The 14 Best Restaurants in Chiang Mai, Thailand | Eater

"After khao soi, Chiang Mai’s other noodle superstar is khanom jeen nam ngiaw, thin, round rice noodles topped with a tart and savory broth of pork ribs and tomatoes. Open since 1977, this market-bound stall offers a hearty version of the dish, plus a variety of other curries served over the eponymous noodles. [$]" - Austin Bush

Michelin recommended place Overall: 5/7 Nam-ngeaw (1): 4/7 Super spicy, noodles are good. Personally too spicy for me, but perhaps (3) would be better option in future. Gaeng-phed-neau (6) red beef curry: 5/7 Good, complex flavours. Much less spicy. Chicken kao soi (7): 6/7 Super good. Lots of depth and the noodles are fantastic.

It's like eating at a school canteen here. Weekday lunch time, the rest of the market was plenty empty and the lunch tables were filling up steadily. Queue up and pick your choice noodle(s) - the portion is small, don't be shy to order 2 or even 3 bowls! - pay at the spot and receive your order, then pick up the free garnish (green mustard etc.) at the end of the queue along with cutlery. Sit anywhere empty. Don't forget to bring your dishes and empty out the leftovers at the dish return station 😄 I had 2 bowls of green curry and nam ngiaw. The former was a bit too sweet for my taste but the chunks of chicken were definitely welcome, while the latter packed a punch on the 🌶️ department but had very little meat. Overall they're ok, not bad but I've had better elsewhere.

I was somewhat underwhelmed by the two dishes I had here. The pork curry had a decent taste but the meat was gristly, some parts inedible. The curry was nicely spicy though. The curry noodles were very simple. The noodles were very overcooked but the sauce was nice. Although each bowl was 40 tbt they came with no condiments (like pickled mustard greens) which they usually do. Pay 20 tbt more per bowl elsewhere.

Despite good reviews from influencers, I find the foods lacked balanced taste. Each one I tried is either too sweet, too spicy, too pungent in herbal, or lack saltinesses. Locating in fresh market is not the best atmosphere or smell.

Famous, and cheap too. I ordered a mix with pork blood and chicken. 40B. It is very spicy to my taste, but is okay. I finish it all. No need to queue, just look carefully on the menu sign, decide what you want and tell the server. Pay upfront. Then find yourself a seat or order a drink as well. After meal please remember to put back the bowls to the designated area and help make this place clean and tidy.

This curry noodle shop is located in a food market in a residential area. It is listed in the Michelin Guide, so it has many foreign customers. The spiciness is just right for the average Japanese person. And there is not much soup. Recommended with fried pork skin chips. I would like to call it "Non-soup curry tantanmen."

Surprisingly the best red and green curry I've ever had. Strong, bold, and spicy just as Thai food should be. I'm impartial to the color curries but the Nam-ngeaw was lovely as well.

I felt that the Nam Ngiao soup was a bit too salty, but overall it wasn't bad. The shop was quite clean.
