The Best Dougnuts in Montreal | Eater Montreal

"This recently opened doughnut shop on Saint-Denis is the brainchild of an unlikely entrepreneur, Catherine Boucher, a dentist turned vegan pastry maker. Her creations are glazed to produce flavours such as crème brûlée, passionfruit with cocoa nibs, coffee-caramel-biscuit (dubbed the “Caramel Instagraham”), and cookies and cream using a chocolate-hazelnut spread from local producer Allo Simmone." - Daniel Bromberg

Online Dessert Shops La Beignerie and Bomboloni Boss Make the Jump to Brick-and-Mortar | Eater Montreal

"Since June 4 I’ve seen a new doughnut shop on St-Denis Street dedicated exclusively to vegan doughnuts, La Beignerie, which began as Catherine Boucher’s weekend project in her home kitchen in August 2020 and expanded into a Plateau storefront (she signed the lease in April 2021 just below Duluth) after demand grew. Boucher, a dentist by trade, transitioned toward running the shop full-time; her small team baths the doughnuts in fruity glazes—strawberry milk sprinkled with confetti, passion fruit dotted with organic cocoa nibs—and tops them with roasted hazelnuts, crushed Oreos, and blobs of cookie dough with chocolate syrup squiggles, with more seasonal flavours promised. The shop’s cheerful signage—a wide-smiled, pink-glazed confection perched in a bathtub—plays on the pun “Viens prendre ton beigne!.” La Beignerie is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 3979 St-Denis." - Valerie Silva

All vegan donut shop. Delicious dough, creamy fillings, lots of choices including monthly specials, and they donate some proceeds to charity. Need I say more!? Run to get the Dubai chocolate donut before it disappears off the menu!

Google
La Beignerie is an all vegan donut shop we wanted to try in Montreal. It has a cute big sign in the front so it wads easy to spot. Accessibility - My husband is the one that went inside, and I stayed outside with my niece. I was in my wheelchair and there were either 1 step from the street or a few steps leading to the shop. They had no ramp so I decided to stay outside. It was a nice day and there are benches right outside their shop on the pedestrian walk. They also have their own private space right outside their shop for their customers. That was also a step up from pedestrian walk leading to the shop. Donuts - we loved them, we loved how they had different flavors to try like creme brulee, a few I dont remember the names but tasted so good. One was passion fruit, other one was keylime, lastly we got boston creme. All donuts we got tasted very rich. You really tasted the actual flavors of the fruits and didn't taste from concentrate. Payment - my husband said they had a sign that they opnly take cards for electronic payment, no cash. He forgot to take a pic of the reason for no cash, but I think it;s safer if they dont have cash at hand. Unfortunately for older people like my Dad who prefers cash, maybe just ask their kids or grand kids to get them this treat.

Google
This is my go to spot for donuts when in MTL. They always have new flavours along with the classics like their delicious apple fritter.

Google
Discovered this donut shop by pure happenstance while walking to find a dessert place in the pouring rain... The donuts here are insanely good!!! A little pricey, but well worth stopping by, especially when you're drenched and need to brighten your evening... 🍩🙌👍

Just ditch this place and go to Bernie Beigne instead. This spot is somehow super famous in Montréal, but honestly, the donuts are the worst I’ve had. I gave it three chances over the last few years, and every time it was a letdown. The last time was so bad I actually threw it in the trash and I’m a full-on sugar addict who never wastes dessert. I usually eat anything remotely sweet, so that says a lot. Total hype, no flavor.

Google
I have been a vegan for 11 years, and traveled all over the world. This vegan donut shop has one of the greatest recipes for making a vegan delight. Yes, I'm sure to many non-vegans most places taste different than the alternative places. However, my husband who is not a vegan had NO IDEA that his donut was vegan. He got the jelly and was in awe. These were all fantastic. 10/10

Google
I tried the crème brûlée and the caramel Instagraham donuts. The crème brûlée was delicious, but the caramel donut was a bit too sweet for my taste. The staff was friendly and welcoming. It's worth a visit if you’re in the area!

Google
I processed a lot before doing this review. I ordered 6 donuts via uber eats. I had a discount so it was much cheaper than it should have been and yet I still paid 30bucks. The donuts were good, don’t get me wrong, they were tasty and the dough was perfect. But I don’t think they are worth their price. Most of them are not even filled, so you are paying around 5 dollars for a donut that only has some topping and that’s it. Overall I think this place is waaay overhyped. Are the donuts good? Yes. Are they worth the price? No, you can buy a dicen at kryspy kreme for half the price of 6 donuts at this place and you would enjoy them the same.

Yelp
Was passing through the neighbourhood when I saw a sign for one of my favourite treats: doughnuts. So of course I stopped in. It's a small store meant for grab and go, but there is some outdoor seating that's nice when it's warm out if you just wanted a single doughnut. Instead I bought a pack of four and took them back to my hotel. Totally worth the walk. They're best eaten the same day of course, but even the next morning they were still fresh. They're not airy like Krispy Kreme that's just pure sugar, these have a bit of a chew to them that makes them real like a real meal and not just a treat. Will definitely come again next time I'm nearby.

Yelp
Wow. Some of THE BEST vegan donuts I've ever had. I wish we had one of these in NJ - I'd be a regular customer. I purchased the creme brûlée, strawberry frosted and the holiday special, the gingerbread. All were fantastic. The creme brûlée had a rice creamy flavor, tasted just like the real thing! The strawberry frosted was made with real strawberries - absolutely divine! The gingerbread was also great, perfect for a snowy day treat. So glad I stopped in. Will be back on my next visit to Montreal!

Yelp
i drove all the way from Ahuntsic to get some of your donuts that my boyfriend kept raving about, sadly the donuts didn't taste fresh. Haven't been back since because I don't want to have to guess if the donuts will be good this time or not! Also, the donuts are quite expensive so I should be able to expect a certain level of quality with your donuts. Bernie Beigne has never disappointed, so it's definately my go to donut place and the price is very fair and reasonable.

Yelp
these are seriously the best donuts I've ever had!!!! Soft, fresh, and delicious! highly recommended the chocolate cream filled donut. it was crazy to find out they're all plant based/vegan.

Yelp
Great service, donuts were fresh and delicious. Wish they had some of the basic flavours. Great experience overall.

Yelp
Some creative donut toppings, maybe not for picky eaters, but at least they had this very very sweet chocolate/peanut butter donut! If you go there, please make sure you ask for some water & a napkin. You WILL get your fingers dirty!

Yelp
Omg I love this place. It's been a while since I've had a vegan yeast donut that wasn't homemade, and these were so delicious. I visited 3 different times during my week long stay in Montreal and staff was super friendly. I tried the fou de coconut (4.50CAD single donuts), phileas fog, citron lavande, bourre-toi la fraise and their donut holes (0.50CAD/each or 10 for 4.50CAD) with a raspberry jam on the side and they were all so delicious. My favorites were definitely the phileas fog and citron lavande. I made sure to buy a box (~15CAD) or two for my family to take back home to New York (crème brûlée, more phileas fogs, another fou de coconut and a recommended Apple fritter). We're still driving back so let's see if they last the road trip. I did see on their website that they dont recommend people with nut allergies to eat their donuts as they can't guarantee no cross contamination occurs. Just for those who are on the lookout for tree nuts. I would def come back here though next time I'm in Montreal

Yelp
Food: the donut was DELICIOUS!!!! I devoured the creme brûlée without a second thought. The coconut one was also good, but it was just a bit too sweet for my liking. Service: the lady was super friendly :) Ambiance: the shop didn't feel like it was a place for you to go and sit down and enjoy the donut there. I don't mind. I took my donuts back to my hotel and stuffed my face there.

Yelp
So yummy! I only tried one donut - it was a maple donut with apple chunks and pecans. Would love to come back and try more!

Yelp
When you make two stops at this place while in Montreal for the last three days, they must be doing something right. I feel like every part of Montreal we've been to, just ends up connecting into a big ole circle. Both two times we've went everyone was super friendly. Finding a donut shop that is all vegan is always a task in itself, the variety is solid, even at the dinner time and late hours. It may say 10a-5p on Yelp, but the door says 10a-10p so just a heads up. Donuts are solid, no traditional flavors, all unique twists. Be patient, ask questions, the staff is super friendly and speak both French and English. Highly recommend the creme brûlée donut along with the French toast donut. Boston crème pie and Apple fritters are usually my weakness, as it didn't hit the right spot for me, it was still tasty enough. You can't go wrong with any of these donuts. Boxes are cute, Merch is cute, donuts are amazing, this is somewhere you need to check out!

Yelp
Lose control of yourself and bathe in delicious vegan donuts. You will not be disappointed by the very natural tasting ingredients, perfect amount of sweetness, suprinsingly light dough and wonderful glazes and fillings. To be clear, we are not calling these "good for Vegan donuts". No, they are exceptionally tasty straight out; on any scale

Yelp
It has always been my dream to buy a box of donuts, all different flavor, and take a bite of each, or maybe even finish them all at once. And this is exactly what my boyfriend and I did. We walked into a small half-renovated donut shop. There was outdoor seating but takeout only. We got Crème St. Dennis (Boston cream), Bleuet Crumble (blueberry crumble), Jam la Confiture (jelly-filled), Crème Brûlée, Bourre-too la Fraise (strawberry), Phileas fog (earl grey). We came sometime in the evening, so they had run out of Choco-Speculoos and Bananarachide, unfortunately. They also had mini donut holes and drinks. The Crème St. Dennis was similar to a Boston cream but the interior custard lacked the "eggy" pudding flavor. The exterior chocolate icing was also a bit overly sweet for my tastes. The Bleuet Crumble was by far my favorite of the 6 donuts. The fruitiness was subtle yet just sweet and tart enough to come across as blueberry. The Jam La Confiture was very sweet coming from the icing and the raspberry jam interior (they were very generous with the jam). My boyfriend liked this on the most. One of their most popular donuts is the Crème Brûlée, and I can totally see why. The concept of a custard-filled AND topped donut with a torched sugary layer on top sounds simply amazing. You can definitely taste the brûlée, but this custard was the same as the one in Crème St. Dennis and was lacking in flavor. Next, the Bourre-toi La Fraise was very fruity and acidic. I wouldn't describe this as a classic strawberry donut. Lastly, the Phileas Fog was topped with a sort of cream but not whipped cream. The earl grey flavor was apparent, but I wasn't a big fan. Overall, the texture of the donuts was INCREDIBLY soft yet a bit chewy, just the way I like my donuts. All of the filled ones were generously filled with either custard or jam. Of the 6 we tried, I would recommend the Bleuet Crumble, Crème Brûlée, and Jam La Confiture. The service was nice and quick as well. I would come back again to try new flavors and make a return for the Bleuet Crumble! (These donuts are also VEGAN!! I love me a good vegan bakery :))

Yelp
Great vegan donuts with plenty of creative flavors. My favorite so far is the crème brûlée and biscoff and I'm looking forward to try the passion fruit and matcha.

Yelp
First off, I want to admit that I'm not observant. So the fact that this is 100% vegan was unknown to me until after I devoured the deliciously deceiving Creme Brulee donut. It is an experience but to break it down by components, the donut is soft and light; not dense at all. The thin layer of caramelized sugar adds a bit of sweetness and crunch. The creme center was velvety in texture and almost delicately dissolving as you savor it. Combined, the different components meld together harmoniously. I will say I visited twice, once in the late morning and again early evening. Towards the end of the night, the options dwindle so get there early.

Yelp
I travel for work and am currently in Montreal. Being vegan I try to find good restaurants but typically don't search for vegan desserts as they are often hard to find or if you do find them they are only just ok. When I've worked in the Gold Coast of Australia I found a little coffee shop that made vegan doughnuts. Up to now I thought they were the best vegan doughnuts I've ever had. Up to now. The doughnuts at La Beignerie are AMAZING!!!!!! The creme brulee and the chocolate frosted cream are my two favorites. I now plan to eat doughnuts everyday until I finish this job. If you are in Montreal then you should get to La Beignerie ASAP. Pro-tip: Pre-order your doughnuts from their website the night before or make do with what's left when you enter the shop because they sell fast!

Yelp
Friendly service, delicious donuts. This was a delightful find on a cold Saturday morning.

Yelp
Best donuts I've ever had and I make a point to get them everywhere I go. Buy one of each if you go, you won't regret it!

Maria B.

Yelp
Amazing vegan donuts!! Perfect textures and flavors. Pillowy, yeasty goodness inside with a perfect amount of slight crisp on the outside. The glazes were amazing. They have some nice outdoor space to enjoy them on the patio too.

Ana C.

Yelp
I have it another try , different flavors but didn't like like either. This time I tried the caramel one, strawberry and pumpkin. The dough it was not good, like too chewy and frosting not great either.
