The 20 Best Breakfast Tacos In Austin - Austin - The Infatuation

"Popular with locals and generally hungry people, Ken's is best known for their enormous and affordable breakfast tacos. While it can get busy here during peak breakfast hours, it’s an efficiently run operation with multiple cash registers and a kitchen that turns out food fast. We like the migas tacos the best, but we do wish they’d griddle their flour tortillas a bit. Be prepared for a slow-moving Mad Max-style parking lot situation. What to get: Migas; Chorizo, egg, and cheese; Carne guisada" - nicolai mccrary, raphael brion

16 Best Tex-Mex Restaurants In Austin - Austin - The Infatuation

"Known best perhaps for their huge and affordable breakfast tacos, Ken's Subs, Tacos, & More is built for volume, and the food comes out fast and fresh. As the name implies, they do indeed have subs, including a very good Philly cheesesteak. It’s the Tex-Mex side of the menu that we like a lot, including the old-school crispy taco, carne guisada, carnitas, and solidly executed beef enchiladas." - nicolai mccrary, raphael brion

Ken's Subs, Tacos, & More - Review - Windsor Hills - Austin - The Infatuation

"On the corner of Dessau and Rundberg, Ken's Subs, Tacos, & More is a true neighborhood gem that’s been around since 1989, known best perhaps for their huge and affordable breakfast tacos. This place is built for volume—there’s a reason there are four cash registers—and all the food comes out fast and fresh. As the name implies, they do indeed have subs, including a very good Philly cheese steak, but we come here for the tacos, including the old-school crispy tacos with ground beef, lettuce, tomato, and cheddar cheese, all for an astonishing $1.49. The carne guisada, carnitas, and enchiladas are solid bets here, too. photo credit: Raphael Brion" - Raphael Brion

Sad that I have to write this review after years of coming to this establishment. I bought 2 bacon egg and cheese and 2 chorizo and egg. Drove all the way from Georgetown to get home and my girlfriend finds hair in her taco. I called the establishment spoke to Lydia who was very rude and ugly. I asked to speak with the manager she said she is the manager. I explained to her what was going on she advised for me to bring the taco back in order to get credit. I explained to her I live in Georgetown and she said whatever I need to bring the taco back in order to get credit. I explained I’m just gonna go ahead and post a review her response was you can do whatever and hung up on me.

Breakfast Taco Classic—Just Like Old Times! Coming back to Ken’s after more than a decade away, I’m thrilled to say it’s still the same beloved, authentic breakfast taco experience I remember. The huge, overstuffed tacos are just as satisfying—packed with fresh ingredients, perfectly balanced fillings, and that reliable homemade feel. The service was fast and friendly—I’m pretty sure the same great ladies were behind the counter, making tacos with that familiar, caring touch. The atmosphere is low-key and no-frills, but that’s exactly what makes it perfect for a genuine Austin morning bite. If you’re looking for a nostalgic, hearty breakfast taco done right, Ken’s on Dessau is still a top Austin staple—no fuss, just delicious tradition.

One of my Favorite places . I don't know if the eggs are liquid. May be , the bacon is not too much of a good quality but their portions are good. The egg is Seasoned and potatoes cooked well. Their barbacoa is great:) food is good service has always been very nice 👌 they acknowledge me , the atmosphere is ok. . Can be better but. Overall I give them a 5 . I've had much more great experience than less.

Google
We went aoround 10am since we were in the area. Just avoid the bacon. Did not taste like bacon at all. Tasted more like old fried pork meat. My daughter is sensitive to pork and can only handle bacon but this gave her a horrible stomach ache. I felt pretty nauseous after a few bites so had to take it out on both of our tacos.

Google
Place has been around for 35 years nothing but great vibes and good food since I was a young kid coming here with parents for big breakfast tacos . Beef fajitas today were amazing on a Friday lunch !!

Google
This is a simple restaurant offering Mexican and American fare. I had crispy tacos which, at $2.05 each, were a great value. Very tasty too.

Google
Stop by this place in order to try their lunch. I tried their breakfast tacos about 2 years ago. I ordered carne guisado or however you spell it. Lol. It was my first time trying it. Unfortunately, I didn’t like it ☹️ I asked the manager if I can exchange it, she said NO, and ask if I wanted a to go

Google
Got my first timer's regular (sausage, egg & cheese). It was loaded! I could have easily made two tacos out of one. For ~$3, the value is there. While everything was fresh, it just lacked that little seasoning that would take it to the next level. I added their red salsa to it, which was so spicy it completely dominated every other element. This place was jamming at 9:30 on a Friday, so it definitely has a loyal following. For me - like it, don't love it.

Yelp
Omg! Talking about some of the best things that one could ever have! Y'all! We ordered 2 sausage, egg, potatoes and cheese and two bacon one a few days ago! People!! Never a disappointment! They included their signature red and green salsas. Let me tell you, it was delicious! I shed a tear of joy as I ate unladylike. Judge me, I did, too! Ha! I hurt myself and went for a walk. Thank God for workout clothes. Honey, we walked it out. Go try it! (Side note: they do serve other foods. Breakfast is served all day! Why stray from tacos!?!) :)

Yelp
Have been getting tacos from Ken's in the mornings since I was in diapers (late 90s). Amazing service by real austin people with great attitudes throughout the day. Wholesome food with hefty portions. The bean and cheese are too good every time. Parking lot has spots in the front.

Yelp
If you are wanting some breakfast tacos this is the place! The tacos are massive and filled to the brim. Such a good price and the tacos themselves are so yummy. Service was pretty fast but this is a no frills spot, it's all about the food here.
google avatar

Yelp
This restaurant is a reoccurring visit my family and I always make. Their breakfast tacos are the best that I've ever had. I've tried a variety of food overtime from this place, and everything is perfect, so you can't go wrong with anything, in my opinion. The staff is always super friendly, and they work super hard to get everyone's order out at a decent time. Cons: the parking lot is not my favorite. But the food makes up for that. I'll always be back! I definitely recommend it.

Yelp
As a proud Austinite, I've been going to Ken's tacos ever since I was in high school. I enjoyed their giant delicious tacos way back then and now that I've rediscovered them, I am proud to say they are just as tasty as I remember. Fair warning, they are not open on Sundays. I joined a dance group that practices nearby on Sundays so I was always reminded that this place was still there on Rundberg and Dessau/Cameron Road but I needed to remember to make my way back when it was open. That opportunity arose as I was headed back from the airport on 183 after dropping someone off in the wee hours of the morning (i.e. 6 am for me). Faithfully, they were already open so I was able to order my favorite - bacon, egg and cheese. They're giant and also very tasty. If you're like me, you may order two breakfast tacos at Tacodeli but here, you might just only need to order one. The place itself is no frills. It's a lunch counter that offered great food and fast service. If you need to order takeout, they can whip up your order in less than ten minutes, if they're not too busy. So I will definitely be making my way back more often since I've been reacquainted with this delicious gem and I highly recommend for others to try this tried and true Austin staple as well.

Yelp
I saw a story on the local news where they were searching out the best breakfast tacos and Ken's was on their list. I was out doing some recon on a fine Saturday morning. Parking is tight and the place was busy. Surprising it has a larger dine-in than it looks like from outside. I saw previous posts that say the tacos are big, they are and the price is right. I tried the sausage and egg and poured on the green sauce. So good! That one didn't get a picture, I was hungry and it just didn't get past me opening it up. Plenty of meat and eggs, lots of flavor. The chorizo was just as flavorful, and again, very hearty. I didn't pay attention to the winner of the news channels taco story, but this place was on their list. Ken's is well worth the visit. It's one of those places that you can bring someone from out of town to show off the locals love for breakfast tacos.

Yelp
I finally tried Ken's for lunch. I ordered the Philly Cheese Steak and added jalapeños. It did not disappoint. Trying to lift it and eat it by hand was futile. I ended up using knife and fork. Definitely a great sandwich. Friend had the beef, lettuce and tomato crunchy tacos. They were excellent and like everything there a home run. Prices are very reasonable! The inflation we are suffering has hit every restaurant even Ken's. One thing is still true, you get a great deal still for the price! Best value for all the places in area. Breakfast tacos are epic and definitely some of best in Austin!

Yelp
Can't believe this place still exists. Moved back to Austin. I found this place back in 1996. I'm so glad they stopped using french fries for potatoes. I deducted one star because the bacon needs to be cook a little more. Too raw for me. Their barbacoa is excellent. Almost as good as San Antonio. Can't remember eating lunch, but definitely will be back for breakfast tacos.

Yelp
Tacos in a shipping container building, perfect! The tacos are huge - the breakfast tacos seem to come with like 2/3 eggs per taco. Service is fast and efficient. There is not much atmosphere but it's near my house and easy to pop in for some food.
google avatar

Yelp
When we used to live here, this would be our go-to spot for breakfast tacos. Now, roughly 6 years after our last visit, we come to get their breakfast tacos once again, which is just like before. We always get the one meat sausage breakfast tacos; they always pack it up with a lot of eggs and a good amount of sausage. I tend to get full after just one breakfast taco. The only downside is that since this location is pretty popular, the parking lot tends to get filled up quick, and since its parking lot is pretty small, be prepared to park somewhere else or wait until someone leaves. Other than that, awesome place to get some food :)
google avatar

Steffie S.

Yelp
Ken's makes mucho grande, delicioso breakfast tacos! These are some of the best, most reasonably priced tacos I've had in my 30 years in Austin. Very fresh and their salsas are yummy too. The ladies working behind the counter are doing a terrific job (I have never seen any men working here- so pardon the exclusion if you're there). Leave 15 minutes early for work and treat yourself to a Ken's taco. And yes, one is enough! Let me know if you try it.

Yelp
Overly stuff breakfast tacos is the right way to sell tacos. Great BnE tacos. Great guisada taco. Barbacoa was good. There wasn't a long wait even though there was a lot of people. Guaranteed delicious spot for breakfast.

Jerome B.

Yelp
Went to get 2 Cheeseburgers and they sent the wrong food, wouldn't give the right food, called me a white man, and took my food back with no money returned, This was my first and last time in that establishment.

Mike S.

Yelp
Big and yum tacos! Fast service. The dining area is no frills, but it's a good option for to go.
google avatar

Clarice C.

Yelp
I love the product, breakfast tacos. Parking at the establishment is still a challenge. I ordered a sausage, potato, cheese and easy on the egg taco.

Lucinda S.

Yelp
Delicious tacos (and a wide selection of other fare) efficient service, and the most incredible salsa verde. I love this place and can't wait to go back.
google avatar

Britney G.

Yelp
Love it!! You get huge tacos for the price point and the barbacoa taco is so delicious and moist! It's a hole-in-the-wall and delicious!
google avatar

Maia C.

Yelp
This place is amazing. Great food for breakfast or lunch. Parking can be tight when they're busy.
google avatar

Zoe J.

Yelp
As someone who's a true Austin local, Ken's tacos is the way to go for big breakfast! One small con is the parking lot is very tricky/packed most days I go
google avatar

Heather S.

Yelp
I love this place! They NEVER disappoint. Tacos are always HUGE, fresh and flavorful. They've been a staple in Austin for some time now.
google avatar

Clint S.

Yelp
Years ago when I worked close to this place, my colleagues and I would make regular runs for breakfast tacos which were always loaded with goodness.

John B.

Yelp
The breakfast taco's are so big! You won't go wrong ordering on taco and an extra tortilla. Only open for breakfast and lunch, tacos available all day.

Bob J.

Yelp
Want good food at very reasonable prices. This is the place. They can't do anything about the idiots parking. Sorry.
google avatar

Chanel M.

Yelp
First time I'm back physically in the office within the past 17 months and I already knew I needed to stop by Ken's for lunch. It was a busy Monday so I got their Beef Enchilada Special which also includes a drink (their sweet tea is great) for $7.50. Ken's never disappoints and is great when you're on a budget!
google avatar

robin b.

Yelp
Well it's quirky. But we keep coming back because of the stuff they get right: quality is high, portions are large, and prices are reasonable. In this neighborhood, that's enough to keep it a favorite of pretty much everyone.

Yvonne A.

Yelp
Best Philly cheesesteaks we've ever had. The meet is absolutely tender and flavorful.
google avatar

Jesse S.

Yelp
I stopped by at Ken's for a quick breakfast bite. I had a 3 meat taco and it was nice and fresh and quick. They serve Pepsi here so that's a plus for me. The prices are reasonable and the staff was friendly. Their was plenty of to-go customers getting in and out as well. I sat and ate quickly. There was plenty of tables and the salsa was great. I would recommend this for breakfast.
google avatar

Hope H.

Yelp
Ken's was quick, cheap, and simple, no bs, no fake fancy stuff, just actual food. 10/10, if you're in the area stop by.

Amanda A.

Yelp
10/10! The quality and service were wonderful. Definitely going here over subway, the food was delicious!
google avatar

Sam G.

Yelp
It's a great place to come to . Bit hard to get in over a phone because their lines are usually saturated in the morning.
google avatar

Long L.

Yelp
There's parking out front, but probably max of 8-10 vehicles. When I came at 7am for breakfast there was already a steady flow of people coming in and out to place orders and to grab their takeouts. I learned about this place through word of mouth and some web searches. Highly disappointed. Although their serving sizes were enormous, the food was lackluster and the tacos did not stand out. I ordered two tacos: a bean & cheese and a sausage & egg. Again, they were massive! But upon opening the first tacos, I noticed that the tacos were not toasted and seemed as if they came directly out of the bag without any additional browning. Generic store though soft shells are what they tasted like. The sausage crumble was well seasoned, but the eggs could have used some too. For the bean taco, it was on par to lukewarm. I couldn't finish that taco. The highlight was probably the salsa that it comes with! Great spice and flavor to the green one.

Karen H.

Yelp
I LOVE Ken's. Portions are huge and tasty. I especially like the migas plate and eggs and pancake plate. Only thing I don't like is the cramped parking lot.
google avatar

Mark V.

Yelp
This is the third time that I have had an error with my order at Ken's tacos. They used to be very good at taking orders, had reasonably priced food, and that has all changed in the past 6 months. I understand the prices of had to go up due to inflation, so I'm not deducting stars for that, but now it's just as cheap to eat at a higher quality restaurant like torchy's than it is to get tacos here. When you talk about the quality difference, then it becomes an issue because why should I pay the same price for something that tastes less than a different vendor? Now as for today's error, they took my order over the phone, and I specifically told them three times that I needed soft corn tortillas because I have celiacs disease. This means I can't have flour or gluten. The previous time, they did the same thing with my breakfast taco, and the second error they made within about the same month-long period was putting my order in a crispy shell when I told him I wanted a corn tortilla. So now, I try to make sure that every time I tell them multiple times only to use soft corn. When I got there today they had placed my fajita tacos on soft tortillas. I asked them why they did this, and they said that they did it because I asked for soft tortillas. I told the counter lady that this had been the third time within roughly a month they had messed up my order, I told her that I specifically had asked on the phone for soft corn three times, and her response was I didn't hear you I thought you meant soft tacos. Then even though this was a call in order and I had to be somewhere else after picking it up, they said we'll just make you fresh ones. I told the lady I am not wanting fresh ones I wanted them done right the first time, and now I would just like a refund. She repeated we can make them for you now, and I said I would like a refund. Then she proceeded to try to explain how it was just a mistake and I had to cut them some slack. I told her it's a mistake when it happens one time, maybe twice, but when it happens three times in a roughly a month long time frame it means you guys are missing up. She said you don't have to be rude, so I said I'm not being rude I'm just pointing out that it's not a mistake when you keep doing the same thing over and over and over again. Finally she agreed to give me a refund I will never order from Ken's tacos again which is sad because I have eaten here literally for roughly a decade. At this point I cannot recommend Ken's tacos anymore and I would not waste anyone's time in referring them here for good food, correct quality, and good service. I suggest you take your business elsewhere.

Yelp
Oooh, I love me some Kens Tacos!! The tacos are huge & oh so tasty! My favorites are the barbacoa w/ cheese & the bacon, potato, & cheese tacos!! But really any tacos you get are soooooo good. I took one star off for parking because depending on what time you go it sucks big hairy toes!! I think I need some Kens Tacos in my life right now!!! Rebecca out

Yelp
Delicious and fat tacos for an inexpensive price. That's my kind of eating. You can call in your order, but it make several phone calls! That's how great the food is! You can order in the restaurant and your food will be good, hot and fresh w/o taking along time. Their employees have been there for years and they are efficient.
google avatar

Abhishek S.

Yelp
Straight up flavors and monstrocity... but the flavors are there.. !!!... They have a good selection of sandwiches and tacos... all about the "food" here.. and Texas sized portions... There's something for everybody... look for the daily specials as well... would be good to ask them about portions before your order... I mean.. it's HUGGEEEEE...!!! Enjoy !
google avatar

J M.

Yelp
We've going there for years. The breakfast tacos are so good. Good customer service and I'd definitely recommend Ken's!
google avatar

Brandon R.

Yelp
Love the food! Wish they would bring a location over to pflugerville as they're always a bit busy but we'll worth it!

Rose Ann J.

Yelp
Wow! Their chicken enchilada was good! good portions! Tasted so fresh even if I waited for a couple of hours to eat it.. it was still so good..
google avatar

Sonya H.

Yelp
I tried this place for the first time today. The cheese enchilada plate was great and very filling! I added on a bean and chorizo breakfast taco (breakfast items are served all day ) and that was fantastic and huge! The service was fast and friendly. Go early if you can. There isn't much parking and the place is very popular! I'll definitely go back!

Joshua D.

Yelp
Very great breakfast tacos nice size and fast service plus very reasonably priced as well
google avatar

Starr W.

Yelp
A coworker just turned me on to this place. I have been getting my nails done across the street at C nails for a few years. Let me just say... I got the Chicken Philly and I LOVED IT. No Mayo added mushrooms and jalepenos. Just delicious. Best Philly I have ever had. I will be back!! Just wish their hours were a bit later.
google avatar

Rawhide W.

Yelp
Excellent breakfast taco's and Philly sandwiches. Nothing here is "original" style. The Philly cheese steaks are huge and very good. The sandwiches aren't "OG" style like you'll find at Geno's or Pats in PA, but for Austin they rock. My favorite..... Philly with extra cheese, Jalapeno, bell pepper, onion and mayo. Next time I'm asking for them to toast the sub roll. Mmm.... Just a heads up if you're coming during lunch or breakfast time, this place will be CROWDED. The parking lot is small but if you know how to maneuver your car around you won't have a problem. :)
google avatar

Sarah M.

Yelp
What's left to say that hasn't already been said? Not much, if anything. If you're looking for a good, cheap breakfast taco fixing, this is the spot. You can get a ginormous breakfast taco for a 2-3 bucks and it's so filling you probably wouldn't need a 2nd. I think they put about 4 eggs worth in each taco so it's stuffed to the brim and then some. My go to is the egg, sausage and tomato. I used to get green peppers but they vetoed that from breakfast tacos a couple years back. I had never been into hot sauce before, but this place's is great, so don't forget to put that on your taco. They'll always give you a serving of it per taco. When in doubt, breakfast tacos at Ken's. Your coworkers will love you and your wallet will thank you.
google avatar

Jennifer N.

Yelp
I first came to Ken's with Coworkers for lunch, it was a little iffy to me since we had to park across the road, since the parking lot in front gets full fast. However, the burgers are delicious, and it's such a great price as well. My favorite thing is the Philly on Wednesday as the special. It's fantastic, you get so much food for the price. It does get really crowded though during lunch so plan accordingly. The food comes out fast though, but the lunch special is great, it's $5.95 for a giant Philly with chips and a drink. The staff is very friendly as well, I love going here for lunch.
google avatar

Paul S.

Yelp
I've been going to Ken's since the old days when they were located across the road. Absolutely fantastic burgers and monster breakfast tacos. Home made fries too. Always been a good deal throughout the years. I no longer work on that side of town, but if I'm anywhere nearby I'll make it a point to stop here for lunch. Limited parking in front of the business. Last time I was there they had additional parking across the road. Arrive early. Lots of people show up here.
google avatar

Pal G.

Yelp
Alright, alright, alriiiiiiigggght!! This place is great! Dunno why it took me so long to come here regardless of the reviews... oh yeah, the name. So if you're like me and the name isn't a place you feel would serve decentvtacos at best ignore that thought! So far I've only tried their bacon, egg, and cheese (mucho huevos, almost a whole pigs worth of bacon, and enough cheese that I'm not disgusted with myself afterwards), carne guisada (lean! Repeat: lean! So good!), and chicken fajita (dude, it's dank af). Can't wait to try more tacos and will not shy away from trying something out of my comfort zone because it has all been very good. Also, customer service is top notch. They're all so sweet, fast, and super courteous :)
google avatar

Karen C.

Yelp
Very casual atmosphere. Came for a burger but got amazing beef fajita tacos. Wow! What a delight! I'll frequent here a lot!
