Bittersweet to be posting this as they're closing for good in just a few days. If you get the chance though, get in there to try their legendary mackerel sushi before it's too late!!! Beautiful, simple, clean ambiance in a charming converted brownstone space. Also interesting to note that like 90% of the clientele was Japanese. Felt a little like being transported to an upstairs Kyoto restaurant! Their tuna donburi is an especially good deal, with many many pieces of fish for only $22.

Every dishes are amazing but potion is little small so we end up ordering a lot of things. Very cozy quiet place and perfect for people who wants authentic Japanese food. They got good selection of sake as well.

I had a very nice experience here. Everything we ordered taste delicious and delicately made. Environment was quiet and made me feel comfortable, which is so hard to find in New York. People working here were very nice and friendly. I recommend Wagyu Beef Donburi, Matcha soda and whatever dessert they have on the menu.

This small, authentic Japanese restaurant is a gem. Tucked to the side on 39th St, you'll have to be alert when looking for it, especially at night... because you just might pass it. Specializing in Japanese seasonal food, this is the non-vegetarian sister place of Kajitsu. The chef is Chef Abe, formerly of En Japanese Brasserie, and he doesn't disappoint. The service is meticulous and the quality is excellent, albeit the serving portions are authentically more Japanese (on the smaller side).

I love this restaurant!!! I have only been for lunch (when the place is called Kokage) and vow to go to diner (when it's called Kajitsu) sometime soon. Meanwhile I had their shojin bento with ume oroshi soba today. Everything tastes so impeccable, and the service is absolutely five stars too. I love that they now have cafe as well & can't wait to return for their dashimaki egg sandwich!! Kudos to both the chef(s) and super courteous staff as well. Please be there FOREVER!!

Portions are good. Tempura soba had huge shrimp tempura. Vibe is nice, service is above average but not as attentive as I would expect (eg. didn’t always refill water).

Had a wonderful dining experience here. The food was great, quite authentic. The place is very humble and not many seating which made it much more intimate than expected. Would recommend trying their chirashi - sashimi on rice. One catch is their dessert (mochi) takes a little while to come out, probably because it's made fresh? But just something to keep in mind

I felt like I was back in Japan. Ambience and service authentic; thoughtful, quiet & intimate atmosphere – rare in this part of New York. We believe the glass / area was made soundproof to block out noise from the street outside. Amazing green tea shop downstairs. Only downside was that I didn't like the duck in the hot soba; it was super gamey and texture off.
