The Best New Brunch Restaurants in Houston, April 2025 | Eater Houston

"Following its second anniversary, this Mediterranean restaurant in West University launched its weekend brunch. From 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., diners can score great deals on drinks with $2 Saffron Sparklers and mimosas and fun bites like Loukoumades, fried Greek honey doughnuts. More classic style brunch dishes also exist with bougatsa, a Greek custard pie; Spana omelets; and grilled cheeses stuffed with a combination of spinach and feta. Don’t miss Kriti’s Mizithrapita, a cheese-filled pancake and drizzled with honey and a nut crumble." - Brittany Britto Garley

Houston’s Most Underrated Restaurants

"Kriti Kitchen quietly opened in the Weslayan Plaza Shopping Center at the start of the year, but has been steadily gaining momentum among Houston diners for its fresh menu of Greek fare and convenient grab-and-go prepared meals. Chef-owner Mary Cuclis worked at Michelin-starred Bo Innovation in Hong Kong and honed her chops at Pondicheri here in town, but her vision for the menu at Kriti Kitchen is inspired by her own Greek roots. During the restaurant’s exclusive monthly dinner series, guests are given the opportunity to journey through a multi-course dinner prepared by Cuclis, paired with a selection of Greek wines." - Megha McSwain

Google
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 5-Star Review from Ramy Chanteau Kriti Kitchen is absolutely outstanding! The food tastes incredibly fresh, authentic, and full of flavor — you can really feel the passion they put into every dish. The service is warm, friendly, and makes you feel right at home. It’s rare to find a place that delivers this level of quality and consistency. I highly recommend Kriti Kitchen to anyone looking for delicious Greek food and a wonderful dining experience. I will definitely be back soon! — Ramy Chanteau

Google
Neighborhood gem. Very traditional Greek food. The Moussaka was full of flavor. The triple dip board and meat board were also delicious. I personally love the Roasted Vegetable Bowl with roasted sweet potatoes, okra and spinach. Very friendly service and cute little place !!

Beatriz

Google
What a gem of a restaurant! The food was delicious and enjoyed the low key atmosphere and to go options. This will be a new regular spot for us!

Google
Wow what a great place. Really pretty dining room with bright white and blue decor. Beautiful sea mural on the wall. The food is so good. We ordered the seasonal salad and the Cretan salad and split the chicken souvlaki. Both salads are among the best we have ever had. We took home the baklava ice cream. Fantastic. This is a top 5 Houston restaurant in an unlikely location. I apologize to the food gods that I didn’t come earlier. Edit: I came back to post a pic of the June 2025 seasonal salad - watermelon and feta w chicken. So good.

Google
Wow what a gem! The food is delicious, the service is outstanding, and the atmosphere is pleasant! I ordered the lamb wrap and replaced the tzatziki sauce with their delicious pine nut sauce (vegan). I also got a side of yummy cauliflower! I love the decor in the place. It's really cute! We'll probably add it to our rotation of local restaurants for dinner. I highly recommend this cute little restaurant for take away or for dining in!

Google
Don’t let the strip center location fool you; this is incredible food. The lamb wrap was filled with tender meat and fresh, crisp veg and pickled onions. The lemon potatoes were sizzling hot, crisp on the outside and tender on the inside, and the meatballs were simple and tasty. I picked up some Greek biscotti that disappeared in seconds when I brought it home. This place cares and it shows.

Google
Kriti Kitchen one of my favorite restaurants. The menu offers a delightful array of Greek dishes that taste both fresh and authentic. I particularly enjoyed the seasonal and Cretan salads; both were bursting with flavor. The chicken souvlaki was grilled to perfection, tender and juicy. The staff was friendly and attentive, making the dining experience even more enjoyable. If you’re a fan of Greek cuisine or simply looking for a new spot to try, I highly recommend giving Kriti Kitchen a visit.

Google
Everything we tried was soo good and fresh! They don’t use any seed oils which is a win when eating out. The food was simple but very flavorful.

Yelp
A hidden gem on Wesleyan Plaza Exquisite food, delicately flavored with great service and a cool vibe! The name suggests it is an Indian restaurant but it is fusion Greek food - don't miss it!
google avatar

Yelp
Ordered to go and thought the food was mid. There is definitely better Greek for less money in the area. I expect a 16 dollar wrap to be thick but it was apparently on a diet. We also ordered the patty melt which was not very patty melt like - everything just sat on top of the meat. It was good but didn't meld together. The best thing we had was the feta fritter which was outstanding. I don't think I need to order anything again anytime soon.

Yelp
The interior is SO cute. Very bright and transports you to Greece. The food was also yum! They also prepare ready-made meals that you can pop in and grab. Meat board: The chicken and beef meatballs were tender, juicy & spiced so nicely. The vegetables on the board paired well with the meats. The carrots had a sweet cumin flavor, and the cucumbers were acidic and crunchy. The smoked eggplant dip added a smooth & creamy element. The moussaka reminded me of a shepherd's pie but with a savory cinnamon flavor.

Yelp
For all the times I've been in this complex (probably too distracted by Homegoods), I can't believe I've never noticed this Greek spot! The inside was so cute with all the details of Greece. I was wanting something lighter and healthier for lunch and am so glad Kriti Kitchen came up on my search. We got the Meat Mezze board and Moussaka to share. The chicken kabob and meatballs were both so tender, juicy, and flavorful. The pickled cucumbers. carrots (pickled cumin flavor ?), and dip complimented the savoriness of the meats well. I've never tried Moussaka before, but I know I will be craving this dish! It's basically an eggplant lasagna with ground beef. Served with perfectly toasted bread on the side. Can't wait to come back to try more dishes! Also nice to know that there's grab and go options that can be reheated at home.

Yelp
Let me just say, ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!! I got the regular beef keftedes and my sister got the quinoa & sweet potato keftedes and they were just so tasty! The sauce that came with both (I believe mine was tzatziki and not sure what sauce my sister had) complimented each keftedes. We also got the lemon potatos (not pictured) and they had the perfect amount of lemon flavor to them! The restaurant was quaint but cute, and the staff was friendly. I will be back soon

Yelp
The food here was PHENOMENAL. I had the Spana grilled cheese and was pleasantly surprised with the combination of flavors. The sautéed vegetables were also well seasoned and tasty. My husband had the chicken souvlaki. As fervent Greek and Mediterranean food lovers, we were satisfied with the flavors and combinations. We will definitely be back to try more. The price was reasonable and the service was excellent. The food was made fresh. The cafe and patio area are trendy, well maintained, and clean!

Yelp
A small cute and easy to shop place with food ready to take home and bake. I got the Briami, which took 20 min to heat at home, and the Galaktoboureko. The Briami was a yummy vegetable dish with quite a bit of flavor. I wasn't the biggest fan but that might be because I thought it needed a bit more salt. All together it was easy to make, inexpensive and tasted fine. The Galaktoboureko was honestly not my cup of tea. It's was like a thick layer of something dairy related between flakey pastry sheets but just too milky for my preference. This was the first time I've ever had this dish so I have no idea if it was authentic or true to flavor. Overall the staff was very kind and the checkout experience was great.

Yelp
Found this place on Yelp while searching for new Greek places to try so I decided to stop by and grab some of the heat and eat dishes for dinner! We got the keftedes, frozen tiropita and a mint lemonade. The lemonade was tart and refreshing, really great for a hot day in Texas. Both dishes had clear instructions on how to reheat and also listed the ingredients that were in them. The food tasted super authentic and were seasoned well. I served the keftedes with some homemade pita and a Greek salad that I made and it was a really nice and filling dinner. The interior was small but very clean and there was a cute mural on the wall. I plan on coming back to try the food on the cafe menu as well as their other heat and eat dishes!

Yelp
Our experience at Kriti Kitchen was a private event celebrating my childhood friend's birthday! The restaurant is quaint and beautifully decorated! We met Chef Mary and once the entrees came out, every dish was so flavorful! The Lamb was cooked to perfection, the Chilean Sea bass with pureed leeks was my favorite! We had a blast celebrating at Kriti! I was enjoying the moment, I forgot to take pictures of the food! So you just need to come and experience it yourself!

Yelp
This review is just for the keftedes as I didn't buy anything else during my first visit. It was juicy, spiced correctly and accompanied by tzatziki which was just perfectly made. I grew up in a Greek neighborhood and have been homesick. I will definitely be back for spanakopita, mousaka and some appetizers. Look forward to heading there again soon.

Tina D.

Yelp
Found this place while looking up moussaka. I ended up ordering the meat plate instead and getting the moussaka container to go. Everything was delicious. Wish I came in a few weeks earlier so I could try the okra but the sautéed greens were a good compromise. Although I was disappointed, the gentleman at the counter explained it was because towards the end of summer while okra is technically still in season, the okra becomes tough and stringy. I appreciate the level of consideration.

Yelp
Great hole in the wall Greek place in West U! Went with a group of 4 and we shared 2 meat mezze platters - everything delicious. The place itself is small and cozy, most people seemed to come in for takeout. Parking plentiful. We left close to closing time and they very kindly gave us free dessert. Will be going again!

Yelp
Got a surprise bag from here off the Good to Go app. Got the rosemary shrimp with tzatziki sauce, came with about 14 pieces of shrimp. Loved it! Shrimp were huge and fresh. Loved the seasoning on it. Made quesadillas with the shrimp. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
Had a great lunch at Kriti Kitchen. The food was perfectly prepared with a lovely presentation. Employees are very friendly and will provide selection recommendations upon request. My daughter and I had the new menu item Veg Papoutsakia (we split it), the roasted vegetable wrap and 2 scrambled eggs with feta. I'd highly recommend this restaurant - they also have a large selection of family meals - this is our normal approach.

Yelp
So happy to have a new place for to go dinners. I tried the frozen spanakopita and moussaka. The heating instructions were on the lid and easy to follow. In 20 min you will have a nice dinner for 2 with leftovers. Only thing I would have liked more eggplant in the moussaka but overall reheated great. The spanakopita was some of the best I have had! The spinach was so tasty! Excited to comeback and try other dishes!

Yelp
Dear Foodie readers, a little bit of Greece in West U....bringing the freshest ingredients with a home cooked feel...when you walk in it's bright and cozy....we went for brunch, my favorite meal...we started with the dips, they were good, but I felt they needed a little more flavor. Now the eggs and lemon potato's were out of this world. I could eat a bucket of them lol...the staff was very hospitable and friendly...the bonus is they have cooked meals you can take home and reheat. Don't worry about what to cook, grab a home cooked meal from Kriti Kitchen today!

Joop L.

Yelp
Fantastikós! A gem! Super friendly and we loved everything we ordered this first visit. You can tell there is love put into this food! We ate at the restaurant and ordered: Spana omelet (listed under brunch but we had it for dinner) with greens, meat mezze, gigantes, moussaka, lamb wrap with lemon potatoes, spanakopita, mint lemonade and white wine that I can't find on online menus. Plates are great for sharing. The menu there is more extensive than menu I've seen online. Our entire party loved everything (save our picky eater who tried and ate much more than she does at any other restaurant!) The atmosphere is clean, cozy, intimate and warm. I foresee this becoming a family favorite.

Yelp
Wow! So glad I decided to finally try this place! It's an adorable small space restaurant with great and simple decor. They have several grab and go meals that you can simply reheat at home. I was blown away by the variety of gluten free and vegetarian options. I ordered the vegetarian mezze platter which was both vegan and gluten free! It was delicious. The platter came with quinoa & sweet potato keftedes (reminded me of falafel) melitzanosalata (smoked eggplant dip), almond cassava flatbread and cucumber salad. The almond cassava flat bread was absolutely delicious as was the keftedes. I also ordered the lemon potatoes. They were fantastic! I cannot wait to try the okra. When I saw that it was gluten free I got so excited. I wish I orders it this time, but there is always next time. The two people that greeted me and assisted me could not have been nicer. I ordered my food to go and it came out in a very timely manner. Do yourself a favor and try this place! I promise you won't be disappointed.

Yelp
A lovely grab-and-go addition to the West U area! Super happy to have this in my rotation for a quick lunch or dinner to heat up at home when I'm not able to cook anything from scratch myself. Tried several items baked to their specifications and it was all quite delicious. Each container of food lasted for several meals to feed our family. Well worth the price in my opinion. I especially love the eggplant moussaka, chicken kabobs, and keftedes. Truly gourmet.
google avatar

Jackie K.

Yelp
While Kriti Kitchen has a seating area, it seems like they're catering more to grab-and-go (their menu says "heat and eat") lunches and dinner, and I think it's a fantastic setup! We picked up a few grab-and-go items that you heat up at home, and I really liked everything we purchased: -Chicken kebabs: The chicken kebabs were so nice and tender, very good. -Rice: The rice was wonderful! It contained onions, cherries, and pecans, and I thought it was delightful. -Flatbread: The flatbread is the only item we picked up that was actually already warm, and it was so good. It was nice and soft and contained some nice herbs.

Lee L.

Yelp
This place has great reviews and I was anxious to try it. I felt that the food was pretty flavorless and a big let down. Maybe I ordered the wrong thing? I got the lamb wrap & it just didn't do it for me. It's a no for me.

Viola L.

Yelp
Casual restaurant with great food. Eat in or carry out fresh and frozen meals. We have never been to Kriti before but we will definitely be back. Friends invited us and helped explaining the dishes. Great for informal, easy friendly dining. Staff is friendly. They have a beautiful mural on the wall by a very talented local artist Julie Keselman. Enjoy!
google avatar

Matthew V.

Yelp
Fast food that is vegetarian and vegan friendly. I love the lentils and greens with the mushrooms. Very delicious!!
google avatar

Deets H.

Yelp
Love this place! It's beautiful, the food is great, and the owner/chef is awesome. It's also a local small business, so you can feel good supporting it. I particularly liked the pecan orzo and this lovely cake! You can eat in or grab & go with "take & bake" items.

Marlyse K.

Yelp
A fine little gem with great service, DELICIOUS meals and a very cozy environment. Not forgetting the BEAUTIFUL mural. They offer two menu choices-one to dine-in (take out as well), and the other for pre-packed meals all homemade. First time being exposed to Greek food and my experience has been AMAZING! I have tried the wraps, Galaktoboureko (dessert), Pecan Orzo, Chicken Souvlaki and have enjoyed every single bite of it. I am looking forward to trying more of the meals here. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this place to anyone searching for Greek cuisine in Houston.

Yelp
Kriti Kitchen is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. I love the concept of a cafe that also has an array of prepped meals for takeaway. I wouldn't come here if you have a large group and are expecting a dining experience. There's about 4 tables inside, 3 outside, and four seats at a counter top. The menu is also compact. I ordered the meat mezze plate and the chicken wrap (which comes with a side). At first glance the portions seemed small and prices a bit high but I felt full after the wrap and there is a significant amount of meat in the mezze plate. The food was delicious- very flavorful, fresh and you can tell it's carefully made with love. The baklava cookie is incredible- hard to eat just one. Even though they are in training mode, I thought service was excellent, the servers seemed well trained and very very friendly and helpful. I look forward to returning to try the takeaway meals and encourage everyone to support this new neighborhood gem!
google avatar

Cassidy K.

Yelp
Loved it! Ordered the scrambled eggs and an oat milk latte for breakfast. Calm atmosphere and amazing food

Katrina S.

Yelp
OMG! Why did we wait?! This place is the bomb!!! First off, it is not Indian, like I've assumed from the name. I guess I need to get my languages straight. It is Greek. They have a very cute interior, an amazing and straightforward menu, and... AND a heat and to eat ready to go selection of meals ready to prepare at home! They also have baklava and seasonal desserts. I can't wait. But the vegetarian meal I selected is amazing and the Mezze meat board my partner ate was apparently quite delicious too. Nothing left and I didn't get an offer of even a taste.

Jennifer S.

Yelp
This place is awesome! I ate there for breakfast and the food was delicious. They also have great frozen meal options as well.
google avatar

Julius C.

Yelp
Great service super underrated authentic Greek spot! Great food and the ambiance of the place is calm and welcoming!

Diana R.

Yelp
What a great little spot to have excellent Greek food! I enjoyed Spanokita and Gigantes - delicious! Gracious service, clean space, excellent food! Wish I lived closer so I could come every week.

A Lee See A H.

Yelp
A very tranquil place in the middle of town. The staff was very welcoming and informative. I ordered the pomegranate pork ribs (a heat and serve option) - WOW! So delicious and tender. I hungrily enjoyed them with rice pilaf and a green salad. I regret not ordering the fava bean dish but it looked amazing bathed in a rich tomato based sauce. I ordered the Moussaka and I'm confident it is just as delicious. I can't wait to return to enjoy more dishes.
google avatar

Claire R.

Yelp
Kriti meals (take out) were a weekly mainstay of the pandemic for us and now we have this beautiful, calm, exquisitely thought-through shop and Café. Today we had the luscious white bean stew, tzatziki, roasted veggie wraps Next, we plan to try breakfast. Friendly service and unique take on dishes - and all fresh and healthy.
google avatar

Tracy K.

Yelp
Visited Kriti Kitchen at their soft opening. The atmosphere was great. I had their Keftedes beef meatballs which are so flavorful, you can tell they're made with love. I will definitely be going back for more. Not to mention entire staff was fantastic!!

Fred B.

Yelp
The food was delicious and the service and atmosphere was excellent. My wife and I came here for our date night. We really enjoyed the chicken rice and Cretan salad. We intend to return.

Stephanie W.

Yelp
We tried Kriti Kitchen for the first time and I would definitely order again! The meat was perfectly tender, the sauces were great, and service was good and fast for pick up! The baklava cookies are a must have to end your meal on a little sweet note. One of the best cookies I've ever had to be honest. This food tasted fresh and healthy. It was a great meal to pick up for dinner on a really long day.

Rohana S.

Yelp
The food is absolutely great! I have done grab and go and dine in and the food is wonderful every time. I have even catered for a party I was hosting and the food was thoroughly enjoyed. Good fresh clean ingredients and an all round lovely meal always.

William P.

Yelp
Absolutely delicious! I went twice in one week. The chicken was perfectly marinated and delicious, so I had to try the meat and it was so good. Hard for me to pick my favorite. I have a toaster oven in my office so it's great to be able to have a place to pick up real food that I can heat up and eat while I'm working

Trevor C.

Yelp
Don't think about it- just come in and enjoy! The chicken wrap I had had such great flavor (and of course my favorite item was sold out: the amazing pecan orzo ). This has easily become one of my weekly go-tos! Thank you all! Keep crushing it! :)

Yvonne W.

Yelp
The pecan orzo pasta was very disappointing. We took the small portion to go. It was a nice serving amount but besides the orzo I couldn't recognize one other ingredient. No small bits of pecan, pine nuts or caramelized onion per the list of ingredients. It was brown mush. If I had been served this at the restaurant I would have sent it back. Good concept and a nice menu but execution needs help.
