"At Kulture, owner Marcus Davis provides a space for Black chefs to learn the ins-and-outs of restaurant operations and present their own menus. Chefs cook on a rotating basis, so you may experience excellent plates from the Caribbean diaspora one evening, and an expertly crafted soul food dish on another. Kulture’s newest resident chef, James Beard-nominated chef James Haywood, takes soul food ingredients and pairs them with flavors from all over the world. The collard green arancini, with its nods to Mediterranean fare, and bantu spiced lamb hummus, a Middle Eastern-inspired twist to the dish, transcend traditional expectations of what soul food can be." - Alexandria Jack

"Restaurateur Marcus Davis furthers his imprint on the Houston culinary scene at this curated pop-up dinner series that showcases the cuisine of the African diaspora through the lens of various local and national African American chefs at Downtown’s Kulture HTX. From Caribbean-themed feasts to vegan-centric dinners, Black Chef Table is home to some of the best-tasting menu options and culinary storytelling that Houston has to offer." - Sean Hekmat

"A recurring dinner series that spotlights Black chefs and cuisines from across the African diaspora, with rotating guest chefs and themed feasts; upcoming installments include a Chicago-focused menu from Lamar Moore, a winter gala by Justin Lawson, and a showcase blending American Southern and Criollo-Peruvian dishes by Toya Terry. The series is held in a Downtown Houston restaurant and posts dates and ticket details on its dedicated website." - Brittany Britto Garley

"A once-celebrated Caribbean-Southern restaurant that opened in 2018 has been reinvented as a lively downtown events space and the home of the Black Chef Table dinner series. Founded by a Houston restaurateur with early culinary leadership from a Top Chef alum, the venue pivoted after the 2020 pandemic and since November 2021 has hosted monthly multicourse takeovers that spotlight Black chefs from across the country — pairing food with live music, stilt performers and other theatrical elements. Past takeovers have ranged from collaborative West African menus to Puerto Rican riffs and a chef’s ode to Caribbean roots; notable dishes served during the series include crispy pork belly with sweet tomato ham glaze and a watermelon-and-cucumber salad. Beyond nightly programming, the project offers multi-month chef residencies, helps connect chefs to local Black purveyors (including Ivy Leaf Farms, Plant It Forward Farms and Fresh Life Organic), and intentionally centers Black culinary history and underrepresented producers while preparing for a full restaurant reopening by year’s end." - Eater

"A Houston restaurant where Dawn Burrell built a reputation that led to a James Beard Award nomination in 2020; her work there is presented as a key part of her culinary credentials and background heading into national competitions." - Amy McCarthy
