Where To Eat Outside In Palm Springs

"Located inside the recently reopened Ace Hotel, King’s Highway has long been one of our favorite breakfast spots in Palm Springs with seasonally-changing menu that’s always full of the things you want to eat while nursing a hangover. Think breakfast bagel sandwiches, BLTs, and burgers. The interior is currently closed of course, but the entire menu is available poolside." - brant cox

"If there’s one night to slide into a booth at this casual diner inside the hip Ace Hotel & Swim Club, make it a Monday. That’s when the place is transformed by the unmissable presence of 90-year-old ex-showgirl Shirley Claire, who sings and brings a healthy dose of razzle-dazzle as she hosts Fabulous Bingo. In fact, most nights of the week have a theme—see Tuesday karaoke at the adjacent Amigo Room bar, half-off wine bottles on Wednesday, and Taco Jueves—so making reservations is a good idea, but not a must. If you wind up waiting for a table, grab an Orange You Glad To See Me—made with gin, orange, Chareau, and lime—and pop into the photo booth. With its stone wall, leather booths, and globe pendant lights, the diner (a former Denny’s) embraces the spirit of the sixties, while the menu offers a distinctly Californian twist on Southwestern and Mexican fare. Must-orders: For breakfast (served until 2 p.m.), opt for the desert classic Date Shake and Huevos Rancheros, made with California- and Coachella Valley–sourced ingredients. For dinner, try the Grilled Mahi Mahi Tacos or Desert Highway Burgers, and request the pickled jalapeños for added kick."

King’s Highway Review - Palm Springs - Los Angeles - The Infatuation

"It’s not often you eat brunch in an abandoned Denny’s and want your friends to see it on Instagram. Yet sure enough, inside of America’s hipster safe house (Ace Hotel), King’s Highway is the all-day cafe where everyone who just can’t with the pool anymore wants to be seen. Don’t let the wide-brim hat crowd fool you though - with a menu full of things people like to eat before noon, King’s Highway has sneakily become one of the best breakfasts in town and has a Jetson-chic atmosphere going for it, too. photo credit: Jakob Layman" - Brant Cox

What a Vibe!! Someone suggested us this place for brunch in Palm Springs. The interior is lovely with beautiful details. We had pets with our group so we couldn't sit indoors, however the patio too was perfect to spend a nice time having lunch with live music at the pool and total vacation vibes. We had a trio mezze platter, Fried cauliflower in appetizers. We loved both. Pasta in the main course was okay. It was the only vegetarian option available in main course. I hope they add more vegetarian options. Service was quick.

We were at this clean beautifully appointed restaurant about noon on a Sunday and were offered breakfast and lunch menu choices. Fresh well prepared food delivered in a reasonable amount of time by Sara, a lovely and personable server. Sara is friendly and engaged and efficient. The hostess also conveyed a hospitable vibe. We had the breakfast burrito served with tater tots and yogurt parfait, a lovely bowl of plain yogurt with berries, granola, tiny mint leaves and maple syrup. We enjoy sitting at the car and comfortably did so. We will definitely return!

Solid food, service, and atmosphere. I love coming to King's Highway. It is always a great time with great food! The chocolate milkshake is crazy good.

Google
The food was pretty good. The service was bad for us, however. It took them forever to bring us stuff, and at one point we had to go to the counter to get them to bring us water. It also took them pretty long to bring out our food.

We came for Monday Bingo with Bella da Ball - and if I were rating the bingo alone, it’d be a solid 5 stars. Bella is welcoming, high-energy, and keeps the crowd engaged from start to finish. Definitely bring some cash to tip her if you can (though she does accept PayPal and Venmo). Also, don’t worry about arriving right at 7, people joined in throughout the evening. We also tried the Craft Beer Mystery Bucket, which is great value. Just a heads-up: it’s not strictly beer - you might find a vodka soda or two mixed in. As for the food, it was underwhelming. We had the Fried Chicken Sandwich and the Roast Chicken, and neither stood out. Bottom line: come for Bella and the entertainment. If you’re going mainly for the food and drinks, it’s probably not worth it.

Google
What a cool spot! We decided to go here for breakfast. Sat outside with the dog. Service was great. She had the avocado toast and a espresso martini and i had the chilaquiles. I order this everywhere I go and this is in the top 5 ever. Taste, texture and appearance where all there. She loves her food and drink as well.

Google
Got the chicken sandwich. Looked like a fish sandwich. The batter tasted fishy also the batter on onion rings was soft and slightly fishy too. Fries not so good. My partners Ceasar salad was good and refreshing...tangy which we like. Cool vibes, decently priced. I'd go elsewhere. Fin.

Best vegan chorizo in PS. Our server, Sarah, was wonderful.

Yelp
We've eaten here about our fourth time breakfast and lunch are delicious. The breakfast burritos and the ricotta pancakes are definitely the best Local Palm Springs residents ask for LOCAL DISCO for 20% discount off the price of your meals at Kings Highway restaurant and participating restaurants. The servers are friendly and the food is delicious

Yelp
This was an old Denny's restaurant back in the day. Stopped here for breakfast and ordered coffee (Stumptown), highway breakfast with chicken sausage and ricotta pancakes - everything was tasty and really good food. Plenty of parking, has counter area seating, and it's part of the Ace Hotel & Swim Club. Super cute decor and the staff was very friendly and attentive.

Yelp
Cute place This is a cute little dinner type of breakfast place straight out of the 60' - 70's. You can tell by looking at this building that it has a strong mid-century modern vibe. It may have had some updates to make it more modern, but it still feels very retro. As for the food, they have many 21st century items that meet the needs of people today that like clean and healthy foods. There are fresh juices to pick from, and the menu definitely feels like it is geared towards a modern and healthy lifestyle.... not the generic diet of the 70's. It's open and airy and overall has a relaxed and hip vibe. I recommend this place for breakfast!

Yelp
Monday bingo is the best! Had a great time looking forward to coming back! And you can charge your Tesla too!

Yelp
Bringing it back to some old school vibes with the decor and scenery. Attached to a hotel is this quaint diner. We ordered the salmon lox and ricotta pancakes ~ both were super delicious! Also the fresh squeezed OJ was super refreshing (just wish the cup was bigger). Service was great as well. Wish I had room for their appetizers too!

Yelp
We went there on a Sunday morning, we were lucky it wasn't that busy, we were seated right away. Everyone's meal was so delicious , coffee was great, strong and not bitter, We ordered some fresh orange juice for $10 and we thought we would get a nice glass of orange juice but it was a half a glass. That's my only complaint.. The waiter was pleasant, although he didn't stop by our table too often to see how we were . We love the atmosphere and also the building . Will be back next time in Palm Springs.

Yelp
Keep your receipt- I filled out both of mine but left my copy there and they overcharged my card. No one manning the phones, unhappy seeming staff. This place could be great! It's a great location, and better than some diners these days for sure. But still, some low quality ingredients, with a side of some low quality scams.

Yelp
On our last morning in PS before our flight home :( we walked from where we were staying to Kings Highway which is a diner in the Ace hotel. It has a super cool retro vibe (it used to be an old Denny's from the 50's.) And, Wow! We had the best breakfast! My husband got the King's Highway breakfast with 2 eggs, chicken sausage, the breakfast potatoes (more on that later:) and the sour dough toast which he gave to me as he is gluten intolerant. It's too bad, too, because that bread was awesome! Toasted well and served with a nice strawberry jam and butter. He said everything was awesome! He particularly liked that the sausage links were cut in half and grilled. I got the avocado toast (I'm vegetarian) which was on the same sourdough bread (carb overload but worth it!) with a ton of avocado, radishes, micro greens, and a tangy tomato jam which set it apart from other avocado toasts. I loved it! I did have to add a bit of salt but that's a personal preference perhaps. I also got a side of the breakfast potatoes which were sooo good. They were crispy on the outside, soft on the inside and seasoned to perfection. I didn't think I could possibly eat them all as it's quite a lot of food, but I made a valiant effort! Danny, our waiter was attentive. We told him how much we enjoyed the breakfast and the way he spoke about the dishes showed the pride he has in the restaurant. We highly recommend this place!

Yelp
They have the best ricotta cheese pancakes, chilaquiles and the kings highway breakfast, all three are our go to!!! We love Angel and Lisa in the outdoor dining, come see them they have the best customer service! Also the ladies at the feel good spa are amazing!! Love the Desert sage oil, the mist and also the chardonnay oil for laying out was delicious. We come here for the food, the staff and the DJ's!!!

Yelp
I had the pleasure of enjoying a delicious dinner at King's Highway during our stay at ACE this weekend and I was extremely pleased with the service and food. We started out with cocktails, they were delicious and well presented, our meal consisted of Mushroom Ravioli and the Caesar Salad, both dishes were bursting with flavor and complemented each other very well. The portions were generous and the food was plated nicely, the ingredients were fresh and noticeably made in-house. The ambiance was relaxed, retro and comfortable and our server was attentive, friendly, and welcoming. She served our meal with a smile and offered recommendations and went out of her way to get information when we asked for it. The setting is on the casual side and not very intimate with booth seating but the decor makes for a fun date night. Will definitely be stopping in again next time I'm in the area.

Yelp
Had a late breakfast by the pool. Really great vibes. Like most of this town, you feel transported to about 1975. Breakfast sandwich was OK. My gf had a good salad and grilled cheese, which was better. Recommend for the vibes alone.

Yelp
I'm at the age where I slightly EYE-ROLL at the idea of going to the Ace Hotel for food... but the former Denny's-turned classy modern-retro diner did not disappoint. Fortunately, it was a quiet Tuesday morning and all the party kids (whom I assume stay there on weekends) were gone, and the place was not crowded at all. I was a basic B and got the Breakfast Burrito - damn, it was good. The Coffee is STUMPTOWN and it was f-ing good. Almost good enough to make me pay 17 for it at the grocery store... (almost) Staff was attentive and friendly. Turned out to be the perfect pitstop before our drive back to LA.
google avatar

Yelp
always loving coming here for meals- especially breakfast! they have some of the best bfast potatoes!! Their caesar salad is always good too!
google avatar

Alison B.

Yelp
Sunday brunch I loved the entire menu but really had some special I was craving. Mimosas and pancakes! Had the ricotta pancakes they gave me life. Service was awesome, everyone was like really really nice take note it was Sunday brunch/lunch and the pool was jumping. Like semi windy day in Palm Springs but still sunny and gorgeous. Pool was packed so was King's Highway. I know the kitchen was busy and every plate I saw come out to other tables looked so good. It was so hard to decide what to get I wanted to order like 3 different entrees. Spot was dog friendly and kid friendly. Will be back with more mouths to try more things.
google avatar

Greg G.

Yelp
Go for the vibes not the food. It's just frozen Cisco food. Very basic but the hotel and ambiance are pretty cool
google avatar

Amelea J.

Yelp
The place is trendy with a typical diner set up. Service is quick and friendly. Chicken sandwich was delish and I would get it again. Warning it does fall apart easily.
google avatar

Anastaciomarcos M.

Yelp
What's kind of skeptical at first? But my god, the meals were Fabulous. The salmon and lox sandwich And arugula salad is phenomenon Love the presentation on my sandwich
google avatar

Jordan A.

Yelp
Nostalgic atmosphere, quiet and convenient. Overpriced for what you get, IMO. I think they'd do better with more basic food items done well, like simple breakfast, sandwiches soups, the service was great.
google avatar

Raul M.

Yelp
My wife and I went here for breakfast recently in the middle of the week. It wasn't busy but there were several people dining there. We were helped and served promptly. I ordered the avocado toast and my wife ordered their two egg breakfast. She ordered a coffee and I got an Americano. I'll start by noting that the avocado toast was perhaps the best I've ever had. The microgreens added to it made it even better. My wife's food was also quite good, but frankly, the avocado toast is something to write home about. My only complaint is that the server refilled my Americano with regular coffee, but it seemed like an honest mistake. Last thing: it was quite loud inside, but they are doing construction near the restrooms, so it's unavoidable. We'll definitely be back!
google avatar

Scott L.

Yelp
Went here years ago when we stayed at the ACE. Now that I'm in PS so often, this has become one of my "go-to's." LOVE the Chicken Quarter dinner and drinks are primo. Staff is always nice and we were able to catch the Drag Bingo this Monday - was super fun.
google avatar

Hugo B.

Yelp
Retro cool ambiance, good music and service but knocking off points for lacking plant-based/vegan options. In this day and age in California you'd expect at least one option. We ended up having fries, an arugula salad minus the cheese and a hummus appetizer. Old reviews mentioned vegan options but no longer. Wine was very basic.
google avatar

David S.

Yelp
I know it's the Desert but still I was expecting better for a ~$21 dollar burger with a side. The bun was dry, the salad gloppy, tho the burger was respectable, but my friend's French fries weren't served hot (he also got the burger and wasn't that impressed either). The decor is like Howard Johnson's with booths in an open space. Nothing particularly wrong with the service except I could tell no one was happy to be working there, which is kinda a downer. These elements could all be fixed with some work, as in keep the burger and toppings and address the other aspects dragging the burger down to a ** event.
google avatar

Mickey T.

Yelp
This used to be the spot in Palm Springs. Now it's a tired looking diner with ridiculous prices. $35 for fish and chips that were actually only diner quality. Service was hard to come by even though place was surprisingly quiet the night I was there. Will say it's still got some charm and the stained glass panels are nice.
google avatar

Jeanette G.

Yelp
My first time here to see Dent May and we reserved a table to watch while eating some dinner. The food was amazing and so was the ambience! Couldn't have had a better first time visit! It was an amazing experience!
google avatar

Mark L.

Yelp
I was so disappointed by this place. The food was average, the service was horrible and the wait for food was unacceptable with half the order coming a full 10 minutes after the other food. I went in May and it was amazing. This time was such a shame. I won't be back.
google avatar

Brandon C.

Yelp
Come for the old school diner vibe. Depending on how busy it is, there an be a bit of a wait and service can be slow. Our food was great - we got the breakfast sandwich and breakfast burrito. Both were good portions and had great flavor.
google avatar

Judy T.

Yelp
I love the retro diner interior, but tonight has dinner outside on the patio. It was a beautiful night with one of my favorite mountain views. The hotel was pretty quiet so it was mellow. It's usually very lively but tonight was chill. Loved it. Our server made the experience really excellent. She was so kind and lovely. I had a wedge salad and my friend had the burger. Both good enough. I like this spot.
google avatar

Beau H.

Yelp
A great spot from Daytime to Nighttime As a nice idea here is to go into the bar area and enjoy drinks - and order from the food menu the hamburger is made with love and its perfect with a side of arugula. The bartenders are nice and the ambiance is low key mid century and very macrame. I have spent New Years' here - hot summers and drank many bloody Marys here and happy to make it a part of my Palm Spring experience each time. Thank you Ace Hotel and Kings highway for making our times great!

Liz L.

Yelp
Food and service was amazing!!! I looooooooove this place!!!!!!!!!! It is soooooooooooo delicious and the people are GREAT!!!!
google avatar

Sherri M.

Yelp
What I like about King's Highway is that (for better or worse) it never seems to be too packed so it's an easy choice for walk-ins. As a local, that's a big win, especially in season, if we find ourselves needing a bite and haven't planned ahead. The kitchen's open til 10pm -- also a plus -- which is (sadly) later than most. The charred broccoli is really good but offered 5-10pm only. Coffee is good. The booths are comfy. That's where my Pro list ends based on a handful of visits. What they seem to be going for is a trendy* but casual diner/bar, serving elevated** comfort food and fancy cocktails. Unfortunately, "diner" is the only vibe that comes across, except for the prices which are not diner-y. Service is slow and/or inattentive. Most of the food is Just OK. The Wedge salad I had last time was swimming in way too much dressing. My husband's Caesar w/ chicken was better on the dressing front but nothing special; the chicken was flavorless. *Whether they're going for trendy or not, this is at the Ace Hotel in Palm Springs, after all. **Elevated is my nice way of saying their menu is small (for a diner) and arguably pretentious. You don't see celery root puree, toybox tomatoes, or a tortellini entrée with pistachio and chile aioli on a typical diner menu. And if you're gonna talk the talk, the food better be at least as good as it sounds.
google avatar

Liv M.

Yelp
love coming here for breakfast. best coffee in the desert & always good service & ambiance. food is a 10/10 & so are the vibes. the outside area is so cute - great view of the mountains and the pool. the perfect place to get you in a vacation mood!
google avatar

Andrea A.

Yelp
Came here for brunch! We tried the pancakes and the chicken sandwich. Both were good. We sat outside which is attached to the pool area of the ace hotel. Nice ambiance. Server and host were both great and offered a water bowl for our dog. Would come back again!
google avatar

Deidre M.

Yelp
I've been here many times throughout the years, but I was very impressed by the wonderful service we had this past Saturday night (during Coachella weekend to boot!). The company my husband works for hosted a post-pool party dinner here for 25+ staff members and it was an excellent time! The waitstaff was attentive and organized, and the kitchen did an excellent job at getting all orders accurate and served hot and on time, together! I am sure it wasn't an easy job to do and appreciate the orchestration! We were all able to sit together too ~ they put many tables together down the center of the restaurant and it was intimate despite the large group! Thank you so much!!!!!!!! PS recommend the striped bass dish, Mac & cheese, and onion rings yum after a long day poolside!!!
google avatar

Sam R.

Yelp
My partner introduced me to Kings Highway while we were staying at the ace hotel, as it is one of his favorite spots. This diner is half the reason I am down to stay at ace because it is so freaking convenient and delicious! Especially breakfast. I always split the avocado toast with a poached egg on top and the egg salad breakfast sandwich. Reasonably predicted, fast service, and so so good! We came to kings highway last weekend before heading back to LA even though we were in a different hotel. It was nice to see indoor dining is back. Even though they were short staffed, our waiter was really great about rolling with the punches and still got our food out without a hitch. Super positive, friendly service. This is definitely worth stopping by!

Mark R.

Yelp
This place rocks. We came for brunch on a Saturday. Plenty of seating, amazing coffees, good beer selection, and well executed breakfast items. Good service, what more could you want? A+ Get the bourbon bacon! They slather it in a delicious syrup.
google avatar

Jessica Q.

Yelp
Very expensive for the size of the meals. We got a Belgian waffle and a breakfast burrito and it was $40 before tip. For that price, I'd expect much larger dishes. The food did taste good though. The service was friendly, but pretty slow
google avatar

OG R.

Yelp
The service here was amazing. I was not expecting anything great, but the lady went above and beyond! She gave my partner a cake with a candle -- on the house. My partner wanted to come here for his bday brunch. It looks like a renovated and modernized Denny's restaurant, or some former diner. Easy parking. Fast service. Good food.
google avatar

Corey H.

Yelp
They change the menu every two to three weeks seasonally (if you were confused like we were by other menus available online.) we had very attentive, friendly service. The burger was juicy and the special sauce added a punch of flavor (boyfriend's words!) My pork tenderloin was huge and juicy, loved the pistachio crust and loved the sides of Brussels sprouts, and mashed potatoes. The music was funky, the decor was diner. $18 burger, z$28 tenderloin...
google avatar

Kendrian Jade D.

Yelp
This place was exactly what we wanted it to be. Good coffee, great (good-sized)breakfast burrito, the ricotta pancakes were fantastic. Actually it was so good, we went back-to-back mornings and happened to get the same server. He was fantastic, laid-back and attentive, just what you want early in the morning. The whole atmosphere just has that laid back vibe. Thanks KH! We'll be back and we'll send peeps your way. Get the: Ricotta Pancakes Breakfast Burrito And star of the show.... The Breakfast potatoes.

Richard H.

Yelp
The atmosphere transports me to a 1970s diner, but the prices bring me right back to a 2024 Joe Biden economy. $10 orange juice in an 8oz glass will do that to you.
google avatar

michelle d.

Yelp
East window dining area... I had the best steak frites here. $32 for steak and seasoned steak fries.
google avatar

Nat Y.

Yelp
We came to King's Highway for a late dinner. The food was great, very large portions, Which is great since the prices are little high, I ordered the Tuesday Special: Chicken Flautas. Very delicious, with non traditional salsas I would note. It was $21. Would definitely love to dine here again, I would describe it as a fancy diner. Desserts looked great too but the portion was so big, there was no way I had room in my tummy for it. The service was great, little slow getting the check, I think they are short staffed. Thanks again Kings Highway!
google avatar

Lauren H.

Yelp
Food was great! We all got different dishes and we loved them all! Service was so friendly and super helpful! We were a party of seven with two kids. Both kids spilt their syrup all over the table. Our server and another waiter came over immediately with wet towels to clean it up. And they brought more syrup! As a mom, it was such a relief - accidents happen but I always feel so bad to have someone else clean up our mess. They had no problem with it at all and were cracking jokes while doing it. This is a great place! Also, coffee was delicious!

Jeanne R.

Yelp
Love love love the food, service and STUMPTOWN COFFEE! Ambiance was thrill hippy/ ish The food is very good
google avatar

Dave S.

Yelp
The best date shake in all of Palm Springs! Even the entire Coachella Valley! Good service and fair prices.
google avatar

Jane S.

Yelp
We ordered Belgian waffles and Açaí Bowl. Açaí Bowl was good. The mint didn't work for my palette but it was different and interesting to try. But the Belgian waffle was delicious. Omg the whipped butter and that maple syrup combo was *chefs kiss* Iced Latte was good. I liked the desert diner ambiance. I went on a Wednesday during lunch time and it wasn't too busy which I enjoyed.
google avatar

Jen B.

Yelp
Great spot for breakfast! Our server Sanny was awesome, attentive, and super friendly. Our order came out correct and everything was delicious. Love the vibe here! I would note, if you're under 6 feet tall, the diner barstools may not be your jam. Our legs were kind of dangling..odd height of stools lol. But awesome spot and will be back to try more!

Alison And Mike P.

Yelp
Ate here a few years back during Modernism Week and now finally stayed at the Ace and tried it again. Day 1 we had the King's Highway Breakfast complete with scrambled eggs, vegan sausage, home potatoes, and toast. Everything was delicious. My husband had a cold brew which he enjoyed and I had an $8 orange juice in a small glass. Kind of outrageous prices all around, but the OJ was good enough to justify spending $8 again for the next day's breakfast. Spending time at the pool we opted for the spreads and crudité plate with cucumber, sweet peppers, lavash chips, hummus, labneh and baba ganoush. The labneh stole the show and overall this was a refreshing poolside snack on a very hot day. For dinner that night we had the grilled cheese which sounded amazing with several kinds of cheese, spicy mustard, and a roasted tomato, but was very sloppily made. I honestly could've made a better grilled cheese from home. There was one dollop of mustard in the middle of the sandwich and lots of bread with no cheese whatsoever. We also had the arugula salad which was decent but not amazing. This was by far the most disappointing meal. Breakfast again and we had the brekkie burrito subbed vegan sausage and a Belgian waffle. Both were delicious! In a nutshell I'd say breakfast is a 5/5 and dinner was a 3/5. Prices are a lot for what it is but that's what you get at a hipster establishment.

Yelp
So I wanted to try the Monday night Bingo with Bella DeBall, but there is a minimum spend of $30 on food and beverage per person. That seemed fair since some bingo places charge for the bingo cards and this place doesn't. But the reviews for the service and food were mostly bad so I was hesitant. We took a chance and I had a good experience. I had the Monday special, it wasn't "fried chicken" but more like boneless breast cutlets. It was pretty good. Hubby had the roasted salmon which was even better. Also had a cold IPA. I'm usually starving when the food arrives so I always forget to take photos. The prices were high for the portion size but that is to be expected during a special event that is otherwise free. I wouldn't dine here otherwise. Service was reasonably fast and friendly. Unfortunately we didn't win any bingo games, but the prizes were decent, I heard a $25 or $50 gift card to the restaurant towards the last few games. Bella is amusing and finds ways to make it interesting even though it must get tedious having to say the same numbers over and over again with new enthusiasm.
