Kopp's Frozen Custard

It melts quickly because it is so fresh so eat quickly! But a single scoop was plenty! We decided not to drive and just take a few minutes to enjoy it totally. You can't visiting Milwaukee without a stop at Kopp's the daily change in flavors with real chunks Even though we ended up with a vanilla cup. My first Kopp's experience was memorable. There are several of the Kopp's Custard Stands around Milwaukee. They all have excellent custards which can expand your outlook if over indulged. The custard is very creamy and they serve. 100% recommend!

Out of the hundreds of trips we've made through Milwaukee over the years, this is the first time we've discovered Kopp's Frozen Custard. We were greeted by Suliany , who was personable, efficient, and helped us make our meal choices. She was knowledgeable about the various selections and spoke thoughtfully regarding our questions. The restaurant was clean and well organized and the large team of employees were on task with their various duties working with smiling faces. The restroom was clean, too. As for the food, it was fresh, tasty, and hot. There is no skimping on quality here. We ordered a grilled chicken sandwich, a hamburger, and onion rings along with a hot fudge/ raspberry malt and a strawberry malt. They were full of fruit and prepared with the appropriate thickness to pass comfotably through the straws,; not too thin, not too thick, but perfect. The dining area only held three bar tables, no stools, so you had to stand while you ate, which is not ideal for someone who is physically challenged. Almost everyone there had placed their orders to go. We dined in. In the summer months, they have a slew of concrete benches in a parklike setting here at their Greenfield location. If you're looking for a fastfood meal that serves quality meals and drinks, this is the place you should check out. They're wonderful, serving quality meals that all the others fail to serve. You won't be disappointed. We certainly weren't!

Absolutely massive burgers, perfect fries, onion rings are a little too rough for my mouth but it's fine for most people! The frozen custard flavors here are TO DIE FOR! CHEAP, BIG BANG FOR YOUR BUCK, AND FAST SERVICE!

What a fantastic place for a tasty treat or delicious sandwich. The grilled chicken sandwiches and the burgers are great. The custard is delicious. The staff is friendly and informative. There isn't a lot of seating, but you can sit in the courtyard or get it to go.

What an experience! We went late at night and this place was boppin! One taste of their custard and I can see why. Soooo creamy and delicious. 🤤🫦💦

Everything was wonderful. Terrific, large sized burger that was so tasty. I got the onion rings which were better than the fries. And the Peach Melba custard was fantastic. If you’re an out of towner, there’s no place to sit unless it’s warm outside (no tables then). Just a few high tops with no seats inside. Loved the experience!

Kopp's is such a classic! I had never been to the Greenfield location before, but the building is so unique and cool. After a little research, I discovered it's designed in a modernist style--now I'm curious to dig more into its history. This location was busy, but what else would you expect from Kopp's? Everyone was there to get their fix, just like me. One thing I love about Kopp's is their flavor forecast menu, which changes daily. While my favorite flavor is tiramisu, it wasn't available this time, so I went with vanilla custard topped with bananas and cherry sauce. It was delicious! Feel free to steal my order--you won't regret it. (Pro tip: sometimes I switch the cherry sauce for strawberry sauce, and it's equally amazing!) The only tricky part was ordering. There are two separate counter areas with ordering stations, but the lines weren't super clear. Thankfully, everything turned out fine, and we all got our orders correct. I'll definitely be back for another treat soon!

We felt like a local, going to this burger and custard shop. We didn't know the system so everyone knew we were tourists though. No worries, we caught on quick. It was strangely busy for such a late night on a weekday. But we quickly came to understand that this wasn't just about good burgers and ice cream, this was a local hang out spot replete with folks lounging inside and out (though it was cold) and friends meeting up either coming from somewhere or going somewhere else... We kinda liked that. And in any case the burger we had was quite good. Messy. Super messy for sure. But also super good. And because the name of the place says custard we went back for that too (we had to go back because apparently you have to get in a separate line for that, etc... it's a whole thing). In any case, caramel apple custard is wonderful, thanks for asking... The whole experience felt very mid-west which is a good thing. Check them out if you're in the area. Get extra napkins...

TLDR - Kopp's is such a classic staple I don't know how I haven't rated it yet. Delicious! Portions are HUGE! Burgers are the size of your face! Always tasty the classic way with mustard, ketchup, grilled onions and relish. The restaurant is always clean, they have the same classic outfits from decades ago and the waterfalls outside and well known to young and old. The custard is on another level - so creamy and the flavors make you want to get seconds, thirds and fourths. I always love their printed custard flavor lists and seeing the giant size from the street, as it always draws you in AND makes you wanna come back for tomorrow's flavor.

Okurrrr the Internet did not lie about this one. When I say this was the best frozen custard I ever had, I meant it was the BEST FREAKING FROZEN CUSTARD I EVER HAD (all caps for emphasis and to get my point across.). If you're visiting WI, you cannot skip this place. My only regret is that I didn't go back for me. I dropped in to try their famous Giant Hamburger and Frozen Custard. I grabbed a cheeseburger with fries and the special of the day, the Birthday Cake custard, total was about $15.00. The signs don't lie - the burger was huge! The bun looked like a pancake, and the burger covered the entire circumference. It also tasted wonderful, like a classic drive-thru greasy burg that brings you back in time. The custard was excellent, the perfect blend of creamy, smooth and rich bliss that melted in your mouth. It had chunks of vanilla cake on top that were sweet and moist. It's my favorite custard I've ever had to date and I'll be dreaming of the way I can have it again. Not too long after my visit to Kopp's, I stopped by a couple places offering custard in my hometown. They just didn't hit the same. Kopp's is doing something so right. I can't recommend it enough.

I finally came back to this location! This location is notoriously busy on summer nights. The parking situation is a nightmare!! However despite these annoying occurrences, the ice cream/frozen custard is superb. We simply can't deny that it's so creamy and delicious every time. If I'm being honest, taking it home isn't the same. I'm always far more disappointed in the custard when I get it for the purpose of taking it home. It feels like it loses that soft creaminess that I enjoy. I think because this is so close to soft serve without really being soft serve, that having it in your freezer just isn't the same. I got the butter pecan in a cone and it was amazing! They have a nice outdoor area to sit in, but it's always extremely crowded. So we went across the parking lot and there was more space for kids to run around and a bench to sit on.

The custard here is really good and creamy. The burgers and fries are alright, huge portions but not anything incredible. The service was actually borderline rude, the guy taking our order was cutting us off and had an attitude for everything we asked about. Really interesting building design and decor for a burger place.

Fun experience and good custard. Did not try anything else on the menu. The sundae of the month (strawberry rhubarb) was huge and loaded. The flavor of the day (mud pie) was also good. Custard is creamy, smooth, and rich. The sundae took a little while to come out.

Literally iconic WI frozen custard! Lots of great flavors with 2 daily flavors. Don't be afraid to ask to sample them. And if you can't pronounce the name, it's probably delicious! Some super amazing monthly sundaes and shakes. (Pro tip: the large sundae is truly a two person order.) Also not to be missed, burgers and onions rings It's always busy. But they're super efficient so the line move quickly. Greenfield location loses 1 star for parking being a little crazy.

Great burgers, only reason it lost a star was the lack of any indoor seating. You have to stand and eat our sit on a bench.

Their outdoor seating is spectacular, but the Inside feels soulless and corporate. For how busy it gets the employees sure do get paid horribly. Im not a fan of the very limited selection of flavors day to day.

I've been coming to this location for 35 years and it still hits! It's a classic burger joint. Everyone in their crispy white uniforms working as one unit. I love to watch it all happen! My son has committed to letting kopps bring his first burger. He's a picker eating and once upon a time he ate everything. But when we get a kopps burger he's always drooling at the mouth from the smell! It was our family dogs last meal too. I'm telling you this place reminds me of family! The custard is our favorite in the city! The daily flavors don't disappoint. My boys are always asking for Kopps ice cream. If you're visiting from out of town, Kopps is a classic staple in Milwaukee county! This location has a nice grass area for kiddos to run around. Secret hidden tables in the trees too. Love this place!

We came for lunch on a Friday, and it was pretty busy. That being said, we didn't have to wait more than 10 minutes for our food. There is an outdoor seating area that is unexpectedly nice and tranquil. The burger was good and huge, and the sundaes were enough for a family of 4 to share. I'm only giving 4 stars though because the custard didn't actually have much flavor and moreso relied on the smooth texture.

Wow! This place would be dangerous if I were a local. Great fresh food and amazing service. Got the double cheeseburger which was bigger than my head and cost less than $10. And got to enjoy the waterfall patio while we ate. The bigger was amazingly fresh and reminiscent of a Burger King Whopper from the early 90s, only bigger! Loved the flavor and the quality didn't seem like they were skimping or cutting any corners. This was a great surprise and I can see why they're so popular! I will definitely come back wherever in the area.

I have this kind of love-hate thing going on with Kopps. I mean, who can resist their delicious custard, those crispy onion rings, and those mouthwatering burgers? But here's the kicker - inconsistency is the name of the game. Recently, they've made some tweaks that really hit me in the taste buds. First off, the buns are not what they used to be, and it makes a difference. And hold on, the KRK Burger doesn't come with both fries and onion rings anymore? I found myself disappointed during my last visit. The lettuce on my burger was a sorry sight - wilted, old, and practically inedible. Now, don't get me wrong. I'll keep coming back for the flavor of the day because, well, it's still Kopps. There's something about their custard that keeps calling my name. And sure, I'll give the burgers another shot, but it's not like the good old days when I'd frequent the place without a second thought. Here's to hoping they get their act together because I miss the Kopps I used to know.

When the sign said jumbo burgers I didn't believe it, but they are not lying! I myself couldn't finish it but I was able to eat a little more than half! It's juicy, well cooked, seasoned perfectly and the toppings are of your choosing, most are free but some are extra like tomatoes. They have online orders available if you plan ahead. It's spacious inside. You order at the counter, wait for your number to be called and eat outside or take it to go. It stays busy! I had a chocolate milkshake and it was the creamiest shake I've had in a long time! I tried the fries and I wasn't a fan, they were too soft and a little too greasy for my liking, but the onion rings were good and crispy! It was a beautiful day to sit outside and relax and eat. They have flavors of the day which are constantly being switched out so give them a try. The creamsicle flavor today was delicious!

The lines move fast! I enjoy sitting and watching all of the workers because the kitchen is visible to everyone. There is outdoor seating during the warmer months with a cool waterfall and another area that's similar to a "yard" to also hang out. They serve the best onion rings you will ever find, very crunchy, lightly salty, and almost a hint of buttery flavor. The cheeseburger is honestly nothing crazy. It's good, nice portion size, standard patty, and a basic bun. But for the price, you can't beat it. Take some onion rings and smash it on the burger and yay! I ordered ice cream and asked if it was possible to have the nuts on the side, and they were not in the bag when I got home. It was disappointing because I was so excited they were able to accommodate my request.

We weren't planning on it, but we couldn't resist and went to our second Kopp's location (and fourth custard) in two days, this time on the way out of Milwaukee. This location is quite different from the one up in Glendale - way less space on the inside, with only a couple of hightop tables and most people opting to eat in the waterfall garden area right outside. The space retains the very sparse, industrial look and boasts a huge number of registers to take orders. As with the other location, there were a bunch of people waiting indoors for their sandwiches. If only custard is ordered, it's brought out immediately. 1 Scoop, Vanilla, in a cup ($3.50) - This time, we opted to get the plain vanilla to better understand the custard by itself, unadulterated by add-ins.The custard is silky smooth, rich with a milky taste. It has great structural integrity, resisting melting too much on the spot but still yields with little resistance to the spoon. As the spoon digs in and lifts out, the custard follows the spoon upwards, creating smooth ridges and valleys that stay solid without melding back into a puddle. The order of flavors clamoring for your taste buds are milk, then a vertiginous amount of sugar, and finally vanilla, a bit muted like it's an after thought. I don't understand why places don't offer plain sweet cream flavor - I think it would do splendidly here given the weaker vanilla flavoring. The custard comes with the famous Kopp's fan wafer on the side, which adds a flaky and crisp element. (5/5) Kopp's will be the first place I visit if I ever go back to Milwaukee. They have some of the best frozen custard you can get anywhere in the world.

Visited Milwaukee and wanted to try a good burger. This was probably the best one we tried! We tried another Kopp's in Brookfield and it was dry and very underwhelming! It was nothing like the one at this location. Service is fairly quick and the ambiance is busy and packed because it's that good!

Every time we are in Franklin we stop by Kopps! Worth the drive and the difficulty to find parking. Make sure you leave room for a Malt or Shake!!

Kopp's is a Milwaukee area institution with three locations. The lines on the left are for custard and the lines on the right are for the grill. There are machines constantly churning custard. I ordered the tiramisu (flavor of the day) and my bf ordered the Swiss chocolate. I liked the chunks of tiramisu in the custard. There are small standing tables inside and seats outside, but it was lightly snowing.

First time at Kopp's ! 10/10 Double cheeseburger was fire! It's like a double double from In N Out on steroids!

Favorite custard ever is the tiramisu in a waffle cone. Its fun to eat outside by the water feature. The service is quick and accurate. We also enjoy a good kopps burger for supper now and again. It's an order and take home to eat sorta place. Especially in winter.

Had mixed feelings about this unique Wisconsin spot. We were amazed by the sleek and clean indoor decor and nice outdoor seating area with a waterfall. Definitely one of the nicest fast food spots we've ever been to, but I felt like the food and service didn't match. There are two areas to order - 1 for savory food and 1 for custard. I had two wildly different experiences at each. When I ordered our double cheeseburger and fish with cheese burger, the cashier helping me was SO QUIET. Like practically whispering and I couldn't hear a thing she said. It was not helpful for a first timer like me unfamiliar with the menu. I asked for everything on the burger and she said "the works?" I said uh sure. Then, I asked how large a portion of fries were. Couldn't hear her again so I just accepted that and paid. After I saw her giggling with the other cashier. When I went to pick up my order, she just handed it to me without a smile or condiments, and then the next person that got their order she offered ketchup...I couldn't help but wonder if it was because we looked different from everyone else in the restaurant. On the other hand, when I ordered a custard, a sweet young man helped me who had a very clear and loud enough voice who answered any questions I had. That was a good ordering experience. Onto the food: the burgers are huge. Would have really liked to have everything on our burger considering we saw lettuce and tomatoes on others' burgers. The cheeseburger felt really heavy without them. My fish burger was delicious - big fish patty that was perfectly crispy. Not too dry. The custard is what they are famous for - super rich and creamy but also felt quite heavy - I couldn't finish my 1 scoop. Outdoor seating is benches only, no tables. Dog friendly. It's nice and peaceful but not sure if we'd return.

This burger was absolutely fantastic. Honestly I can't stop thinking about it and how much I want another one. Onion Rings and vanilla milkshake were also wonderful. Be prepared to eat outside and get messy! 10/10 would recommend. Great job Milwaukee!

An annual tradition for us to visit the Milwaukee Zoo and pay a visit to Kopps. Such a beautiful outdoor seating area. My son loves waterfalls so he was stoked to eat and enjoy the wonderful courtyard. The food is greasy delicious and large burgers, fries and custard. If that's not your style, forewarning this is not the place for you. One burger is definitely big enough to split into two servings. All the ingredients seemed fresh and the burgers came out piping hot. The onions rings were crispy and so good. Again, large serving. Custard was good too. Unique experience to dine here and great on a beautiful summer evening!!!

Finally had a chance to try Kopp's and it did not disappoint! This is an efficiently ran establishment. They serve you right away with no wait. There is plenty of room inside and out to enjoy your treat. Now to the main attraction: the frozen custard. They rotate flavors with 2 flavors of the day but will always have the vanilla and chocolate available everyday. The flavor profile, creaminess, and texture of the heath bar was just perfect. I will definitely be back to try the other flavors.

A friend of mine and I visited Kopp's yesterday. As usual, the wait staff were very friendly, courteous, and attention to detail. We both ordered a cheeseburger with fried onions. Maybe that sounds like nothing out of the ordinary, but that's not true. They turned out to be the tastiest, juicy burgers that we've had in a long time! They were sure generous and filling! No "quarter pounder or whopper" could stand up to what we had, and the cost was less than other place's burgers. I recommend Kopp's to everyone!

2 stars are for the hamburger I had on Friday around lunchtime. Ketchup, Mustard, Grilled Onions, Pickles. It was so mushy, the bun could hardly hold together. I could hardly taste the burger. What a mess. If I return, l will stick to the frozen custard.

I grew up near this location and hadn't been back in about 30 years. While the burgers were objectively better than the ones I had growing up, I was hoping for the same experience I had. The burgers and buns used to be thinner and not so charred on the outside. I think I was disappointed because of my expectations, not the quality of the food. I would rather have In'n'Out.

As you walk up, you know that you have found a truly unique place. Kopp's Frozen Custard has the industrial feel inside and a modern garden feel outside. It's brilliant how they merge two totally different concepts into one unique design. They only had outdoor seating. But, they had plenty of serene seating. The staff was friendly, efficient, and helpful. The food was fresh, hot, and made to order! All around incredibly delicious! We were on sweet overload. So, we didn't try any desserts. But, we'll definitely be back to try some. If you haven't tried this place before, add it to the list! There's a reason they have such a wonderful reputation that has been backed by years of indulgent quality food! Cheeseburger- The cheeseburger was crunchy on the edges, juicy and tender on the inside, and all together buttery and rich! The cheese was oozing off the side which gave it that addictive quality. I'd say to definitely pay the extra for the tomato. It added that sweet crispness that was much needed. The lettuce was crunchy and cool. It added that brightness and lightness that made it perfect. The bun was fluffy and flaky. Yet,rich and flavorful! All in all an incredible work of art! Onion Rings- The onion rings were crunchy, crispy, and chewy on the outside, and juicy, sweet, and savory on the inside. They were cooked to perfection! One of the best onion rings that I've ever had!

I can only comment on the custard, and it is the most amazing custard I've ever had. They have two flavors of the day, and I believe one of them changes daily. There is no seating inside, but in the summer there are a lot of benches outside which are perfect to have one of their amazing custards.

Was in town for business and had to stop for lunch and prove to myself that this place is still the quality food fast restaurant and custard stand is still viable. It filled the bill and stands out as o really good place to eat, with quick service and giant burgers.

Being a west coast transplant I'm predisposed to In-N-Out, but I'll devour a burger from any establishment and rank it above/below my North Star. I don't want to rain on any WI natives' love affairs with this place because I like a regional comfort food that resonates with the masses...but the KRK burger was just good. I wasn't blown away and the fries were meh. The onion rings, root beer on draught and the caramel cashew waffle cone were all delicious so there's my nudge to 4 stars. Will I go back? Sure. Do I regret that I've lived here for 6 years and didn't come here sooner? No.

Stop off for a quick lunch while on a business trip with colleagues. We ordered two cheeseburgers & one hamburger all with fries! All the hamburgers were okay, nothing to write home about. If we weren't in the area on business would not have made the trip to eat at this establishment.

Best cheeseburgers and fish sandwiches in the greater Milwaukee area. They have a lot of different flavors of frozen custard that change daily, and a special sundae and shake each month. The double cheeseburger is a decadent indulgence I have to have every once in a while. I had a hip replaced this June, and on the way home from the hospital I asked my wife if she would mind stopping at Kopp's because I was craving a fish sandwich. She said no problem and trust me that was the best fish sandwich I've ever eaten. Lastly, I'd like to thank and complement the hardworking folks at Kopp's because you do a great job.

I've been to this location various times! It's a great spot in Milwaukee and the food is really good for the price. Cleanliness can be hard sometimes as it gets very full so don't hold your breath on the outside seating area. Service is relatively average and nothing over the top but it is friendly. This is a must check out spot in the city if you're ever in town. P.S,, try the cheese burgers they're pretty good!

Grew up getting this custard for pajama rides on Fridays as a kid and now that I live in Florida it's a tradition to get it immediately after I land back in town. These people are like family to me and will always be at an elite level.

I've been coming here for almost 50 years, still the same, the best burger in Milwaukee along with Mazo's, Red Raspberry and Chocolate custard shakes are the best, grandkids love them too.

I have absolutely no idea how I have never reviewed Kopps....maybe it's because it's hard for me to put into words just how much I love it. That's probably it. I love it so very very much - even when I moved away for school and work, any time I was home, it was the first stop. I'm a big fan of the regular hamburger with the works, but have also found the chicken sandwiches to be delicious. I love that you can also ship pints now - a little pricey, but well worth it. It is consistently my comparison point for any other burger joint, and you can't beat the custard no matter the flavor. Yum yum yum.

Review from 2019. One of my local friends recommended this place. Their speciality is the constantly changing flavors of custard. I came after a late dinner in Feb so maybe not the most ideal time of year to be eating custard, but there was still a line. I got one of their flavors that day which was raspberry. It was thick, creamy and smooth. It also comes with a triangle wafer (see pic). I personally didn't find the flavor particularly outstanding to make me crave to come back. The employee taking my order also looked at me funny and was not particularly courteous. Not sure if it is just one off or they are not used to seeing non-white folks in Milwaukee. Overall: an unique spot, just don't expect to be blown away

OKAY YUM. Being in Wisconsin, we HAD to have some ice cream before our way out, and this spot had high recommendations. My only complaint is they don't have more options day to day - because I want to try them all. This is TRUE frozen custard, creamy and delicious. I got a half and half chocolate vanilla turtle sundae which was AMAZING. I couldn't finish it all, but I tried. It had so many toppings and was great. I want one now. Service was great. The gal working the counter was super helpful and sweet. Highly recommend.

A cheeseburger is a basic thing - meat- cheese- bun and whatever else you want. Very good. period. Executed well. The custard was excellent. The attendants were dressed 40's/50's, they were efficient and the service was fast. The place looks like an old burger and frozen custard stand. Very full but still fast. The parking lot was a bit tough but I'll let that slide.

Kopp's Jumbo Double Cheeseburger: Kopp's was founded in Milwaukee in 1950, meaning they've been serving up jumbo size burgers and frozen custard for 70 years. Their jumbo cheeseburger is huge, but for the first time I went with the massive double cheeseburger. It costs only $9.00 (not bad with the state of the economy) and can be customized with 14 different toppings (8 of which are free)! The soft and doughy bun is strong enough to hold this heavy burger together, but not too thick as to unbalance the burger to bun ration. Although the bun is primarily soft and chewy it has just the slightest indication of being toasted. I'm not sure how many slices of cheese are added, but it must be a few considering the diameter of the bun. It's almost impossible to tell from the pictures, but slices of cheese are also included between the patties. Even though it's thin, the burger still manages to be plenty flavorful and juicy. I topped my custom creation with raw onions, pickles, ketchup, mayo, and lettuce. It is the best "regular" cheeseburger I've had and one of my favorites in MKE. Doughboy approved @koppsfrozencustard *By regular cheeseburger I simply mean there's nothing flashy or special about it (no secret sauce, pretzel bun, or bizarre toppings), it is not necessarily a bad thing. It should also be noted this is the best burger in MKE for its price point. Not that it matters, but my estimate is that it is about 1500-1600 calories and 62g of protein. they can't clean their bags that they put the 1/2 gallons of ice cream in and there is now a chocolate stain on my WHITE shirt. AND THEY GOT SOME DISGUSTING BATHROOMS.
