"It might be billed as a wine bar, but Kass feels more like a formal French restaurant than a place for a casual drink. There is a good, French-leaning wine list, and while you could sit at the bar for a couple of glasses, the dining room is a nicer place to sit. Unfortunately, the French food isn’t really worth the visit (or the prices you’re going to pay). The grilled octopus comes out on a mini grill, but doesn’t have much flavor, and the john dory with risotto is also lacking. The best thing on the menu is the tagliatelle with pork ragu, but at $31 for a small bowl, it’s not enough of a reason to come here." - Jess Basser Sanders

"Kass is a charming wine bar and restaurant opened by chef Christophe Émé on La Brea Avenue. The 40-seat venue features a blue-hued dining room with a semi-open kitchen and a long wine bar, alongside a small lounge for waiting guests. The menu includes innovative wine-friendly dishes with classic techniques and a focus on seasonality, such as baby beet salad with black lentils and aged Comté, oxtail parmentier with Burgundy truffles, and chicken cooked in clay with wild mushroom sauce and green asparagus. The wine selection predominantly features French wines, particularly from the Loire Valley." - Matthew Kang

Well executed food and we'll curated wine list. Menu all looked so good it was hard to choose. Chef was very pleasant to us and seemed genuinely happy we came. Staff all very nice. Will definitely be back.

Perfection. Brilliantly conceived and prepared food paired with attentive, unpretentious service from the GM and wait/bar staff. Oh and the wine selections were excellent as well. I’m not easily impressed. I was. Will definitely be back.

This is remarkable, sensuous cooking in a cozy setting. The restaurant is tiny, inviting yet edgy. Chef Eme performs his magic through a large open lookthrough, visible as if each table was the chef's table. And magical the food is. Don't miss the mushroom cream, earthy and delicate and nuanced. Grilled octopus comes on a little brazier, perfectly grilled and accompanied by assertly - spiced dipping sauce and lovely little artichoke, fennel and fingerlings. Lobster ravioli is presented in tiny bowls, perfect for sharing. The pasta is supple and the clean, sweat lobster flavor mixed with the creamy sauce is pure decadence. My husband raved about his pasta. Our friends enjoyed the sashimi, the scallops, and the lamb special - both were delighted. Plating is playful and creative. The wine list, like the menu, is short but well-thought-out, many reasonably priced, interesting choices. Delightful service. What a gem! We'll be back, and back, and back . . .
