Kwan’s Deli - Review - Downtown Atlanta - Atlanta - The Infatuation

"The next time you’re walking around Centennial Olympic Park, look across the knoll in the direction of the College Football Hall of Fame and see if you can spot Kwan’s Deli. Yep, that’s the sandwich shop and Korean kitchen there, just past the guy doing wheelies on his scooter. The area mainstay that kinda feels like a hospital cafeteria has never done much with signage or parking. As they see it, if they keep delivering a well-rounded menu of standouts like tuna melts, lamb gyros, and spicy chicken bibimbap, city workers and out-of-towners will keep finding them. And from the look of the buzzy dining room and steady stream of takeout orders, they’re spot on. photo credit: Tabia S. Lisenbee-Parker photo credit: Tabia S. Lisenbee-Parker" - DeMarco Williams

Google
Great food. Nice variety of dishes, including some fun and unexpected options like the bulgogi fries. Their salads are tasty too. Nice portion sizes. Excellent lunch or dinner option to please many different palates. Walking distance from the aquarium and world of coke.

Google
A great find! Delicious Korean food in downtown Atlanta—surprisingly authentic for its location. Generous portions, not skimpy on the meat—the bibimbap and bulgogi are on point! Reasonable prices for the quality and quantity. Informal setting, great for lunch!

Bill Yu

Google
We were so glad to find this resto after becoming quite hungry after our World of Coca-Cola and Georgia Aquarium visits because not only was it just a stone’s throw away from these 2 sites, everyone was able to choose what they wanted to eat from a wide array of individual sweet meals. Price for the Korean bento (galbi or bulgogi) is a bit on the high side but the beef is good quality and the taste is authentic enough. The fried chicken wings are smallish but fresh and tasty.

Chrysi Davis

Google
This was in a great location right outside of the Centennial Olympic Park in easy walking distance of world of Coca-Cola and the aquarium and the football Hall of Fame. The bento box looked amazing. The orange chicken was really good. The bulgogi sandwich might have been better without tomato and cheese. It was a cute and cozy place. Just left a star off because the floor was so sticky.

Google
The food here was delicious. I got a bento box with some sushi, meat, tempura and miso and it was all great. About $20, so a little on the pricy side for what you get. The menu is a little too big there’s sushi, Korean, but then also burgers and sandwiches. The place wasn’t super cozy, the tables were all so sticky, food came quickly. Overall good experience

Google
I randomly walked into this little restaurant whiling touring around Atlanta city center, and found out it is such a hidden gem. The food tastes just like Mom…. It was so comforting to have a meal that made me feel I am back home. I am not exaggerating—just by tasting the pickles and marinated veggies you will know the that the chef is serious about his food. The people and service were also very kind. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who wants authentic home-cooked Korean food!!!!!!!!!!

Cihan Y.

Google
A small, fine restaurant right next to the Georgia Aquarium. The tables were clean, the staff very friendly, and the food was excellent! It's cooked with fresh ingredients, and it's delicious! Thank you 🙌

Google
Decent place, somewhat expensive for the overall quality. $25 for a beef bento box menu. The serving time was about 15-20 minutes even when I went around 8pm, which took surprisingly long wait time.

Yelp
This place really hit the spot for me! I was craving Korean bbq but I can never eat my $ worth at AYCE (all you can eat buffets) Their menu isn't limited to Korean food. They offered sandwiches and gyros as well. Galbi - served with rice and 2 veggie sides. The side it came with was a cabbage with cold noodle and pickles Spicy Korean Chicken - grilled chicken served with rice and the same 2 side dishes mentioned. This isn't actually spicy (I'm one to only eat mild sauces) It had a nice tang to it. Fried dumplings - served with fish sauce. It was yummy Overall fairly priced good quick eats.

Yelp
We decided to try this spot before heading to World of Coca Cola! It's right by Centennial Olympic Park as well, and it did not disappoint! I had seen that this place had great reviews, so I wanted to see what it was all about. Since we were there on a Saturday during lunch, it actually wasn't super crowded. I ordered the bulgogi beef and my friend ordered the bibimbap. For the good quality of the beef, the dishes were around $15 each which isn't bad at all! The bulgogi was incredibly tasty, delicious, and melted in my mouth. The food also came out very quickly, but you can tell it was also super fresh. My friend also really enjoyed her bibimbap as well, and said everything tasted super fresh. A great downtown casual spot if you want to grab a quick bite!

Yelp
I took the kiddos to the Children's Museum and needed a healthier alternative to what most of the nearby restaurants offered. Lucky for us, we found this hidden gem not too far - about a 5 minute walk across the park. I was surprised to see the variety in the menu here - options ranged from salads, sandwiches, wings, and authentic Korean food! The kids quickly devoured their galbi plate and even went for the side dishes that came with. I opted for the bulgogi plate and was equally impressed. Very thankful to have found great Korean food in the heart of the city. I'm not sure if we came at peak hour or if it's always this crowded but in taking a step back to look around, I knew there was something special here after seeing the diversity in the customers, all coming together to enjoy this food.

Yelp
Located within walking distance from the aquarium and Coke museum makes it a convenient and accessible spot for lunch if you are in the area already. There's a pretty wide offering (some deli options, salads, grilled sandwiches, soups and some classic Korean dishes such as gabli and bulgogi) making it a good spot for groups. The staff were polite and they would bring the food to you when it's ready, in one time use styrofoam trays. I got the Korean spicy chicken and my friend got the chicken katsu). It was honestly just ok, tasted like ready meals from the super market reheated. For the price it's not bad at all and a healthier alternative to some other fast food options close by. Though I don't think I'd come back.

Yelp
Came here after visiting the aquarium to grab a bite for lunch. I was excited at first because I love Korean food and liked the idea of a deli. I ordered the bulgogi plate and sadly it just didn't have as much flavor as I was hoping (compared to some of the Korean food I've had in other parts of town such as many restaurants I've been to in Duluth). Although, I still think coming here was a better choice than some of the other food options in the area downtown, I don't think I would come back.
google avatar

Nisha B.

Yelp
I really loved this place! I ordered the bibimbap with chicken, but it was such a hard choice because they have so many good options. I love getting sandwiches so I'm gonna have to come back to get one of their sandwiches which all sounded very delicious. The place was nice and clean and had a diner type of vibe. It was also pretty cool how it was an underground feel and it's slightly below the street level. The service was very quick and the food was delicious and fresh. Parking can be a challenge downtown especially because of all of the traffic but would definitely recommend if you're in the area .I would definitely be back.

Yelp
A great hidden find downtown while we were looking for dinner before a Hawks game! Kwan's is tucked away in a side street and is run by a very sweet couple. Their menu is pretty big and they have all sorts of cuisines, and we tried the bulgogi plate and chicken tenders and fries with their spicy sauce. Food came out really quickly which was nice since we were in a bit of a rush to get to the game! The bulgogi was so good and I'm a sucker for banchan so I really enjoyed the noodles and cucumber too! The chicken and fries were both super crispy and they paired well with the hot sauce. My bf and I have been trying to go to more sporting events this year so I will definitely be back at Kwan's if I'm looking for something cheap and fast!

Yelp
I was looking for Asian food before a basketball game at State Farm Arena. I found it here on Yelp. The location was super good near Centennial Olympic Park. I ordered Bibimbap. The price was around $14 which was reasonable. The food was a bit spicy. It was okay. Overall, this was a great restaurant. When you visit Centennial Park, please grab the Korean food here.
google avatar

Yelp
This was a very easy in and out place if your in a hurry! You get in a line that moves quickly, order what you want and take a number, and await the Korean goodness! They have a lot of pictures and descriptions for all the newbies, and the eatery is extremely clean and inviting! The staff were super friendly, and the food was flavorful, so good, and enough for another meal later....what more could you ask for?!
google avatar

Apex S.

Yelp
You order at the counter and they bring the food to you. We got the chicken katsu, it arrived quickly, and it was a substantial portion. Two of us split it for lunch and it was more than enough. The chicken was crispy and light and the accompanying curry was yummy. On the side we received marinated cucumbers, veggie salad, and rice. All the sides were fresh and went very well with the fried chicken, there were a couple of cucumber pieces that were very bitter but I guess that's a type of cucumber? IDK. Overall great value for money. They also had outdoor seating and it was the perfect day to sit outside and enjoy this lunch.

Yelp
Really happy to stumble on some Korean food after visiting the aquarium. We got the bibimbap and the dumplings and it was plenty for 2 people to share. The bibimbap had a good mix of vegetables and seasoning. The dumplings came fried which was a bit unexpected but also had dipping sauce. There is a bathroom for customers and the couple that work there are quite nice.

Colditz K.

Yelp
This place came heavily recommended as the lunch spot between an aquarium and coca cola visit. While I do appreciate the option of having some korean food, my spicy bulgogi was terribly executed. There was basically a normal bulgogi cooked without the spicy sauce and then just a mountain of gochujang squeezed out on top. Just adding raw gochujang to cooked bulgogi doesn't make it spicy, and it definitely doesn't preserve any "good flavors" Other than that this is saved because the price was very reasonable for being in a tourist trap and probably beter than any of the other options.

Javier T.

Yelp
This is a small deli type location across from Olympic Park. The ambiance is not fine dining but the food was very good and the service was fast. Maybe priced a little high but I'd go back again.
google avatar

Jessica A.

Yelp
Around the corner from the hotel where I'm staying is this little gem of a deli & Korean kitchen. Its popularity was evidently by the steady stream of diners coming in. Place your order at the counter, fill up your cup at the drink station, and find an open table. Your meal will be delivered to you steaming hot from the kitchen. The bulgogi was delicious and more food than I could eat! The interior is fairly simple when it comes to the counter, tables and chairs, but don't let its simplicity fool you. If you are looking for lunch in downtown ATL, be sure to give this place a try. You will not be disappointed!

Yelp
Great food, great service and quick service. However, I wasn't a fan of the plastic disposable trays. It was surprising there were American sandwiches and gyros but it would've been cool if there was a Korean inspired sandwich on the menu I ordered the galbi and fried dumplings
google avatar

Mihir C.

Yelp
Very poor service and food that did match the menu, was told two banchan with the bibim bap which was not given, would highly not recommend
google avatar

Daniel G.

Yelp
Quick, decent, fresh, efficient, great view, low key, clean. I wish I ordered the dumplings too. But as you can see the bibimbap was good to the last bite.
google avatar

Sherry C.

Yelp
Excellent food. Their crispy tofu is amazing! Husband had spicy Korean chicken and he gets it every time we go. You order at the counter and they bring the food to you. You can either pick up a soda or water from their cooler or hit a small soft drink machine for refills.
google avatar

Jurel H.

Yelp
I was pleasantly surprised about this place. I was expecting a dingy hole in the wall. But the restaurant was clean and had plenty of seating. I ordered the original gyro, and it comes with a side. The gyro was made with fresh ingredients, and tasted really good. No complaints at all about this place.

Yelp
Reviews Background. I was at Dragon Con & didn't want to eat in the food court. Yelp showed that this hem was a 9 minute walk away. Atmosphere. It's a deli but modern. Pleasant colors of muted orange, blue and lime green; Clean, tiled floors; stainless steel tables w/ modern chairs. 5 stars Cleanliness. All employees were working hard to maintain the cleanliness of the tables, bars and floors. It was a reassuring sight. 5 stars Bathroom. It's a standard bathroom that's clean but not personalized. 4 stars Customer service. Again. It's a Korean deli. You're going to get competent staff, but not that over the top "all smiles" that you're going to get at a bar and grill. 4 stars Plates and silverware. Standard chopsticks or plastic forks. 4 stars. Food. Crispy tofu, white rice, and 2 banchan. Everything was extremely tasty. 5 stars Price. Under $15 Overall Experience. 5 stars

Yelp
There was a large lunch crowd with the line out of the door at times. While the inside is tight on maneuverability it's sufficient. We got our new plates to go. The portion size was generous and food was so tasty. I'd totally visit again if I'm in the area.

Yelp
Lots of selection real close to the hotel downtown there it was a while ago. I was there, but I remember thinking it was pretty good selection pretty good price pretty good option and quick service and lots of options.
google avatar

Kiki V.

Yelp
My favorite type of food spot: simple, fast, and tasty. The chicken katsu was perfectly crisp, juicy, and tender. The beef bulgogi was on the salty side, but very tender. Everything was flavorful and the food came out in less than 10 minutes. There is nice little outdoor seating that looks onto Centennial Park.
google avatar

Jill H.

Yelp
Yum! We were visiting Olympic Park in downtown Atlanta and wanted a quick meal, but not the usual fast food choices. We found Kwans Deli and enjoyed an excellent lunch as our reward. Believe it or not, I've never had Korean food. Given that, I honestly can't speak to how authentic it was. I can say, my entire platter of Kwans Katsu was fantastic. My son and husband both chose the Bibimbap with teriyaki and enjoyed their meals as well. Skip the national chains and come to Kwans!
google avatar

April C.

Yelp
Highly recommend this place! Staff were so friendly and the food was incredible!!!! The restaurant is located by the Embassy suits with a nice eating space inside and outside. You can see the Centennial Olympic Park from the outside seating. Would have been nice but it was too cold when I went. This place is a must
google avatar

Daniel B.

Yelp
Super fast and excellent food. The bulgogi was amazing and had just the right amount of spice. Side of rice goes well and everyone working there is very friendly.
google avatar

Christina H.

Yelp
Give this place a chance! I was a little disappointed walking in, as it had a very, very casual vibe to it. I was expecting more. However, the food was to die for! Especially the cucumber salad! To this day, I have not been able to find a comparable cucumber salad anywhere. It's because they let it marinade for a long time, I guess. So good!
google avatar

Roland S.

Yelp
The food here is really good. Comes out in about 2 minutes or less. The Galbi is pricey but man, all the flavors in the dishes we had were amazing. My favorite was the katsu. It was topped with a sauce that took it to another level. The galbi was very tender and full of flavor. The dumplings were tasty and had a good dipping sauce. The spicy chicken was ok. I don't think I'd get it again. Each dish came with rice, a spinach salad, and pickled cucumbers. All these were perfect compliments to the meat. Can't miss food In Atlanta. Loved it.
google avatar

Maurita C.

Yelp
The Crispy Tofu was so delicious! The sauces in everything were outstanding. Owners explained items we didn't know what they were!

Yelp
Nice! Go! If you are in this area you cant go wrong with this little place. After a rough start, I got my food and hoovered it down! Delicious. Let me explain. I had come to downtown Atlanta for a visit to the Georgia Aquarium. The tickets are still timed entry but, I had gotten there early and parked. With an hour before my entry time, I decided to check out a highly recommended breakfast spot across the street. As I walked up to the place I could see at least a dozen people already waiting for a table so, I decided to move on to find something else. As I looked left then right I saw absolutely no sign of someplace to eat in the concrete jungle so, I picked up the pace. Moving around behind the Aquarium building into another part of downtown, I hurriedly walked down the street. Glancing left then right as I passed the cross streets. Finally, up ahead a block or so, I saw a potential place with a Deli sign hanging out. Someone was standing in front of the door waiting which was a good sign. Looking at the hours open 10:30 am, yes. Perfect since I had to get back to the Aquarium for entry at 11. A watched pot never boils, the clock never moves....etc. This is where everything seemed to go into slow motion. Finally, the door was unlocked at 10:40 and I was first in line. There was a man and woman behind the counter with their backs to me. Wrapping what appeared to be a huge stack of chicken pieces. After standing there a couple of minutes I said,"excuse me" to get their attention. She turned and looked over her shoulder and said, give me five minutes! What I thought to myself and waited another minute. I knew what I wanted and saw the cook standing in the kitchen doing nothing. So I spoke up and said nicely" can you please take my order, I'm in a hurry" She begrudgingly wiped her hands and took my order. I took a number, found a seat, and waited. About 10 minutes lapsed and a man brought me out a to-go container. I had told her for here but.. I opened up the container and was stunned at how delicious the food looked and smelled. there was a small spinach salad with some type of vinaigrette. Slices of pinkish something that looked like potatoes. But, when I bit into them it was a superlative chunk of apple, with I don't know what seasoning. I then dug into the bulgogi as Id never had it before. As I dug in, the steam rose off the top and I could tell it was super hot. The first bit, Home Run! Wow, the flavors were fantastic. All that I know is, it was marinated beef cooked Korean Style and I liked it. I haven't eaten that quickly in years but I sucked it down and was off to the aquarium. Highly recommended. Go!!!

Kyle G.

Yelp
Dropped in here while visiting and seeing they had Korean food. That being said, that's only a out 6 items on their menu. They also have a mish mash of other items: sandwiches, gyros, etc. We ordered bibimbap. The tofu was really good and so was the bulgogi, but the rest of the dish was just okay. If you do order this, the spinach it comes with is not wilted which is a bit odd. Prices are fairly standard ($10-15/entree) and service was quick. It's located in a nice spot near Centennial Park.

Art S.

Yelp
A long line for food while I'm at a conference on lunch. No worries, probably worth the wait. Order a Bipimbop and it was really good. One problem, their American deli style food just looked a lot better than what I had. I really wish I got their Reuben, which my buddy was raving about. Next time I'm in Atlanta I guess
google avatar

Jeremiah M.

Yelp
The area around Olympic park is awash with chain restaurants or Coca-Cola themed dining. Trying to find a nice spot after a couple of hours after aquarium was a bit of a search but I decided to trust the reviews and I wanted some Bi-Bim Bap. The space is small and bustling, but clean. I got the Bi-Bim Bap, my wife the Philly (no mushrooms) and the kid got the kids grilled cheese and fries. The fries were wonderful and both my wife and kid gorged on them. The Philly was full of meat, peppers and cheese and my wife devoured it. The kids grilled cheese comes standard with American cheese, which my daughter doesn't like and I wish I had asked for a different cheese. The star was the Bi-Bim Bop, it was massive and full of veggies. Instead of an egg on top, which I have had before, the egg was in a cold cut omelette which played perfectly with the hot bulgolgi and rice. The Gojuchang played with everything perfectly and when the plate came out I thought there was no way I could eat it I ended up finishing most everything except the rice. Delicious.
google avatar

Yelp
Super good lunch options by the convention center - perfect for me as I was in town for a conference. Tried a bunch of things and all great, and got some kimchi and Korean chips snacks to go

Yelp
We visited Kwan's Deli and Korean Kitchen for a quick lunch fix by randomly browsing restaurants with good reviews on Yelp. The decor is simple, humble but really clean & bright. The options on the menu are limited and we just ordered one Beef Bulgogi Plate to share with two of us. The portion was enough with reasonable price and the taste was surprisely good, though not the best Bulgogi we have ever had but pretty decent for a Deli.
google avatar

Olga H.

Yelp
What happens when a deli and a korean restaurant have a baby. You can get some classic deli sandwiches and korean dishes. Chicken katsu is mot Korean, but they offer it and we had our 5 and 7 year old split it. Katsu is drizzled with tonkatsu, but the sauce they serve it with is orange and tastes different, but good. The galbi looks amazing, but for about $15 I got the beef bulgogi. For a dollar more they can make it spicy. It comes with spinache in some sort of dressing, white rice, and pickles cucumbers. VERY filling. Order at the counter and they bring the food out. Lots of tables to eat at and extremely close to all of the downtown attractions. We hopped over after visiting the World of Coca-Cola.

Yelp
I've personally have not been to Atlanta in at least a decade, so I wasn't sure what was available in the Centennial Park area. I came here to take my kids on a fall break vacation, so I knew my options of restaurants were relatively limited to things they liked. To make things harder, Atlanta is a bit on a lockdown, so things that would normally be open were either closed, had modified hours, or didn't allow for dine-in. One of the few places that were open was Kwan's. Being Korean, I knew what my kids liked in terms of Korean food and they were more than willing to eat "grandma's" food (as they call it). Kwan's definitely hit the spot but it is a bit expensive. I ordered the galbi plate (Korean marinated short ribs) for my kids and a bibimbap (mixed rice) for me. The galbi was good. Tender, fatty, savory, & sweet. It came with a side of rice and a side of cut apples tossed in gochujang (red pepper paste). It cost me roughly the same as it would a real sit-down Korean restaurant. So with that said, know the "quality" is lunch quality. Meaning my bibimbap was already premade with the bulgogi (marinated beef) was added at the last minute. This place is a bit dangerous. I know if Nashville had a place like this (quick Korean food), it would probably do well. If you want something different for lunch and like Korean food, give this a shot.
google avatar

David W.

Yelp
No frills. Delicious and quick. This place is a great takeout spot near Centennial Olympic Park. My tourist self was very pleased to arrive on a dry-ish, sunny day and eat my bulgogi bibimbap outside facing the gorgeous scenery. The food hit the spot. The only thing that could've been better was cooked spinach instead of raw, but it added a salad feel to the bibimbap. Didn't hate it.
google avatar

Tierra S.

Yelp
The best thing about my meal was the cucumber and cabbage kimchi. The spinach salad also had a good flavor. The Korean Spicy Chicken was disappointing. It was drowned in spicy sauce and the chicken had no real flavor. I would not order it again but I will definitely be back to try another dish.

Yelp
Great food!! We wanted close to the Aquarium/Olympic Park before we moved our car from downtown parking. This Hidden Gem has a deli menu and Korean BBQ. We chose the deli side with a chicken gyro (in house marinaded chicken), Buffalo chicken grilled sandwich, Corned beef Ruben & BLT w/avocado. The cucumber salad was a phenomenal side choice. ALL were wonderful!! Eat here!

John E.

Yelp
Great spot for a reasonably priced and delicious lunch or dinner right beside centennial park. Bibimbap with tofu was fantastic and the portion was large. My wife ordered the vegetarian gyro and loved it.
google avatar

Duni Olivia O.

Yelp
Since this is across the street from stadium and other large attractions, the parking situation is bad. Its good for people who are already in the area. Otherwise, be prepared to pay $20-30 to park.
google avatar

Dong B.

Yelp
What a gem of a find. We really loved the two different menu options. Sandwiches or Korean dishes. The Cuban sandwich was really good. Good Cuban sandwiches are all about that bread. This one has the right bread for a heck of a sandwich. My son jumped at the bacon cheese fries and it did not disappoint. Crispy fries. Melty gooey cheese. And crispy bacon bits combined to perfection. The rest of the family went for the Korean dishes. Oh me oh my. Really hit the spot. Although it only has 2 side dishes and neither were Kim chi, it was still really good.
google avatar

Sara G.

Yelp
Spicy Bulgogi was awesome! It was enough for my husband and I share! Wide variety to choose from.

Jiwei F.

Yelp
The food is great and it is made fresh. Service is good and close to the aquarium and world of coca-cola.
google avatar

Skimmilk K.

Yelp
Solid place. I agree w someone else's review that it's like if a traditional deli and a Korean food truck had a baby. They have both regular deli things and some Korean dishes. We had the bibimbap which was pretty tasty after finishing a tour at World of Coca Cola. Service was fast, food was tasty. There was a variety of people there like families stopping off for a bite and people who were having their lunch break from work day.

Yelp
Needed a quick meal, this place is close to GWCC. Got the Galbi plate, the short ribs had good flavor, but the noodles side dish not real Japchae. The bibinbap my friend had was a little heavy on the goguchang. It's a deli so no ambiance & not much service either.

Yelp
Stopped here because we were hungry and this was close by. Ordered the Beef Bulgogi, which was alright. The sauce was pretty good, although it was also served with a little bit of pasta salad (?) and a couple pieces of steamed kind of bland broccoli. Definitely a little Americanized, but not bad as a quick bite. Giving this 4 stars because of my boyfriend's comments about his dish: He ordered the Bibimbap with Tofu. The bibimbap was just okay, pretty hard to mess that part up, but the tofu was "the best tofu I've ever had". Crispy but crumbly on the outside with great flavor and texture. And it went well with the other parts of the bibimbap and spicy sauce. "I never thought tofu could be the star of a dish until I ate this." Guess I ordered the wrong thing.

Yelp
Amazing and authentic Korean food. Wish I'd have found this place earlier during my time in ATL. I had the bulgogi beef plate and it was so tasty. I'll be back whenever I visit downtown Atlanta.
