"Construction just began at the Legacy West development in Plano on a new Japanese restaurant that will be all about grilled meat. Dallas CultureMap reports that Kai from the Lombardi Family Concepts restaurant group is slated to open in late summer. Lombardi’s restaurants include Bistro 31, Lounge 31, Penne Pomodoro, Taverna, Toulouse, and more. Chef King Dey is heading up the kitchen, per CultureMap. When diners step into Kai, the focal point will be an open robatayaki kitchen, where meat will be grilled over hot charcoal. The 5,500-square-foot restaurant will have an airy look, with mid-century-modern interiors along with two patios. The restaurant will be open for lunch, dinner, and brunch on Sundays, and it stays open late with closing hours at midnight Sunday through Wednesday and 1 a.m. Thursday through Saturday." - Adele Chapin

Atmosphere was really nice. The server I had was very accommodating and knowledgeable. I enjoyed my vegetable sushi rolls. All items pictured I did not have. I am vegan and they did a good job accommodating my special vegan requests. I enjoyed my glass bottles of spring water. The drinks were good and the food was ok. Not a place I would go back to but, I am thankful for the experience.

Cutest atmosphere ever! We went for drinks and got the dim sum to try and it was good. I will say that the portion sizes are very very small for the price. Drinks were delicious and the service was great!

I visit all the time! I love the food and the atmosphere. The lounge is a bit too dark at night for me, but I am obsessed with the dining seating. I also visited on my birthday recently and sadly, the waiter spoke to us in a condescending tone. Other than that, I still highly recommend Kai for special events!

The sushi here is awesome. It’s a cool vibe with nice scenery. The service is nice as well. Get the Sunny’s Roll. It’s full of flavor. One things I found odd was that my food was brought to me in a strange order. First came the spicy edamame (the appetizer), then the sushi, then the seaweed salad I ordered… The servers also seemed to not know which food orders went to each table. Two servers brought other folks food to our table twice.

My wife and I went to KAI and our experience there was amazing. We tried the fried calamari, had drinks (including a sake flight), fresh nigiri, sushi, and the dessert platter they do. It was all amazing and the service was excellent. There were so many other options on the menu we wanted to try as well, so we’ll definitely be going back! Thank you KAI for a wonderful and memorable evening.

Cassidy was our waitress and she was so amazing!! Her vibe was just what we needed and she provided amazing recommendations from the entire menu. Literally everything that we tried was delicious. Make sure to try the calamari, it was to die for! Absolutely no complaints. Thank you Cassidy for making our experience great!!

Great atmosphere and food. Pricey but you pay for the ambience. Service is slow but you’re enjoying the surroundings. I guess all my stars go to the vibe!

The atmosphere is good but the attention and food leave a lot to think about. I went with my wife and ordered two sushi rolls that were really normal. A cocktail that I told the waiter named Juan was tasteless and he literally ignored me. We ordered two more rolls in which I specified that they were NOT SPICY and surprise! They were super spicy. I told the waiter and far from understanding the situation he told me “seriously? That doesn’t sting.” We invited him to try it and he told me that he no longer felt the spicy taste. 👎👎 I paid the entire bill without making any complaints to avoid problems and we went dancing. It would have been better to just have beers and dance instead of having dinner.

Yelp
Trendy instagram worthy restaurant and lounge in Legacy West. I visited on a Saturday evening for a birthday reservation, you enter to the lobby/foyer area with option to take the stairs or elevator up. Upon entry, I was greeted by friendly smiling hostess who helped me to navigate to the rest of the party already seated. Our server was personable and friendly, she explained menu choices well and patiently helped make selections. We ordered a variety of sushi for a table of 6 ladies, she explained it would be served on a large sharable platter; overall the sushi was flavorful and fresh would definitely recommend. We ordered differing drinks, I had the Kai- Arita it's a frozen drink similar to margarita, with Don Julio, very different flavor but in a refreshing way. Seems like a popular location, around about 7pm the place definitely filled with more patrons. Would definitely visit again in the future.

Yelp
Not really an upscale restaurant as they try to act like. Got a call when we're 5 minutes from the restaurant asking us to confirm the reservation even though I had confirmed via text the day before... if they really wanted to know they should call way earlier than that. They also made sure that we agreed to a 90 minute reservation. Once there the servers were not appropriately dressed for a 4:30 dinner reservation. While I understand this place does become a bar/club at night we were there early expecting a more upscale experience. Food was small for the price and honestly was mediocre. I've had better food from places that are half the price. Overall the place seems confused on trying to be upscale Japanese restaurant and a nightclub.

Yelp
I decided to have my birthday dinner (6/5) with 14 of my friends at Kai, with this being my favorite restaurant. Unfortunately this was a big mistake as service and food were horrible this day. Two friends ordered drinks with champagne. The champagne was served flat. We asked them to replace the two drinks. They were served again flat. When I went to the bar to get the drinks made right asking for a new bottle of champagne. The bartender was extremely rude. The manager on site came out and was extremely rude, as well to the point of causing an argument and being disrespectful when she brought the drinks to my friends at the table. She completely destroyed the vibe of my birthday celebration. I went on to order the oxtail and bone marrow fried rice, which is my absolute favorite meal. A friend of mine also ordered this. They served the food burnt. It was as if they had scraped the bottom of the pan after the food had burnt and just mixed it all together. I am talking about burnt where the food was black. The food smelled burnt and look burnt and tasted burnt. I was very shocked that Kai would serve this inedible meal to anybody. It was disappointing that Kai was very off on this day and pretty much ruined my birthday dinner.

Yelp
Food is great. There is a live dj on Friday nights. Presentation of food is insta worthy. I had the lobster fried rice and it was so good. Service is pretty attentive

Yelp
This is my first time here for HH and I am pleasantly impressed. The ambiance is too notch but the food I really good. Our lovely bartenders Marcus and Mark (and handsome if I must say) were fabulous and super attentive. He made me a homemade lemonade with vodka-mmmwahhhh!!!! The sushi is perfectly made-not too thick. The prices are super reasonable! Stop in and treat yourself! Thank me later!

Yelp
Kai was definitely a cool spot. We went after dinner and got a table in the lounge. The atmosphere is cool, the music was good, and they interesting drink options. Its a restaurant too, but I recommend it as a late night spot to chill.

Yelp
Ok so I am torn on how I feel on the restaurant. I definitely agree with all the reviews on how it's great aesthetically and how it's great to bring girls or to have a nice date night. But, that being said, I did not love the food. Which is ok, because I mainly wanted to go here to have a nice Valentine's Day dinner and be able to take beautiful photos. Food ratings: - Their "pad Thai"- not pad Thai at all. The smell was so good that my husband and I were excited and ready but as soon as you bite in it's like who cooked this? It was literally 99% soy sauce. No sweetness at all like traditional pad Thai. That was a total bust. I couldn't eat it so my husband did his best to finish it. - My tuna tower was not bad- not amazing - but not inedible like the pad Thai. It looks odd in my photo but it is a good size portion and I ate it in quickly which I appreciate Drink ratings- - I got a cucumber cocktail which was literally my favorite. Look at that zen garden presentation too! Perfect balance of sweet and refreshing I was so impressed - my husband got the valentines smoked maple old fashioned. He really didn't like it sadly - I tried it and couldn't get into it either - I finished off our dinner with an espresso martini - their specialty one with sake I believe- I've had really good ones and the one here is was not it. Waitress experience- - it was very odd- our waitress was not nice at first and it was a stark contrast to how she treated other clients. But after a while she softened up and got nicer. But the intro was off putting for sure. Also I didn't mind but just know that this is a "sexy" restaurant and the staff which is mostly good looking young women (do your thang I don't judge) will be donning a uniform of short leather crop tops and mini skirts. So if you're not into that scene just be prepared. Ambiance - inside of the place is so pretty. I love the neon signs and fake flower walls as cheesy as they sound- it really does make a difference! I will say be prepared to wait even if you have reservations. I missed mine by 15 minutes and I think they had to start the process over and my husband and I ended up waiting like close to an hour. I would definitely recommend for a fun girls night out A get dressed up and take pics- maybe for a bday dinner- but don't expect to love all your food and drink and be prepared to drop some dough!

Yelp
Kai restaurant exudes an aura of sophistication. My culinary journey at Kai was an unforgettable fusion of flavors and ambiance. The service was excellent my server was very attentive. I started with the chicken and truffle dumplings, a symphony of savory delights. Bursting with robust flavors, each dumpling was a harmonious blend of tender chicken and decadent truffle, leaving an indelible mark on my palate. It's safe to say that these delectable morsels will be a fixture on my future visits. Next, I ventured into the realm of the Asian style tuna pizza. This culinary masterpiece struck the perfect balance between delicate flavors and a tantalizing hint of spice. With every bite, the freshness of the tuna and the crispness of the crust danced together in perfect harmony, creating a culinary symphony that left me craving more. As for the main course, the oxtail and bone marrow fried rice stole the spotlight. The succulent oxtail, paired with the rich essence of bone marrow infused throughout the fried rice, was a revelation in every forkful. Each bite was a tantalizing journey of flavors and textures, showcasing the culinary prowess of Kai's kitchen. I took the what I couldn't finish in the restaurant home and finished it the next morning and it was just as good as it had been the previous night.

Yelp
Atmosphere: Kai has a great ambiance. It is a beautiful place to bring your wife and have dinner. The service was also pretty good. We sat at the sushi bar in front of the chefs, but overall just interacted with our waitress who was kind and mostly prompt. Food: The food was very lack luster. The chicken and wagyu beef dumplings were just ok. The vegetable and Steve roll both didn't have much flavor or texture. The cod was extremely soft (maybe slightly undercooked?) and not very flavorful or appropriately salted. The spritz was nice but a little too sweet (just our preference). Overall Experience: For a $112 meal, this was pretty average food. I wouldn't go out of my way to come here for the food alone. You can get better elsewhere. We would only come back if we are invited by friends or want a nice ambiance to sit in. Portions are pretty small which we are okay with if the food is phenomenal...but that wasn't the case. P.S. Directly after our meal I walked over to shake shack and got a burger and fries so I could be satiated.

Yelp
It's a more upscale restaurant. Japanese fusion. The entrance is interesting and I was confused about the restaurant being on the 2nd floor (stairs or elevator.) I can see a lot of birthdays / celebrations happening here. To be full, think you need to spend $100 per person... Server said it's more tapas / family style. It's pretty dark in there. Got the legacy roll ($22) - rice less roll. Presentation was good, but for the price it was small. Seasonal vegetables tempura ($17) - pretty standard. Chicken and truffle dumplings ($16, they ran out of some other dumplings that we wanted). Pad Thai ($27) - standard. Taro of dreams ($8), non alcoholic drink. The taro stood out to me; it's very sweet though. Kai Matsuri ($50), a big dessert platter with a beautiful presentation. The infinity pond dessert was my favorite which is lychee coconut panna cotta. The 'mt fuji' brownie is very dark. Service was attentive. Not a place I'd come back to again more so because of the price point and portions. But this is expected for a restaurant like this. But I enjoyed the food.

Yelp
What a delightful surprise Kai was! I've avoided it as I assumed it was expensive (which it was) for mediocre food (which it was not!). However when a friend and I wanted to try sushi someplace new for Girls Night we decided to make a reservation at Kai and give it a shot. We were seated immediately upon arrival at our reservation time and both the hostess and the staff who brought our water and menus were very polite. The ambiance is very dark with colored up-lighting. It's beautifully decorated but the tables are seated very close to one another and good luck reading the menu without a flashlight (lol). We both ordered cocktails to start, The Big Papa for me and the Legend of Taro for her. Both looked amazing and tasted even better! We were both so impressed! The prices were comparative to other cocktails around town as well. Our waitress was incredible and I don't say that lightly. She was always close by, but never intrusive or rushing. She made great menu suggestions and was honest about her favorites. I chose the Sushi "Steve" Roll and the Pork Belly Bao. The sushi was incredible! The Bao buns were okay, but it was mostly bun with a tiny little piece of pork belly inside. I wish I'd gotten two rolls instead of the Bao buns and will do that for sure next time! The bill was hefty, but when I come back I'm aiming for Happy Hour so I can eat and drink all the goodness with a slightly smaller bill .

Yelp
Kai is an Asian-inspired restaurant located in Legacy West. They have three bars overlooking the skyline. If you're looking for a great date night spot, you should check out Kai. They serve classic Asian Dishes with European and French influences. The decor is a mix of mid-century modern and contemporary. Kai has happy hour, Monday - Friday from 4-6. HH consists of $ 5 beer, $6 wells, $7 wines, $8 specialty cocktails, as well as a variety of half priced appetizers such as edamame and calamari. The parking is limited so it's best to valet next door at Earl's, or walk to the parking garage. See the attached photo for the dress code

Yelp
My boyfriend and I came in for a drink, sat at the bar for 15 minutes and didn't get served or asked what we needed...we started talking to a couple next to us...When we ordered we were told we cannot be served because we looked intoxicated. We didn't have one drink, discrimination at its finest my boyfriend is Indian. Go to Kai if you want to be accused of being intoxicated when you're not. Awful and so disgusted

Karen L.

Yelp
Title: Kai Restaurant: A Tight Squeeze and Tiny Eats At Kai Restaurant, my friends and I dove into an evening of culinary minimalism that left us questioning our life choices. The sushi rolls, priced between $18-20, arrived so fashionably small--with just six delicate pieces each--that we quickly realized we needed to triple our order just to approach satiety. Packed in tighter than chopsticks in a box, we found ourselves hemmed into a tiny table. When we asked for a bit more elbow room, we were told that the vast prom kingdom had claimed all the spacious real estate. Yes, surrounded by the future prom king and queen courts in their full regalia, we contemplated a retreat, but soldiered on. Looking back, we probably should have taken the hint and vacated, but instead, we made our way through a very disappointing dining experience. If you're considering Kai for your next meal out, you might want to pack a snack... and perhaps a cushion!

Yelp
Celebrated a 5 year anniversary at Kai recently. Being from SoCal, I wasn't expecting much from Dallas and appealing options were pretty limited. But I'm so glad we found this spot, the suggestions we got were great! Had nice decorations and a fun subtle club vibe going on towards the end of our night for a table further down from us, it really reminded me of some restaurant-clubs at home. I have no complaints about the food, it was all good. Of all the wagyus I've had, this one was the fattiest and most melt-in-your mouth. I've never had wagyu with lime until now and I was pleasantly surprised with how well it went together. My boyfriend enjoyed his sea bass, the portion for the furikake fries was great, chicken truffle dumplings were plump, and the pork belly was surprisingly my favorite! A lot of times I've had thick cut pork belly, half of it is just fat. Holding the skewers were a bit sticky, but the pork belly here was more meaty, cooked so well, and came with great sauce. For dessert, I've always wanted to try panna cotta so I had the Infinity Pond. I was a bit hesitant because I hate coconut but it wasn't overwhelming at all and this dish was just so delicious and a great "light" dessert. We also had the Mt Fuji brownie, that was also really good. Definitely a chocolate lover's delight and the strawberry sauce was so yummy and not overly sweet. It was also fun to "break" the mountain for the little volcano moment. Drinks were so delicious too, one of the best things about this place! The SaiSei martini is truly an elevated and smoother version of an espresso martini. Presentation was so cool too because it came in a box of dry ice fog. The Zen Garden is also stunning, it was like a light cocktail that didn't even taste like alcohol, almost like a more refreshing mojito. It came on a zen garden with rocks and a bonsai tree, it was so fun to play around with and rake patterns into the sand. Lastly, the service was above and beyond! Our waiter was so knowledgeable about the options and his suggestions never disappointed. We were also given complimentary glasses of champagne for our anniversary celebration which was so kind! Overall, definitely worth the price and I would return if I'm ever in Dallas again.

Lala B.

Yelp
I had the salmon, mixed veggies and dragon roll. All of it was delicious and flavorful.

Colin H.

Yelp
Biggest rip off I've ever seen. So expensive and you basically get a snack. Took forever to get sushi

Nathan A.

Yelp
We eat in some of the finest restaraunts in Dallas and we find ourselves returning to Kai weekly. The food is incredible and the drinks are very good. You get the best service. It is also a beautiful restaraunt with a great selection of decorative rooms with diffrent levels of comfort. If you want a horigotatsu style of eating, a romantic city vibe or a view of Windrose Legacy west then pick from 1 of their many beautiful rooms to eat in. Simply INCREDIBLE!

Alex B.

Yelp
In summary: for a fancy/elevated night out, probably not for me. For a fun night out, absolutely great. The decor is great, the place feels lively and the openness of the rooms is so welcoming. The wait staff were very friendly and accommodating for checking if items were vegan that didn't not have the vegetarian symbol. The food was a let down for us, didn't really feel like anything special. Was really average and for the price we expected things be a little on the nicer end. The peppers were good and the vegetable rice was also good. 7/10. On the negative side, The tempura vegetables had some pieces where the batter hadn't cooked fully and was pretty unpleasant. Personally the batter was too think overall and overwhelmed the vegetables for me. I don't think I'd order it again. It felt really trendy and a great place to socialize. If you're looking for intimacy- this isn't the spot to go. Also, be sure to make a reservation! Otherwise, you're looking at a wait. I saw several people who didn't have a reservation decide to leave, I'm not sure what time they were given but enough that they chose to go somewhere else.

Jessica B.

Yelp
Loved it! I figured it'd be busy for Valentine's weekend so we made our reservation at 6. They happen to have free valet at the corner of the street beside the restaurant. When we arrived we loved the neon sign in the entryway, perfect for a couple of pictures before heading upstairs to check in. The upstairs decor was just as picturesque. We were seated right away and our waitress was there shortly after. She helped us choose drinks based on specials and asked about allergies which can be very important for some! Food services was quick too -- everything tasted fresh, and the flavors paired great! I recommend having a sushi roll as appetizer, they're small enough and one of the best I've tasted in the area. The Oxtail and Bone Marrow Fried Rice with the Sake flight did not disappoint!

Alyssa M.

Yelp
Beautiful venue, great food and wonderful service. Every time I go here I dig in before taking a picture of my food but I recommend the sushi, lamb chops and fried rice

Temika M.

Yelp
The food was delicious and the service was outstanding! This is one of the sexiest looking places I've been to in a while and the setting was exactly what we were looking for! My daughter left her food, which by the time we realized, the staff had trashed it. She was distraught because she had only taken a few bites, but the manager was awesome enough to replace it. Made he birthday extra special

Arthur P.

Yelp
This place lives up to what it's meant to be which is an instagrammy trendy upscale and great for date type of place and hey I'm here for it! The portions are smaller, and the prices are higher so keep that in mind!

Sarah B.

Yelp
Celebrating a new job and an evening in Dallas, this was an EXCELLENT choice for a great experience! The food itself was outstanding- the sushi so fresh and high quality, an incredible assortment of foods on the menu. Who would've thought that the steak (yes, STEAK!) was going to steal the show? We asked for the chef to slice it in advance so we could share amongst the three of us, and it was SO GOOD, we ordered a second round! Not to be outdone, the service was TOP NOTCH! Ben did a fantastic job of pacing our meal - we ordered in 'rounds' so that it didn't all come out at once. And the entire wait staff was working as a team, pouring water to keep our glasses full, bussing away empty plates to make room for the next set. We couldn't help but chat with the manager at the end of the meal to compliment the entire TEAM and they way they worked together. Ran-D says the place turns into a night club on the weekends, and the lounge side definitely looks like it would be a swank place to come hang out, but for a Thursday night dinner, it was certainly five stars!

Kulpreet B.

Yelp
Came back to Kai for a late night dinner on a weekday. The service was amazing. Our waitress made awesome recommendations both for food and drinks. She was super kind and accommodating to our friends and their baby boy. The late night menu is super delicious. We went for the Sunny rolls, Dynamite roll, dragon roll (my fave) and one other (sorry didn't catch the name). The hot rock shrimp was delicious. We asked for seconds and did not regret it. The drinks were also super unique and beautiful. Highly recommend visiting Kai not only on the weekends but on a weekday too.

Santhosh J.

Yelp
We picked Kai for our 25th wedding anniversary dinner since both of us like Thai. We were looking for an Asian restaurant that had the ambiance that would do justice to the celebration, the place definitely had the vibe that matched our expectation. To ensure that we didn't have wait time, I booked a table for 2 through Open Table and got seated within few minutes on arrival at the restaurant. Even though we had mentioned the occasion, we were initially given a table that was sandwiched between 2 other tables that were occupied - we had to ask for another option which didn't seem to sit well with the hostess!! Our server was Alyssa, she was nice and clarified our questions well. We ordered Fried Calamari, Fried Rice and Thai Basil Chicken. Fried Rice was very nice, we loved the twist in the dish which was to leave veggies crunchy. The chicken in the dish had a bit of a raw chicken taste which my wife found hard to deal with. The Basil Chicken was spot on. For drinks, I had the Dragon Chaser while my wife took Peaches of Immortality, the latter was a better drink I thought. Had enough punch in that drink and the presentation was also unique (was wondering if some customers would find it objectionable to sip alcohol out of a Buddha...) Lighting is dim, expect the place to be reasonably loud since lot of people come in groups to celebrate milestones and occasions. Overall, it was a great experience and we will definitely consider KAI for our next occasion.

Samra H.

Yelp
The ambiance of this place is very cute and aesthetic. My group got seated in the lounge area which was very nice and dim lighting. For food I had the chicken and truffle dumplings and those were so good. I could have definitely gone for seconds. For my main meal I had the pad thai and that was delicious. For my drink I had the One Night in Bangkok and that was ok. Not my favorite. My friend had the Legend of Taro drink and that one was really good. Service we had was great.

Gina H.

Yelp
The server did a great job giving us recommendations on food and drinks when we asked of her opinion. The restaurant itself is very beautiful inside and even downstairs you can snap a photo by the cool signs. The pad thai was my favorite as well as the lobster tacos. I also got two sushi rolls don't remember the name but one of the two was really really good. The cocktails were also fantastic and very unique. I love trying new cocktails and this is definitely the place you can do that with. We will 100% be back soon!

Linda N.

Yelp
I enjoyed my company's Christmas party here. Everything was divine from service to the presentation of food and drink. I got to order eggplant miso and tempura. I also had a delightful taro mocktail. I can't name all the desserts I tried, but it was devouringly decadent. I know I will definitely come back to try other things on the menu!

Sapna B.

Yelp
Came here on a Saturday evening for date night with my husband. Overall we had a good experience and the food was good but there is really no value for money. I'll get into it below. Starters: Started with Hamachi Kurudo, Salmon Sashimi, Soup Dumplings and Spicy Beef Wagyu Potstickers. The kurudo was so good and was dressed well and I loved the added heat and the crunch with the jalapeños. The soup dumplings were $16 for THREE! I can get double the dumplings for half the amount at my local Chinese restaurant and they are the same quality as the ones here. $5 for one dumpling is a bit extra. The Spicy Wagyu dumplings I felt were good but not as great as I thought they'd be. The outer edges of the dumplings were too crispy making them have the texture of something stale. Next Order: Rockshrimp and Wagyu Tataki. The rockshrimp had potential. The spicy Mayo sauce was served on the side but had it all been tossed together I think it would've been better. The shrimp was also a bit salty. The Wagyu Tataki had a market price of $60. I will say the 5 super thin slices of Wagyu were amazing and they melt in your mouth, but they bring you a hot stone and you're required to cook it yourself. Final Course: Specialty Roll & Filet. Specialty roll was good no complaints there. I had high expectations for the filet given the way they described their 1,000 degree oven but it really wasn't any better than a filet from a good steakhouse. It was served with a truffle butter which was good but it almost felt like the butter had been sitting out for a while given it was too melted down. Dessert: We went with the "soy sauce" brownie which thankfully our server explained to us was not a salty brownie but more like a salted caramel type of deal. It was good but I would've much preferred a regular chocolate brownie. There are lots of sushi places in the Dallas area so I don't think we'd be back.

Ryan B.

Yelp
Was invited to a work happy hour that had hors d'oeuvres being served. Some raw tuna on chips.... Didn't have a lot. Maybe just four or five things, they're small. Other meals I had I made myself, which just consist of brown rice and chicken breast, which I eat every day. A few hours into the night, I realized I was getting chills. Then I had a fever over 102... Later some diarrhea and fever and chills continuing into the next day along with some intense vomiting. No COVID, tested to make sure. They clearly don't know how to handle raw fish.... I'm always skeptical of these non-Japanese pan Asian places that serve raw fish.

Lina M.

Yelp
Alysa is your girl!!! She was such an amazing server and handled her tables very well with a smile. She was so patient with us, described the meals very well and had great recommendations. She ensured to check on us at the right times, not too quick and not too late if that makes sense (Some servers at different restaurants will either check on you ever second or forget about you). The vibe was great and beautiful! The food was delicious we got the seafood dynamite rolls, steak, truffle fries, pad Thai and chicken dumplings. Omg each one of them were heavenly. Really impressed!

Mike S.

Yelp
The best part of this restaurant is it's vibe and decor. Very modern and cool and details are well done, from the moment you enter to the seating all the way to their bathrooms. During the week it's a regular restaurant , however the night I was there, they had a live music (Thursday). The staff told us that half of the restaurant becomes more of a lounge/club in weekends. The food was above average overall. Well designed and presentation was excellent. Great place for celebrations, parties, or dates. Not the best for families with kids.

Henry R.

Yelp
Nice atmosphere, I had a couple of drinks with the seafood dynamite maki at the bar. Bartender was nice and attentive. Definitely will be back Second time dining there not so great. Made reservations for two but still had to wait 15mins. Asked for a booth but instead was seated on the enclosed balcony. Not a good experience

Ben R.

Yelp
Wasn't really sure what to expect when walking into this restaurant. You're in a beautiful & $$$ area near Legacy West so knew I'd be spending some money. The ambiance of Kai was very confusing. It was a dim-lit vibe you'd expect for a romantic dinner but they were blasting loud club music which was a turnoff for the group that I was with. The espresso martinis were very delicious at $16 a pop. I ordered for dinner the oxtail & bone marrow fried rice. Holy sh** this was some of the best food I've had in a while. Certainly a unique order but our server recommended it and I'm glad she did. It was a lot of food & very flavorful. Overall this place was a 6/10. Cool spot to hang & get drinks but the menu seemed more hit or miss.

Yelp
I made a reservation at Kai a couple weeks in advance for Valentine's Day and Kai did not disappoint. I was a bit hesitant due to reviews I had seen, however my experience at Kai surpassed my expectations. I had made several calls the day of my reservation so that I could valet nearby. The hostess was consistently kind, patient, and helpful. When I arrived to Kai, I took the elevator upstairs and let the hostess know I had made a reservation. She then led us to our seat. The atmosphere was incredible! It was classy, fun, elegant, modern, and full of color. I wish I had gotten pictures of the interior, but I was too busy enjoying my night as a whole. Our server was attentive, kind, and helpful. I ordered the bone marrow and ox tail Fried Rice which was absolutely DELICIOUS! (FYI its an acquired taste so be careful if you are picky about texture). My girlfriend ordered the Korean BBQ Burger. The burger was bursting with flavor, well rounded in the meat to veggie/bun ratio, and the bun was thick and oh so buttery! Lastly we ended our night with a delightful brownie that makes my mouth water at the thought of it. The dark chocolate brownie was topped off with some sort of strawberry ganache within a dark chocolate shell. The bitterness of the chocolate in combination with the acidity and sweetness of the strawberry ganache was absolutely DIVINE! Thank You Kai for the memories, experience, and cuisine. I will definitely be coming back.

Yelp
Cute spot. My husband and I have come here a few times for date night, I even had my bday here. It's trendy, decor is cute, music is loud and thumping, you gotta yell to hear eachother, everyone dressed cute here from guests to staff. All things I like! Food is good, but took 1 star away bc portion size compared to price is a bit on the ridiculous side. We got LA prices in the house but not LA portions . Lots of bad reviews but we haven't experienced that during any of our visits.

Yelp
Came here late on a Saturday night for drinks with a friend. Overall the drinks were really good (although pricey) and there was a lot of people but it was still pretty easy for us to grab seats. It turns into like a club at night so the music was pretty loud and everyone was dancing, but there was enough open space that you can get seats where it wasn't too loud. Only took off a star because we had to basically chase someone down for a drink menu/ to get served. Super aesthetic looking place for pictures though!

Yelp
Well.... I should have taken heed to some of the 3 star reviews before mine because they are pretty spot on. Ambiance good, food not so good. I think this is a cool spot for drinks or late nice music and dancing, but I would definitely recommend eating somewhere else. It's not that the food is inedible (though the octopus was close), but it's pricey and barely mediocre. You just aren't going to get the quality and taste you expect to get with those price tags. However --- if you find yourself here eating, I would recommend the chicken & truffle dumplings. They were actually quite tasty. The other food items we had were just "meh". I wish I have something great to say about the drinks too, but I had a pretty terrible espresso martini. It was essentially a martini glass full of Baily's. Maybe that was a one off though, because my boyfriend really enjoyed his drinks. The service was fine, a little slow, but overall, it was standard. Bottom line - Go for the environment, not the food.

Yelp
*applauds* do i ever give a 5 star review? . . . . it's rare, but kai DESERVES it. i was itching to come to this restaurant & i decided that my first trip would be during happy hour, great choice due to the amount of specials they run. $8 for their speciality cocktail (changes each time i'm there) & $5 for their regular cocktails. they also have food specials as well, it's worth it. i haven't had sushi in a long time - - pretty much was a born-again virgin to it, but decided to let kai take my virginity & boy was i glad. that tempura roll was the BEES KNEES. i loved the edamame as well. I've had so many of their cocktails, i'm not sure the names of all of them. i came here like 2-3x in one week and was getting my hands and mouth on anything i could. ambiance: the elevator is super cute & classy, you don't have to take it to get to the main level of the restaurant, but why take the stairs? the lobby area isn't congested and the hostesses are really quick with getting you seated. i do recommend making a resy, but it's not mandatory on a weekday. the patio area is my favorite place to sit because it has this indoor/outdoor vibe that you only get from certain stadiums. the roof literally can come off. it's fly. service: excellent service & always well-staffed. the servers know the menu pretty well & i can always trust their recommendations. they all dress so cute too (: food: like i said, i've had quite a bunch & sometimes, i just come to enjoy myself and not take photos, but trust that whatever you order, will be great.

Yelp
Come here dressed to impress, and best to make reservations on OpenTable. Kai is on the second floor of the building, so when you walk through the entry door, you can either use the stairs or elevator to go in. I had a warm greeting by the hostesses at the front desk, and they seated me promptly. Our server was just as friendly and extremely helpful answering our questions about various drinks, and provided great recommendations. Our party orders quite the appetizer spread (one of them we ordered twice!) everything was plated beautifully and tasted delicious that I forgot to take photos of 2 of 4 we ordered! Calamari, shishito peppers, tempura vegetables, and shrimp tempura rolls (2x!) were more than enough to feed us. During the earlier part of our happy hour visit, the music was calm, classical; by the end of our visit, it was almost bouncing club like. Great vibes, delicious food and drinks. A good place to come visit at Legacy West.

Yelp
Me and my husband came here to celebrate Valentine's Day. We were seated in a nice romantic area of the restaurant. The food was absolutely delicious, It did leave me wishing the portions were a little bigger. Our waitress was friendly and accommodating. We took an Uber so I don't know much about the parking situation but glad we took an Uber because Legacy West is a very busy area.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place. My review is based on 2 drinks and 1 appetizer. I didn't like either of the drinks I ordered with the first being One Night in Bangkok. It tasted weird. Something was just off. I sent it back and got a different one which I don't remember the name of, but it was a little better, just a little. We got the tuna pizza, and after the first bite it was like womp womp womp. Maybe had I never had the tuna pizza at Akira Back, I would have liked Kai's. It definitely fell short because one it comes out looking like nachos instead of pizza. Two, it just taste okay. Based on this experience, I don't think I'll return; I am glad that I got to try it though.

Yelp
I highly recommend this place. It's such a cute place. Usually places that have the instagram aesthetic lack in food but the food was fresh and delicious. They also have a late night menu. I was running late due to the recent nationwide airport/airlines disaster but the late night menu saved my life! Lol I ordered the Hamachi crudo and Steve roll. The Steve roll had too much avocado (that had a guacamole consistency) for me. I scraped some of it off but it was still enjoyable. I will warn you that Kāi turns into a lounge with a DJ and people dancing. So if you don't want that kind of vibe while eating them come before 9pm. The drinks were good and were decently priced. Check this place out.

Yelp
July 2022 Thursday 6:30-8:00ish Reservation for two. Valet complimentary - work off of tips. (Give your phone number, and it texts you a ticket number. You can go in and update your car descriptions if you'd like) Kai has the aesthetic couch, photo op right when you open the doors to the right. Snap your picture before heading upstairs. Elevator to the second floor, or walk upstairs. Dress code: it just wasn't followed. I saw flip flops and denim shorts everywhere. I don't have a problem with that, but if I ever come up and get turned away for wearing flat sandals..... Brandon was our server. 10/10 recommend him. He was very good at explaining Kai as a restaurant, asking us if we had any allergies, and explaining the menu. Appetizer: seafood dynamite (sushi)-- comes with 6 or 7 pieces. (I didn't like it, but my friend who eats sushi, did. I ate a piece of the crawfish. Tasted. very, very freshhhhh) My friend also had (it'll be pictured) some sort of rice ball?? Maybe, idk. With raw tuna on top. I tried it, and it was actually good. I do NOT eat raw fish. Food: I ordered the bacon and Kimchi fried rice. The egg on the top has runny yolk, FYI. I would reorder this. 8/10 on the taste meter. DRANKS: We had the one night in Bangkok (small, yet aesthetically pleasing with the dragon fruit garnish and sparkles inside of the drink. Sweet) $16 or $17 for one. Would re-order, but wasn't strong although saki is in there. Kai-Arita. Yes I paid the $42 for it. It comes in a 1942 Don Julio glass. It was for the experience-- no, I wouldn't re-order. Yes, I think you should try it at least once if you want your insta pic. Drink should've been $25 at most. Comes frozen. The other drink in the review has wine in it. My friend liked it and would've ordered another. It has the "dry red wine taste" to it, so I wasn't a fan. My bill with tip was $100+ for just my two drinks and entree. Next time: I will request sitting in the bar area, or in the area with the pink-flowered ceilings. I would order the oxtail fried rice

Yelp
the only reason why this review gets any stars is because the ambiance and the staff were great! but the food was not good unfortunately. and the food here is expensive for what it is, considering you could get much better food for half the price. I will start with the duck. the duck tasted amazing with whatever sauce it came with, but be warned the sauce is a $7 up charge from the already costly charge of the duck that's ~$30. this was probably the best thing i ate here. the wagyu in the potstickers lacked flavor. the pad thai was ok. just ok. the chicken had no flavor; the only saving grace was the fact it had shrimp. there is better pad thai available at other businesses. i had high expectations for the oxtail fried rice but unfortunately it was EXCEPTIONALLY bland. it just tasted like they pressure cooked the oxtail and tossed it with rice. there was NO flavor at all. the oxtail wasn't seasoned, the rice wasn't seasoned. the marrow did not add any flavor to the dish at all. all in all, i would only return back to this establishment to buy drinks. the food here is not good.

Yelp
Ok I've been here twice so far. I went to my cousin's 40th and again for a happy hour. The décor is lovely and very instaworthy. I've had the chicken and truffle dumplings, seafood delight roll, and oxtail and bone marrow fried rice. I really like the dumplings as the sauce was delicious. The fried rice was finger licking good. The saltiness of the bone marrow was a perfect add. Wish there was a little more oxtail meat though. Now to the sushi roll. The flavor was great. My only negative comment was that the rice was soft. Like the roll literally fell apart as I was trying to eat it. Before you say anything my friends and family both times ordered multiple different rolls and they all were falling apart. I believe if they get this part right then it will be amazing.

Yelp
So when coming here I had big expectation. I must say that the design of the space is INSANE. So detailed and beautiful! It's a whole vibe. So we grab a sit in the lounge bar. Service: I feel like it's 50/50 I asked for soy sauce for my sushi and waited like 5 minutes, some of them seem irritated. It's kinda slow as well. Food: so, I can't even say I was a fan of the food. We got a bunch of appetizers , sushi and all dishes were not above "ok or pretty decent or good" the cocktails tho , were a hit!
