"A once-celebrated Caribbean-Southern restaurant that opened in 2018 has been reinvented as a lively downtown events space and the home of the Black Chef Table dinner series. Founded by a Houston restaurateur with early culinary leadership from a Top Chef alum, the venue pivoted after the 2020 pandemic and since November 2021 has hosted monthly multicourse takeovers that spotlight Black chefs from across the country — pairing food with live music, stilt performers and other theatrical elements. Past takeovers have ranged from collaborative West African menus to Puerto Rican riffs and a chef’s ode to Caribbean roots; notable dishes served during the series include crispy pork belly with sweet tomato ham glaze and a watermelon-and-cucumber salad. Beyond nightly programming, the project offers multi-month chef residencies, helps connect chefs to local Black purveyors (including Ivy Leaf Farms, Plant It Forward Farms and Fresh Life Organic), and intentionally centers Black culinary history and underrepresented producers while preparing for a full restaurant reopening by year’s end." - Eater
