I've had bad restaurant experiences, but King St. Oyster Bar was something else.
My wife and I took our two kids (4 and 6) there on Saturday. We got there at 6pm and were seated quickly. We couldn't get a waiter or waitress to serve us. We spent the next 30 minutes (not exaggerating) trying to get someone to just bring our kids water. They were so thirsty. We were told by the staff that we flagged down that they would bring water 3 times...but no water. Finally, just after 6:30pm, a waitress came to our table and we ordered food and drinks. We asked multiple times if she could bring water quickly.
Fast forward and surprise, no water, no drinks, no food for anyone. After 10 more minutes, our kids were so thirsty! At 6:40pm, I went up to the bar to try and order our drinks and food, but the bartender wouldn't let me order anything. I explained that we'd been there for 40 minutes but she wouldn't let me order. She just said she would send a waiter to our table.
6:45pm: The same waitress that had taken our order previously showed up, and took the exact same order that we had already made! It was ridiculous. We asked that they just bring out all the food, appetizers and mains, at the same time. We also asked if they could just bring water for our little kids!!!
Surprise surprise... minutes later AND WE STILL HAD NO WATER!!!! Forget the fact that wed been there for over 45 minutes and they hadn't served us the beer or cocktails we ordered, but our kids just wanted a sip of water! WTF!!!
I went to the bar again to order food and drinks at 6:50pm. Surprise, the bartender wouldn't take my order. She just said she would send a server to our table! She said she was sorry but they were short staffed. At this point I'm offended that I'm being refused service and beyond pissed off.
6:55pm: Our little kids just want to leave so they can get water. My wife grabs two glasses from an empty table and goes up to the bar demanding that they fill them up with water for our kids. Finally we have a little bit of water...just for the kids but at least they have water.
7:05pm: They bring the main dishes that my wife and I ordered...but nothing for our kids! Unreal that after sitting there for an hour they bring us food but nothing for our kids when we asked them to serve us all at the same time. The food was fine, lukewarm and mediocre...but nothing you would complain about if it was served in a timely manner. After waiting an hour...it was obviously beyond sub par.
7:15pm: They finally bring our children the orders from the kids menu that we had placed almost an hour prior. Their food was cold and they both had French fries that felt stale. (We had to take them across the street to Wegmans to get them dinner after this whole debacle.)
7:20pm: For some reason they bring me the beer I ordered over an hour ago well after I finished my dinner...while never bringing the glass of wine that my wife ordered (or the cocktail I ordered when I realized they wouldn't bring my beer).
7:25pm: The bartender brings my wife a glass of wine. She asks me what kind of vodka I want in my cocktail that I ordered over an hour ago. ???????? (Same bartender that wouldn't let us order food, drinks, or even give us water until pushed to give it just for our kids.)
7:26pm: We ask for the check which remarkably, they bring in 30 seconds. Hilariously, my cocktail that they never made or served, is actually on the check buts it's zero'd out. Nice of them to comp us a drink that they never served after an hour.
I don't know how to sum up the experience. I've been to restaurants that are short staffed, leading to frustrating experiences, but this wasn't that. It felt more like institutionalized stupidity and ineptitude. I don't want to give the wrong impression...the staff were all seemingly nice and friendly people, but I've never seen such a consistent level of bad service. Hopefully they get their act together but DO NOT bring your kids here. Having a kids menu doesn't make it family friendly.
