Indian-inspired small plates & cocktails in a contemporary setting

"Testing local waters, this London Indian restaurant, founded by Will Bowlby and Rik Campbell, blends Indian flavors with seasonal British ingredients for its small-plate restaurants—a step above ubiquitous curry houses yet not as fancy as fine-dining Indian spots. Its first debut in New York comes as a two-night pop-up at Comal on Monday, October 6 and Tuesday, October 7 (116 Forsyth Street at Broome Street), with a $90 menu featuring staples like bhel puri and Keralan fried chicken plus fusion dishes that nod to Comal’s Mexico City-leaning sensibility; reservations are via Resy from 5 p.m. onward, all ahead of a potentially permanent opening in late 2026 or 2027." - Melissa McCart

"This trendy restaurant started life as a pop-up in a 20-seater shipping container and now has branches in Soho, White City and Brixton. There's not many Indian restaurants like this, that come with a counter, an open kitchen and such a great buzz. The selection of well-priced contemporary dishes are perfect for sharing and made with home-grown ingredients; the Keralan fried chicken is a must." - Michelin Inspector
"OK, let’s get down to the facts about Kricket’s Keralan fried chicken. Keralan cuisine is known for its use of chillies, curry leaves, and turmeric. Another fact: chicken thighs taste fantastic when marinated in all of the above. The spice mixture is punchy and the skin has a crunchy, almost dusty, texture—in the best way possible. Plus, the curry leaf mayonnaise that comes on the side is highly dippable." - heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, rianne shlebak, daisy meager
"The Indian-inspired spot is delivering from its Brixton and White City locations. Lamb leg korma, hyderbadi aubergine, and Keralan fried chicken all feature on the menu, as well as ‘feast’ deals for one or two people. Check whether you’re in range here, or give them a call to order for collection." - oliver feldman, heidi lauth beasley, jake missing, rianne shlebak
"Once your eyes adjust to the appallingly dim lighting in Kricket’s corridor-like dining room, you’ll spot the stairs past the row of backs sat at the counter. They lead to a spacious basement room where groups huddle around big tables, and whether it's Tuesday or Saturday, dinner at this sharing plates-style, modern Indian spot in Soho is bound to be buzzy. If you’re after a fun date night, the counter seating is a great place to sit side by side while throwing back citrussy pani puri shots. Although it’s cosy up here, it’s a loud place where your conversation won’t be overheard and will only be interrupted by the friendly bar staff leaning over to ask if you’re done with the excellently crispy Keralan fried chicken. To which you should always answer: we’ll have another round please." - Rianne Shlebak
