is large enough that they can accommodate a decent length line INSIDE their shop. This shop might have been a house once upon a time: The "garage door" opens to a small now-converted beautiful green space and the "garage" is a beautiful boutique. Their coffee table books are super interesting. The patrons are super chill and don't hog the tables. As soon as they see more people walk in, they gather their stuff and leave. Maybe I just caught an awesome group of people. The baristas are friendly and helpful. The coffee is GREAT!

Yelp
Food 5/5 - Got coffee and scone here - both of which delicious Ambiance 5/5 - such a cool spot, looks like an art museum but they also have this patio filled with plants that was relaxing to be in. Very interesting what they've done with the place Service 4/5 - order and pay right away then you pick up your own order. They were timely.

Yelp
coffee is just ok but the ambiance is top tier. i love that they have a bodega type food cafe next door. since my first visit i've tried their specialty magic latte (which was really ok) and other latte with white chocolate that was a bit better but not the best coffee i've ever had. the veggie sandwich i got next door was pretty good. i got it on ciabatta bread instead of sourdough. excellent decision if i do say so myself. yum! the folks that work on both sides are super friendly and helpful. i absolutely love the indoor outdoor space. nice green and not stuffy at all. there aren't a ton of outlets or seating inside but it's worth getting there early and picking the perfect spot.

Chelsea M.

Yelp
A solid spot if I'm in the area. Not something I'd seek out since they weren't friendly but a good neighborhood spot if you're just looking for something quick. There was no line when I went and they had a good amount of seating outside. I noticed they roasted their own beans too which is cool.

Yelp
As I take my walks Im apt to find hidden gems. This place is excellent.Talented barristas excellent coffee and a cpzy spot to hang.Check guys out

Hanna K.

Yelp
Lovely all around! Super friendly service, and the persimmon berry cake was one of the best coffee shop pastries I've ever had. The evergreen daze drink was very refreshing, and the iced matcha was strong but it seems like they use pretty average grade matcha. I got everything to go but the seating area looked really nice to hang out in. I love that they have unique drinks and would definitely come back to try others.

Dana M.

Yelp
This spot is a TOTAL VIBE! Bringing a little NorCal Berkeley vibe to Mid-City Heights! This spot has yummy coffee and pastries the each have an interesting twist separating them from the run of the mill large corporate chain coffees. There is seating inside in a back room that is a great place to study if you can get a spot! Outside seating has covered umbrellas. Pricing is similar to most cafes. Try the banana sesame bread - yummy. Would've been better warmed but that didn't see to be an option.

Anna K.

Yelp
This place is really peaceful and feels like a small coffee shop but it has plenty of seating. I went on Black Friday so I'm not sure if it's usually busy or if this is always the vibe but I enjoyed my wrecking crew latte and spam masubi croissant. I sat in the back and listened to the relaxing music. It has a ton of pastry options and Iwant to come back and try more. Spam masubi croissant was really good too.

Timmy N.

Yelp
The inside of this location is nice but the wait is too long. There is a great garden section at the back along with their really nice merchandised shirts. I wish I would recommend a lot to first timers, but personally the staff were giving snarky looks to me explicitly. For all I know it may be just the employee but personally I'll let it slide since I believe that it's only for that day. I got the dirty chai but I wouldn't really recommend it since it's not that milky (more like watery) and the cinnamon was overpowering the drink.

Yelp
My partner and I have an ongoing "coffee tour" where we check out a new coffee shop every week.. we've been doing this for the past year. Out of the MANY we've tried, Jurassic Magic is my number one, next to Stereoscope. Aesthetically the place is extremely vibey.. mirrored hallway, retro coffee table books, outdoor benches under tons of greenery, vinyl music.. it's so fun and relaxed. I could find myself getting lost here on my laptop/work for hours. Then you have the coffee menu, sooo different from most of the places we've tried and there's a good variety. Kieran or Kierick (I'm not sure if I misheard his name) was so warm and personable. I never tried pistachio milk before and he pored us some testers. When we got the coffee I accidentally spilled it in the back so after cleaning it up, he made me a new one... he was so nice I'll be coming back time and time again. Such a great place and very LA!! 10/10

Yelp
This place is awesome! First time here and will definitely keep returning. The music playlist was sick and just gave off chill vibes. The service was great the two girls working the counter were very friendly and helpful when asked anything. Now for the best part! This coffee was amazing. I had a triple cappuccino with a strawberry filled almond croissant and my wife had a drip with milk and cinnamon and a cinnamon roll. ALL of it was delicious. The coffee had FLAVOR !!! The seating areas are also very nice. There is outdoor seating and then a space in the back surrounded by art and music. Love this spot!

Kelsey H.

Yelp
Great ambiance. Loved the music and all the plants. Lots of outdoor seating. Interesting book selection for purchase. Great drip coffee. I tried the Kenya blend with almond milk. Next time will try the sister location next door for the food. Tip for management: could use more comfortable seating options. Unless thats the point ;)

Julian P.

Yelp
Pro: outdoor patio, aesthetic. Grow: seating a bit uncomfortable. Another cafe with a great outdoor patio. I loved the overall aesthetic and service at this cafe. There is ample seating both indoors and out. I would highly recommend snagging a seat inside. However, There are limited outlets and the seats are not very comfortable. They have a variety of pastries but I didn't get to try them. There is also ample street parking. Drink: I got the signature "magic latte" and it was tasty but not very magic lol I was expecting a pop of color or a wow factor. They should consider adding something to it to make it stand out. The rest of the menu items seem interesting, I will definitely be back to try them. Overall, this is a lovely cafe with outdoor seating.

Eve V.

Yelp
This is a cool and unexpected spot! Stopped by to work a little and have a little coffee while waiting for a friend to be free from work. The drinks are creatively named. I had the Gentle Giant which was a nicely balanced drink that went down smoothly without harsh notes or flavors. The service was friendly and it seemed the baristas enjoyed working there because sometimes service can be fine but also unwelcoming. This was not like that. I'd never been here but the baristas made me feel like a regular. Walking into the other section of the coffee shop felt like walking into a completely different place. There's seating in this section but it can get pretty full. There is additional outside sidewalk seating, but there are no outlets out there so make sure your laptop is fully charged.

Istra W.

Yelp
Always a good vibe in here, I love the summer special drinks and am a sucker for cold foam. I think they could even add on more non caffeine summer drinks that feel super hydrating, but they are much better than most cafes. Love the back area with plants and artisan products.

Hailing W.

Yelp

Jaime N.

Yelp
A 10 / 10 for ambiance, Jurassic Magic has adorable decor, ample seating, and a cute store in the back. The staff are all very friendly and the garden in the back feels like an escape from busy Los Angeles. The Magic Latte and Bright Eyes were both refreshing iced coffees. I'm excited to be back to try the other signature drinks.

Alex K.

Yelp
This is a veryyyy cute coffee shop. The perfect place to meet up with a friend, coworker, or out-of-towners. Will you be getting the best cup of Joe in the city? No; the drinks are nothing to write home about. But, they more than make up for it in service and ambiance! I'll be back here for sure:)

Bianca Z.

Yelp
If you're looking for a unique coffee spot to do work at solo or meet up with a friend, this is a great choice. This is one of the prettiest and most fun spots I've seen and we were welcomed so kindly by the staff. Who doesn't love a coffee shop surrounded by greenery and good vibes ?

Gail N.

Yelp
The latte. The friendly service. The thoughtfully designed instaworthy space. This whole place is a vibe from the moment you walk in. Like a little tucked away oasis from the dreary streets. Got the Magic Latte (condensed oat milk, "Jurassic" spice). It was perfectly sweet and quite tasty - you could even go so far as call it "magical" :) If I lived in the neighborhood, I could certainly seem myself being a regular. #worththedrive

Bao N.

Yelp
Everything about Jurassic Magic is indeed magical. With just a quick glance of the eye, one can tell the interior was meticulously curated to perfection. It immediately captures the five senses, and hits you hard and fast. The feeling of giddiness quickly washed over me. I knew I found a hidden gem then. They have a wide selection of pastries and beverages to choose from. Hidden in the back of the cafe is a secret garden. I adore everything about it. Definitely a must visit :)

Esther K.

Yelp
Loved the ambiance of this cafe. So unique and special with its little oasis in the back of the cafe. The interior feels like a mini gallery with its unique trinkets, pottery, and magazines. The iced latte was good although they ran out of vanilla syrup for the day. Service was quick and friendly. I also appreciate the seating available right outside the cafe as well.

Rachel S.

Yelp
One of my favorite cafes! The drinks are always delicious and the pastries they have are also very good. I would recommend any of the coffee drinks or the teas! Some of the specials change but the Magic Latte is a constant and one of my favorite drinks there! I also really enjoy the Dog Days Crush iced tea if you're not a fan of coffee.

Kevin S.

Yelp
Wonderful cafe with great ambience! Love the staff, coffee and vibes of the place. Hidden little gem that I highly recommend.

Debbie G.

Yelp
An absolute treasure in mid city. Their pastries are divine, and they host occasional pop-ups with food vendors. The coffee is what keeps me coming here on a weekly basis, my go to the is the magic latte with coconut milk. The plants in the shop really transform this cafe into a magical spot. The baristas are always very friendly, and the coffee is prepared with love.

Moses L.

Yelp
Such a unique coffeeshop. From the decor to the variety of drinks. I tried their Magic Latte and Dog Days Crush. Loved both! The mirror hallway that leads to a second section filled with artistic artifacts and a plant utopia inspired study or hang out spot is truly magical. Customer service was good and hope to come back in the future.

Ricky G.

Yelp
Stepping into the recently unveiled coffee sanctuary in Los Angeles felt like a delightful voyage through time and culture, transcending the ordinary café experience. The carefully curated interior, adorned with captivating home decor available for purchase, transports visitors to a bygone Jurassic era, reminiscent of a sophisticated, vintage haven. What sets this establishment apart is its elegant fusion of literature, libations, and location. The beautifully arranged library, offering an array of books for purchase, adds an intellectual charm to the ambiance. It's a place where the aroma of freshly brewed coffee intertwines with the scent of adventure, creating a haven for the literary, the social-lite, and the coffee connoisseur. As you explore further, a hidden gem awaits in the form of a magical jungle at the back of the store. This lush oasis provides a captivating backdrop for socializing, spending quality time with friends, or immersing oneself in work. The harmonious blend of nature and nurture makes it an idyllic retreat within the bustling city. The seductive allure of the coffee served here is undeniable, whisking patrons away on a nostalgic journey through time with every sip. It's not just a café; it's a portal to the past and a gateway to a future where this multifaceted establishment stands as the epitome of a one-stop destination for coffee, culture, and captivating experiences. An absolute must-visit for those seeking a blend of sophistication, literary charm, and the timeless magic of a well-crafted cup of coffee.

Briana B.

Yelp
I can't believe I haven't done a review of this place. I started going here when they first opened and I first came home to the area. I used to have so many conversations with the owner and I loved his ideas and his love for bringing true coffee to our little Mid-City Heights community. It's a true gem!

Natalia M.

Yelp
what a cool spot. plants, books, and good matcha... and lots of color! I loved the different rooms here. you have some outdoor seating & then a mirrored hallway that takes you to the plant area with more seats. Randomly came here on a Sunday before driving home. I got an iced oat matcha tea latte & the vegan chickpea curry pastry. They have a large pastry case with lots of goodies. the pastry was so so good, I almost got one for the road lol. The matcha was yummy, next time I'd add some sweetener! staff was friendly, you can tell they all get along well. excited to come back here and try new items.

Nikao C.

Yelp
This is the second time I have gone here and received poor service. I am not sure if it is the color of my skin or if they are tired. I do believe it is the color of my skin, because the the lady who took my order was more than happy to help the other customers who came in the door that did not look like me... I would rather spend my money with people who greet me with a smile and not a sad pitiful face.

Jen C.

Yelp
What a gorgeous neighborhood gem! Thank you Yelp for giving me a successful search result. They even have a few gluten free options, and my favorite is Carrot Cake with Coconut! The staff were friendly and let me get all goo goo eyed about this place as I had to look at everything. I was here to catch up with a friend and the front is the chatty area - my photo is after everyone left. The back patio was quiet a serious with people working and I didn't take the photo of the cute boutique adjacent to that back patio. It has artisan goodies from Brazil. Great tea selection. No lunch food options but a good cafe tucked away from the loud blvds of La Brea and Washington.

Siva M.

Yelp
awesome ambience, great lattes and specialty drinks, impeccable small outdoor patio, amazing decor, cool tchotchkes/books/vinyls sold, not the study/work type of cafe

Robert W.

Yelp
I saw a sandwich board advertising a little side street cafe. Jurassic Magic has a great name. I love the quiet garden. Plus baskets, textiles, art books and records. And terrific coffee.

Joanna S.

Yelp
Cute coffee shop in Mid City with a magical secret patio. From the outside looking in, Jurassic Magic Coffee is pretty unassuming. There are cute retro cafe tables and a beautiful pastry case on the counter. But tucked away a few steps past the coffee bar is a small shop with artisanal goods, such as ceramics, jewelry, and knit tops. The best part is a beautiful open air seating area set underneath a lush garden backdrop. It was pretty amazing enjoying my coffee in the quiet dappled sunlight. I highly recommend the Bright Eyes, which is perfect for cold brew lovers who like the refreshing yet rich quality of the brewing technique. The staff were very quick and friendly. Street parking available.

Rickey K.

Yelp
Exquisite coffeeshop/bookstore environment. Excellent pastries, great coffee. Really enjoyed the interior design and great curation of books. Zen garden in the back to chill and get the mind right. Very friendly and prompt service. Beautiful spot.

bob s.

Yelp
Hidden gem. Was nearby. Drove down Washington Blvd and notices some outdoor umbrellas in side street. Had a hot Americano and tasty pastry. Has a very peaceful but crowded outdoor patio and several tables in front. The staff was friendly and helpful. The food was good and the price was reasonable Yep, I'm going back!

Matcha M.

Yelp
MATCHA 9/10 Service-8/10 Baddies/ambiance 9/10 The matcha was very well made Nice amount of ice Great matcha oatmilk ratio

Blaire B.

Yelp
Fun and funky. Great coffee. A really unique experience, especially the back area. Busy but only because it's good.

Hannah L.

Yelp
New cafe in La Brea that opened roughly 6 months ago :) We found this little gem through an Instagram post. The design of the cafe is so quaint, and it's storefront is also incredibly unassuming. As you can tell from the photos, the entire place is filled with plants, and it is beautifully decorated. Ambiance + interior design is a 5/5. I got the matcha limeade and my friends got the magic latte. I enjoyed the tartness of the matcha limeade (think of it like a matcha lemonade except more tart because of the lime). That being said I couldn't really taste the matcha, so I'm not sure if the drink is worth the $6 price tag. But I will say for the ambiance alone I would come again and try a different drink :)

Esther C.

Yelp
Jurassic Magic is amazing. The interior is filled with wonderful art deco which I think are personally painted or drawn. The baristas are always the sweetest and also dress really well. They have a beautiful back patio where they also sell local goods that I always get tempted to buy. The coffee is amazing as well and they have very unique lattes and drinks that use different spices or ingredients. Personally for me, I don't like having too spice-y, so I always opt for either the Bright Eyes or a regular latte, but I know alot of people would enjoy the Magic Latte as well. I haven't tried any of their pastries yet since I go after lunch, but I've heard great things. All in all, I love the space, the people, and the coffee!

Nancy S.

Yelp
Cute place and great for a sit-down conversation. They offer a variety of pastries (I didn't see a comprehensive menu), but they're all behind the glass case and the cashier was super knowledgeable about them. They have mostly outdoor seating even inside of the store, though perhaps freshly painted because you can still smell the paint from outside. Seasonal cake (berry + kumquat) - quite good. It wasn't super heavy, but not sure how I felt about the coconut they snuck into the batter. I also wish the icing had more fruit flavor, because it tasted like a slightly lemony cream cake that happened to have some berry and kumquat on it. I could see someone else enjoying this more than I did. Americano - good enough, easily 4/5. Not the best I've had but solid. Magic Latte - nice blend of spices, but if you get it with cow's milk it can be pretty overpowering. Depends on preference, not for me. Situated interestingly at the mouth of a neighborhood, so street parking doesn't seem like an issue. Also very pet friendly as there are often cute dogs that come in and out with their owners. Seating quantity wasn't an issue while I was here, but seats aren't very comfortable and just forget about posture if you're here to get work done.

Julianna S.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem. Love the aesthetic of the place. The outdoor seating is nice and it's very calming. My muffin I tried was delicious but the coffee was a weird flavor. Definitely going to back and just try and different kind of coffee. Staff is really friendly and it's a super clean coffee shop.

JuJu L.

Yelp
Cool spot, parking can be a little bit dicey so I would say this is more of a neighborhood cafe than a destination cafe. Drinks were good, appreciate everything being plant-based. They don't have meal food, just snacks. Interesting funhouse mirror hallway leads out to a small shop and a very small outdoor area. I expected more seats based off of what I saw online, I would say there's about four tables to work at.

Melanie Y.

Yelp
My favorite coffee spot in the area. My go to drinks are either 1) the Magic Latte (comes in iced or hot) or 2) the bright eyes (for those mint lovers). Both are SOLID OPTIONS. For the bright eyes, they literally pick the mint fresh off a mint plant! Super cute, great vibe, excellent service.

Erika L.

Yelp
Order the iced Magic Latte and another iced latte but for the life of me I can't remember the name. Unfortunately both were just okay. They were just a bit bland, nothing special. We also ordered a chocolate croissant and when they say chocolate they mean it. Only downside to the pastries is that they don't have a microwave or toaster oven to heat them up. The place itself is very cute, filled with art pieces and books. There's a really nice seating area out back. Perfect spot to read a book while soaking in the sun.

Kt T.

Yelp
Great coffee , great service and price is reasonable !! Super Cute little place ! Definitely will return !

Anya V.

Yelp
Great coffee usually but today's barista doesn't know how to prepare milk for cappuccino/latte. She gave me a boiling temperature cappuccino. An amateur. All we as customers want from specialty coffee shops is high quality and consistency. Today you guys failed on both. Maybe you should train your baristas when you hire them.

Daniella F.

Yelp
20/10. Aesthetically pleasant, welcoming staff, they take their time crafting your coffee

Hellen T.

Yelp
Jurassic Magic is the cutest little coffee spot right off Washington. If you're lucky and find neighborhood street parking, the cafe itself is super cute and trendy, with options to sit inside, at the tables in the front, or in the cozy backyard. The employees are all really friendly, quick with service, and helpful with questions or adjustments. I really like the variety of pastries, from more unique options (including a spam kimchi one I've never seen anywhere else) to classics (croissants, ham and cheese, cinnamon rolls). The drinks were pretty good too, but everything is quite pricey, as can be expected.
