Best Restaurants in Austin’s Rosedale Neighborhood | Eater Austin

"Find Vietnamese dishes at this bright-red food truck in Rosedale. Pick a base — banh mi, noodles, tacos, rice, or salad — and add proteins like grilled meats, shrimp, or fried tofu and extras like condiments and vegetables. The cilantro-mayonnaise on French bread is a good pick. Takeout orders can be placed online or in person; there are outdoor dine-in areas." - Darcie Duttweiler

Kuway's Banh Mi - Review - Rosedale - Austin - The Infatuation

"Tucked away in a gas station parking lot near 45th and Burnet, Kuway’s makes banh mi, bowls, and boba tea—really covering all the b’s you could want. The bread is made in-house (in-trailer?), meaning it’s just as fresh as the cilantro spilling out of your banh mi. There are a lot of options when it comes to protein choices here—grilled beef, shrimp, chicken, or pork, or fried tofu—and you can’t really go wrong with any, but you can go especially right with the grilled beef or grilled pork. photo credit: Nicolai McCrary" - Nicolai McCrary

Google
Rating: 3.8/5 [delivery] We ordered through DoorDash, and it took about an hour for the food to arrive. However, food wasn't bad for the price. Broken Rice Combo ($14.99): The pork egg roll was just okay--not crispy. The shrimp didn't taste fresh, and wasn't deveined, but the grilled pork and chicken were solid. Overall, a mid-tier broken rice plate. Sizzling Beef Plate / Bánh Mì Chảo ($15.50): This came with stir-fried marinated beef, Vietnamese pork meatballs, a sunny-side-up egg, pâté, Vietnamese mayo, a side salad, and toasted baguette. It looked like they mixed the pâté and mayo together--the sauce was super white and looked like bánh mì spread, so we used it that way. The beef was flavorful and well-marinated. The meatballs looked dry so I soaked them in the sauce before eating them. The salad was just a few slices of cucumbers, tomatoes, and lettuce leaves butworked as a refreshing contrast to all the salty proteins. Bánh Mì Grilled Pork ($8.99): Loved the grilled pork--flavorful with a good amount of meat. I didn't taste any pickled carrots/daikons, just a ton of cilantro. It also came with a side sauce and a Sriracha packet, which felt random. We ended up using the sauce for our rice instead.

Google
No joke I’ve been here four times in the past week because it’s just that good. I get the pork banh mi and have been satisfied every time, but the fried rice, egg rolls, and ESPECIALLY the viet coffee are great too. Well priced with very friendly and efficient staff. I’m lucky to live so close to Kuway’s, but honestly I’d probably still come here even if I lived across town.

Google
I genuinely love this place!!!!!! I still go here often with my boyfriend he loves this place. my parents are from Saigon and this is like one of the only places they trust in Austin to order banh mi from The ingredients taste great together. I think the carrot should be a little bigger and longer. But it tastes like what I used to eat when I was younger in cali and it’s good anyway Pork banh mi: 9.5/10 Beef banh mi: 9.4/10

Google
Grilled pork banh mi was big and tasted excellent. It had all the right components: juicy and charred pork, the correct amount of crunch and fresh veg and crusty but soft bread. Egg roll was good too. And all of that plus an iced tea was less than $13! I will definitely be back soon

Google
This has become my daily lunch spot. Their pork bahn mi is so good and only 7.50 They are fast, friendly and consistent. I've had 15$ bahn mi that did not compare to kuways at all. Try it out, you will be happy 😊

Google
I go to this Kuway almost every week for the past year! I tried almost everything here, from banh mi, broken rice, and noodle salad to the signature sizzling beef pan, which is my all-time favorite! Not only is the food so delicious but the owner is so kind and cheerful 💗 I took all of my friends here and all of them love it! I love this food truck so much and I’ll keep coming here for the sizzling pan!

Google
These Banh Mi are amazing. We also had the tacos where the tortilla reminds me of the texture of a fried wonton. We had the pork and the beef and both were just as juicy. I also had the leeches drink and it was refreshing.

Yelp
I ordered on Uber Eats and was pretty disappointed with the food quality. Grilled pork Banh mi -- 2/5 Very dry pork and almost burnt. Eggrolls -- 3/5 Standard greasy eggrolls Ube Coffee -- 5/5 I really liked the coffee. The ube flavor comes out nicely Broken rice combo -- 1/5 Didn't even come close to finishing this. The grilled pork was super dry and almost burnt.

Yelp
Looking for quick, convenient, tasty, filling, and joy inducing? The grilled pork banh mi paired with a Vietnamese coffee from Kuway's is the perfect "on the run" spot to take your day from speedy and overwhelmed, to productive and fulfilled. I find it easiest to place an order over the phone. The lady who answers never asks for my name, but somehow always knows my order when I arrive. Spidey sense on lock. Note this is located as the Rosedale Market gas station, so find parking out front. Quick and efficient service overall! There are some picnic tables that the food trucks share, but this sammie is going to be just as yummy and crisp after your journey to somewhere with A/C. Chill digs for a casual meetup though!

Yelp
Kuway's Food Truck is a culinary treasure on wheels! The banh mi sandwiches here are nothing short of spectacular. Each sandwich is a perfect harmony of crispy baguette, savory meats, fresh vegetables, and tangy sauces, creating an explosion of flavors with every bite. The pickled vegetables add a refreshing crunch, while the herbs and spices elevate the taste to another level. My favorite is the shrimp banh mi. The shrimp are seasoned and cooked to perfection. All of the flavors of the sandwich combined are absolutely delicious. The staff's friendly service and the truck's vibrant atmosphere only add to the experience. For an unforgettable banh mi, this food truck is a must-visit! It might be a little hard to find parking as this truck is parked in the lot of a gas station but there is overflow parking in the back. I was able to get a parking spot during busy hours.

Yelp
This little food truck park is a go to lunch spot during the week. I tried the Fried Egg Banh Mi. It was a pretty standard banh mi, didn't really blow me away. It was $7.50 a sandwich. I felt it could have used more flavor.

Yelp
Ordered from here as part of my company's lunch drop today! I've been eating salad on days I come into office, and I saw they had a grilled pork bowl with an option of replacing a typical rice/noodles with salad. It's actually a pretty good portion size for the price! I added an extra fried rice and protein, and my total came out to be about $15. I would say that's not bad considering a popular salad chain charges about $14-15 for the same thing with far less protein and no egg. The flavor of the pork was awesome. The egg was cooked just how I like it-over easy. I picked up my lunch late and the egg was still runny! I would definitely order from here again. It was packaged well with a fork, spoon, and napkins.
google avatar

M H.

Yelp
Sandwich was just carrots and pork. No other veges or toppings. Bread was stale. Ate half, threw the rest away.
google avatar

Linsie W.

Yelp
Thought this place was great! Came here with a friend for a quick bite and got a great bahn mini for a great price! $8 for what i thought was a really big portion, I had enough to take for leftovers. Their menu is pretty big and service was great. There's a seating area across the way as well. There are other trucks in the area so plenty on options for the whole crowd!
google avatar

Neetu K.

Yelp
I found their chicken bahn mi to be comparable to that of NG Cafe, which is . Pork is delicious as well!
google avatar

Lena H.

Yelp
Ordered their chicken banh mi, loaded with tons of veggies! I loved the seasoning on the chicken. It had so much flavor. They are located in a corner gas station parking lot with a few other food trucks. Kind of hard to maneuver thru. However, there is a covered seating area outside to eat. Service was quick and easy. You can even go sit in your car while your food is being prepared. They will give you a buzzer to let you know when it's ready. Will definitely come back and try their other menu items!
google avatar

Lukas P.

Yelp
Simple and delicious bahn mi. The bread is nice and crisp, the pork is tender and juicy, and the vegetables taste fresh. I had the pork bahn mi and I was pleased. Service is quick. It is a food truck so the ambiance is nothing to behold. Would definitely come back though.
google avatar

Clint S.

Yelp
Without question, this is THE place for the best banh mi sandwiches ever. The bread is crunchy as it should be, the marinated pork is tender, and the vegetables are all fresh. I'm so thankful that they are so close.
google avatar

Eina D.

Yelp
Tucked away in a corner gas station is this food truck serving up delicious Vietnamese food. I always get the grilled pork banh mi and it never disappoints. The meat is moist and flavorful, the taste is consistent, and I'm stuffed by the end of it. I haven't tried the other items, but based on my experience with the banh mi, I know it'll be delicious.
google avatar

Nini N.

Yelp
The beef sizzling is served on a hot plate so be careful! It's very authentically Vietnamese, when i eat here i can imagine it's just like i'm in the streets of Hanoi. The zucchini noodles are so refreshing and light and perfect for a hot day. The portions are perfectly filling and sometimes i'll even have extra. It is just so good!! I recommend this place to anyone who'll listen
google avatar

Amy F.

Yelp
Pretty good banh mi place! Got their tofu banh mi delivered via DoorDash - in a land where $10+ meals are the norm, having a $9 banh mi is fantastic. Tofu is nicely flavored, not mind-blowing, but pretty satisfying. Overall, I'd definitely buy from here again! A solid banh mi at a great price

Ralf R.

Yelp
The cashier was friendly. The food came out fast and fresh. I was given a buzzer which made it convenient. I used the sauce it came with and enjoyed that also.

Yelp
Delicious Vietnamese food served from a food truck parked at the Rosedale market/gas station at the corner of Burnet and 45th. You can call ahead or order when you get there - pretty customizable options of either a box or a bowl. The box is the bahn mi sandwich. I got the pork bahn mi without pate and a Vietnamese coffee. The woman working inside was very friendly and gave me a buzzer to wait for my food - you can wait in your car or under the gazebo with tables on the corner. The bahn mi was very nicely wrapped and I liked that the sriracha and sauce a was on the side since I was taking it home - no mess! The Vietnamese coffee was sweet and strong, absolutely would get it again. I've been on the hunt for the best bahn mi in town for a minute and this one was no joke, lots of tender meat and fresh veggies. I might add an egg or avocado next time. I really enjoyed the soft bread, sometimes the baguettes can be really chewy or dense. So happy Kuway's is close to me, can't wait to go back!
google avatar

Van N.

Yelp
I dont see why this place is getting so much hate for being next to a gas station. I don't see the same yelpers complaining about the same problem with the other 3 food trucks thats there. Well I visited anyways, so let's talk about bo ne or sizzling beef. Its called bo ne (dodging beef) in vietnamese because when it comes in sizzling you have to dodge the oils popping from the egg, beef and pate. The plate is HOTT! Bo ne here didn't come out that hot. I can imagine its a liability here. It also came with a hotdog and corn. The flavor was right, portion was huge! My 'not hungry' definitely ate half of it. We'll definitely be back to try more things!! Pro tip: Vietnamese coffee will totally wake you up from the food coma!
google avatar

Emily J.

Yelp
Wonderful Vietnamese food. I got the Combo Vermicelli, which was really solid and tasted fresh. The standout item was the TACOS. They're fantastic. Classic Vietnamese grilled meats with fresh veggies -- but in these incredible, flaky wraps. The wraps taste like scallion pancakes (without the scallions) -- chewy and flaky and delicious with the fresh fillings. Everything was delicious with large portions. I can't wait to eat here again.
google avatar

Anna S.

Yelp
I got their grilled pork banh mi! They seasoned their pork a bit different than the lemon grass pork I'm used to. The pork is a bit more on the rough texture but still delicious. They don't drench their banh mi in sauce but instead they give you a sriracha packet and a fish sauce(?)/soy sauce combo on the side for you to add onto your banh mi yourself. They have plenty of outdoor seating around the food truck - felt safe to eat during covid. Would recommend if you are looking for a quick meal! Their zucchini noodles seems pretty tasty - would come back to try it!
google avatar

Megan G.

Yelp
5 stars for flavor!!!! The first bite of the banh mi sandwich was insane, flavor packed explosion. I immediately knew I found my new place for banh mis!! The vermicelli combo was good too, lots of meat, but the banh mi was so good, I would choose it over the vermicelli everyday. Only complaint was a few fatty pieces in the sandwich, I'd say 10% of it was fat. Some people love that so for them it's perfect, me just not so much. I just picked them out and then it was perfect, YUM
google avatar

Jonathan F.

Yelp
Some friends talked about this place and said the sizzling beef plate was pretty good, so I just had to come check it out for myself. There are so many options when you come up the trailer and so many customizable things you can do from banh mi's to bowls. I came here set on getting the sizzling beef plate so that's what I got. It's conveniently located in a gas station lot that has quite a selection of drinks in there so I picked up a drink inside after ordering. The beef came out on a sizzling plate that had beef, 2 eggs, and some corn on it. On the side you get a nicely baked french bread and fixings to go inside the bread. The texture of the bread was pretty perfect, crispy on the outside and soft/chewy on the inside. I put all the fixings on the bread and then put some beef in there too to make my own little banh mi sandwich. The portion is large enough to make a whole sandwich and then some. Flavors were spot on and there was not one thing left on my plate. If you're ever in the area, definitely come check them out. I'll be back again to try other stuff too!

Yelp
Excellent Vietnamese food. I like the vermicelli noodles with the pork or beef. Very good. Nice folks as well

Irene M.

Yelp
I ordered the grilled chicken vermicelli as take out for lunch and I ate the entire thing! Usually that isn't the case because there is not a good proportion of ingredients but every bite was delicious. I added the vermicelli fish sauce and peanut sauce and it was perfect. Meat was tender and still a little warm. Highly recommend.
google avatar

Kira S.

Yelp
The food is always hot and fresh. Sometimes they are not open according to their hours online but I just drive by or call beforehand to see if anyone is at the stand. Came here once and now I'm hooked!
google avatar

Elizabeth S.

Yelp
Spent way too long scrolling through UberEats delivery when we happened upon this gem and realized that I tragically haven't had a Banh Mi in quite some time. Kuway's definitely did not disappoint! The grilled beef sandwich was immaculate - stuffed with tender, well-marinated meat and supported by quality bread/veggies. We were pleasantly surprised the delicious pork egg rolls maintained a nice level of crispiness even after delivery. The pork banh mi meat was a little drier, but still delicious as long as you don't forget to add the sauce they give you on the side in a little cup. 10/10 hit the spot, especially for a delivered meal!
google avatar

Shinta S.

Yelp
I like the food from here. I usually get the Fried Rice combo or the Grilled Pork/Chicken bowl. It is usually way too much food for me to eat in one sitting. It's a two-meals dish for me. A couple of times, I got their fruit tea drinks. But the last time I got drinks was around the time we had a freeze weather and a boil-notice. At that time, my tea tasted like metal. It was so bad that I threw it away after the first sip. Since then, I avoid ordering drinks from them. Maybe it was a one-time thing, but I have not braved myself to try again. But I would definitely come back again for the food.
google avatar

Star S.

Yelp
I dont know how i took so long to try this place. It's so good. The chicken is even good! it's got good grilled flavor! The zoodles changed my life. Usually trying to order something somewhat healthy you are put in the position of having to have self control around noodle consumption. The zoodles are actually weirdly, amazingly perfect in the context of a vermicelli bowl. I actually PREFER zoodles to the rice noodes, which is legit insane coming from me as bun/vermicelli bowls are my favorite thing to eat in the world. GET THE ZOODLES
google avatar

Kellie H.

Yelp
I ordered the vermicelli combo for $15. It comes with a big portion of meat plus an egg roll. Plenty of protein for those looking for high protein; however, the flavor is a bit lacking on the meats and in the sauce as well. The egg roll was a bit bland. Overall, nice portion but flavor a bit lacking
google avatar

Phuong P.

Yelp
Food is good, tasty; however it's not completely Viet authentic. I was so excited to try their dishes and I agreed it tasted really good, but it was not the homey feeling that I was looking for. The concept is right, just the taste is not very Viet. This is more fusion/American already. I ordered through app and it got delivered really fast, can't complain. I would still recommend if you feel like missing the sizzling beef concept, but I wouldn't recommend if you are looking for Viet authentic.

Yelp
I had high hopes for Kuway's Banh Mi and was very let down. There's nothing really wrong with the food, it just wasn't that good to me. I've had a lot of banh mi in my life, and I'm pretty spoiled after having some amazing ones in Vietnam for $1, but obviously I don't expect the best every time I get one in America. With the high rating on Yelp, I thought Kuway's would be the best. The bread was wrong, as it wasn't the crunchy French bread I expect on a bahn mi. Past that, the sandwich had no pate. It basically had very little topping other than a lot of chicken. Yes, there was a lot of meat and that's probably a plus in value-land. But it just wasn't all that great to me. I also ordered the spring rolls which were decent. I guess overall I'm just missing why people are in love with this spot. The meal seemed average to me. If you like it, great. But I'll probably be hitting up my other banh mi spots in town. Sorry.

J Charles B.

Yelp
The food here is fantastic, but I'm only giving them 4 stars because they ALWAYS stop taking calls 30 min before they close on Fridays, which also happens to be dinner time.

Katrina M.

Yelp
Terrible. This bread is not slight crisp on outside. It is soft inside and outside. Not like a typical bang mi sandwich is. I ordered no jalapeños and first bite my mouth is on fire. I can't tolerate any peppers. The chicken was extremely dry The coffee was good. There is nothing good about these sandwiches. What a waste of money! What a way to start my night shift. NEVER AGAIN! I regret giving this place a try. I also paid to get it delivered what a huge disappointment! Don't let the reviews fool you too!

Kevin N.

Yelp
The Sizzling skillet reminds me of being in Vietnam it was so good! It's like Asian Fajitas, a must try!!!

Sharon K.

Yelp
I was craving some babh mi and found this local food truck. Customer service was excellent, the food was fresh and so flavorful. The best in town.

Lucy C.

Yelp
Amazing service!!!! Amazing food!!! owners are perfect people I highly recommend their bahn mi!!!

Yelp
I feel sorry for this guy. He is a perfectly respectable cook. He makes lovely Vietnamese food. He has a food truck located at 45th and Burnet AT A GAS STATION. Who the hell wants to eat Vietnamese food outdoors at a gas station? Certainly not me. (And even if I wanted to, there is no place to sit.) So he wraps everything up nice for you so you can take it home. But his menu is all about freshly grilled pork and freshly grilled chicken With the banh or vermicelli to go with it. He also does egg rolls as an appetizer. Grilled pork, grilled chicken and egg rolls all have to be eaten the minute they are brought to your table. Wrap them up in plastic and take them home? You can - but they will be half dead on arrival. He gives you lots of fish sauce to try to revive the half cold meat. And the meat is good enough that even half dead, you can see it was really good once. What this poor fellow needs is a better location. He is almost good enough to qualify for sit with the primo of the primo food trucks at 5000 Burnet. He could certainly qualify for the Mueller food court, which is filled with excellent A-Minus vendors. (Hell, he could even get a straight A in that company.) But making him serve his food next to gasoline is just unfair. * * * Actually, I feel a little less sorry for the guy. I looked at the other reviews - and there are at least sixteen reviews that Yelp flagged as being fake. I read them - and yeah - the computer was right. Those are "factory mill" manufactured reviews. I have sympathy neither for the Houston Astros nor for Yelp ballot box stuffers. The gas station location is its own punishment. (Maybe they should make the Astros play next to a gas station too.)

Jenny L.

Yelp
we have Kuway delivered probably twice to three times a month. our regular order is two tofu banh mi and veggie summer rolls, and they never disappoint. the consistency is perfect, and you know with banh mi sandwiches, that's a good thing. deliveries are always on time, correct, and **chefs kiss (can be vegan friendly)
google avatar

Josh M.

Yelp
It's just a fact that, the world over, some of the best sandwiches in life are dispensed from the confines of parking lots and gas stations. Kuway's is no exception. I have had many a Banh Mi in Austin but none finer than this one.
google avatar

Mimi T.

Yelp
This place is a hidden gem!!!! We luckily discovered this food truck when we were getting some gas. Decided to try it out and they didn't disappoint us at all. The grilled meats were well marinated, super flavorful. Everything tasted soooo good. To me, they were authentic! Plus, the flavored green tea was on point too, not too sweet, not too bitter, just go perfect with the food. Definitely will come back.
google avatar

Khadejah B.

Yelp
I am a spring roll fanatic!!! These are the best spring rolls I've ever had. They actually season the shrimp !!! 10/10 gotta have it !!!!
google avatar

Jake H.

Yelp
Vietnamese food trailer I'm Central Austin. The traditional pork Bahn Mi is so good as are the fried mushrooms, very filling. It definitely satisfied my craving. The slushees are so good too, get Strawberry and Mango mixed together. I'll be back again.
google avatar

Jordana G.

Yelp
Just got delivery from here, pork taco and pork egg rolls. Serving a banh mi in a taco is brilliant. The bread in a traditional one fills me up too much, so the bready homemade grilled tortilla is perfect. Great quality and flavor of tender meat, fresh vegetables, good sauces. Egg rolls were crispy, even after delivery. Prices (for delivery at least) appear high but it's a lot of food so I thought it was quite reasonable if you consider the quantity and quality of the food. $9 gets you two giant tacos stuffed with meat. I could only eat one. Saving the other for later. Highly recommended.
google avatar

Amira B.

Yelp
I tried the Thai iced tea here during my lunch break. It was a good size cup and tasted delicious. Not overly sweet at all.
google avatar

Tyler K.

Yelp
No kidding , u guys should check this out This is beef sizzling ( bo ne ) so good and everything around u is so cute. The food is awesome I recommend this place is one of my best favorite
google avatar

Khai L.

Yelp
I might have found my favorite sandwich place for Bánh mì gà (Chicken Vietnamese sandwich). The meat is not too dry and the seasoning makes the flavor very familiar, perhaps it's the lemongrass. I haven't dissected closely to see if pate and Vietnamese aioli is inside because I don't taste much of them. I like the fact that their jalapenos are cut vertically so the pieces go along the sandwich. The crust of the baguette is not crispy anymore after I take it home. So make sure you try to take a bite as soon as possible. Their grilled pork is also good. I have the feeling that the seasoning is the same as the chicken. I'll come back to try other meats.
google avatar

Michelle T.

Yelp
This is the best Banh mi in austin or better yet anywhere. I love Vietnamese food and when I came across this truck I had to stop. I had one and then went back the following three days. I also brought my husband, my dad, his wife, my best friend and her husband all one in the same few days. Every person that had one wished they had gotten a second one. they also have amazing milk teas, green teas, Vietnamese coffees and bowls Support local businesses and go here! Did I mention it's super affordable? $6 for a sandwich and it's so filling

Eric P.

Yelp
I had the beef banh mi with Thai ice tea. First, I have to say that the bread used was really good. I've had a lot of banh mi and nothing was worse than tasting disappointment on the first bite. I have to say, though, that the grilled beef impressed me less. I think I saw someone write that the flavor was more fusion... and I agree. As I was eating it, I felt like I was almost eating American-style beef with Vietnamese add-ons. It threw me off, to say the least. It does seem to be quite popular, though, so more power to them. I know this isn't their specialty, but I liked their Thai ice tea. It was overly sweet, and I felt like I could really taste the actual flavor as opposed to a water-downed version. Overall, it was good, just not what I expected. I probably will not return for the banh mi, but I may come back for the Thai ice tea!
google avatar

Michelle M.

Yelp
All I ordered today was Shrimp spring rolls and Vietnamese coffee. I'll be back to try the Bahn Mi. The rolls only have shrimp, lettuce, carrot & vermicelli. I think I was missing the taste of Cilantro. It's a great portion for the price though! 3 for $6. Peanut sauce was good. The coffee was Dlish - $4
google avatar

Linh L.

Yelp
Kuway's blew my expectations. It's the most nicely decorated food truck in the area and it reminds me of the food stands in Vietnam. Took my cousins there and they were blown away by the amazingly delicious Bo Ne ( grilled beef ) over a sizzling plate. I also had the Vietnamese coffee that went well with the food. Would definitely be back!
