"Local pastry whiz and LGBTQ Chicagoan Bo Durham, the executive pastry chef at James Beard Award-winning chef Mindy Segal’s lauded carb spot Mindy’s Bakery, is celebrating Pride Month with packages of rainbow pinwheel cookies and “papi chow” throughout June in the lobby of L7, a new downtown hotel from Korean corporate behemoth Lotte Group. The hotel is expanding on the partnership with a promotion — a portion of proceeds from all rooms booked under the “Pride” link via Instagram will benefit Brave Space Alliance, an LGBTQ community center focused on serving the South and West sides of the city." - Naomi Waxman
"It’s tough to find a better view than the one you’ll get here: Book into the northwest corner of this downtown high rise, and you’ll have Marina City (the Corncobs), the Riverwalk, the Chicago River bridges, and Merchandise Mart all lined up out the window. Inside, it’s typical Kimpton flair, with brocade curtains, dark walnut finishes, and, in some rooms, mirrored headboards. (Don’t worry, they’re as classy as mirrored headboards come). Other Kimpton perks like an evening wine hour, free Wi-Fi for loyalty program guests, and a decent gym are available too. The in-house restaurant does an admirable job, particularly with cocktails like the barrel-aged mezcal old fashioned, though you’re not likely to see many locals when Chicago presents so many other options. Luckily, it’s right there outside your window."
