The Best Ice Cream Shops in San Francisco | Eater SF

"The South Asian ice cream scene in the Bay Area is outstanding. Priti Narayanan and Madhuri Anji’s San Francisco outpost is the latest entry into the mix, the second offspring of the Oakland-born business. Try the banana ice cream paired with gulab jamun bites. Or, on the more Eurocentric side of things, the cake batter-infused Fairy Glitter is sure to make any gloomy day a bit brighter." - Paolo Bicchieri

The Best Asian Dessert Spots In SF

"Koolfi Creamery’s Indian flavors like mango lassi, chili guava, and kulfi can’t be found anywhere else in SF. And since you’ll probably experience decision paralysis while staring at the many rotating options in the display case, go with the flight of five mini scoops. The counter-service Financial District spot has a few tables out front, so you can quickly hunker down before you’re forced to lick your hand clean of melting tamarind sorbet." - julia chen 1, patrick wong, ricky rodriguez

The Hit List: New San Francisco Restaurants To Try Right Now

"This San Leandro-based ice cream shop now has a downtown location thanks to the city’s Vacant to Vibrant program. Steer all walking meeting routes here for their rotating selection of Indian flavors, which are unlike anything else found in SF. The mango lassi is creamy without feeling heavy, and the guava has a hint of chili that hits in the back of your throat. One that’s always on the menu is the “Klassic Koolfi,” a pistachio-laden stunner. Because indecision will definitely plague you when trying to choose among the eight flavors staring you down from the display case, go for the flight, which comes with a sampling of five mini scoops in cups. " - julia chen 1, ricky rodriguez, patrick wong

Koolfi makes an amazing vegan chocolate ice cream! I'm lactose intolerant and love chocolate so I've tried every ice cream shop's vegan chocolate and Koolfi's is one of the best. It's made with coconut milk but does not taste like coconut, there's plenty of cocoa flavor. The ice cream was the perfect smooth, creamy texture and not ice-y at all. I tried a sample of the Guava with a hint of red Chile which was fruity and tasty though I didn't detect any spice in my small sample. The kind employee was friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about all of the menu items. They added a piece of the dosa cone to my ice cream so I could taste it - would be a nice lentil-y background flavor when paired with any ice cream. Excited to try more sorbet flavors and a savory treat and support this queer and woman-owned business. This ice cream spot is a bit hidden away and while there's no seating in the store there's plenty of tables and chairs outside and free wifi - the perfect place to relax with your treat.

Koolfi is an Indian and LGBTQ+ owned ice cream shop located in one of the Salesforce building. The owners were super friendly and consisted of a lady and her mother. They were so nice, and it was so endearing seeing the mother support her daughter and explaining the flavors and options on the menu. They have a variety of unique flavors. I had their gulab jamun sundae with a scoop of the Klassic Koolfi (Malai Kulfi) and one scoope of the jackfruit coconut flavored ice cream. The gulab jamun sundae consists of two warm, fried balls of dough drenched in a sweet syrup with one scoop of your choice of ice cream on top. This was my favorite! I have had gulab jamun before and always think it pairs well with cold ice cream on top, and I really like the Klassic Koolfi flavor, which had pistachios, walnuts, cardamom, rose water, and saffron. The jackfruit coconut flavor tasted exactly like its name. As a Viet who loves jackfruit, I really liked it, and it tasted very reminiscent and familiar to many of the cold desserts we have! You can really taste the jackfruit which has a sweet but tart taste. There is no seating inside, but there is plenty of outdoor seats. Overall, I would come back to try their other unique flavors and support their small business.

I hosted a South Asian get-together at my house and reached out to Priti and Mads from Koolfi Creamery to provide the dessert. From the beginning, they were incredibly responsive and helpful in planning the perfect dessert experience for the event. They arrived an hour early to set up, ensuring everything was ready. The ice cream they served, with a delicious Indian twist, was a huge hit with everyone! Their attention to detail and professionalism made the experience seamless and enjoyable. I highly recommend Koolfi Creamery for any event—especially if you're looking for something unique and flavorful in San Francisco.

I am an ice cream fiend. No doubts on that! I had eaten Indian ice cream waaay back in an Indian shop on Valencia in the Mission. It was good! Which is why I searched and found Koolfi! This Vacant-to-Vibrant pop-up of East Bay’s Koolfi Creamery offers delicious Indian Ice cream using Strauss Creamery milk. There are vegan options too. I got a double scoop with Lotus & Rose and the traditional Masala Koolfi flavors. Clean tasting. No gummy residue on the tongue. Little chewy bits in the Lotis & Rose scoop. Yum!! The Chief Creative Ice Cream Maker used to be a City Engineer! Now she makes ice cream that she reminisces about from home. Best of luck to this women-owned business!

This is one of my favorite ice cream shops in the bay, and I was so excited to hear they opened a pop-up downtown. The flavors are Indian-inspired and all delicious - my current favorites are the cherry chocolate, mango lassi, and klassic koolfi, but you can’t go wrong here. They’re very intentional about the ingredients they use, and everyone who works here is so nice. Highly recommend coming to check this place out!

Koolfi Creamery is a must-visit for ice cream lovers! Tried their Malai Kulfi served in a dosa waffle cone is an absolute delight. The creamy richness of the kulfi pairs perfectly with the crispy, slightly savory cone. They also offer a wide range of options for strawberry enthusiasts, coffee fans, and even those who enjoy fruit flavors. If you have a sweet tooth, don't wait, this is a treat you won't want to miss!

The ice cream flavours are really good! They really embody what they’re named after. Highly recommend getting the tasting flight with someone to share it with.

Wow oh wow!! This is the best koolfi I have ever had!!! I got the split scoop so I could try the jackfruit & malai. Tucked away so I'm glad they had a chalkboard sign on the sidewalk. Once you eat this, you can't go back to ordinary store bought ice cream.
