L'Auberge Del Mar is a Safe Bet in California's Del Mar

"L’Auberge Del Mar is celebrated for its opening day after party, a highlight of the horse racing season in Del Mar. The hotel, managed by Noble House Hotels & Resorts and owned by Pebblebrook Hotel Trust since 2018, underwent a $10 million renovation completed in 2021. This transformation has been well-received, especially with the Breeders’ Cup hosted nearby. The hotel, located at 15th Street and Camino Del Mar, has a rich history dating back to 1910 and remains a beloved local venue. It features pet-friendly amenities, a collaboration with Bird Rock Coffee Roasters, and a new restaurant, Adelaide, led by chef James Montejano, offering 'California coastal cuisine.' The hotel is a blend of modern luxury and historical charm, with oceanfront views, a pool, and a gallery of archival photos displaying its historical significance." - Abby Aguirre

L’Auberge Del Mar

"On the southern California coast between San Diego and Carlsbad, the airy Auberge del Mar feels like a world unto itself. It is most famous for its spa, and for good reason—treatments like a rosemary salt scrub, a sea stone massage, and a soothing body wrap utilize fresh local ingredients for a relaxed, back-to-nature vibe. Request an ocean-view room on the second or third floor, have a glass of wine on your private balcony, and then sleep with the windows open."

"Why we love it: A laidback but luxurious coastal retreat set in one of Southern California’s loveliest villages The Highlights: - Comfortable, light-filled rooms with private balconies - Outdoor dining with ocean views - A beautiful beach just a short walk down the hill The Review: Self-described as “your home by the sea,” L’Auberge Del Mar feels more like a mansion plucked from a Nancy Meyers movie. The immaculate property comprises 121 estate-style bedrooms set around a central pool and dining terrace just steps from a textbook SoCal beach. Rooms are full of welcoming touches—plush bedding, marble bathrooms, private balconies or patios, and carefully curated books on local topics—while facilities include several upscale dining and drinking options as well as two tennis courts, a 24-hour fitness center, and an award-winning spa. The hotel even welcomes dogs—and remembers them from previous visits—adding a personal touch to every stay. Stop by the Living Room for cocktails and regular live music, savor fish tacos at the outdoor Shoreline restaurant as the sun dips into the Pacific, or end the night by the firepits at Bleu Bar. During the day, head to nearby Powerhouse Park and Beach for surfing, swimming and sunbathing, or Torrey Pines State Natural Reserve for hiking. Both Del Mar village and neighboring La Jolla offer upscale shopping and dining, and San Diego is less than 30 minutes on the freeway. Should you wish to stay closer to “home,” there are Electra Beach Cruisers available to rent as well as a village shuttle that covers a one-mile radius around town."

"Last up, L’Auberge Del Mar, a beachfront resort in the town of Del Mar, isn’t new, but it just did complete a renovation with a design that combines traditional with contemporary. The transformed lobby has a neutral color palette with tan, taupe, and ivory hues, and the 121 guest rooms have been upgraded with new furniture and carpets."

What a beautiful day we had rocking wellness on the Southern Pacific Coast in Del Mar at this resort. We were truly pampered women warriors and started the event with relaxed yoga, ocean breezes, sunshine and support! Everyone greeted us with a smile! Vendors were there with resources and giveaways- we made flower arrangements, crowns, got massages, did crafts and summed it all up with a catered luncheon! The food was delicious and healthy. VIP valet parking, the premises are so well kept, the lounge is comfortable and well laid out for either privacy or a meet & greet. Every room has an ocean view. I will certainly come back next year and make a point to visit in between privately - because this place is divine, indeed! Thanks for hosting all of us women warriors and for supporting all veterans/military and first response! 💝✨🤘

We had an amazing stay at L'Auberge Del Mar. The hotel was stunning—beautifully updated with modern finishes and stylish furnishings. Our room was exceptional, featuring an incredibly comfortable bed, luxurious bedding, a marble bathroom, and a breathtaking ocean view from the balcony. The hot tub was a perfect temperature for the cool May evening. On Saturday night, there was a gorgeous wedding on the rooftop, and we enjoyed listening to the music from the hot tub. It wrapped up around 10:30 p.m., allowing for a peaceful and restful night’s sleep. The staff was extremely courteous, and the valet service was top-notch. We will absolutely return to this beautiful hotel and highly recommend it to anyone considering a stay—don’t hesitate to book your room!

L'Auberge Del Mar Resort was an excellent experience. Valet makes it convenient and speedy process to check in. At Check in we were received with champagne. Wow. Rooms were ready at 3pm. Our room was big and spacious. All white. Looks nice. French doors open towards ocean view. It has a small balcony with 2 chairs where my Wife and I drank the champagne. That's a Welcome!!! Property is very clean and nicely decorated. Bar is nicely stocked with all spirits, wines, and beers. Across the street are various vibrant bars and tasty restaurants. L'Auberge Del Mar Resort is the place to stay while visiting San Diego area.

Fabulous experience! The spa is charming and quiet with just the right touches and ambiance to encourage relaxation and leaving stress behind. I had the lovely enjoyment of visiting twice during my stay. A heavenly facial with Shay and then truly one of the best massage experiences ever with America! Cristal was a pleasure to chat with while I was checking out and I was even gifted a Mother's Day tote after my mother's glow facial. Also want to give a shout out to Dave at the pool bar - delicious mimosas and great energy. Our room (thanks to Andres) overlooked the garden and the quaint entrance to the spa - all around a lovely stay and just what we needed!

Our company hosted an offsite meeting at L'Auberge and the entire process, from inquiry to the close out the event, was phenomenal. Ana, our manager of the event, was so professional, kind and helpful. I felt like a VIP customer the entire process. The AV MGR Travis and Banquet Manager Trevor were also wonderful. Our staff raved about the event from the food to the room and the service. 10/10 recommend. Location is also gorgeous!

An absolute top of the line location for a wedding! I was there doing hair and makeup and everything is so elegant and beautiful. The rooms are spacious with excellent lighting and the grounds are gorgeous. Staff is amazing, helpful, polite, everything you would want in a luxury property.

Hidden gem! Great location - it’s a 5 minute walk to the beach and plenty of restaurants to try nearby. Their restaurant is quite good. ||||Sean from Valet is amazing and took such great care of our car! He went above and beyond with his local recommendations and was so friendly. If corporate/GM is reading this, please give Sean a raise/promotion for such outstanding service.

I did not stay at the hotel. I spent a day at the spa with a friend. I have to say this was the best massage I ever had. The staff at the spa and restaurant were amazing. The space is beautiful and serene and we spent a lovely day getting pampered and laying out by the pool and jacuzzi. The cost was really reasonable and all inclusive, which made it extra nice. Definitely go there if you get the chance!

Yelp
L'Auberge is French and means lodge or inn. L'Auberge Del Mar is a small hotel north of San Diego in the city of Del Mar, with beach views and offers many amenities. Over two decades ago, I stayed at L'Auberge in Sedona Arizona and had an excellent experience; surrounded by red rock canyon, nestled next to a running stream, and the menu offered french country cuisine. Because of such a wonderful experience, I hoped a stay here at L'Auberge Del Mar would be Trés Bien... This hotel is not grand, small pool but the pool lounge, lobby lounge, restaurant and spa were above average. Our suite had all the necessities for a comfortable stay including balcony with ocean views and very dog friendly; my pup felt at ease. Would have preferred a larger pool, unobstructed ocean views and direct beach access. Service from the entire staff was excellent, all very cordial and helpful. After a couple weeks in Paris for a work/pleasure vacation, we were exhausted and needed another vacation to decompress, relax from feeling jet lag. L'Auberge was just the right place, it's far away enough from the city of San Diego, across from the beach, and it's French flair was perfect to ease back from a French vacation into our SoCal life. Recommend

Yelp
I was really looking forward to my stay. I stayed at L'Auberge in Sedona some time ago. I found the staff as well as the guests to be cold and not very welcoming. OK about the guests, but certainly not OK for the staff. They were very functional, no smiles or concierge like service which is what I was expecting. My room was supposed to have a view. To my right it overlooked an empty lot and trash bin. Beautiful property located in a lovely little town. It's a short walk to the beach. The beach is gorgeous.

Yelp
My hubby has been wanting to check out this hotel for years. We decided to try it since it was part of Capitol One's Premier Collection hotel. This gives us a $100 experience credit, $60 for breakfast, complementary upgrade, and early check-in/ check out. My first impression of the hotel is how small it was. The valet staff were all super helpful and kind. They also helped us rent the bikes (2 free hours). You must use your phone and credit card to rent. The view from the lobby of the ocean is nice, but honestly, the hotel is on a hill, and there are condos blocking much of the ocean. Plus, the pool and people in swimsuits seem to dominate the view. The pool is small. The lounge chairs were pretty full. Towards the end of the day, it was a mess. They also have a tennis court that is off to the side of the property. It seemed like an afterthought. We arrived around 11:30 a.m. hoping to get an early check-in. Our room wasn't ready until 3:15. We did get an upgrade to a king cabana, which was a pleasant surprise. The front desk staff were professional. We even got a box of truffles. We were offered sparkling wine or water. The cabana king that we stayed in was small. It seems a bit outdated. The whole hotel has a musty, old smell to it. Room 117 is right in the corner. There was an anniversary party in front of our room. It made going out in the patio very unpleasant. I discovered curtains that you can close though! I didn't really like the scent of the bathroom amenities. They didn't blow me away. The refrigerator coffee maker doesn't quite fit with the luxury hotel. Also, they offer a key to the mini bar. They seem to try to nickle and dime you for everything here. The snacks seem like they have been sitting there collecting dust. Everything at this hotel is pricey, even the M&Ms. The bed was comfortable. The TV was big and in working order. There were plenty of lighting. The Cabana Patio had these steps pr concrete bench that confused me as what they were for. The last guest left a dog toy and treat. I was also surprised they didn't have turndown service. The golf cart service to the beach was great. It isn't that long of a walk to the beach. We ended up walking most of the time so that we didn't have to wait. Sam who was the beach chauffer is great at him job! Super friendly and helpful. Just know that he drops you off and you will have to cross the street and set up your own chair and umbrella. Finally, we tried to get a late check out and we were told it would be complimentary up until 12p.m. and then $50 per hour thereafter. I feel like this hotel is not worth the price they are asking for. I am a Hyatt loyalist. I will stick to Hyatt. They far surpass Lauberge in service, value and amenities.

Yelp
First time here and had an amazing New Years! I loved the different couch areas for relaxing and mingling, large bar, and outside was stunning. The outside area overlooked the waterfall, pool, and had ocean views. I hear they offer a great brunch so I'll be back to try that too.

Yelp
The common area bar, lobby, pool, etc. are beautiful. The restaurant is superb, the food is absolutely delicious and the wait staff is amazing. The valet staff are helpful and efficient. Housekeeping is done daily, and the staff is very friendly and attentive. The spa is fabulous, the staff is amazing and the area is beautiful. The location can't be beat, there is abundant dining within walking distance, a wonderful park adjacent and major tourist sights within 30 minutes. Now the rooms.... They are tired and dated. The cabana upgrade is not worth the money, the tiny cabana seats two people at a table, no space for a lounger, no space for more people (all balconies seat two people, photo is not a cabana room, but one of our other rooms that was the same size as the cabana, if not larger than the cabana). The carpeting is so worn and appears dirty, fraying where it meets bathroom tile. All painted surfaces (doors, casing, base, furniture) have one too many coats of paint on them and should be replaced. Maintenance on the rooms is done as cheap band aids, not professional fixes. All photos were taken in our three rooms. The first floor room was missing, the chain on the door leading to the balcony. One room had an empty space where the refrigerator was supposed to be, and had a larger freestanding refrigerator sitting in the room. It looked like one dresser was repaired with the wrong paint. One of our rooms reeked of cigarette smoke and had to be changed. We were given another room and when we walked in that room, there was a young man in the room, went back to the desk and was told "he's autistic, sorry about that" and then given another room. Very scary that we were given the key to someone else's room!

Yelp
Disappointing. We booked through the AMEX Fine Hotel program which we have used for The Loden (Vancouver) and The Wynn LV. Those were great stays at fantastic properties. This wasn't. Pros- Friendly welcoming service. The valets were especially nice. Front desk cordial offering waters, champagne, and chocolate. The ladies at the hotel coffee shop, Lyric, were great. The town around it is fun to explore with some cool boutiques, restaurants, and bars. Short walk to the coast. Cons-Room was a disappointment. I expected a more decorated room and I've been in rooms where you just stop and go "Whoa!" This wasn't one of them. The bathroom was cursed. Literally a few minutes into our entrance my daughter found herself stuck inside because there was apparently a screw sticking out of the door wedging itself into the frame. I didn't want to force it open and cause major damage so we had to call engineering. The toilet the next day got clogged. Poor engineer guy must have had his hands full around the compound because it took almost half an hour for him to arrive. There was no signal to the tv. Foot traffic from room above was quite audible. I will comment about the hotel restaurant in a separate review but that would fall under the negative section here as well. Wouldn't recommend.

Yelp
I stayed at this property several years ago and it was fabulous. Now, it is nothing better than an upgraded Motel 6. The hotel is battered and devoid of charm. Supposedly it was 'upgraded' in 2021 but really it is a sad comparison to the gorgeous redo prior by Barclay Butera (if he saw it today he surely would cringe). For our couples away weekend, we expected a charming boutique seaside hotel, and what we got was so disappointing at any price point, but for $1200+ a night I feel completely taken advantage of. I booked a fireplace coastal king room. Fireplace did not work on night one, engineering fixed it the next day but left soot marks all over the switch to turn it on (see pics below). There was peeling/chipped paint everywhere in the room and the plantation shutters looked like they were taken from a tenement in downtown LA. The decor was colorless...drab greige everywhere. Now if I could give zero stars I would because this place is such a rip off. That being said, I would like to praise the staff who were wonderful, friendly, sympathetic to my concerns, etc. The only other positive (and this is important), the bed was very comfortable. Food in the restaurant was good but very overpriced. The lobby bar was the only stylish element of this property but drinks were $35+ which is outrageous price gauging. I learned this is now a Noble House property.....nothing 'noble' about it. Sad to say I will not ever return as the experience was incredibly disappointing.

Yelp
Adelaide isn't open until 5 PM. We are in the living room having a half a hamburger and some guacamole and chips. The guacamole has something hot in it like hot peppers. So does the red sauce that comes with it.

Yelp
Absolutely love the restaurant. What wonderful and charming staff! It's worth the drive from San Diego.

Yelp
A great find in Del Mar. excellent views and clean rooms, plus very friendly and nice staff. I could not wait for the morning to get the crab egg's Benedict at the Adeline. Everything was great, the pool, the food, the service and the lobby smells fabulous.

Yelp
I have been wanting to stay here for years and my wife and I were finally able to visit the quaint and cool city of Del Mar. We arrived early but could not check in early so we explored the hotel and the classy shopping center across the street. We ate lunch at the pool bar and then we hung out at the beach using the beach valet who provided beach chairs and an umbrella for us to use. We were told our room was ready at 315. The room is small but nicely decorated with comfy bath robes but there was some kind of event literally right by our patio so we didn't really use it and the people could see right in our room and you could not see the ocean from it anyway. The service was great from the beach valet and the pool bar server. The receptionists were friendly and inviting and held our luggage for us until we checked in. However our room was nice but no ocean view. In fact I would say all the rooms on the first floor did not really have an ocean view. Even if you did there are condos that block part of the view. We asked for a late check out and the receptionist offered 12 but said it would be like $60 dollars an hour if we stayed later. Overall good service, great location close to restaurants and the beach, but seemed pricey with extra "fees." Nice view of ocean from pool and dining room. It was a nice if underwhelming stay. 4 stars for service and location, but 3 stars for room and event right next to room.

Yelp
We had a fantastic family vacation over Memorial Day weekend here and can't wait to come back. Everyone from Claudia at check-in to Doug at the beach cart was absolutely fantastic. We went through American Express and had an upgrade to the Pacific view suite and it was absolutely perfect! We got married here 10 years ago and had such amazing memories that it was great to go back and make more! It sounds minor, but the staff really took the time to make our visit worthwhile. The morning restaurant crew at Adelaide remembered us and our kids food preferences (gluten free) every time we went down for breakfast and the housekeeping service brought a little stool to our suite so our kids could reach the bathroom sink. And Doug made the beach experience next level, in fact our kids are still talking about Doug and asking when we can visit him ha ha! The only thing I would change up is the in room dining menu. Not many options for in room dining however the partnership L'Auberge has with the surrounding restaurants is really great. We hit up the pizza spot next-door as well as Jake's and the ice cream shop. Love L'Auberge and will definitely be back !

Yelp
Great location and attentive staff. Expensive for what it is. The air conditioning in our room was barely adequate during August. The patio was pleasant but we heard the bar's music until the 11 PM curfew. The short rib hash at breakfast was tasty.
google avatar

Yelp
We had to eat in the bar area. The main dining room is closed until 5:00z . The food was ok . I felt the hamburger was overcooked. The fry's were delicious.the guacamole was good but a bit spicy. Service could have been better.

Yelp
I haven't been here in years and was surprised how much the vibe changed. In the past it was a low key relaxing place. It's definitely much busier and lost a personal feel. Most of the staff I've been in contact with has been dismissive and lack personality. We are staying in the "presidential suite" and you would think there would be a bottle of champagne or fruit plate when checking in...nothing. The mini bar had stale and gross things. Literally, we got a can of the knock off pringles and they were stale. The coke I got from the mini bar even tasted old or lacked carbonation. We could hear the next door neighbors and their dog barking all night and at one point they started violently fighting I called security because it was BAD. Security came up, paused before knocking at the door ;and they were screaming at this point) he knocked after a few moments and the people went silent. Security just walked away and five minutes later the fighting continued. The in room dining menu lacks-any sort of selection and is only available until 900. I ordered the caprese type of salad and there were 3-1/2 slices of tomato. In the morning the breakfast burrito was literally tasteless and soggy. All in all this has been majorly disappointing. I would not recommend staying here.
google avatar

Yelp
Pulled into the drive way about to check-in when the landscapers, instead to waiting for us to drive past, decided to not only continuing using leaf blower, but directed it at our vehicle. Not a good first impression. We left.

Yelp
Wonderful pool side experience ‼ Our waiters were exceptional. Sirroc and a handsome young man with curly black hair took GREAT care of us. My drink and healthy yummy veggies were delicious AND we came because Hawaiian Ben was playing his aloha tunes ‼

Yelp
Christee and Dana in the Spa were amazing. Really appreciated Christee's expertise advice on my facial and enjoyed every minute of it. Very relaxing and pretty spa day. Can't wait to come back.

Yelp
I have stayed here twice for a business trip (once in October and once in April). The service each time was top tier. They were incredibly accommodating to last minute requests, helping us with coordinating transportation, and getting this to and from my room. It's a dog friendly hotel too, so plenty of pups to pet!
google avatar

Becky H.

Yelp
The hotel is small and in need of an update in many areas. The bathroom is an engineering failure as the glass shows door slams into the toilet when you open it. Room service comes very late each day after 2pm. The valet staff was he highlight of the hotel as they work hard and are very pleasant. I am writing this review laying awake because the lobby music is so loud I can hear it thumping in my room at 3am. I walked downstairs and asked for them to turn it down. The volume was not reduced on our side of the hotel. Unbelievable! Be ready to pay a small fortune for anything you buy in the hotel as well. I understand an up charge for convene w however they go over and beyond that. A pancake and frittata breakfast for two was about $84. Be sure to venture out to eat with many places in walking distance at a more reasonable price. The card machine in the coffee shop was not working the entire 6 days we stayed. The spa was expensive - couple massage $510. I can say it did not offer anything special or worth the price. The massages were weak at best. Find another local spa to get a service. All in all it believe they want this to be a 4 or 5 star hotel when in reality it is more of a 2 or 3 star experience.

David D.

Yelp
A lot to love, some nits to pick, and something to hate. The lobby was beautiful. The restaurant Adelaide had a great chef, top notch, everything was quite delicious. And all the staff were wonderful, professional, helpful, friendly. When we checked in our first room had this strange ceaseless loud sound like we were over the boiler room or something. They seamlessly changed us out to another room, which had a weird common area patio with no view which we never really wanted to go out and use. Some might have liked it but I felt a little weird opening our shutters privacy wise. Some parts of the hotel smelled good, others old/moldy. I have always found the architecture and layout a little cramped and hard to get a decent view of the ocean. The pool is central, cramped, and has half the rooms in the hotel and the restaurant right on top of it, not giving a feeling of privacy or luxury. Granted they have the land they have, but it just feels a little off. Our room had no view. They had an adorable Christmas movie on a projector outside at the pool in the evening with kids and families welcome to watch, get snacks and popcorn. What made us angry was a 5% surcharge on the restaurant bill which was POINTEDLY attributed to a raise in minimum wage. Pay your workers a decent wage and don't complain about it! Raise the prices if you have to. But don't make a big political statement on your restaurant bill. Low class, not five star, I found this disgusting.

Yelp
This hotel has a fantastic bar/ lobby! The bartenders are wonderful and fun and make pretty awesome drinks! They have the best oysters, great live musicians playing like (Orion)... please bring him back more often! I came here to grab dinner and drinks because I saw Orion performing here and it was such an incredible fun night and can't wait to come back when Orion is there again. Must have their burger and their fries are out of this world. Overall, amazing time!

Yelp
NOT worth IT. Paid over $1,000 per night. The rooms are ok, the elevator is slow and is more beat up than most freight elevators. plus management re-neged on a coupon I bought at a charity event. And the managers hid in the office and sent the poor front desk people to give you the bad news. Blue Indigo up the street is much better.

Yelp
Staff was very friendly and welcoming Close to the beach Pool is too small for the size of the hotel Probably the most disgusting thing is we found rat poop on our roll away bed. Will not be going back

Jessica B.

Yelp
Went for a weekend to relax. The staff overall were very nice and helpful. My main issue was the pool. For the price we paid for the weekend, I would have expected a much more upscale pool space. The pool is very small and the towels were dirty. The pool space is not inviting and lacks class. It was also not very clean. The lounge chairs were the most uncomfortable and old pool furniture I have ever seen. The lounge chairs had no support or cushion. The servers were very sweet, but the time it took to get poolside service was disappointing. We enjoyed the inside bar and lounge area and the food was great. Next time for the price of rooms, we will stay somewhere else with a better pool and amenities. The spa also does not have a hot tub. The spa offers a sauna but no hot tub.

Yelp
The valets are the best in town Josh and Chris treat us like family when we go to the hotel. The beach shuttle service is amazing Doug and Sam are friendly and very helpful. Love this place.

Yelp
Celebrated a good friends wedding here recently. Such a beautiful venue! Everything about this place is lovely. We had a room which overlooked the ocean and even got to take a walk on the beach and watched the sunset. The wedding itself was one of the most beautiful i've been to, maybe ever. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
Me and my family came on New Year's. On that day the valet for the hotel took 20 dollars cash and refused to give us back our car unless we Venmo him personally 20 dollars. He did this to numerous cars after us as well. I will be asking my son to post screenshots of it later. Don't waste your money here they will try to steal every penny of it.

Yelp
L'Auberge Del Mar San Diego CA Wed 11/23/22 © We all have vexing routines in the everyday life weighing heavily on us sometimes... and although Leonard Cohen says, "there ain't no cure for love", let the cure of escaping into the luxury of L'Auberge Del Mar transport you to another world for a while and become your escape, however temporary it may be... your extraordinary getaway awaits! Hanging on the beach! Arrived Tue 11/22/22. This is an update review, after pandemic. Please checkout my old review. Shaun Beucler, the General Manager, may no longer be there, but the legendary vibe of excellence remains, if your pocket can stand it, go for it, trust me! The ocean views alone are worth it! Pristine! Then there's very nice private pool and you can order poolside or enjoy your meal inside the restaurant. The setting is very unique, it's a luxury resort after all. Don't forget the bar for your drinks, you really don't need to go anywhere but enjoy the amenities. Blue skies & immaculate lavish green lawns will help with that! Just couple of steps down Camino Del Mar, there's an abundance of little shops & boutiques to explore. And of course your Starbucks in case you prefer their Caffè Verona dark roast blend. I had to buy swimming trunks at Rusty Surfboards Del Mar next door, cool little store, with great customer service. Forgot mine when packing while on a work call LOLz. Back to L'Auberge Del Mar. They deliver on the promise imho. I also stayed here several years ago and that experience left unforgettable mark on my mind. Kinda old school experience, professional service from the moment of your arrival (the valet) to the room in a turnkey condition. Things largely stay familiar after pandemic, which is a nice spot to come back to. Every time! Quaint, understated, beautiful, fantastic! *I can't sleep cause what if I dream Of going back to San Diego We bought a one way ticket so we could go see the Cure And listen to our favorite songs in the parking lot And think of every person I ever lost in San Diego Can't go back to San Diego, can't go back to San Diego [ update Review #738 with 8 pics on Dec 26, 2022 ] Living Life! @L'Auberge Del Mar San Diego CA Wed 11/23/22

Yelp
Seen better days. Recently visited and was surprised to find it in its current condition. It's overdue for a redo--ugly old carpet and poor interior design, looks like cheap fixtures which have aged. Pool is also super tiny -- they need to figure out how to put a new pool in. Nice location and views but a far cry from the reputation it used to have. Rooms are also small and uninspiring in decor.

Yelp
My husband and I recently celebrated our 10 year wedding anniversary at here and had a fantastic time! Our spa services were both some of the best we've ever had and we cannot wait to go back. The rooms were clean and felt very fresh. The front desk service was top-notch and so was the food! We got an avocado toast that blew us out of the water! Speaking of water, you cannot beat these views in beautiful Del Mar! 10 out of 10 recommend!

Yelp
We stayed at L'Auberge Del Mar recently when staying in San Diego and are so happy we did! L'Auberge is located in the heart of Del Mar and has a number of restaurants and shops right at its door steps. We arrived and had the warmest welcome by the valet and bellman staff! They offered to assist with our luggage but we politely declined and they still were very friendly and guided us to the front desk. One thing we were so blown away by was the open air lobby (all doors were open and all you felt and experienced was the fresh Pacific Ocean air.. it was like you were in a private luxurious beach house!) The front desk agent was so friendly and welcoming, and she also provided us with a glass of champagne at check in. We then went to our room (a Cabana Pool View king bedded room on the first floor) and had he best views of the ocean and pool! The room also had a large patio area with a table as well. We just loved the large patio area with the view! The room was very spacious and comfy and it was like we were staying in our own luxurious beach house! Definitely recommend trying them if you're looking for a five-star resort in the San Diego coastal area!

Yelp
Beautiful hotel but the service was questionable. During my 4 day stay 5x ( 5 TIMES!!!) someone walked into my room without a knock or warning! I had a room with a fireplace and called 3x for them to fix the issue was never resolved and I never got to enjoy the fireplace in my room- very disappointing! The sink in my bathroom never drained properly- no one likes to brush their teeth in a pool of toothpaste. I ordered room service numerous times and one night for dinner she just started putting my dinner plates and drinks on my nightstand- i told her no i would like to eat my dinner on the tray on my bed so i can watch tv. She said she needed the tray back?? WEIRD i said fine then leave the table she said she couldn't? I stay at hotels half the year and even a Hilton property will leave a table for you to dine on in your room. Also no one picks up the damn phone to order room service. I had to call the front desk or restaurant to place an order. The good- beautiful hotel and the valet staff alone earns 5 stars! Valet was very organized and ran by a group of mature and welcoming staff. They are PROS! I enjoyed the little coffee shop inside the hotel they had healthy options as well as a wonderful nice boutique attached. Their main restaurant past the lobby is great- can't beat the ocean views! Staff was friendly and the food was delicious! I had a salad there for lunch it was delicious! The pool is small but efficient. The ocean view was lovely and the pool food was great- don't sleep on the chicken katsu sandwich and their fries are out of this world! Location was perfect- short walk to the beach and many shops and restaurants! Make sure you try gelato across the street at Anns Hatmakers and the mexican restaurant next door is great! Sunsets are amazing don't miss them from the beach but even in the lobby hotel they are just epic the entire lobby GLOWS! For the price I paid I expected better service. It needs to be on par to the Ritz or Four Seasons for what they are charging.

Yelp
I recently hosted a birthday party in the private dining room. The event was highly disappointing to say the least. There was absolutely no communication after leaving the deposit on the room. I was mislead to believe that I could arrange a special menu for the event. And instead got a poorly planned 2 course menu even after I had explicitly requested a 3 course menu with wine pairings. After the event I was given a survey to fill out, which I spent some time to give a thoughtful response only to get an auto reply from the General Manager who definitely did not read the survey! I will never host another event there and will be sure to discourage everyone I know!

Yelp
If I can give this place zero stars I would- yes the property is ok (nowhere near a 4 star hotel) The pool is small and nothing to write home about in terms of rooms. The worst was the NYE celebration. We were supposed to be seated at 830pm but didn't get to eat until 12 midnight past the countdown! People left and right were getting upset , the manager even had food thrown at her from guests who wanted to have a joyful and festive celebration but instead went to bed with an empty stomach. And this was New years Eve! Terrible. Stay away. There are better hotels in the area. Sounds fancy - but far from it. It really should just be called the "Del Mar Inn"- calling it a French name doesn't disguise the terrible terrible property.

Yelp
Drinks are over priced due to the location. That is not the reason for my low score. My sweater was stolen from there as I left it unattended while I danced. No one could locate it within minutes. If a sweater is at risk of being stolen, I can just imagine what else goes on. Security cared less. Don't be deceived. It's in a fancy area but people there can still be thugs.

Yelp
Less than adequate. Staff not attentive or not do they put the guests as a priority. The room walls thin & not not clean . We had be moved twice due to the uncleanliness of the rooms .

Yelp
I used to come here often back when I worked in Cardiff and lived in the area. It was my favourite resort in SD then, and it still is now. I had brunch with friends here recently, and the food was great, the service staff kind and attentive, and the drinks were delicious. I also love the ocean front view and the relaxing vibe. That said, I will always stop by and visit when I'm in the area. It's a great place- highly recommend.

Yelp
This review is for pre-dinner cocktails in the lobby bar early Saturday evening. The bar staff are friendly and quick to serve. The is a small variety of local beers on tap to choose from and a good selection of wine. We always stop in for a couple of drinks before dinner, a great way to start the night with drinks in a comfortable setting with ocean views.

Yelp
Dirty, unkempt, and run down. $950 per night for a small room. Their management should be ashamed at the lack of basic care and maintenance. What an embarrassing. Buyer beware!

Yelp
Love the Living Room Bar at L'Auberge! Tip: They have a great Happy Hour is 3-5pm Monday - Thursday. Chad is amazing and took excellent care of us. He makes the most delicious craft cocktails...and I am picky! ;0) His Espresso Martini, French 75, and Paloma are yummy! We also ordered appetizers. Chad took the time to ensure our food was prepared well. As he took such great care of us, next visit, we look forward to trying the restaurant, as well. Chad sold us on an excellent experience!! Wednesday Nights, there is a delicious Oyster Bar on the patio! The Baked Oysters were my favorite!! Chef Nick and Chef Marcos were so charming. Looking forward to returning again soon! Bonus: L'Auberge is dog-friendly! Charlie Doodle loves it!

Yelp
From start to finish my massage was awful! I was more tense and stressed out afterwards. They asked if I would like to relax by the fire for a bit ... NOPE! and was surprised I was dressed and ready to leave so quickly. My hubby got this for me for my birthday and was also surprised I was done so fast. I've had way too many massages and 100% this was the absolute worst and ridiculously expensive for what I received!! Rushed, uncomfortable and non relaxing! My husband and I had horrible service at the pool as well! Just not great service for a supposedly upscale Hotel. Ohhh and, one valet guy was pretty rude and his interaction with me was unnecessary and uncalled for. Honestly if we we're a white couple and not a Beautiful Black couple the experience probably... no most definitely would have been different. Please teach your staff to treat everyone the same and NEVER NEVER judge a book by its cover! Our Circle is quite visible world-wide. Outside of one of the bartenders, one of the girls who made me a yummy coffee and the front desk crew ...everyone else

Yelp
Front Desk staff was very unhelpful, we were put in a room with no closet, or full length mirror (the bathroom mirror was also very small (not a normal mirror) when I asked to be moved they said this was how all the rooms were..... I had to put my clothes on a chair..... It was a business meeting and you know how that went.... wrinkled clothes. When I spoke to several people at my meeting they said. "We have a closet and a regular mirror". I went to the desk again to ask to speak to a manager they said they couldn't help me...and gave me extra water... Sadly, this was disappointing.
