"Since June 4 I’ve seen a new doughnut shop on St-Denis Street dedicated exclusively to vegan doughnuts, La Beignerie, which began as Catherine Boucher’s weekend project in her home kitchen in August 2020 and expanded into a Plateau storefront (she signed the lease in April 2021 just below Duluth) after demand grew. Boucher, a dentist by trade, transitioned toward running the shop full-time; her small team baths the doughnuts in fruity glazes—strawberry milk sprinkled with confetti, passion fruit dotted with organic cocoa nibs—and tops them with roasted hazelnuts, crushed Oreos, and blobs of cookie dough with chocolate syrup squiggles, with more seasonal flavours promised. The shop’s cheerful signage—a wide-smiled, pink-glazed confection perched in a bathtub—plays on the pun “Viens prendre ton beigne!.” La Beignerie is open Tuesday to Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 3979 St-Denis." - Valerie Silva
