Where to Eat in Pacific Beach

"Open from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. (and to 4 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday), this popular cafe has been operating from the same location near Crystal Pier since its doors opened in 1991. Breakfast is served all day, but there’s a lunch menu, too." - Candice Woo, Grace Cassidy

Google
This place is an absolute gem in the area! Looking for a good brunch place with my friend we found it and it was truly amazing! The location of it is absolutely amazing, right in front of the beach. The cafe itself has an amazing climate and is truly such a beautiful place to eat at. You would assume that with its location it would be one of the most expensive places in the area but it’s the complete opposite. The prices are very good and reasonable, way lower compared to the other places nearby, and the food you get is truly phenomenal. Me and my friend got the big breakfast combo and every part of the dish was absolutely delicious. The potato’s with cheese and onion were so good and the english muffin and french toast just made it better. Truly one of the best brunches I ever had. The workers and service there is also absolutely incredible and so kind! We ended up coming again for every breakfast while we were in the area. This place is absolutely wonderful, from its location to its amazing food and phenomenal service, I highly recommend!

Early morning pit stop for me and my family when we visit PB. Good breakfast and I love eating on their outdoor patio that faces the ocean. Customer service is excellent! Staff go above and beyond to make you feel welcomed. Highly recommend Kono’s Cafe. Gets busy and parking can be limited so plan accordingly.

Worth the wait. Super tasty and fresh breakfast bacon and cheese egg sandwich. The eggs were moist and was scrambled to perfection. My hubby ordered the egg sandwich with chorizo and gave it two thumbs up. There is indoor and outdoor seating. Secret tip. If you cross the walkway past the gift-shop you can sit outside with an ocean view. Sadly we didn’t notice this until we were done eating the second time we were here. Great location. Fun vibe. Beachy.

Wow. What a cool spot. I've been told for years to go to Konos. I thought the friend that recommended it was just being over the top. Now I see how cool it is. Even bought a tee shirt while I was there. Only suggestion would be to season up the potatoes a bit more. French toast was awesome and totally made up for it! Will be a regular stop while I'm in San Diego.

Google
PHENOMENAL. 🌅 The price is worth it, I don’t get to say this for any brunch places in SoCal. For a breakfast burrito or three jumbo pancakes it is about $10-$12. Great for friends and families hoping to grab something to eat before or after walking along the beach. My family (parents, two siblings, and two dogs) ordered: *Breakfast Burrito #1 - cheese and slices of sausage were the highlight *Breakfast Burrito #5 - generous amounts of jalepenos that was provided the right amount of spicy kick *BLT and A sandwich - toasted well with bacon that is crunchy, bagged chips on the side *Just Pancakes (3) - fluffy pancakes without too much butter *12 oz coffee - quite nicely brewed and paired well with all our entrees to share The total amounted to about $50 🏖️ Location wise - perfect. There are indoor and outdoor seating that are within walking distance of a great view. 😋 Food hits the spot when you’re craving brunch-like food that feels like home. 💖 The service was kind. There is a bathroom inside that is kept clean. God bless you all.

Google
Amazing burritos next to the beach. I get the egg burrito #5 . Chorizo and jalapeno. Is definitely spicy so if you can’t do spicy food opt of of the jalapeños. I did get it once without the jalapeños but is wasn’t the same so it spice is definitely needed in my opinion The service is fast and efficient and the portions are good. This is on my list when I’m in San Diego.

Google
Kono’s Cafe is the spot to be in San Diego. It’s such a great little beach cafe that serves perfect food time and time again. The portions are hardy and the prices are extremely fair. I had the chance to try all food in the photos below and everything was phenomenal. The line out the door should be seen as a badge of honor because despite being long, everyone in line was so happy. I don’t mean to sound extra but literally everyone in line was just vibing because they knew they were getting Kono’s. The food comes out piping hot and the service is extremely fast. I recommended getting the avocado burrito with whatever meat you want. They can make pretty much whatever you can think of. The seating is some plastic chairs and tables which although it isn’t luxurious by any means, you are coming to Kono’s for the food not the ambiance. I can’t wait to go back! Thanks!

OMG the best breakfast I have had in a very long time. I recently had to come home for my dad’s funeral. One the last day on the way to the airport my bestie brought me here for the best breakfast of my life. I am a SD native and had never been here but now every time I come home this will be my go to. ❤️

Yelp
Out for a city hike with a friend and we stopped in. It's a small place with only a few stools. But... we we're greeted with a huge smile and our drinks were served quickly and were tasty. It's not a hang out place but it 100% worth stopping in.

Yelp
We came in for breakfast and dined inside. The staff was friendly and there were options to eat inside, take out, or sit in the patio. We got pancakes, French toast, potatoes, a veggie scramble and one of the breakfast combo plates. Food came out quickly, fresh, and tasted delicious. Personally, the pancakes were a bit dull for my taste, I would not order again. The kids loved them though! The French toast was better than the pancakes, in my opinion. The potatoes were awesome- Packed with flavor and lots of cheese! They also have Tabasco available for customers, which is always a must have for me. I highly recommend the veggie scramble. That was the best thing that I had for breakfast during our vacation.

Yelp
Love this place. I have passed this place walking on the boardwalk so many times and I regret not trying it sooner !! Breakfast burrito #5 added potatoes and this is a huge burrito split this with my sister And an order of the French toast. Everything was amazing no complaints about this place at all. Staff were great big smiles on their face food came out fast and made to order. A couple of tables inside to eat and outdoor area facing the beach to eat as well. Clean inside and outside. Not sure if the coffee shop is connected with them bc we paid seperate but the California mocha was PERFECT I don't always get lucky with coffee shops here on pacific beach but this was so good. Can't wait to come back

Yelp
There was a long line when we arrived so we grabbed a menu and was ready to order when we made it to the register. Find a place to sit after you order - inside, the adjacent patio or across the way along the water. They'll bring your food to you. Cheese wasn't listed as an ingredient on the menu, be sure to ask. One of our party is allergic to dairy and overheard someone else in the party say no cheese and asked about it being in her dish. Good thing. Reasonable prices and generous portions. We got our food pretty quick. Great customer service. For those that are not aware, street parking.

Yelp
We came around 12:30 pm on a Sunday and the line was out the door and around the corner! It took around 45 mins to order but the food came out quickly in about 5 mins. Decent amount of indoor seating with a small outdoor patio overlooking the beach but it was full so we had to sit inside. My sister and I shared the breakfast sandwich and big breakfast #2. The portions were huge and the food tasty, we couldn't finish and were stuffed! The prices were very good as well. Overall, an affordable and delicious spot for breakfast on the beach but I don't think I'd be willing to wait in line again.

Yelp
A cute little homey breakfast spot right on the beach! Came here on a Sunday around 12:30PM and the line was out the door and wrapped around! Waited around 45 minutes to order but food came out quickly, about 5 mins! We sat inside as outdoor seating was sadly full :( the view looked pretty. My sister and I shared the big breakfast #2 and bacon breakfast sandwich. Portions were huge and the food was delicious, especially the potatoes. Very affordable prices as well! Solid spot, I would come back if I was in the area and willing to wait in that line again lol

Yelp
We came to have a late breakfast here on a brisk morning. The line to order went by quickly, & we ordered two scrambles. I had no clue we had access to such a view! this little patio is hidden behind a gift shop but well worth the short walk across the pathway. The restaurant has seating inside too but it's smaller and how can you say no to being outside? We ordered a sausage and a bacon scramble which both came with an English muffin. We also got fresh OJ and a lemon poppyseed muffin. When I tell you these plates are STACKED! They were! It was all cooked to perfection with potatoes and we added jalapeños. We couldn't finish our food so we had a nice little lunch ready for us later. The view of the pier / beach tho? Made me smile, I loved it. I

Yelp
Beautiful views and great food with huge portions. We had to wait in line, but it was worth it. Parking is limited nearby, so try to find street parking. Service was quick and everything came out fresh. Definitely a spot I'd return to next time I'm in San Diego

Yelp
I was so excited to try this place out since I've seen it all over social media and everyone says this is the spot to get the best breakfast burritos in SD. We came on Saturday at 9:30 AM and there was a long line, but thankfully it went by quickly. We ordered: - Egg Burrito #5: The burrito came out piping hot, which was great. We felt like the all the ingredients were incredibly underseasoned and bland. A ton of eggs, but not enough chorizo. - Big Breakfast #1: Really basic breakfast food. Not much to comment on. Parking is difficult, as with most places in PB. Service was fast and food is cheap with ginormous portions. Place has a beachy ambience, but just go eat your food outside to enjoy the view! Unfortunately, I will not be coming back.

Yelp
You will ever Find a breakfast place like this anywhere in the USA AND on the beach like this. You can order your food and then sit on the pier overlooking the surfers . Absolutely a local spot . If you wanna "Rubber neck" and people watch this in the spot and...1000% the biggest portions ,cheapest ,most Delicious ,filling breakfast spots you'll ever eat... ask for Martin (manager) he's been there 28 yrs. That should explain how good this place is that there's been an employee selling breakfast food on the pier for that long. It's been open that long !!! and it's been extremely successful that long. Why... I've been eating there for 30 yrs ...If it ever came up for sale, I would sell everything I have and buy that place. Make the drive to Pacific Beach!! Go there!! Now!! You'll thank me later!! Cheers!!

Yelp
Super friendly staff! Limited indoor seating but two patios and one overlooking the beach! Beautiful views! The food is excellent. Eggs cooked perfectly. Love the French toast in pancakes! The potatos are amazing!!!!! Do not sleep on them! Great spot on the beach!

Yelp
It seems like my friends that visit always stay in Pacific Beach. Because of this I have the same stock breakfast recommendation. Just go to Kono's and get a seat overlooking the ocean. There isn't a better combo of food, ambience, fast service, and reasonable prices anywhere. I've tried nearly everything on the menu and am yet to be disappointed. Don't be scared by the line. It moves fast and the people watching is captivating.

Yelp
This spot has been on my list to try since moving to san diego. A friend invited me out for brunch and suggested this place and i was excited that i was finally getting to try it. This is located by the beach. We went in november so it was a bit chilly. I was torn between getting a breakfast plate, a burger and pancakes. I ended up with a bacon cheeseburger (added a fried egg) pancake and potatoes on the side. The burger was perfectly cooked medium well for me. Very good burger. I had asked if i could just order one pancake since i didnt think i could eat 3. I am so glad i asked because one pancake was huge! The side of kono potatoes was a huge portion can definitely be shared. You order your food first and then you have the option of sitting indoors, outside of the place, or across the way facing the beach. Even though it was nipping cold, we decided to sit by the beach to get some sun rays. The staff here are very nice. They accept card and cash. I did not use the bathrooms are so i cant say if they have baby changing stations. They do not have a parking lot, so try your luck with street parking. Beachview. Pancake. Breakfast burger. Great company. Can't get any better than that!

Yelp
What a great experience we had here at Kono's Cafe. On my way to drop my cousin and my buddy's at the CBX Airport Crossing, we decided to have an early breakfast here at Kono's Cafe before getting to our destination. Upon entering we got greeted by Raul at the counter, right away he pointed out the menu to us and pointed us to the locals favorite. It's a cool, clean and cozy joint right on the boardwalk overlooking the ocean beautiful scenery. The food what great and not overwhelming but just perfect. Overall this place was awesome. Gracias a Los cocineros de Kono's Cafe, sígale echándole ganas amigos.

Yelp
2nd time I've visited location and I can tell ya the food has been consistent! I loved it the first time I came and definitely loved it this second time. Friendly service and once you order, the food comes out QUICK. Expect to wait about 30 min in line just to get your order in, though. Luckily, they have a separate coffee cart where you can order coffee from. Helps pass the time when in line This time around, I ordered the Egg Burrito 5 which consists of chorizo, jalapeños, avocado, green pepper, onion, cheese, and their salsa. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED if you like spicy.
google avatar

Carlos R.

Yelp
I just ate here for the first time and let me tell you everything I ordered was a 10 out of 10. The potatoes were overly delicious!! Please go here everybody and give them a try. Be warned you may have to wait and it will be a line but it's because the food is good. Service was outstanding by everybody who worked there whom I interacted with too. Nice lil spot by the beach.
google avatar

Yelp
Craving a breakfast burrito? This place has it for you! The only downside is that this place is very popular! There was a bit of a line outside on a late Saturday morning, but the wait was worth the hefty burrito and it definitely hit the spot! The eggs were not dry, perfect amount of avocado and pico de gallo. Since the place is next to the beach, I recommend getting it to go and sitting on a spot in the sand or out on one of the benches. There was seating inside the cafe if outside is not your fav (but that's crazy since you're next to the ocean!) or if you prefer the porch seating. The waiter/waitress will come to you with your food once you order.
google avatar

Karen Marie Y.

Yelp
Absolutely "Skibdibidi Seegma" according to my grandchildren! Best breakfast place in San Diego! Me and my husband have been coming here for years, and the food never gets old! 10/10 recommend!!!
google avatar

Kelsey K.

Yelp
Really cheap fast breakfast right on the board walk. You actually wait in line to order at the counter and they will bring the food out to you. It's very small inside and they only have one register so it's very normal for the line to be out the door anThe line moves very fast.
google avatar

Jacob R.

Yelp
(5 out of 5) This place is great. When you come there will be a line, don't worry it goes quick and it worth it! Great bang for you buck breakfast, if I was a local this would be the spot I go to the most, me and my fiancé ate for around 20$ and had a bunch! Of food, there konos potatoes are amazing and the ambiance is just great, right on the beach in the very lively pacific beach, if you come I can promise you won't be disappointed! When you come tell them Rothyy sent you!

Yelp
Have been trying to Check this spot out for some time but the line is always super long! Monday morning around 11 the line was equally long but we took a chance and stopped by, after ordering we didn't want too long for the food to come out which was nice Portions are very generous for the price which was super nice and everything was pretty good! The Kono's potatoes are covered in cheese and cooked with peppers and onions, the bacon egg scramble was similar and also pretty good! Would definitely come back to try their yummy looking burritos

Jackson P.

Yelp
Absolutely amazing service and food! We ate here every morning of our trip because of the food and service we were provided!
google avatar

Allison C.

Yelp
A great breakfast spot right in front of the pier that you really need to try! I got the veggie scramble and wasn't expecting anything crazy but they put in these peppers (maybe poblano) that added such a great kick and made it so unique! Also, I asked the person taking my order to take out the cheese given I can't have dairy and he immediately asked me if I wanted them to take out the milk in the eggs since that's how they usually made their scramble. I love how he caught on to my dietary restrictions and was so accommodating.
google avatar

Melanie M.

Yelp
Way too hyped up. Came here labor day weekend which was a bad idea. Waited 1 hour for a mid burrito. I got the burrito #3 and it was not good. Definitely needed salsa it was so dry and bland. After I ordered, it did come out after about 5 minutes. Glad it wasn't $20. 2 stars for food coming out fast and it was hot so I knew it was made to order.

Nichole M.

Yelp
We ate around 8:30 a.m. on a Tuesday morning during summer there was no line the day before there was a line down the street so we got really lucky. Everyone enjoyed their food the service was fast the coffee was good but if you do not like crunchy bacon ask them to not make it crunchy because all four of our bacon was overdone. Two of us got the pancake breakfast and two of us got the French toast breakfast both were good. Service is fast. They do put cheese in their eggs but they don't say that on the menu just an FYI.
google avatar

Erica G.

Yelp
Stopped by on Christmas day while vacationing in San Diego. A cute little beach-side coffee/snack shop with a large variety of coffee and non-coffee drinks. I got a latte which was a little bitter, but it was fine overall. My husband got a drip coffee, which I tried, and it was bitter too. Friendly service and a overall good experience.
google avatar

Kimmy B.

Yelp
We came here the first morning of our vacation and were so blown away by the quality of the food and the service that we came back every morning after too! Their entire staff was pleasant and smiling; we felt very welcomed. Their French toast is thick and tasty. Their bacon is fresh and crispy. Their eggs are fluffy and hot. Thank you so much! Definitely recommend!
google avatar

Janey M.

Yelp
Worth the wait in line . If you're ever in San Diego, you have to stop and get a breakfast burrito at this place. They have indoor and outdoor seating. Food with a view. Got the bacon and egg burrito bomb.com. And the bacon burger

Yelp
Family-owned joints like this, that have been around for decades, often become so beloved that their reputation precedes them far outside of their supposed sphere of influence. Case in point: I'd heard of Kono's Cafe all the way back home in Portland, so I knew we were in for good things here. Queue up to order: there will be a line, but it moves fast enough to not be an issue, and slow enough to allow you to whittle down your selection before ordering. I had the Kono's Burger (fantastic! if I don't need to ask for steak sauce, that says something!), my wife had the chorizo breakfast sandwich, and the rest of our party of friends had...other stuff that I didn't pay attention to. Nobody left hungry or dissatisfied, I can tell you that! There isn't any "service" other than the interaction with those at the counter, but even that brief encounter was jovial and welcoming; the owners and employees here seem happy to be there and to serve, which is always a plus. But hey, if I worked on the San Diego coast, I'd probably like my job more, too! I also dig the surfer vibe they've got going on here. It really ties everything together. Very recommended, and lives up to everything good I'd heard about the Kono Cafe! Would return in a heartbeat!
google avatar

Yelp
Don't let the line deter you! It goes pretty fast and is worth it! We got here at 8 am on a Sunday and the line was just out the building and there were still a few tables open inside. When we left around 9 it was wrapped around it. So earlier the better. I got the veggie scramble and my hubs got big breakfast 2. We ordered a bagel with fruit for our kiddos to split since we'd have a lot of food to share and were so sweetly surprised when they also brought us a Mickey Mouse shaped pancake to share. What?! It was such a sweet gesture and the kids were so happy. Wow the food was delicious, huge portions, and didn't break the bank. We actually brought home leftovers, it was that much. The staff is so kind and helpful. And oh my gosh the coffee!! Even the decaf tasted like a pour over. I would come here for breakfast, I'd come here for just coffee even. We could not say enough good things about this place. The one thing I will say is the veggie scramble was a little spicy- which isn't a critique because I should've known that from all the peppers in it. On the big breakfast, the bacon was perfectly cooked and my husband could not stop talking about how good his breakfast was. 10/10, highly recommend. We will be back.
google avatar

Marion W.

Yelp
I'm giving this place because the prices can't be beat for the location & amount of food. Crowd: locals (you know that means it's good!) Food: go for the burritos!! The quantities are huge. It's not the most amazing food, but it's good for the price! Coffee: get it somewhere else! The place is small, you order at the cashier and they bring you your food - you can go sit at the patio by the ocean, on the other side of the street. Tough to find a spot, but worth it. The people working there were alllll super nice and helpful! I would go back, but I would NOT get coffee there, not good. Unless you like dinner type coffee.
google avatar

Starla N.

Yelp
We walked up and the line was out the door but it went fast which I was not expecting. The place is small but they have outside seating as well and people were gratuitous and when they finished eating they got up for others to sit down. The food was delicious, I got the breakfast sandwich and my husband got the burrito #3 both were . Only suggestion for the burritos would be a salsa of some kind. Other than that definitely recommending Kono's
google avatar

Mary S.

Yelp
Food was absolutely amazing!! Would recommend to anyone. We got one order and split it into 2 places for $1 more, and it was plenty for 2 people. The inside was small but clean. They had water cups set up so anyone could go and get water, which was very nice! Line was long but worth it.

Arlene A.

Yelp
Food is amazing big portions service is Good and vibes are amazing I saw it on Tik tok and came before work
google avatar

Kelekolio M.

Yelp
Came around 10 am and there was already a line out the door. It was also sprinkling so no outdoor seating was available. The line actually moved faster than I thought and we were able to put an order in at the front. The seating inside is quite small and limited. I ordered the breakfast burrito #5 with chorizo in it. The size of the burrito is pretty big and satisfied my appetite. The flour tortilla is thick and cooked well, and the chorizo, bell peppers, and eggs filled the burrito quite nicely. However, it was really hot and it sat inside my stomach hot as well. For the side of potatoes, they looked really good but they are not seasoned at all not even with salt or pepper so it didn't really have any flavor. Overall, the location of the cafe is nice and the burrito is good for the price you pay here.
google avatar

Tiana P.

Yelp
Great location and decent food at a VERY reasonable price! Lots of breakfast options here, and super affordable especially considering the amount of food that they give you. I just got a simple breakfast and it was okay, lacked a little bit in flavor but it was a huge serving. There was a long line here when I went, but it moved pretty quickly. There's also a lot of seating on the inside since it seems like most people like to take their food to go and eat it beachside.
google avatar

Jill E.

Yelp
An absolute hidden gem right by the board walk in Mission bay. The prices are so reasonable, especially considering the amount of food you get. My friend and I got the veggie scramble with tons of veggies and some green chilies, potatoes and an english muffin. It was easily enough for two people and maybe even three and the cost was $16. One got a breakfast burrito and another a plate with French toast and eggs. Burrito was huge as was the other plate. I really recommend splitting something. They also have lunch. the line out the door was almost continuous. Small inside but they have a patio with seating around the back. The food came out quickly and no one seemed to care if you sat and visited,
google avatar

Rebecca C.

Yelp
The breakfast burritos here were pretty decent. Nothing out of this world, but they were heavy and very filling. It lasted me two meals. I'd say the salsa gave it the most flavor and life; without it, it's a bit bland.
google avatar

Justine C.

Yelp
Heard about this spot through TikTok and was intrigued! It was right around the corner from our hotel which was another sign to check it out. The person taking our order was super friendly and quick. I ordered the chorizo sandwich which consisted of chorizo, egg, cheese, tomato, and mayo on an English muffin along with fruits. My boyfriend ordered the egg burrito #1. We got our order right away and sat outside in the patio. We completely missed the other patio section across the spot that faces the ocean front so you'd have a beautiful view while you ate! All in all, this spot is a must try!
google avatar

Joshua A.

Yelp
Just visiting Pb and came here to get breakfast. There was a slight line but overall the service was quick and the servers were very nice. I was waiting inside when they told me to choose a spot. They told me they would bring out what I ordered. I chose the spot with view overlooking the ocean. Once I got what I ordered I had to dig in. It's simple but very much aesthetically pleasing. Eggs and bacon are to be expected. Bacon and potatoes with cheese were oily but just the right amount. The English muffin was toasted well and it was great how they already layered the butter on it. Lastly, the toast had just the right amount of sweetness and powdery goodness to it. Overall I would say a great breakfast spot for the value. What I ordered would be perfect for an instant hangover cure.

Yelp
The staff was super friendly and the food was delicious and quick. I really liked their egg scramble and the kono's potatoes was delicious as well! They had a really nice outdoor seating area that overlooked the beach. Will definitely be back.

Yelp
Always bring visitors here :). Great view, delicious food at a reasonable price. PB staple

Yelp
Going to Kono's Cafe in Pacific Beach, San Diego is always a treat. Their food is fresh and amazingly good! Their menu is small, yet packed with delicious options to satisfy your appetite. The establishment is small, with limited seating, but they also provide with an outstanding outside dining experience overlooking the ocean on a raised deck, above the pacific beach. When you want something fulfilling and well within your budget, Kono's Cafe is a must!! (See more @ellis_genx (TikTok))

Yelp
WOW! The previous reviews that we read before deciding to stop by Kono's this morning were spot on. The food was great. The service was quick. And the location? RIGHT off the beach at Crystal Pier! Perfection. My best friend and I are in town celebrating 20 years of friendship. I ordered the breakfast sandwich (as offered, no alterations), and she ordered the Big Breakfast #2. We finished everything and were so pleased. I also had the fruit cup. Mmmm... delicious. If you're in the area- stop by. You won't regret it! (The coffee stand just past the patio was good too. A little pricey, but perfect for washing down the breakfast sandwich - I had the iced Milky Way Mocha)

Yelp
Great place at Pacific Beach has a deck sitting with an Ocean view. Food is delicious. I had a Veggie Egg Scramble. Service is very good. Cashier is kind and friendly. I customize my order and came out very good. If you down in Pacific Beach check this place out.

Yelp
San Diego offers neither the plethora of Taiwanese and East Asian options of LA's San Gabriel Valley nor the vibrant desi scene of the Bay. But there are a few bright spots in the city's offerings, including what I was told to be a competitive breakfast burrito scene. Kono's serves a number of varieties of the same in a "surf shack" type setting right next to Pacific Beach, providing a great outdoor setting to enjoy your burrito. I went for the number 2, which included eggs, cheese, and a very generous portion of green chili. I could have used a bit more cheese, or some hash browns for added crunch, but the salsa on the side was excellent and did add a nice kick to the burrito.
