Foliage-filled diner for Sri Lankan sharing plates accompanied by beers & spirits from the region.
"If you work in Soho and you’re the kind of person who likes to discuss strategy over sambol, then you’re going to love Kolamba. This Sri Lankan sharing plates restaurant is smack bang in the middle of things in Kingly Street and some of its flavours hit you smack bang in the face. Things like dry-fried beef chatti roast and crispy chilli cuttlefish are ideal chatting and chewing food, while parripu—red lentil with coconut milk and turmeric—is something we could eat every day. Space-wise it’s deceptively big with an upstairs best suited for lunch catch-ups and a moodier downstairs that screams date night and dessert." - rianne shlebak, jake missing, heidi lauth beasley
"Aside from a never ending supply of valium, we can’t think of anything more welcome right now than a Sri Lankan feast. Kolamba have two different varieties for you to enjoy at home: a Ceylon chicken curry and a jackfruit curry. Both come with rice, dhal, two types of sambol, and a couple of vegetable curries, plus chutney. Order from: Kolamba" - jake missing
"For:A festive mince pie alternative. They’re out there right now, hiding in plain sight. You might not recognise them straight away, but trust us, they exist. No, we’re not talking about Gareth Gates’ fans. We’re talking about mince pie haters. Sadly some people just can’t get on board with this sweet little festive treat, so instead we offer them Kolamba’s love cake. A sweet and spicy number complete with nuts, it’s a traditional celebratory cake in Sri Lanka and an excellent festive addition whether you’re pro-mince pie or not." - heidi lauth beasley
"Do you like listening to those bedtime stories for adults where Stephen Fry or Harry Styles whisper things like ‘shh, go to sleep, you are not a terrible person’? Yes? Then Kolamba will be right up your street. It’s an incredibly zen, Sri Lankan restaurant on Kingly Street that serves punchy flavours with a side of relaxation and foliage. Although the sharing plates can be a little hit or miss, dishes like the parippu and crispy chilli cuttlefish are proper bangers. This is how we imagine spas to be if you got a dry-fried beef chatti roast instead of a massage—a trade we’d happily make any day. " - Heidi Lauth Beasley, Jake Oliver, Rianne Shlebak
