Kabisera Review - Lower East Side - New York - The Infatuation

"Entering LES’s Kabisera is like being in the living room of that one aunt who always seems to have new people over and has a penchant for rearranging all the furniture every few months. Augelyn “Augee” Francisco is that aunt. Since 2017, Kabisera has undergone a constant stream of reiterations and the ever-changing menu and frequent pop-up collaborations with other Filipino chefs and artists reflect that. Kabisera’s current mood is in offering a turo-turo style menu on top of their usual paninis, rice bowls, and salads, and utilizing their space to showcase specialty food products and artwork from local Filipino artists and entrepreneurs. Their pastries and kakanins, however, are what first put them on the map—like the biko, a sweet cake that uses glutinous rice and is topped with latik, a syrup made of coconut cream that will have you reassess your relationship with caramel. For something a little more summery, try the lighter maja blanca, a pudding of coconut milk and corn with Spanish origins that goes well with their iced ube lattes and outdoor seating." - Paolo Española

Kabisera is a Filipino restaurant located within Canal Street Market, specializing in Filipino comfort foods. We came during the lunch rush, so there wasn't much seating available. However, the staff were quick to make orders and rush food out for us. We tried the pork buns, which weren't too greasy or oily, and had great flavor. The pork was soft and juicy, and made it easy to eat in one sitting. There was also additional ingredients placed inside such as vegetables and additional sauces, which enhanced the flavor. With the recent announcement of Canal Street's closing, I hope this place can find new footing elsewhere.

Not an expert on Filipino food here, but the food was good. The chicken Adobe was yummy. The food was separated by little sections via school cafeteria plates. Wish I had tried more dishes! The eating area is nice and clean. The only downside is the blaring music.

I was a bit disappointed with the chicken inasal as it was dry and the sauce seems like watered down calamansi. I selected coconut rice with the meal but I don’t feel the essence of the coconut. However, I did enjoy the spam musubi.

First time in NYC Chinatown, we stopped in to get out of the rain and eat some hot food. It was great that you offed a vegan option on your menu. I especially liked the large, full color menu. It was easy to read and made me super excited to try something new.

I’m a tourist from the South so this was my first time in chinatown after traveling from La Guardia. As my first meal in the city I have to say that this was some of the best food I’ve had. The teriyaki chicken and chicken tinola ramen were so good and filling. The chefs also were really nice and the environment is so nice and relaxing.

Ordered the pork buns. Short wait despite it being lunch time. Very tasty: soft bread, well seasoned meat, and plenty of pickled vegetables ! Would come back again

The vibe is great, service is fast and they have the automatic register which is just awesome. For food you must try the musubi and chicken teriyaki plate.
