From the owners of Ruenpair, we welcome you to our new dessert café! Taking inspiration from my parents who started Ruenpair, my wife and I wanted to bring you a taste of Thai desserts presented in a modern form. We specialize in Thai and Southeast Asian inspired gelato flavors, shaved ice, Thai custard toast, and signature drinks reminiscent to the flavors of the region,
"Kanomwaan feels like it was plucked out of Siam Square in Bangkok and placed in LA. It has all the things you’d want in a trendy Bangkok dessert cafe: fluffy shaved ice topped with salty egg cream, buttery brick toast ladled with pandan custard, and a selection of ice cream that is unabashedly Thai. You’ll find well-loved Thai classics here, like durian sticky rice and butterfly pea flower. My favorite flavor is the candle-smoked ice cream with salted egg yolk, which strikes a playful balance between salty and sweet and tastes nostalgic to me thanks to the use of tian op, or Thai perfume candle." - Kat Thompson
"Kanomwaan is a dessert cafe in Thai Town just two doors down from its sister restaurant Ruen Pair. It’s perfect for something sweet after dinner, namely the biggest sweet on the menu: giant shaved ice sundaes topped with their custardy Thai gelato. These ice piles easily feed three and come in flavors like mango sticky rice, coconut-y bua loy, and our favorite, Thai tea. The milky tea ice isn’t too sweet, but if you prefer a more indulgent dessert, you can always add on crumbled Oreos and drizzles of condensed milk. Even as the nutty pandan gelato on top melts all over the sundae, it still registers as a light, refreshing treat (or at least that’s what we tell ourselves)." - kat hong, garrett snyder, arden shore, sylvio martins
"This Thai dessert shop by the Ruen Pair folks serves a few different sundae riffs, and none of them disappoint. That’s mostly because each comes with Kanomwaan’s custardy Thai gelato, which is as delicious as it sounds. When we say custardy, we mean rich and luscious, with that full-fat texture that coats your entire mouth. The most Thai thing about these scoops are the flavors, like mango sticky rice, vanilla-y pandan, coconut milk with butterfly pea, and smoked salted egg that tastes like the sweet smell of blown-out birthday candles. The basic cup is a two-scoop minimum, but we have no complaints." - brant cox, nikko duren, sylvio martins, jess basser sanders
"Opened by Ruen Pair in the same strip mall as Bhan Kanom Thai." - Eater Staff
"Kanomwaan, a dessert destination by Champ Jansaeng and his wife Chanita Maneekarn, offers traditional Thai desserts in new formats like gelato and shaved ice. Their menu features gelati with Thai ingredients, dairy-free sorbets, shaved ice creations, and custard toasts, all made without artificial colors or flavors. The drinks menu sticks closer to tradition, focusing on oliang or Thai coffee." - Cathy Chaplin
