Best Filipino Restaurants in Austin | Eater Austin

"Born from the beloved Hao-Q Chinese takeout concept, this Filipino cafe carries on the former restaurant’s legacy by offering a combination of Chinese-American classics and Filipino dishes. Diners can enjoy Kung Po Surf and Turf (stir-fried beef and shrimp), alongside a Filipino menu representing the greater Kapampangan cuisine with dishes like beef kare-kare; braised beef soup with eggplant, string beans, and napa cabbage; and tokwa’t baboy with deep-fried pork belly and tofu served with a vinegar-onion sauce. For a blend of the old Hao-Q and new Kapatad, start with the egg drop soup from Hao-Q’s former menu. Then, dive into Kapatad’s beef caldereta, a tomato-based stew made of tender beef and vegetables, and pair it with an order of the crispy lumpia (egg rolls). Settle in at one of Kapatad’s tables or order to go and binge on a mix of two powerhouse cuisines. Don’t forget to grab a slice of leche flan — a creamier, heavier version of the Spanish dessert that offers a sweet note to end on." - Clara Wang

We went here for lunch because it was recommended. Upon entering, they asked if we had reservations. I told them no. They were able to seat us right away. We ordered from both their menu and daily specials. All the food was so delicious. The halo halo was served in a plastic tub and could be shared with at least 2 people. The only gripe I have is that they charged a lot for extra rice. The staff was friendly and accommodating. I would prefer ordering takeout so I won’t get charged for extra rice.

Google
amazing food and service, everyone was very attentive and kind. I appreciated their offer for recommendations and photos they had available of the dishes. I loved the Adobo! felt like a home cooked meal 😊

I am Filipino, and I brought my non Filipino friends to this restaurant to show them my cultural foods. Their first exposure to filipino food was fantastic. They loved the ambience, service, and most of all food. We will definitely be coming back for the sisig and halo halo!!

We ordered lunch via Postmates, and delivery took about 30–40 minutes. Pork Belly Slabs/Lechon Kawali with Fried Rice ($18.75): The pork belly was over-fried, leaving it dry and lacking the juiciness from the fat. It tasted lean and definitely needed the accompanying sauce. The fried rice was an interesting yellow color, light in texture, and had very subtle flavors. It came with two scoops of rice. Sizzling Pork Sisig with Egg, Level 3 Spice, with Fried Rice ($15.50): Despite ordering level 3 spice, it wasn’t spicy at all. The pork sisig had a strong lime flavor, making it taste more like a Mexican fusion dish. The dish had a variety of textures, came with one scoop of rice, and had a generous portion of pork sisig. While it tasted good overall, I wouldn’t order it again.

One of the best Filipino restaurant in town of Austin. The owner and the service staff were very friendly and helpful. I ordered Pork Sizzling and Bicol Express. It’s taste like home and of course i tried their Halo-halo its perfectly for the hit weather of Texas. Homemade Ube ice cream. Overall i had an amazingly delicious meal experience in KAPATAD. If you’re visiting in Austin or you’re local please don’t hesitate to stop by and experience the authentic Filipino cuisine.

Kapatad Kitchen is my favorite Filipino restaurant in Austin! Their authentic Kapampangan (Pampanga is the culinary capital of the Philippines) cooking brings rich, bold flavors that feel like a true taste of home. It’s my go-to spot when I’m craving their flavorful Kare Kare or perfectly crispy and tender Crispy Pata. They also serve delicious Chinese dishes, offering a variety of options to satisfy any craving. The owner is incredibly friendly and hands-on, making every visit feel warm and welcoming. If you’re looking for authentic Filipino cuisine with a touch of Chinese flair, Kapatad Kitchen is the place to be!

Got simple dishes, but they are very good. Can't say if they are authentic, because those are very simple dishes.

We have been here a few times and we have ordered a few times for takeout as well. I don’t think you’ll ever meet a nicer and more attentive staff in Austin, and the food speaks for itself. Everything is always fresh and delicious and the prices are about what you would expect. This place wowed us over on our first visit and continues to do so each time we visit. Highly recommended!

Yelp
KAPATAD Kitchen and Cafe is a hidden culinary gem that seamlessly blends Filipino and Chinese flavors into a delightful dining experience. Located in [insert location], this restaurant has become a favorite spot for me and my friends and family, offering not only authentic food but also great vibes. The ambiance at KAPATAD is inviting and cozy, perfect for gatherings with loved ones. Whether you're celebrating a special occasion or simply enjoying a meal together, the atmosphere enhances the dining experience. Now, let's talk about the food. KAPATAD excels in showcasing the best of both Filipino and Chinese cuisines. One dish that stands out vividly in my memory is their tripe dish. Expertly prepared and bursting with flavor, the tripe was tender yet had a satisfying chewiness that paired perfectly with the rich sauce and aromatic spices. It's a testament to the kitchen's skill in handling traditional ingredients with finesse. Beyond the tripe, every dish at KAPATAD reflects a commitment to authenticity and quality. From Filipino classics like adobo and sinigang to Chinese favorites like dim sum and stir-fries, each plate is crafted with care and attention to detail. The service at KAPATAD is exemplary. The staff are warm, welcoming, and knowledgeable about the menu. They are always ready to offer recommendations and ensure that every visit is memorable. In conclusion, KAPATAD Kitchen and Cafe is more than just a restaurant--it's an experience. Whether you're craving a taste of home-cooked Filipino dishes or exploring the flavors of Chinese cuisine, KAPATAD delivers with its exceptional food, inviting atmosphere, and top-notch service. Highly recommended for anyone looking to savor authentic flavors in a cozy and friendly setting.

Yelp
When I lived in Chicago, my go to places were Uncle Mike's, Kasama, and Ruby's Fast Food (IYKYK, seriously). When I heard about Kapatad, I was a little skeptical because I've never been a Filipin/Chinese restaurant. I also didn't see any Filipino breakfast options on their menu, so I was a little sad. However, everyone on Yelp was raving about it so I had to try it for myself. Let me just say that I do not regret coming to this place at all. As soon as we stopped through the doors, we were immediately greeted by a friendly host, and we were promptly seated. My part of 2 ordered Lumpiang Shanghai (6 pieces and it came with rice), sizzling pork sisig, and beef kare kare. A small side of shrimp paste came with the beef kare kare. It was salty, but it balanced the hearty flavor of the beef kare kare. They also gave us the option to pick white rice, fried rice, or brown rice, and we chose fried rice. Their vegetable fried rice had garlic in it and it was delicious and unique. This Filipino fried rice is not like your typical Chinese fried rice. We wanted to their buko pandan but it was sold out. That's okay though, this gives us another reason to come back! If you're in the mood for authentic Filipino food, you gotta come to Kapatad Kitchen! You will not be disappointed. Side note; You can save some $ if you pay in cash, or you can pay by card through the QR code or in person.

Yelp
Restaurant is located in a small strip mall and across a soccer field. They offer Pampanga and Chinese cuisine. Pampanga is a region in the Philippines known for their food. We arrived mid-afternoon and was not crowded. The walls were decorated with with a lot interesting things to read and enjoy. We ordered the sisig (chopped pork on hot plate), crispy pata (fried pork leg) and beef caledareta (stewed beef). Sisig has a kick in a good way. Same for the beef caledareta. Both were very tasty and beef was very tender. Pork hock had crispy skin and not too much fat. Just the way I like it. Another dish they are well known for is Beef Kare Kare. Unfortunately, they ran out when we got there. Have to try it next time we go back. Heard from a friend this is one of the few sit down Filipino restaurant in the Austin area. Definitely worth going back for.

Yelp
I got the beef Kare Kare, and the meat is very tender. The sauce tasted like a peanut sauce. It was slightly sweet. The bok choy and eggplants tasted really good in it. It came with rice and a good amount of beef in it. The first time I went here, they ran out quite of their food menu like halo halo, the fried pork and salted shrimp. I did came at dinner time, but it wasn't that late. Just something to be aware of.

Yelp
This was my first time visiting this place. It specializes in Philapino and Chinese Cuisine. The restaurant is small but still large enough for several families. It is clean and has nice seating. It is sort of classy in its own way. A nice place to take a date. It's quiet inside and relaxing. There is outdoor seating as well. The servers leave glass water bottles on the table. There are empty dishes as well so you can order main courses and share. We ordered the lumpia as an appetizer. The Philapino Lumpia is always delicious, and it was also just as delicious here as well. For our main dishes, we had the Pork Sisig that is served on a hot plate, thus sizzling. We also had the pancit, noodles, and veggies. Then we shared between 2 of us. There was enough food left over for another whole meal to take home. Everything was delicious, and the service was excellent, too. I enjoyed my meal and will return. Thank you, Kapatad, for providing another choice to dine in Austin.

Yelp
The location of this place is weird. Small and smelly. Waiter are rude! Food... Nothing special yet very pricey for what it is.

Yelp
The only FIlipino restaurant I trust in Austin. Their name Kapatad is derived from the Tagalog word "kapatid" meaning "sibling" and their food certainly makes me think of family when I'm feeling homesick. Whether I'm ordering takeout or dining in, I know the food will be delicious and comforting. My regular rotation consists of: Lechon Kawali (5/5) - Perfectly crispy and consistently has the right meat-to-fat ratio. Not sure if their Mang Tomas sauce is homemade, the texture is slightly thinner but tastes better! Kare Kare (4/5) - Richly flavored, easier, and better than making it myself. The included bagoong is not my favorite, but I always use my own at home. Pieces of meat aren't the most tender and the dish itself could use more veggies, but I can forgive them since the price point is good. Sago Drink (5/5) - Instant nostalgia of my childhood. Sizzling Pork BBQ (3/5) - May be a bit too sweet for most people's palates and doesn't come on the traditional skewer, so better paired with steamed rice rather than fried rice to balance it out. Lumpia (3/5) - Shaped long and thin, which is different from what I'm used to, but my fiancé loves them! Note: I've never tried their Chinese food, nor do I plan to. They have their own mobile phone app, which I use to place pickup orders ahead of time so they receive 100% of my business rather than having to pay a portion to Grubhub or other delivery services. Sometimes, they'll even email me 15-20% off coupon codes!

Yelp
Kapatad, a Filipino culinary gem nestled in the heart of Austin, is a revelation for the taste buds, a delightful journey through the rich and vibrant flavors of the Philippines. This restaurant doesn't just serve food; it serves a home grown experience, a cultural immersion that tantalizes the senses. Let's start with the Lumpia. Oh, the Lumpia! These aren't just any spring rolls; these are little parcels of joy. Each bite is a crunch-fest, a symphony in your mouth. The golden-brown wrappers are fried to perfection, encasing a blend of seasoned meat and vegetables that are so harmoniously balanced, you'll wonder if they've been singing together for ages. Dip them in the sweet chili sauce provided, and it's like a crescendo in a symphony - absolutely mind-blowing! Moving on to the Pork BBQ. This isn't your typical backyard barbecue fare. Imagine pork skewers marinated in a concoction that's both sweet and savory, grilled to a charred perfection. Each skewer is a testament to the art of Filipino grilling - slightly smoky, wonderfully caramelized, and so tender that the meat almost whispers its farewell as it melts in your mouth. This dish is a celebration, a festival on a plate. Kapatad is more than just a dining destination; it's a vibrant, flavor-packed journey through the Philippines. Each dish is a testament to the rich culinary heritage of the country, and a reminder of how food can be a powerful, delicious bridge between cultures. So, if you're in Austin and looking to tantalize your taste buds with something truly special, Kapatad is the place to be. Bon appétit, or as they say in the Philippines, "Kain na!"

Yelp
Oh Em Gee! Authentic Filipino!!! They are tucked away in the back of far west owned by the nicest family I have ever met! Ya know how the saying goes, "if Asians go to the restaurant then it must be good."Well it is true here. I've seen Filipinos in this restaurant and the food will NOT disappoint all the way down to the dessert. They also specialize in Chinese. So if you're too "afraid" to go outside your comfort zone. There is food here that everyone will enjoy I love lunching here because of the fact that it's tucked away, I could get in and out so quickly!!!

Yelp
Really missed the chicken pancit bihon so I had to indulge again instead of trying something new (shame on me). But, it's so good, so tasty and a generous portion and friendly on the lunch wallet. I love how the flavors come together with a little bit of spice. Kapatad really does a good job of making interesting and scrumptious lunch and dinner delights. Now to promise that I will try something new next time!

Yelp
Amazing service! Cute little place. Jasper was a helpful server. All the staff were. I'm so excited that I found this place. I'm not in love with the hours during the week but on Saturday they are open all day. The pancit bihon was great with tons of veggies. A tad salty. But I loved it! Lumpiang was so darn tasty. We tried the chicken skin appetizer and it was surprisingly tasty. It had a nice dip.
google avatar

Yelp
Small restaurant in far west. A mixture of Filipino and Chinese food. Service was nice and fast. The Pancit was good tons of flavor. The Lechon has a nice mixture of meat to fat ratio and it came with a side of rice (steam or fried) Overall a good spot for Filipino food if you are in the area.

Yelp
Authentic Filipino food in Austin? I thought that didn't exist! This place is definitely family run and super homey. The menu is full of your filipino classics! Great service and food overall. I got the Pancit Bihon with shrimp. It was delicious! Super flavorful and a huge portion! Would definitely come back and recommend.

Yelp
You know it's gonna be good when it's fully crowded at lunchtime and most of the customers are Filipino. We started with pineapple ice, which had pineapple juice, crushed ice, and strawberry syrup. Tasty! I ordered the Crispy Pata which was delicious! Normally it comes out whole but we asked for it chopped. The dishes are good portions so you can eat it family-style. Then we finished with the Halo Halo (seems like they run out quickly) It was delicious, but I will note that it was a little different than other places I've had it before (I'm used to it with more beans and jellies). Parking is in a strip mall so shouldn't be too much of an issue. Highly recommend :)

Yelp
I have been wanting to try this eatery for a while now. I was curious how well they could pull off Chinese and Filipino dishes (also Vietnamese Vermicelli Bowls). So, we ordered a few of each type of cuisine. Verdict: The Filipino is very good! The Chinese and Vietnamese dishes are just okay. These dishes lack the taste profile depth that you will find at a specific Chinese or Vietnamese restaurants. I applaud their attempt to deliver so many types of cuisine, but for the generic dishes we tried , I don't believe they pulled off all of the dishes. Everything, but the Filipino dish was pretty bland. That said, the portions are large, the staff is very friendly and the Filipino food is great. That is why I give 4 stars. I highly recommend this restaurant for Filipino dishes only.
google avatar

Katlyn P.

Yelp
This is the best Filipino restaurant in Austin! Everything was delicious and was recommended here by a friend! We got to sit right in the front and service was good. The strawberry pineapple slush was bomb! So flavorful and I could drink that all day. All the food was fresh and piping hot! I was so in love with the lumpia and everything was so delicious! The leche flan was flavorful and loved it all! The whole restaurant is a fun vibe. I can't wait to come back and try more!

Yelp
Ate here several times already although I am not living in Austin. Place is clean, the owner is very attentive. I only tried the Filipino food and it is made very well. They have expanded their menu and have many specials that change. The crispy pata meat is tender and the skin crispy. The meat in the kare-kare is tender and the vegetables not overcooked. The lumpia is crunchy. The specials we tried are the pancit palabok, bulalo, dinuguan, sizzling pork bbq, kikiam. The food has always been consistently good and the pricing is fair for the quality. They seem to be getting busier for dine in and popular for take out as well. Kudos! I will definitely be back.

Michea C.

Yelp
Nice little spot. The food was delish! Tried out a few Filipino spots in Austin but this place was by far the best! Service was great and food was fresh hot and came out pretty quickly. We ordered the lumpia, sisig, jalapeño chicken and halo halo. Very satisfied with everything. We will be returning for more!
google avatar

Brian C.

Yelp
This is my kind of place. Great food, representing a unique cuisine, at reasonable prices. We only had room in our party of two to try two things, the beef kare-kare (tender beef, eggplant, and savory peanut sauce) and crispy pata (succulent pork shank with crispy skin.) Both were fantastic. I washed it all down with their pineapple drink, which was refreshing and not too sweet. I left wondering how awesome the sisig must be. Dessert also looked tempting. Guess I'll have to come back and see! Service was helpful and informative. The restaurant is clean and decorated with the history of the Philippines.

Yelp
I'm very particular with my homes food & this place exceeded expectations. My husband and I are very pleased with their food. Taste just like home. I wept in tears tasting their dinuguan cause it's a dish that has failed me many times before. But here it taste just like how I remember my grandma made it. Sisig was delicious as well. Halo halo for dessert, always.
google avatar

Chelsea L.

Yelp
We got a large table (can squeeze for 12 people) comfortably sits 10. My Filipino friend ordered for us and we got a multitude of dishes that consisted of noodles, pork, beef, tofu, green beans, etc. Each dish has a little bit of spice, but not extremely spicy. It's good to order white rice to balance the tastes.
google avatar

Justina L.

Yelp
Attentive staff and owner. My kids absolutely love the food! Different variety of Filipino dishes. I love that the vibe reminds me of when you come from school, there's karaoke music in the background .
google avatar

Yelp
Both the traditional stew and the less traditional sesame chicken were very high quality. Recommend for sure.

Yelp
I haven't been to many Filipino restaurants, but Kapatad is one of my favorites. We ordered: Combo Pancit Bihon - a classic dish! It was really well seasoned and had a good amount of meat. Pork Sisig - This dish was a favorite for most of my friends so I definitely recommend. Especially with the lime on top, it really brings the dish to a new level! Tokwa't Baboy - Basically just fried tofu and pork, this dish was so good! The pork retains a lot of its fat so it isn't dry or hard. And it comes with a vinegary sauce that helps cut through all the grease. Beef Kare Kare - If you're a big peanut butter fan, you will love this dish! It's pretty strong but it's also very rich and deep. It comes with a shrimp paste that only enhances that and is great on top of rice. Pork Adobo - This is the dish that was my personal favorite. Honestly, the meat could have been a little bit more tender but I didn't really care because that sauce is addicting. Buko Pandan - not only is it super eye catching, but this dessert is pretty good!! Personally it was a bit too sweet for me, I think one cup is good for three people. But the pandan flavor is so strong and delicious. If you have a sweet tooth, this is for you!

Yelp
My golfing buddy's doctor recommended he try this place out. My buddy and I then set out from San Marcos with another friend to try this place after reading positive reviews. Blessed with two Filipino parents who are/were very good cooks (may dad rest in peace), I have a pretty high bar set for judging Filipino restaurants. I read that the owners of this place hail from Pampanga, the purported culinary capital of the Philippines so that was encouraging. We set out for lunch on a Friday and the place wasn't too busy. The reviews had glowing remarks for the pork sisig and the beef kare kare as well as their crispy pata and lechon kawali. I had my golfing friends over for dinner before and cooked chicken adobo, beef kaldereta and Filipino pork barbeque for them (they loved the pork BBQ and beef kaldereta), so I wanted them to try something different. We ordered lumpias as appetizers and for entrees, we ordered pork sisig, beef kare kare and pancit. Rice (we chose steamed rice) was served with our meal. The lumpias were good...decent flavor served in 6 pieces with a sweet dipping sauce. Would've preferred something like a sweet chili sauce instead, however. The sisig (ordered egg with it) was served on a sizzling plate...and lime wedges instead of calamansi which was disappointing. Nevertheless, I was eager to try it. It tasted fine but it didn't quite match the taste and eye-raising flavor I remember when I first tried sisig in Pampanga when I was there as part of a US Army contingent for the multi-national military exercise known as Balikatan, over a decade ago. The beef kare kare had a surprisingly good flavor. My mom cooks good kare kare that I typically don't eat, but ordered it so my friends can sample something different. About the only thing I didn't like about it was the cut of beef...it was brisket and thought it was a bit gristly. I understand that, traditionally, it's prepared with ox tail but I would've preferred a better cut of meat. The pancit was prepared very well, well seasoned but not salty...although once again, it was served with lime wedges instead of calamansi. To top our meal off, I ordered halo halo which everyone loved! Entree portions were quite generous and we even had some leftovers for my friend to take home and share with his wife. All in all, a good impression, with my sisig experience notwithstanding. Perhaps for our next visit we'll try the crispy pata or lechon kawali...and perhaps they'll be able to source some calamansi for a more authentic Filipino flavor. Lunch for three came out to just over $92 not including tip.

Samantha E.

Yelp
We visited here on a Friday evening and were immediately greeted and seated by the friendly host. The place was about half full. The menu has both Filipino and Chinese options, as well as basic beer and wine choices. We ordered lumpiang shanghai, lechon kawali, beef kaldereta, plain and fried rice, and a side of plain lo mein for our daughter. I was slightly disappointed that they didn't have siapao, but the portions were so big it was probably best that we didn't order anything else. Everything came pretty quickly and piping hot. Honestly, it's hard to pick a favorite, because all the dishes were delicious. I will say that the beef kaldereta had a pleasant heat to it, and the crunch in the lechon was perfect. My husband and daughter love halo-halo, but I'm not a huge fan, so I didn't expect to try any when we ordered one to finish the meal. But it was so huge that I decided to help out and I really enjoyed it! Servers were attentive, parking plentiful, and the bathrooms were clean. If we ever come back in town, we'd probably swing by Kapatad again.

Yelp
I ordered from here for the first time and can't wait to go back! I ordered the Vermicelli noodles with chicken with level 2 spice and it was delicious. The portion was quite a bit. I could have easily shared it. As soon as I walked in it immediately felt cozy and welcoming and the staff was very friendly.

Yelp
If you want to check out some genuine Filipino cuisine in the Austin area, I highly recommend you try Kapatad. In Tagalog (the language of the Philippines), the word Kapatad means siblings and this family-owned restaurant makes you feel just like that, as if you're gathering for a meal amongst loved ones. Their shrimp Pancit Bihon is so good. I also recommend their Leche Flan for dessert. My husband enjoys their Beef Caldereta with steamed rice. You can also order online from their website and get 20% off by using the code "local."
google avatar

Charli V.

Yelp
Wanted to show my MIL the diversity on Austin so we went to Kapatad! Shes Filipino and cooks often so she knows the flavors well. The staff was friendly and welcoming. They knew the menu well and made many suggestions. We ordered sisig, lechon kawali, crispy chicken, and a hot and sour soup to share. The soup was a bit too vinegary that we couldn't really eat it. The sisig and crispy came out sizzling on a hot plate. They were both prepared very well and delicious to eat. The lechon Kawali was tasty and the perfect amount of crispness and softness but more than 60% was all fat pieces so was difficult to finish. Overall we really did enjoy our meal and took the leftovers home to have as a second meal, Minus the soup. The sisig and lechon was even good the second day!

K R.

Yelp
Called ahead on Mother's Day to make sure it wasn't too busy and we'd get a table. Was assured it was the perfect time to go. Showed up and did get a table but then was ignored for 30 min. No one to take our order. We ended up leaving after watching everyone around us eat for half an hour. Also, the Filipino menu seems shorter than last time. Will not be back.

Gillynn C.

Yelp
Food service is excellent. They made sure you were taken care of. The food was great. I had the kare kare and the meat was so tender and the veggies were very fresh. The sauce was seasoned perfectly and I love that they sautéed the banging first. I ordered the special halo halo and the Ube ice cream and ham were plentiful. They only used the best ingredients and no cheap stuff. Glad I found this place in Austin

Nasiah R.

Yelp
This is a pretty decent restaurant. This was my first time going to a Filipino restaurant and I'm glad I gave it a try. The lumpia was really good! The lumpia was hot, fresh, and delicious. I was tempted to order another one. I ordered the Sizzling BBQ Chicken at our server's suggestion. I was very disappointed with the BBQ Chicken. The BBQ Chicken was incredibly bland. It had no flavor and I didn't enjoy eating it at all. Normally, I'm not one to complain to servers if I don't like my food but I disliked the BBQ Chicken so much that I couldn't eat it. Fortunately, the team was kind enough to make things right when I was unhappy with my food. I tried the chicken pancit. The pancit was much better and tasted great when paired with chili oil. I also ate some lechon kawaii that someone from my group ordered. The lechon kawaii was amazing!!! It was crispy, flavorful, and pipping hot. The lechon was good to perfection and clearly made with love. I highly recommend the lechon kawaii and the lumpiang Shanghai.

Yelp
"Exceptional dining experience. From the warm hospitality to the delectable Filipino dishes, every aspect exceeded expectations. Ambiance and service were top-notch. A must-visit for anyone craving authentic Filipino cuisine!"

Yelp
There's not too many Filipino options here in Austin so I was really excited to try this place. From the outside it looks unassuming but the inside decor is warm and inciting. Everything one wants from an authentic Asian restaurant! The service was okay. They were friendly enough but maybe because they were busy with other tables, they were not too attentive and I had to chase them down a couple of times. Still, the interactions we did have with them were fine and everyone was really nice and enthusiastic. Regarding the food, we had the lechon and the beef Kare Kare. The lechon was amazing and it was served with an excellent sauce that made it incredible. I would suggest getting it as part of a family style entree as opposed to an individual entree as the portion is quite large. The beef kare kare was good and had a very strong peanut flavor which is what you'd expect and want from the dish. It came with a shrimp paste sauce which added some needed salt to the dish. Overall, this was a really good restaurant. Would definitely come back at some point to try other dishes but I can't imagine going back and not getting the lechon for the table.

Yelp
First of all the staff were very kind and welcoming as we walked in. They had specials today on their chalk board, the staff moved it closer to us so that we could see it without straining our necks. Secondly, we ordered the Beef Kare Kare and Crispy Pata that were delicious and very authentic. Beef Kare Kare: There is a strong peanut sauce flavor and veggies were fresh. Crispy Pata: this was my favorite since the skin was nice and crispy but not burnt! Meat inside was very tender and the dipping sauce was light, spicy, and acidic. Perfectly paired with the pork. The interior is a very ambient environment. A very welcoming restaurant that I would recommend again

Yelp
We LOVE this restaurant. Although we are regulars now, we've always felt welcome from the first time. We love the hospitality and the food! A must have dish is the sig sig and pork belly! All the other dishes we've had were good too! Food tastes fresh, made to order and deliciously consistent, never a disappointment! I am so happy we have this in Austin!

Yelp
My first time trying Filipino food! I got the pancit bihon with shrimp. The dish consists of vermicelli noodles and vegetables (carrots, red pepper, snow peas, cabbage) with a spicy soy sauce. You can choose the level of spice between 1-3, and I thought level 2 was a manageable amount of spice while still bringing in loads of flavor. If you're craving a noodle dish, pancit bihon is a solid option. My partner got the beef kare-kare, which is a beef stew with eggplant, string beans, and baby bok choy in a peanut sauce. It's kind of like a Filipino curry. It comes with a side of rice or noodles. It's also served with a side of bagoong (fermented fish/shrimp paste). The beef was very soft, but we both preferred the taste of the pancit bihon. The kare-kare and especially the bagoong are an acquired taste.

Yelp
Kapatad Kitchen and Cafe was amazingly delicious Filipino food - their Lechon Kawali was on point and I really enjoyed the spicy green beans! In addition, the staff were so warm and welcoming and friendly - I felt instantly at home and can't wait to return and continue to work my way through the menu!

Yelp
We had lunch here on a Thursday. Although we got here 35 minutes before closing, as soon as we walked in, they locked the door. Lunch definitely felt rushed. As soon as our server came to the table, he told us about closing in 30 minutes and they needed our order. Maybe they should change their hours? The food was good. The adobo was a little salty to our taste and the pancit didn't appear freshly made because of the way it was "clumpy" but the lumpia and lechon had very good flavor. We would recommend this restaurant if you are craving true filipino food but come early so you aren't rushed.

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic food! The Sisig was the best I've ever had! Definitely will be back and I would recommend this restaurant to everyone!

Yelp
Love the family style meals and portions. Feels like the Filipino cooking I grew up with. I love the variety of their menu. Highly recommend the sisig and tokwat baboy, but I haven't had anything that disappointed either! Great place to go!

Yelp
I am Filipino and have been on the hunt for Filipino food in Austin! Their chicken bbq is hands down the best Filipino dish i've tried from a restaurant in a looooong time. Flavorful, tender and grilled to perfection. Serving size is so generous too! 10/10 for this place! Can't wait to try more dishes!

Yelp
This was our first time here and first time with Filipino food. And Kapatad didn't disappoint! Granted it was the first but definately the best Filipino food we've eaten. :) The good: First the location is super convenient and unassuming. Easy to park and welcoming staff. The service wasn't too aggressive but I'd say enthusiastic. Watching to see if you need something without actually bugging you. Pretty much what you want. Our waiter gave us some great suggestions on what to try and the right spice level. It was spot on. I ended up with the Pancit Bihon which was a Filipino noodle dish with shrimp. Super simple but bursting with flavor. My daughter ordered the Mongolian Beef, she wasn't too adventurous but she loved it. What could be improved: The menu could probably be a little more descriptive for first timers to make a better choice but we took a chance and it worked out. I'm vegetarian and it was easy enough but the menu could probably also use some simple markers for gluten free, nut free etc. The only thing that wasn't awesome was the veggie egg rolls. I wouldn't get those again, sort of a super oily version of something that you'd pull out of your freezer. Overall - definitely a hit. And worth a visit.

Yelp
Can I possibly give KAPATAD 10 stars? Because I 100% would.... A few years ago, I went to the Philippines for work and fell in love with the food. I was so excited when I heard there was a legitimate Filipino restaurant opening in Austin even if it wasn't in my neighborhood. My boyfriend, his mom, and I came here for a late lunch one weekend. I ordered the Beef Kare Kare (something I remembered loving during my work trip). It was everything I had remembered. The peanut flavor matched with the tender beef so nicely. They even served it the traditional way with a side of salty, savory shrimp paste. Yum!! My boyfriend's mom isn't a terribly adventurous eater so she got the Beef and Shrimp off of the Chinese menu. It was actually really special and delicious. It came with a sizzling mushroom oyster sauce which really made the dish. Finally, my boyfriend got the Crispy Pata. This is a monster pork knuckle that's been slow roasted for hours then deep fried at the end to make it nice and crispy on the outside. It's served with some kind of soy based sauce of ultimate flavor. This dish really stole the show and I couldn't recommend it more. Outside of the food, the restaurant is cozy with a hole-in-the-wall feel. The staff was super friendly and attentive during our entire meal. We literally cannot wait to come back and try more great Filipino food from KAPATAD.

Yelp
I'm not one for eating out for Filipino food, but KAPATAD came highly recommended. For four people we ordered and ate family style the following: - Lumpia - not my favorite here, but very crispy - Pork Adobo - decent flavor but the dish was small - Crispy Pata - super crispy and delicious if you love fried pork - Pancit Bihon - highly recommend! I was really impressed with the flavor - Buko Pandan - don't be alarmed by the very green color. The pandan flavors are out of this world. Overall, this family owned business is a great spot for Filipino food in Austin. I did feel like I was at home with my family eating a comforting meal!

Yelp
I appreciate the sit down, fresh made to order format as opposed to the typical premade set items. The restaurant remains well kept, and the food mostly well prepared. Diverse menu options and rotating specials will keep you returning to try. The service needs improvement. Most of visits always encounters some issue with my order. All the employees are kind, just need some operational improvements.

Yelp
Kapatad meaning "sibling" certainly lives up to the name, in that you feel like you're in for a home cooked meal complete with that small family local vibe. You don't have to know much about Filipino cuisine (not many found in austin), simply come hungry and ready to eat. Atmosphere: As stated above, think family local vibe. Small, but clean. Not a very fancy or hip vibe, but a welcoming one for sure. Food: I've ordered here twice, once take out and another actually sitting in. Both times did not disappoint. I would say if I could choose something to continuously feast on I'd recommend the Crispy Pata. Roasted pork, with that good crunchy skin...mmmhmmm! Perfect for any pork lover and/or those whom are very hungry. Other notable foods are the crispy chicken and the lechon kawali. The crispy chicken had great texture and a great subtle taste to boot. Lechon kawali is great for more pork lovers...pork belly anyone? Pork belly and rice, can't beat that combination. Service: Friendly family service, as of this writing the staff is a little short due to the pandemic, but regardless the staff is friendly and will attend to you as soon as they can and/or if asked. Even with the short staff I thought they did an excellent job of attending all parties including my own. Come hungry, leave happy. Nothing quite like the cuisine you'll find here at Kapatad. Sometimes you just need those foods that make you feel good after a hard days/weeks worth of work.

Yelp
YES! Finally ...authentic Filipino food in Austin that reminds me of my mom and dads cooking! My husband and I moved to Austin 3.5 yrs ago and we've been disappointed with most of the Filipino "fusion" food we've had in the Austin area. After hearing about Kapatad and reading the reviews, we couldn't wait to try their food. Everything we had was great and their Beef Kare-Kare was one of the best I've had my entire life! We will definitely be coming back very soon!
