"Kartuli could easily be the home of a bohemian author. One with a vintage gramophone and a panduri—a Georgian string instrument—hanging from the wall, waiting to be strummed after everyone has sunk a few bottles of wine from the heaving shelves. It’s all very cool in a way that makes you want to take a European holiday, day drink, laugh loudly, and talk about art. East Dulwich locals pour in every night of the week, pulling up chairs beneath hanging foliage and settling in for long, lingering meals. The Georgian food is excellent and this combination has never let us down: tashmijabi to start, megruli kharcho for mains, and chvishtari for some extra carbs that aren’t necessary but are delightful. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Food Rundown photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Tashmijabi Potato, milk, and cheese come together here in one beige-carb-comforting trio to create a gooey, fondue-like pot in which you dip shoti bread. It’s as fun and soothing as it sounds. We like the slightly spicy, herby green ajika sauce that’s swirled on top—it does wonders to stop dairy fatigue from setting in. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Megruli Kharcho The beef gets the memo here—dutifully falling apart so that you barely have to chew it. But the stew is the real star. It’s creamy and glossy, with warming spices and a satisfying, thick consistency that coats all the meat. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Mushroom Khinkali These mushroom khinkali are some of the best we’ve had, and we’d choose them over the meat ones. The dumplings themselves are delicately pleated and not too thick. The mushrooms aren’t soggy at all and they’ve been cut so finely that they become more of a compact, meat-like filling. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Chvishtari It’s cornbread with cheese, but in the same way that a puppy is just an animal. Really it’s a close-textured, puck-shaped patty of goodness and comfort. It’s solid enough to dunk into stew without falling apart, and we like the sweet-salty balance. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Honey Cake This honey cake is tasty, in the way that caramel cream and drizzles of dark chocolate are always going to be good. But we do find the sponge layers to be a bit dry." - Sinéad Cranna

Very cosy and tasty, friendly staff and good service. We ordered a pork mtsvadi and a chicken mtsvadi, the aroma is incredible, the taste is too, sause is amazing! The chicken was a more juicier than the pork, but everything was delicious. The portions are quite large. Thank you for your hospitality.

This is probably the best restaurante experience I had in London in the 6 years I have lived here. I cannot think of a more authentic place, truly family owned, run by an adorable couple. Delicious food and wines

I recently had the pleasure of dining at Kartuli, a delightful Georgian restaurant that exceeded all expectations. As soon as I walked in, the warm, inviting ambiance made me feel right at home. The decor, with its traditional ornaments gave the place a cozy, rustic charm that perfectly complements the flavors of the food. The menu offers a wide variety of classic Georgian dishes, and it was tough to choose just a few! We had khachapuri, the famous Georgian cheese-filled bread. Every bite was pure comfort. For the main course, we shashlik, skewered and grilled to perfection, with tender, juicy meat that was marinated in aromatic herbs and spices and famous Khinkali (big dumplings filled with amazing broth). Paired with a side of pkhali, a traditional spinach and walnut salad, it was a meal to remember. One of the highlights of the evening was the wine list, which offered a selection of Georgian wines that are hard to find elsewhere. The Saperavi red wine, rich with deep berry flavors, complemented the meal beautifully. For dessert we had Pelamushi and honey cake. It was absolutely amazing like my grandmothers. On top of that you can find absolutely fabulous handmade jewellery which you can purchase at the restaurant. The service was impeccable—attentive but not overbearing, and the staff were eager to share their knowledge of Georgian cuisine and its rich history. If you're looking for a dining experience that combines great food, a welcoming atmosphere, and an introduction to Georgian culture, Kartuli is a must-visit. As a Georgian i would say this was the best Georgian restaurant i have visited in London. I can't wait to return and explore more of their menu.

We had an amazing dinner at this restaurant last night. We tried the aubergine rolls, khachapuri, and honey cake—all absolutely delicious. The khinkali were the highlight, honestly the best we’ve had in London. The Saperavi wine was great, and the atmosphere and interior were just perfect. To finish, we had some chacha and Ukrainian vodka, which was a great way to round off the evening. It was also a lovely surprise to get a complimentary chacha from the restaurant—a really nice touch. Highly recommend this place! We’ll definitely be back.

Words can’t describe how much I love this place! I’ve been 3 times in the past few months and each time it was excellent, and it’s my go-to place to bring friends now. The food is delicious and the staff very helpful and kind. I’d especially recommend the dumplings with soup inside!! The decor adds to the lovely atmosphere. Nice wine and desserts too!

If you are looking for an authentic, heartwarming, and truly exceptional Georgian dining experience, look no further! This restaurant surpasses all expectations, even for those well-versed in Georgian cuisine. The khachapuri here is absolutely out of this world, every variety is a masterpiece. The starters are just as impressive - rich and flavourful. And without exaggeration, the honey cake is the best I have ever tried. Beyond the food, the experience itself is unforgettable. From the moment you walk in, you truly feel like a valued guest. The staff is incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable, always ready to offer the best recommendations with a warm smile. The atmosphere is another highlight—calm, cozy, and beautifully decorated. Soft Georgian music plays in the background, adding an extra layer of authenticity and charm. I highly recommend visiting, indulging in the incredible dishes, and experiencing the warm Georgian hospitality.
