"Kitchen Cray on H Street is a multigenerational hot spot where you can woo your partner, get wild with your friends, or chill with momma—all in the same place, which makes up for the aight food. The American restaurant lives up to its name, so some of the menu items will have you tilting your head in both confusion and curiosity (like the burger topped with shrimp). Your eyes will follow every plate that passes the table and the buffalo sauce on the KC chicken sandwich assaults your nose in the best way. Unfortunately, the food doesn’t taste quite as good as it looks or smells, but it’s decent and the portions are huge. Quick warning: if the DJ is playing, be prepared to yell, but the jams are solid and everybody (including the DJ) is usually having a good time." - Tristiana Hinton, Omnia Saed

"Head to Kitchen Cray on H Street for a meal where you can twerk between bites without judgment—the Black-owned American restaurant has a DJ on weekends who will play everything from Luther Vandross to Megan Thee Stallion. It’s a multigenerational party, so it’s fine for your grandmama and your little cousin (but maybe leave alluv’em home if you’re planning to drop it low). The food lives up to its name, so some of the menu items will have you tilting your head in both confusion and curiosity (like the burger topped with shrimp). Everything tastes almost as good as it smells, and the portions are huge so you’ll likely have some to take home with you—helpful if you go a little too hard." - Tristiana Hinton

"Opened in 2020 during the pandemic, KitchenCray is already a hit in restaurant-heavy H Street. It's all about mimosas during brunch, by the glass or the carafe, plus generously portioned brunch hits like creamy cheddar grits topped with deep-fried catfish and Cajun crawfish étouffée, an oxtail Benedict served on a Southern biscuit, and buttermilk fried chicken served with decadent French toast. KitchenCray's chef and owner James “J.R.” Robinson’s resume includes opening a catering business and appearing as a contestant on “Hell’s Kitchen.” Head here to indulge and celebrate a birthday—or just a Sunday Funday—with a heaping helping of mac and cheese and a DJ-led soundtrack." - Adele Chapin

"Kitchen Cray’s opening in 2013 marked a pivotal turning point in chef and owner J.R. Robinson’s career. At his Lanham, Maryland, restaurant, he served a contemporary take on soul food recipes to celebrities such as Janelle Monae and secured his placement as a contestant on Hell’s Kitchen. He recently expanded Kitchen Cray to H Street NE, where customers can find its signature buttermilk fried chicken topped over a mountain of french toast drizzled with caramel and vanilla sauces." - Stephanie Williams

Black-owned restaurant blending American soul food with Caribbean flavors. Good atmosphere, our server was nice. The day we went we were lucky we got seated fast and we were in and out. The crab spring rolls are really good, my wife still talk about them until this day.

First time here! It was great service the minute we walked in the door. Our server, Jada Q, was delightful! Took our drink order and told us the day's specials and made her own recommendations. I had the chicken and french toast and my wife had the blackened salmon. Both dishes were served in the perfect amount of time and still deliciously hot on arrival. The French toast is unbelievable! It paired perfectly with the buttermilk battered chicken and the seasonal berries strewn about the plate. No bites were left when I was done. Soooo good! My wife reported the salmon was done perfectly and the bed mashed potatoes and spinach enhanced the flavors. She also left nothing on her plate. A rare thing for her to do! The manager even stopped by the table table to ask how everything was. We couldn't hold back that we were very satisfied and assured him we would talk up the restaurant as much as we could. We left with full stomachs and a smile on our faces. Please don't short yourself! Get to this place! You'll be happy you did!

Stopped in for brunch, was told there was a long wait. Everything was way faster than expected. All hot fresh and delicious. Mimosas were even amazing, and the service was great. Is definitely a fave I'll revisit whenever I'm in DC. Personal faves: Grits, chicken & waffles and the shrimp appetizer was delicious.

We travel around the hood trying different French…I had so much hope for this one…but for $27 this food was mid to low. The chicken (very tender 👍🏾) tasted as if it may have been fried in grease that needed changing. I expected the actual French toast to have flavor. Cinnamon, vanilla (from vanilla flavoring, brown sugar, orange zest, something….nothing. The food was warm (of course) but the syrup it’s served with was cold. Chicken seasoning wasn’t robust. No eggs came with this so I ordered a side. They were cooked well and very flavorful. The cheeses come together well and there was a good portion. The DJ was good as well. My friend and I both ordered this (so 2), A water, and a coke and our bill was $80. Our favorite brunch French toast (The Carlyle Grand) served French toast 3 thick pieces) eggs, potatoes and bacon for $15. I don’t mind pay food either. I just need to to be great

This brunch spot is lit. For a party of 4 total bill was $202.50. We ordered a mimosa carafe which is $30. They got lots of flavors. Mango. Strawberry. Passionfruit. The mac and cheese is fire they should make it come with entrees not just be a side but for a side it is big. The blackened salmon is bomb. The buttermilk chicken is fire. They have a dj playing loud music. Drinks are strong. Make sure to make reservations in advance.

The staff was nice & quick I ordered, Chicken and French toast super good, mambo sauce chicken was good ,honey glazed shrimp was bomb ,the crab cake egg rolls was ok the catfish was GOOD . Drinks was LEGIT I’m feeling GOOD lol.

Google
The DJ was cool..but the music was extremely loud, could barley hear your waiter. The Lemonade taste liked lemon water. 👎🏾The sweet iced tea was pretty good. The lobster Mac is no longer "lobster mac", they no longer have lobsters. Menu needs to be updated to the CrabClaw Mac and Cheese..it was very good. I give it 4 stars 🌟.The Kitchen Cray mumbo sauce wings were good, could have been cooked a little longer (for me) but the sauce was great!!I give it 3 stars 🌟. The Fish and grits only 2 🌟. The grits were cold the fish was small in size. The breading was not browned enough. The service was mediocre. Had to ask for things several times before receiving them.

It took me awhile to get here. Now that I'm finally there it was good. Needless to say the food is great. Even during the pandemic the customer service was great. The food was delivered to the table fast and hot. It is tasty and fulfilling. You will not leave hungry. Remember this is DC on H St so parking is not available in an abundance. But the appetizers the shrimp and wings and crab fries were great. Definitely going again.

Yelp
I went to KitchenCray over a year ago and I still crave the cheesy grits! The food was amazing. My only issue was the long wait time. If you are craving fresh, hot, and tasty soul food, go to KitchenCray!

Yelp
Walked in for solo brunch on a Saturday afternoon. I waited a few moments for a seat to be cleared at the bar and I then I sat there. The vibes in this spot were great. There was a DJ, pitchers of mimosas and a few birthday shoutouts from the staff. There are a couple of TV's above the bar which made for nice views of the NCAA games. The staff is very nice and helpful. I had the catfish and grits at the waitress's suggestion. They were good. Grits were the perfect consistency (and they had cheese). Catfish was good and topped w/ crab meat. She was correct, it was a great choice. I saw someone smoking hookah so that's also available there. Didn't love that they were smoking next to me at the bar though, maybe there should be more separation between those smoking and those who don't want to smoke. Also, be mindful that a gratuity is automatically added to your bill.

Yelp
I was visiting from NYC so you know its always a good vibe when dining out. I called them to see if I could make reservations and they suggested I go on Yelp and join the waitlist. Well, this was the first time I used the waitlist option and it worked out very well from the notification on my phone down to letting me know how many more people was ahead of me in line and when to check in with the hostess. I finally arrived and I must say the Ambiance was great!!! As soon as you walk in hearing good music that can always set the tone. Our table was ready and our waitress was so sweet and professional I would definitely ask for Jada if you visit. We all ordered something different to experience the menu and each plate was so good and the drinks was also good. If you are in the DMV go and check them out.

Yelp
Walked in on a Sunday, soon after the doors open. We sat at the bar. I ordered the catfish and grits. Very bland. I had to douse it up with Sugar There was a $5 glass of wine on brunch time. That was full and good Old school and chill hip hop music was playing. TBS on the TV playing the newest Terminator movie Place started to fill up by 12 No reservations but you can reserve yourself on a waitlist at the door or thru Yelp/Google

Yelp
We arrived on a Wednesday night and we're quickly seated. We went over the menu and received some awesome recommendations. We ordered the following Catfish and Grits French Toast and Chicken Blackened Salmon Side of Lamb Chops I personally ordered the French Toast a Chicken. I could have done without the chicken tenders. Those were just ok but the FRENCH TOAST!!! MY MY MY! That was DELICOUS. I loved the strawberries and blueberries. I'll definitely return and order these. Best French Toast I've ever had. The lamb chops were definitely seasoned but really good. My friends from out of town destroyed the catfish and salmon. He said he would definitely return for the catfish and grits. The salmon wasn't as seasoned as she'd like but said it was still good. I'm a fan for sure and I'll be back soon!

Yelp
I would recommend this place for the vibes and the food but it depends on your mood Here are a few tips don't arrive for brunch on Sunday until after 2pm Yes that sounds very late but I arrived solo and made a reservation for bar seating and I waited over an hour. That will be a first and last time doing that . Just as I was a block away heading to another establishment I receive a text that my table aka bar seat was ready. Secondly read the menu before arriving . One comes for vibes and cocktails but it would help to be ready for the server when he or she arrives. The host staff is adorable and kind. The dj was really good. Be prepared for some items on the food and drink menu to be sold out. For instance oxtail egg rolls sold out, they were out of orange juice for the tequila sunrise so my drink lacked sun and when I desired a French 75 the restaurant was out of sprinkling wine. So I guess the long wait and lack of some food items is part of the experience. It is fun environment For my meal I enjoyed chicken and French toast . It took a while to get bartender's attention. Now I see why. No ingredients Despite all this I am willing to give them a second chance next time I am in town.

Yelp
The food was fresh and amazingg! Their sweet tea was okay wasn't a fan of it. Highly recommend the grits and catfish that meal was DELICIOUS! Our waitress was very attentive and made sure everything was good. The spot is casual no need to wear heels, you're able to have a conversation, and there's music playing in the background along with tvs.

Yelp
Saturday brunch. Nice crowd, and I expected a wait, but seating was immediately available at the bar. The DJ was amazing, and I loved the vibe!! It's definitely a HipHop set, so it's mostly geared towards adults only. The deviled eggs were unexpectedly good. It's a hot/ cold and sweet and spicy treat. The Mumbo Shrimp was a great choice. It was decent size and perfectly cooked. The food was great. The vibe was perfect for what i was looking for. I would definitely be back.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try KitchenCray for some time and finally got to do so. I went on a Saturday around 3pm or so for their all-day brunch. With this, there was a DJ and sports were being played on the TVs. I didn't have a reservation and luckily I was alone so I was quickly seated. The overall ambience and atmosphere was OK, it was nothing special but it also wasn't anything bad. I'm not sure if they were short-staffed but my server also served every other table that was near me, which caused a delay in her coming to the table as often as I would have preferred but she was nice and did the best she could given what was required of her. For food, I got the Chicken and French Toast. The meal came with strawberries, blueberries, whipped cream, caramel, and vanilla sauce. I asked for all of my toppings on the side because I didn't want it to be overly sweet. Overall, the meal was everything I expected it to be and it was very filling. For my drink, I got a glass of champagne and the bartender added strawberry and blueberry and that's exactly how I drink my champagne so I loved that it was added without me having to ask! Though the first glass they brought out to me was a bit warm as if the bottle was opened straight from the shelf and not the fridge/cooler. The cost of the meal was reasonable. I will certainly be returning to KitchenCray to try out some of their other dishes.

Yelp
Made brunch reservations, got notification that table is ready. Got there, and table wasn't ready. Had to wait maybe 15 minutes upon arrival. This was the only negative. Once seated we had the pleasure of meeting our waitress, Jayda(Ashley, inside joke). She was above dope. She had an uber friendly personality and made us feel right at home. She made recommendations, and had the right amount of incremental time checks on my party. Food was delicious. Like some real southern brunch food. Ambiance was festive, they had a dj and everything. If you are adulting, you can hang around the bar and partake heavily in the festivities. Or you can do table service, like I did, and take in the scene from a distance. Either way you will not be disappointed. Almost forgot, they have one of those leaf wall backdrops with their name, so u can take your pictures. Jayda Rocks!!!

Yelp
The only reason I give this place 4 stars is because of the wait. I came with my partner around noon on a Sunday and we used the waitlist feature. For future reference, I believe they do reservations on Sunday for brunch so I would HIGHLY recommend doing that. Once we got to our table, the party really started. They have a DJ on Sundays that helps to set the vibe and the food is phenomenal. We started off with the hot honey wings and when I tell you we made sure to get every piece of meat of the bone... Next came our entrees. I got the crab omelette with the shrimp on top and my partner got the catfish and grits. The food was very well seasoned and the grits still have a hold on me to this day. I wish I could have taken a side home but it wouldn't have made it back on the plane. Their drinks are very well done and unique so if you have the time, definitely order one. Although the restaurant was short staffed, they did a good job making sure we were comfortable. I would definitely return and I'll be sure to make a reservation for their Sunday brunch.

Kera L.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try this place & it did not disappoint. We stopped by on a Sunday right around brunch & we sat right away. The DJ was a vibe, and the service was great. I definitely recommend it. The fish was fresh, and the grits were smooth. The drinks were okay, but i have no complaints. I'd absolutely go back!

Jazlyn G.

Yelp
Babbyyyy!! Where do i start? They have a DJ & The vibes is R&B Brunch for sure! Our server was so sweet & considerate. The food tho... 10 out of 10 . We got the chicken & french toast , the chicken deviled eggs & several mimosas. Unlike anything I've had before, the French toast hits different just trust me!

Xavier I.

Yelp
The service was solid and the ambiance had a good vibe to it. I had the famous chicken and French toast ($27). The presentation of the food was amazing but the same can't be said for the taste of the food. The French toast was okay but also dry and quite thin. The fried chicken was underwhelming. When Paying 27$ for French toast I expect the French toast to be challah or brioche because 27$ for what I got is not worth it at all. Also on top of item cost, tip, and tax, they also add a 18% service charge which is ridiculous. Wouldn't try again.

Thuy H.

Yelp
It was my first time here as I visited a friend in DC. Drinks and food were both great although the spinach was a weeee bit salty. I ordered the Watermelon-Rita and it was bomb. Would also recommend the crab fries!!!

Jah-Nice W.

Yelp
Loved, loved, loved, LOVED everything about this place!!! First of all, it's black owned! Secondly, the music playlist is bomb! Such a chilled vibe! Third of all, the food was delicious!!! We got here really early before they opened and it was a slight line, but not to bad (but even if there is a line or not the wait is definitely worth it!) I would honestly recommend trying this place out, 10/10 no doubt! Our server even attentive and really nice. And they are taking COVID precautions and checking temperatures and giving everyone hand sanitizer before you can even enter in the door.

Teri K.

Yelp
It hurts me to give this review because I wanted to loved this place, like 5 star love, but to me, it just didn't do it. Lets start with the positives; service: good, portions: money's worth; presentation: great, environment: comfortable & friendly. The food was okay. They Oxtail Eggrolls were a hit, they were really good! I also had the Lobster, Catfish. Shrimp, Crawfish on Mash, but it was delivered with grits; all good though, I still went with it. In my opinion, each kind of seafood was perfectly seasoned and cooked, however, when put all together, was just too salty for me. Unfortunately I ended up just not eating it. The server was more than accommodating and asked if I wanted something else, however, I declined. I'm not giving up on them though and will totally go back so I encourage all to do the same and give them a try.

Alisha M.

Yelp
Brunch at @kitchencrayhstreet . Started w| the deviled eggs & crab fries ...... WOWWWW ! The crab fries were well seasoned and the sauce was so creamy. The fries were crisp and sooooooo delicious! The deviled eggs were different but just as enjoyable. For entrees we got catfish & grits and chicken and French toast. When I tell you that was the best catfish and grits I've had!!!!! The grits were so thick and flavorful. The catfish had the perfect crunch and flavoring. The chicken and French toast was bomb as well. The French toast was sweet but not overly sweet. The chicken was crunchy and tasty. It was packed and the music was perfect. The also have the games on the so you don't miss any game play either. Service was good she seemed to have a lot of tables but kept my mimosas coming so kudos to her! I will definitely be back here. follow me on socials to keep up w| my food adventures @melrosemunchies

Yelp
Recently came here to support a friends game night. While here I had the mussels, crawfish fries and oxtail rolls. Of the 3, the mussels were the best. Everything from the sauce to brioche toast was bomb. The crawfish fries seemed like 2 different dishes. No cohesion. Just some crawfish dumped on fries. Maybe a sauce will tie them together? The menu mentioned a sauce but, maybe it got soaked up by the fries on the walk from the kitchen. Maybe just have 2 different apps. Fries and then the crawfish. Just a thought. Lastly the oxtail rolls. More beans and rice than actual oxtail. I was kinda disappointed. I will say our server was A+. She was friendly' knowledgable and very attentive. Her name escapes me but, she had the bomb locs! Will I visit again? Sure. There are other things to try!

Ashley C.

Yelp
I went here a couple weeks ago with high hopes after following the chef for so long. I've wanted to attend his brunches for years! I was both pleased & disappointed. I joined the waitlist for my table of 4 before leaving the hotel and was happy when I arrived to the small venue that I'd done so. However once getting to the host stand , to a host that was the opposite of friendly and welcoming, we realized I joined a waitlist for the wrong location! I was hoping that maybe the hostess would maybe honor my place on the other list since it was an accident but I understand why she didn't. That's not my gripe. My issue is that it took way too long to finish what should have been a 1 minute interaction with her, due to her repeatedly talking to others that were just walking in the door and starting conversations with them. When she finally asked that they allow her to finish talking to me, she had started 3 different conversations. I believe she was overwhelmed. She also seemed really young and just did not embody the role a hostess should.. which to me matters when your waiting over an hour.. When our wait was finally over, our server came quickly, as did our food. I was disappointed in the small selection of the menu and that the food on Yelp and even on their online menu was not available. When I asked I was told that different locations have varying menus. Anyway the food we DID get was delicious. Definitely recommend the crab fries! They don't skimp on the crab meat and the creamy sauce has a great fresh taste! The others in my party also enjoyed their food as well- which by the way have very generous portions. If I was only judging the food, it would be 5 stars no question! The restaurant is very small and packed. There's a cute patio but was not open while I was there probably due to how chilly and breezy it was. A larger building would suit this restaurant well as there's clearly a demand. There's also a DJ playing allllll the hits! Love the music but also veryyyy loud. If you are trying to have conversation on your visit, consider that. I would definitely go back to kitchen cray but a different location.

Camille C.

Yelp
Sunday brunch was pretty good. I liked the ease of service. I was able to walk in and get a table for two. They had Sunday football on and a great DJ. The food is pricey but the portion was adequate. My food didn't come out hot, as it was just warm enough to eat. Service was also pretty good. I would recommend trying this place, but I wouldn't necessarily have to go back.

Don D.

Yelp
This place was absolutely amazing. They don't take reservations but if you're there as soon as they open, you're pretty much guaranteed a seat. The customer service was good as well. Our waiter tended to our needs and very friendly. However, for the bottomless mimosas, we were not informed there is a $2 charge for different flavors... As an appetizer, I had the mumbo chicken wings. They were absolutely amazing. Perfectly seasoned and fried wings, with a beautiful crunch, and the most amazing mumbo sauce that satisfied my pallet. Next, I ordered the catfish and grits. The grits were amazing too. The seasoning and cheese made it so delicious. To top it all off, the crispy season Catfish made it worth every penny. Definitely a must try if you are in the DMV area.

Shay S.

Yelp
I ordered the seafood salmon via DoorDash and it was good. The packaging could have been better but imma stay on task. The food was well seasoned and you could possibly say it was seasoned too well. This restaurant is pricey but it's worth the money. You get plenty of food so you're definitely getting your money worth. I highly recommend this place. If you haven't tried it yet, please do.

Yelp
Arrival: This place is worth the visit!!!! Upon arrival, the host at the door was beyond warm, friendly, and professional. He did an amazing job at accommodating us and took COVID precautions to ensure that we were all wearing our masks before entering the building. In addition to this, he provided us with hand sanitizer and checked our temperatures. Safety is big for me so I appreciated a place that followed it. Service: Our waiter was great but overworked. Leading to his attitude changing at the end of the service. While I can understand frustration of managing a lot of tables at the same time, maybe this place might want to explore hiring more staff. He simply could not manage the work and at times, we waited ridiculously long to get everything from a glass of water to a bag to put our to-go plates in. It kind of prolonged our time there and made a good day feel overwhelming. Atmosphere: The DJ stole the show!!!!!! I especially appreciated all of the amazing hits he played back to back and the way his mixes set the tone. The restaurant is small and guest were nicely spaced but having the music made the moment very special. Way to go!!!! Cleanliness: Overall, the restaurant was very well kept and clean. I can tell that they worked hard to upkeep things and it indeed shows. I did not do a bathroom visit, strangely lol but the next time I visit, I'll be sure to report. Drinks: So meh! I've had better drinks for less and my ciroc pineapple was nothing to rave about, alcohol levels were good but the juice added didn't do anything to support or enhance the flavor. It was just a basic juice I probably didn't need. Food: I ordered the chicken and French toast, with the help of yelpers, and I have to say that the chicken was my highlight...the French toast was not. It felt as if I was eating dried toast with caramel syrup all over it and it lacked moisture and flavor. I wasn't sold on it at all and actually got sad that I craved it so badly and failed at the flavor test. I would probably order the catfish and grits next time because my friend raved about it. But I won't order the French toast because I've had way better at other places. Overall, I enjoyed this place and I will keep supporting it!!!

Imani W.

Yelp
Zero for hospitality. I made a reservation 45 mins before arriving and had to wait an hour to be seated. I also noticed that people weren't using the outside seating. I asked the hostess if it was an option and she said yes. Most people don't want to sit in 95-degree weather, but the option still could've been presented to us. Once people heard her say they could sit outside, she started seating guests outside that weren't even on the waiting list before those who were already waiting. We ordered the mambo wings which did not taste like mambo sauce. It tasted like bbq wings lol. Although they looked good you could certainly tell from the looks that it wasn't mambo. It was more like sticky bbq wings. The chicken was cooked well, but I'd have to give it a 2/5 for the sauce. I had the blackened salmon over mashed potatoes and the salmon looked normal, not blackened. The entire dish just lacked flavor, I was kinda disappointed. I'm not even a person that asks for salt and pepper at a restaurant but today was the first. I actually had to go inside to get it myself because the waitress was taking too long. The food was barely lukewarm. It took us 25 mins to get our check because the waitress never came back to check on us. I had to get up and ask someone else to bring it. Truly an underwhelming experience.

Melody D.

Yelp
This place is absolutely delicious. During my trip in DC I decided to check out a Black Owned restaurant and I was NOT disappointed. My boyfriend & I both ordered a grits dish (shrimp & grits and blackened salmon with grits) along with a mimosa carafe and I swear I didn't want to leave. I can't wait to come back when the weather is nice so we can vibe outside and try out their hookah too!

Eve W.

Yelp
Food? Fantastic. Drinks? Strong! Atmosphere? Fun, youthful, classy, and unapologetically BLACK. Service? Lovely. The food was bussin' as the tiktokers say. They made something as simple as french toast and fried chicken (no bones) seem like something new. The flavors were complex without being overwhelming. I don't like to exaggerate, so believe me when I say, this place is worth going to if you're traveling in the area or live here. The food, is so good. I wanted to go back here again during my short birthday trip, but we had to try other places. I'm still thinking about the french toast that I got. This place serves the same menu all day too, so if you wanna have brunch at 7 p.m. like me and my friend did, go for it. I enjoyed the nighttime atmosphere. No idea what it is like during the daytime hours haha. Loved this place.

Amanda W.

Yelp
I've heard great things about this restaurant and I finally had the chance to try them. Parking can be difficult because it's located in a busy area of DC. Staff was friendly. This location isn't big. There was a DJ as well. We tried the deviled eggs with mumbo fried chicken on top. I would have preferred more deviled egg mixture but the combination of the two was delicious. Their mumbo sauce was good! Sweet and savory. The shrimp and grits were simple to me. A decent portion given but no wow factor.

Yelp
I've been following Kitchen Cray on Instagram for a long time, and I dreamed of eating here. I finally got the chance to visit while I'm here on summer vacation. I was not disappointed at all. I had the Crab BLT with tots was good. I don't eat bacon so I gave it my daughter she said it was sweet. Now my drinks I had I believe tropical Hennessy and a mango mimosa (not pictured), they tasted good but the liquor was weak no buzz whatsoever. My daughter had the Mumbo Shrimp, I tasted one and it's definitely something I could eat more of. My oldest had the Buffalo Fried Chicken and fries, she enjoyed it. The atmosphere, the staff, was all amazing. The music did not disappoint as well. I really wanted the crab grilled cheese maybe it's offered at the other location so when I come back hopefully I'll be able to try. But this is definitely a place to try.

Yelp
Kitchen Cray on H Street is a must visit for brunch if you're in the DC area. This was our first visit and it will definitely be a repeat next time we're in the area. We were greeted by very welcoming staff and a lively atmosphere. There was old school R&B and Hip Hop playing and patrons clearly enjoying their meals and the vibe. Even though it was lively it wasn't overly loud. The restaurant isn't very large with one main area with a bar but it does offer some patio seating. We did not have a reservation and although we were told it would be a 45 minute wait (party of 6), it only took 15. We were told that we would only have about 90 minutes since they were expecting a large party but it was more than enough time for us. We didn't feel rushed during our meal. We were seated in a corner looking out onto the patio. Monica was our server and she was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and provided excellent service the entire duration. Diamond also checked on us and was warm and friendly. Several of us ordered the Chicken and French Toast which was excellent! The chicken was fried perfectly, seasoned well and not dry. The French toast had a crispy exterior and soft on the inside. The caramel sizzle and fresh berries added an extra layer of flavor on an already great entree. Other items ordered included the Showtime Omelette, Hot Honey sandwich and the Blackened salmon over grits. The omelette came with shrimp and lump crabmeat and was very tasty. The salmon was delicious but those grits were the star of the show! So creamy and cheesy! The chicken sandwich did not disappoint also although it was a little too sweet for my friend's palate but the chicken made up for that. Our food came out within a decent amount of time leaving us plenty of time to savor our dishes and socialize. We ordered the carafe of strawberry mimosa which was delicious and was served over fresh strawberries and blueberries. One carafe gave each of us 1.5 glasses. Overall we really enjoyed our visit and would definitely be returning and recommending this establishment!

Yelp
I want a KitchenCray with a couple friends on a Sunday around 330. They do not take reservations, so we got on the list and it was about a two hour wait. Thankfully, we were able to find bar seating for three after a few minutes. Kitchen Cray is a really fun environment. The music is loud, it's definitely a vibe, and the staff is having a good time. It's definitely not a place to go to sit and talk. We ordered mimosas which were decent and the catfish and grits. Everything was pretty good it was just a bit expensive for the value.

Yelp
This place was lively to say the least. Make sure you get on the wait list before going (the party starts early here). Luve DJ playing music good music . The only negative was that their food delivery and drink delivery is not consistent. It took 20 minutes to get the cray punch and the island cooler, however they were on point!!! The wings were delicious and the fish and grits came out 1st they were amazing!!!! However the lobster mac and cheese came after the fish and grits were just about gone......(they were ordered at the same time). If you have a daybwhere you are in no hurry and you want to enjoy a nice vibrant environment this is the place to go.

Yelp
Mannnnnnnnn! Just go! Aight, so the best option is to waitlist through YELP, the timing is very accurate. DO NOT PARK directly across from the establishment, you will get a ticket so read the signs. Anyways, we had the salmon bites, mumbo shrimp, catfish and grits, shrimp and grits, side of eggs and two pitchers of mimosas. The salmon bites are so good I wanted to take some to go‼ The catfish and grits are really bomb too; it also comes with crab meat in it. The mumbo shrimps are enormous but are so worth it. everything we had was yummy and we can't wait to go back. Also, If you get flavored mimos , don't get the mango ; it's very sugary. OMG, I almost forgot the french toast... ITS PERFECT‼‼‼ The people are also super sweet and they work as a team. Kiona was so nice and even gave us suggestions on what to get since we're not from the area. The staff continuously check in with you host, bus persons and all; it was greatly appreciated!

Yelp
KitchenCray was not bad, the food was actually tasty but ridiculously priced, $30 for a burger is wild. The wait was kinda long but that's expected on a Sunday...now the music, probably was a little too loud, you literally cannot hear the ppl you came with. Lol 4 stars for volume

Yelp
Great brunch experience. I had the Shrimp n' Grits with Fried Lobster. Everything was amazing, from the food to the service. Highly recommended!

Yelp
This place is still popular w a waitlist so do come prepared to wait or check in first & run an errand. It's very busy and so are the waiters. They play music so don't attempt to have a real conversation. The grits were amazing and the eggs were definitely different. My guest had an omelette that was huge so that is a shareable item.

Yelp
A hard 4 star, maybe even a 4.5 star. All the dishes are Cray, Cray as in they were huge dishes. My boyfriend and I had the Catfish & grits, Crab Benedict, Chicken & French toast, and Ox-tail spring rolls. Let me tell you, I was blown away by the Ox-tail spring rolls! Tender Ox-tail, fatty, and crispy. One of the most unique dishes in the DMV! Now for the Chicken & French Toast, the chicken wasn't actual bone-in chicken... more like chicken tenders and they were very dry! The Catfish & grits and Crab Benedict were phenomenal though. Despite the dry chicken tenders, I would of been fine giving a 5 star because of those Ox-tail Spring rolls, but the price per dish is very high. If you're going to charge that much per dish then each dish has to come out perfect. Solid dishes here. Definitely get the Ox-tail spring rolls and definitely make sure you're ready to spend some moola!

Yelp
Okay KitchenCray! I was impressed as was my husband! I began with a strong mimosa. We had the oxtail spring rolls and they were So good it was ridiculous! We both had the french toast with fried chicken and we could only eat half the portions were so big! The french toast was cooked perfectly with the edges sweetened and topped with fresh strawberries and blueberries. The fried chicken was crispy and flavored perfectly! We absolutely will be returning! Kudos to you all! Staff was friendly as well!

Yelp
Had a great experience thanks to my server Payton! She was wonderful. The wings and Mambo Sauce were everything and they didn't do a bad Arnold Palmer for being a northern city . Ordered the French toast for dessert that they advertise as the "best ever" and it wasn't too far off. Had a couple more things on the menu I'd like to try so I think I will be making it back to this place.

Yelp
KitchenCray does not disappoint! It's November Black Restauafrant Week in the DMV and my date chose this spot! I've been wanting to check out this establishment for years. I've been following the chef since his pop ups store at stadium and event brunches. I'm glad a location opened in DC! While, the location looks like a sports bar vibe, the customer service and food delivers! First, As soon as walk in, they give you hand sanitizer and take your temp. You are informed that your table is only for 90 mins.. Our server (light skinned man with locs) was very attentive. I had the Henny strawberry lemonade and it was delicious. For my entree, I had the stuffed salmon. It was over mash potatoes. It was amazing!!!!!! I saw the chef and managers stop to speak to diners and check in on dining experiences. I can't wait to try the brunch or come back for dinner. The music was good and the restaurant was buzzing.

Yelp
Sooooo happy they came to H Street! Love to support black businesses, especially when it's sooooo darn delicious. Covid: Tables were socially distant, temperature checks at door, servers wore masks, and cleaned frequently. Food: we got the Buffalo shrimp, salmon crab meat lobster tail shrimp, and catfish shrimp crab meat and lobster tail. Both came with mashed potatoes and spinach. The creole sauce was a lovely addition to the meal. Each piece of seafood was fresh and super flavorful. I'm craving it now again! Vibes: great music and nice layout Service: both owner came to check on us and thanked us for coming. Our server was personable and attentive. Just go. You're mouth will thank you!

Yelp
Placed an order for pick up. First on the phone and the order was confirmed. They didn't confirm a name or the total price. When we arrived we were told that the order can only be placed at the restaurant and asked to wait another 15 mins. Our order consisted of oxtail spring rolls and the other was for a strawberry cake. It was disappointing that after confirming the order twice the wrong cake was provided for pick up. Instead was provided a pound cake. In times like this attention to detail and client orientation is important as people spend their hard earned money..

Yelp
Dirty tables, awful drinks, poor service. Food was good but every other element was poor. Would not go back, given the sanitation concerns.

Yelp
Fantastic service and tasty food. A bit on the pricey side, however the food is absolutely delicious. The owner was extremely accommodating when I reached out with questions and I will be visit the lanham location soon!

Yelp
Just go, that's all I can say. Although the service was a bit slow, the food is fantastic! Everything is so rich in flavor - from the mac and cheese to the deviled eggs! My husband thinks this is the best soul food he's ever had!

Yelp
First time visiting today with 2 friends from out of state for lunch. The Food was pretty good. The Mambo deviled eggs were delicious and the catfish and cheesy grits was decent. Our server Danell was awesome. She was friendly knowledgeable and hospitable. We also met the beautiful owner Crystal, who is the epitome of customer service. She greeted us, served us a cocktail and brought our food and always with a smile. And having a DJ playing music was an added bonus to the experience! One thing I didn't understand was why we were unable to have 3 separate checks. We all came in separately and wanted to pay separately but were not given that choice. However, we worked it out and enjoyed our time. I will definitely be back soon!

Yelp
My friends and I visited the H Street location this past Saturday and was truly disappointed. After dinning at the Lanham location our expectations were very high as that location did not disappoint. Two of us ordered the same dish as we previously did at the other location and the size portion was in no comparison, nor was the presentation even close. The food didn't taste bad, but it was warm, not hot to be just brought out. The meal was $55 which should have been $27. Two of our friends whose meal was $27 had larger portion sizes than our "Starving" meals per the menu. If we've never been to the Lanham location maybe our expectations wouldn't have been so high. It was almost as if we went to a totally different place with no affliction. Also, the 18% automatic gratuity was definitely an issue as our server only came to our table to take the order, bring the food/drinks and the check. No follow up at anytime to see if there was a need. The place was not busy, but yet she remained out of sight. Paying $94 for a meal that lack all that it should have been giving was truly disappointing. I wouldn't recommend this location and hopefully when we travel to Lanham this weekend it will give the service as it previously gave. We are still displeased!!

Yelp
I went here with some friends for brunch around 4:30pm. First impression they were rude nobody would acknowledge us when we came in. The security was extremely rude. Unfortunately our friend who's was extremely dehydrated was told she had to throw away her water. Honestly I couldn't believe it. The music was extremely loud!!! The server took a while to finally come to our table but we appreciated how quickly she responded to us telling her our friend desperately needed some water. She kept checking in with us & she didn't have it. The food was great . I have no complaints on the food . Very flavorful & savory. The food is what saved this review from being 2 stars . I would definitely come back but things like the blaring music & rude security would definitely have to improve for me or I would only get carry out moving forward.

Yelp
I decided to order a take out one night and picked up a side of Mac & Cheese to go alongside my turkey that I prepared at home. I wasn't impressed with the food at all. There was not enough flavor in that dish but it looked appetizing. Portion size was great. Would like to give this spot another try and dine in.
