The Best Restaurants in Newark, New Jersey | Eater NY

"Opened in 1932, Krug’s still has the classic neighborhood shot and a beer feel — but it’s much more than that. It is a great sports bar, without looking like one. Maybe the widest cross section of Newark walks through the doors here to drink and eat, most famously for what’s considered the best burger around, cooked on the small tabletop-sized griddle at the back corner of the bar. Go full Jersey and order the 12-ounce burger topped with grilled Taylor ham and cheese." - Hank Zona

The Most Unusual Burgers Around New York City | Eater NY

"I had the Taylor ham cheeseburger at this 1932 Ironbound-founded classic; topped with Taylor ham (pork roll), it adds a savory note unlike bacon or ordinary ham, and the patty itself is a hefty 12 ounces — a distinctly New Jersey bar-style burger." - Robert Sietsema

Classic old-school Tavern serving freshly prepared food . Classic 12 oz Burger doesn't disappoint. No special sauce needed !!!!! the quality of the meat of the stands out. Medium rare perfection with a fresh roll, plenty of juice. Onion +Tomato only.. Juicy, flavorful.. served with fresh steak 🍟 fries. Great service as well

Typical dive bar with a really good burger. Went with some family and friends and we all got the same thing Bacon cheeseburger with steak fries and wings. The burger was huge and that didn’t take away from the flavor. The wings were solid. The service was so so, but it seemed as if there were only 2 people serving on a Saturday afternoon and they were doing the best they good. The parking situation is a little tough but they do have a free small parking lot. All in all definitely a must try if you love burgers.

Went the other day for lunch with a group of firefighters I work with. We are burger snobs. This is the place to go. Staff is incredible and the burgers are 2nd to none. If you like burgers, put this on your list of must go’s.

Excellent food. This is a pretty cool dive bar with some of the biggest burgers you'll find in NJ. All hand crafted marvels of meat (pause). Everything is made to order and you can taste the passion in each bite. Good service, very attentive staff, and they make you feel like a regular. Definitely glad I tried this spot out today and can't wait to return.

My husband and I LOVE Krugs Tavern. It has become our go to sports bar and favorite location for after work libations. Come as you are. This is a welcoming no-frills bar. We love it. We have probably ordered everything from their menu and can’t complain about a single item. We recommend the employee sauce (secret sauce) on either their wings or shrimp. The underrated item on their menu is their pickle. It is seriously crunchy and delicious. Their burgers are delicious but very filling. My warning to large tables is that the kitchen cooks to order, so expect items to come out at different times. Free Parking is in the rear (not side) of the building (turn on Napoleon Street).

Usually don't give 5 stars to a dive bar but the burger and service is so darn good how could i not.... totally go there and vet any burger. You'll never enjoy another burger anywhere else the same again. Had the beacon cheeseburger a few month ago, today went for pizza burger. Insane!!

I've been coming to Krug’s for years, and the food never disappoints. The burgers are hands down some of the best around—juicy, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. You can always count on Krug’s for great, classic comfort food. That said, the service during my most recent visit left a lot to be desired. Our waiter made us feel rushed from the moment we sat down and acted as though we were a burden rather than valued paying customers. It really took away from what’s usually a great experience. I love this place and want to keep supporting it, but it’s important that the staff—especially longtime servers—show a bit more patience and hospitality. A little more time and attentiveness can go a long way.

Good food and drinks, friendly service, and welcoming atmosphere We were told that we had to go to Krug’s for the best burger. We went with the bacon cheeseburger and the burger with pastrami, with a side of onion rings to share. Since the menu said it takes half an hour to make a burger, we got chicken fingers and French fries to start. Chicken fingers & French fries: good, nothing extra special. The fries were steak fries and not the best. Came with a honey mustard sauce that was heavy on the mustard. Bacon cheeseburger (medium): so good. Not the best I’ve ever had, but thick and juicy and perfectly cooked. A ton of bacon, which is never bad. Burger with pastrami: the pastrami was fried, I think? It was almost like bacon, and it was great. It’s a really unique burger and delicious. Onion rings: we ordered them because of a review that said they were the best someone had ever had. They were…good. You could bite and not have the whole onion pull out, but you had to bite down hard. Peanut butter old fashioned: delicious. Wonderful. Magical. They didn’t have cherries, but it didn’t matter. It was the exact perfect amount of liquor to make everything about the day and night better. Service: everyone was busy but also Incredibly nice and helpful. They weren’t necessarily around when you needed them, but if you asked for something, they were always happy to help. Atmosphere: it seems like a neighborhood institutions kind of place, and if I lived nearby, I would want to hang out here all the time to make friendly with the regulars and listen to the 90s music.
