The Best Restaurants and Bars on Portland, Oregon’s Alberta Street | Eater Portland

"This budget-friendly, portion-generous West African food cart specializes in Senegalese and Gambian food. Try the mafe yapp, beef served in a creamy peanut and tomato sauce over white rice, or the fish yassa, a whole grilled tilapia in lemon onion sauce. Make sure to add in an order of plantains and a hibiscus drink to complete the meal." - Katherine Chew Hamilton

The 18 Best Food Carts In Portland 2024

"Kabba’s Kitchen in Alberta fills a West African gap in Portland’s eclectic food scene with Senegalese and Gambian dishes not commonly found at any brick-and-mortar. Start with the fataya, a fried meat handpie, then move on to the main event: the #1. It's a crash course in Senegalese classics, including fish yassa (also available with chicken), a whole-fried tilapia on a generous bed of yellow rice, served with a deeply flavored sauce of caramelized onions that’s livened up with lime juice, scotch bonnets, and a hit of dijon. Pair your exemplary combo with bissap, a tart hibiscus drink. " - krista garcia

13 Gourdet-Approved Portland Food Trucks and Carts | Eater

"Kabba’s cart sits in a spacious lot just past the curve where the bustling stretch of North Mississippi Ave turns into Albina. Owner Kabba Saidikhan serves “Senegambian” fare, with dishes originating from West African neighbors Senegal and Gambia. Kabba’s favorite dishes include the fish Yassa — a whole grilled tilapia in tangy lemon onion sauce, served over yellow rice with pickled veggies — and the Thiebou Yapp, a flavorful lamb dish. Diners can quench their thirst with homemade iced hibiscus and ginger drinks." - Janey Wong

12 New Portland Restaurants and Food Carts to Know - Eater Portland

"This new West African food cart off MLK not only offers killer versions of standbys — mafe yapp (Senegalese meat and peanut stew), chicken brochette, dibi. But Kabba’s one of Portland’s only spots that serves fataya, Senegalese fried meat pies fragrant with cumin." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

Google
The lady was really nice, the food was SUPER bomb, and the ambiance was nice, it's actually a small food village with several other exotic food choices. This is the one I've been to, and I'll be going back. It was good, and African cuisine isn't exactly easy to find around here. This is my new spot tho! TRY THE PLANTAINS

Google
The restaurant is a small stall tucked in the back of an event space. Since we went during the day everything was shut down and it made for an interesting (in a fun way) dining experience. I got the yassa with chicken and it was so delicious! Especially with the onions that were on the side.

Google
We had the lamb with jollof rice and the fataya (meat pies) and everything was delicious! The lamb was rich, the jollof rice glistened, even the mixed veggies were delightful. The meat pie was perfectly fried and crisp. 10/10

Google
First time experiencing some Senegalese and Gambian style food. I'm definitely glad to try something new. The chicken yassa was very tasty. The way the chicken is marinated deficient packed a lot of flavors. The Mafe Yapp reminded me of a beef curry type that I've had in the past. The Fataya (meat pies) and the Nems (egg rolls) were surprisingly good. I think I can definitely eat these all day long. Also, to wash it down, try their ginger drink. If you are looking for something new, check them out.

Google
Saw this place in Portland Monthly and knew I needed to try it. I think the food is from Somalia but I could be mistaken. But what a fun food experience. Don’t be fooled by the pictures on the cart. All the food we had was exceptional. And the #1 was fantastic. Can’t wait to go back.

Google
Kabba’s kitchen catered an event I attended recently and their food was outstanding. The meat pies and plantains were a particular hit and their chicken yassa was delicious. I reheated leftovers a few days later and they were somehow even better. Will definitely be back for more.

Google
The menu is loaded with many different types of options that will keep you wanting to come back and try something new! And there homemade hibiscus and ginger drinks are a must! The location is very accessible and has plenty of street parking as well as a parking lot directly next to it. Very clean and organized and you can smell the food a Mile away!

I went to listen to good music and left raving about great food. I had some of the best wings I’ve ever had here. I highly recommend coming here if you want your taste buds to go to heaven.

Yelp
I love ordering from this place and will make an effort to come here. But this time it was pretty disappointing with the chicken Yassa. As you can see from the pic it's missing those dark grill marks from the seasoning, what he made was what seems like a plain unseasoned chicken bites! It lacked the smoky seasoned and savory flavor. Not sure what he was feeling that day. I'll still come back, let's hope he'll grill and season the chicken right next time! And please bring back the Black Eyed Peas salad, another fave!

Yelp
Wowwwww, stunning. I've never had Senegalese food before and now I'm obsessed. This plate was flavorful, satisfying, and completely balanced. The tilapia was fried to perfection, onions were sweet and tangy, veggies refreshing and all on a bed of well seasoned rice. I'd eat this again for sureee I loved how they were blasting music and having fun - my mood was instantly boosted after all this

Yelp
I haven't had a ton of African food besides Ethiopian but it was very tasty, the flavors remind me a bit of Greek food. I have tried the Chicken Yassa (chicken & yellow rice), Thie Boulette (beef meatballs), and Thiebou Yapp (lamb & jollof rice). The fatayas are good too, like empanadas. All were tasty, my favorite probably being the Thie Boulette: tender meatballs in a savory tomato/oniony stew and served w/ rice. My only complaints would be that the meat to rice ratio is a bit rice heavy, but their rice is very savory. Also, I wish there was a few more fresh veggies than just the bit of sautéed onion and tomato slices for garnish.

Yelp
Good food for a decent price! Support black owned businesses! They have a simple menu and everything has tasted great that I've tried. I recommend the beefy, peanutty stew and the fish yassa most!

Yelp
Tried the food at a catered convention. Absolutely delicious! Cucumber and tomato salad, rice, and seasoned chicken. I practically licked the container clean.

Eric C.

Yelp
Very good food. Flavorful and delicious. The family that runs it is very nice as well. I would recommend!
