Sanso Kyoyamato

"This historic ryotei is best known as the place where samurai loyal to the emperor met for secret talks in the last days of the shogunate. The spacious grounds accommodate the main building, a tea arbour and a garden. The chef carefully selects the ingredients and serving dishes, putting great effort into presenting food that pleases the eye. The ‘Nishiki-Kasane’, a two-tier lunch box, is the crowning jewel of the menu. The first tier is a colourful assortment of items, the second a takiawase." - Michelin Inspector

BEST DINING EXPERIENCE EVER. This place has blown my mind away. By the time I entered the door, I was taken care of by all the staff here. You will receive all the instructions and information you need. You are dining at your own private room with access to a backyard. It’s like a movie scene. Quiet and relaxing. Plating is exquisite and food quality is excellent. Every single ingredient (all seasonal best choice) is perfectly complimenting each other. And the order of serving them is just right. I’ll never forget about the experience and definitely come back again if I get a chance.

We stayed at the Park Hyatt and requested the concierge to make reservations here one month before our arrival. The food was fantastic, and the staff were so kind. We enjoyed every single dish, from the soups and sushimi to the wonderful seared Spanish mackerel. Besides the lunch, you will enjoy a fantastic view of the Hōkan-ji Temple and will be delighted by the sound of the garden’s fountain. The owner came to welcome us, and she explained several of the dishes. She was so kind! I highly recommend this place!

Outstanding Kyoyamato! is a one star Micheline Restaurant - offers a culinary gem, seasonally-inspired, authentic, traditional Japanese Kaiseki cuisine. Nestled in one of the historic teahouses within its ancient garden, accessible through the stone steps of the newly opened Park Hyatt Kyoto. Rooted in history since 1877 during Japan's Meiji Era, run by the same family for six generations, you will experience outstanding tastes and flavors at this cherished culinary institution.

Great experience! Fantastic food and service. Will come back next time in Kyoto. Thanks for showing us 送陽亭 on my check out day!w Really recommend this place for dinner or lunch if you would like to try authentic Japanese 懐石料理. The building itself is a historical site with a beautiful garden and carries interesting history stories of late Edo/ early Meiji period. If you are a Japanese history lover (especially for Sakamoto Ryoma fan), don’t miss this place!w

Dining at Kyoyamato reminds us what is so special and alluring about Kyoto. One finds oneself enveloped in the historical beauty of the city, experiencing the very definition of omotenashi. Each course of the meal was prepared with the utmost care and attentiveness. Nothing of the sort could be achieved without a dedicated team, which we found out had run the establishment for seven generations since the Meiji era. We definitely enjoyed their service here.

Not a customer, leaving a review because this restaurant is super racist and disrespectful to foreigners. My partner was waiting for me near their entrance, underneath a rooftop area in a raining day. He was told by a man and then a woman that he couldn’t go in because they are Japanese and he’s not. Then they put up a bamboo gate to block the entire entrance to make sure that he couldn’t go inside. This very intentionally discriminatory attitude 100% represents their service standard

Expensive, and research what you are getting yourself into. Once you do its it's amazing. We were alone in a room while courses were brought in one at a time. Overall took just over 2 hours. It's very good japanese haute cuisine.
