My wife and I stayed at the Kimpton Sawyer in mid-February and I didn't want to wait too long to post this review, because the memories are still pretty fresh in my mind right now, and they're very pleasant, happy memories, so I wanted to recapture them.
The little things go a long way with the Sawyer. For me, RIGHT off the bat, I knew it was going to be a great stay based on my excellent and pleasant check-in experience. And our room was ready, which is a huge bonus after you've been driving several hours to arrive at the hotel. The front desk representative was awesome, she was so pleasant and helpful, and just pretty much the ideal experience you'd want when checking in. But that was hardly the end of it, as they had a welcome (paper) card awaiting when we got into the room, simply to welcome us back to Kimpton (in general - we'd never previously stayed at this particular Kimpton before). Hand written, mind you! What a nice touch, I thought!
I mean, we've been fans of the Kimpton brand for years, well before it was acquired by IHG, and to me, they've always excelled at hiring customer service staff. I mean, in this business, EVERYONE is a customer service representative, I suppose, but it's always impressed me how they can attract, hire, and retain such consistently excellent personnel. Our original experiences were mostly in the Midwest before we relocated to Arizona, and we were going through Sacramento as part of a trip to the redwoods and back home to AZ. The Sawyer, to me, was a shining example of that very quality we're talking about with great staff.
LOVED the room, got a text shortly after arriving in the room asking if the room was to our liking (why, yes, very much, thank you) and offering service tips. Nicely done. They accommodated our higher floor request, the bed was super comfortable, plenty of desk space, and - get THIS - a set of cool little flexible bed reading lights (very thin and flexible, hardly noticeable but SO functional, built right into the headboards on both ends, really nice little detail to me). Really liked the view, and it's part of the downtown (DOCO) complex, with plenty of things to do (shop, dine). GREAT location, too, we easily walked to the capitol and parts west of there too (enjoyed Old Soul and Temple Coffee Roasters very much).
Nice modern design, plenty of USB ports, so this was functional but fun. The bathroom was pleasant as well. I just don't see the need to stay anywhere else in Sacramento, and we will absolutely stay at the Sawyer next time we're anywhere near Sacramento. I'd even go so far as to say I'd consider going to Sacramento again BECAUSE of the Sawyer!
