if you want grass fed and grass finished steak. this is the place. it’s pricy about $50 for the small piece called special. but their empanada is great. and the lamb sausage amazing. i would just get those 2 dishes. arugula salad was very tasty.

We had a great experience here. Very delicious meat, excellent service - attentive, helpful, friendly. Everything tasted really good, we loved it! A big surprise was the bone marrow as appetizer with the homemade bread - so good! And the desserts were a good finish. We would come back anytime.

This is one of my favorite restaurant anywhere. Spectacular food, friendly and attentive service even when the place is packed. I hate there 3 times and every time it was absolutely lovely. The steak, the beef rib, the sweetbreads, the bone marrow, everything was world class. For sure, when I get back to Buenos Aires, I'm stopping by for another of these meals I'll remember for a long long time.

Maybe we came in with high expectations, but overall dinner left us disappointed for the price. Empanadas were great, and the complimentary bread with bone marrow was a nice touch, but the chorizo was just okay and the ribeye steak was a bit tough and had a lot of chewy fat on it. Cauliflower lacked flavor. Had much better steak experiences at other restaurants during our time in Argentina. The server spilled wine on our table when pouring and didn’t clean it up which wasn’t ideal. There was a group next to us who was there for a food tour as well so ambiance in general was a bit off. Probably wouldn’t come back.

We had a spectacular meal at La Carniceria. Among parillas in BA, this is the place you will get the best cooked medium rare ribeye steak, perfectly seasoned and dry aged. If you like well done, lean, under-salted, and under-rested filet - don't come here. The bread service of bone marrow, fluffy roll, and chimichurri mayo is brilliant. The bread alone is warm and excellent but the bone marrow is a unexpected treat and the portion is just right to be satisfying without being overly heavy. All the apps and sides we ordered were good but a few stood out - the beef "ceviche" served in a stone cow skull is excellent, lots of bright acid, a touch of aji amarillo heat, and some nice allium compliments. The sweetbreads and corn cakes we devoured because they were unbelievable. Some of the best I've ever had. The morcilla is great, with a slight soon dae quality that we loved. The heirloom tomato salad was beautifully simple, just tomatoes, fresh oregano, and a touch of oil/vinegar. Again, the steak was outstanding. Beefy and serious, excellent marbling, and the rendering on the fat was divine. A top 5 steak of the decade for me easily. One nice touch, they ask if you want them to slice it for you or if you'd like to cut it yourself. Turns out gin and tonics are a perfect complement to steak. We had like 4. Also try the niño gordo y borracho torrontes, it has a touch of oxidation that marries with the aromatic qualities of the grape wonderfully. Bonus for spice heads they carry a full compliment of hot ones hot sauces. I recommend the arbol scorpion bc it kind of tastes like A1 steak sauce. Service was attentive and thoughtful, particular shout out to Christian the manager. He has a steak tattooed on his forearm and you can tell he lives for this shit. Price-wise this place is cheaper than any mid tier steakhouse in a US city. Steak was 90k pesos, all the sides were less than 20k with the exception of the generously portioned sweetbreads which were 40k. Drinks are cheap. In America you'd pay $120-150 or more for a steak of equal size and that's not considering quality at all. Amusingly we dined at the same time as an American band that was opening for Limp Bizkit. Shout out Slay Squad they seemed cool. My only complaint would be the chairs are very small and narrow, which may affect your comfort especially considering that the dining room is of smaller size and higher density. We will be back!

Phenomenal experience. All of the food was delicious, from the chorizo to the rib eye. The staff is friendly and helpful. Atmosphere is pleasant and we enjoyed watching the chef cook the steaks in the open fire grill.

This place was fantastic. Service was great, food was great, wine was great, price was great. Our vegetarian friend was well looked after and while his choices were limited to sides, he still left very satisfied and impressed. The steak was one of the best I’ve ever had. The beef ceviche and the blood sausage dishes were incredible - and that’s from someone who usually shies away from those items. Their tomato salad consists of some of the most delicious tomatoes I’ve ever put in my mouth. If I’m ever back in BA, I’ll be back at La Carniceria.

Great food and service. I had the smoked steak and it was great. I sat at the bar and the service was great, wine was wonderful. I liked sitting at the bar because I could watch them carve and cook the steaks

We were a group of 4 with an evening reservation. After some discussion, we decided to order the Punta de Ojo Guarnción which is the ribeye and NY strip cut from my understanding, and it feeds 3 as it comes with 4 "sides" I put that in "" as they provided a tiny cup of chimichurri and called it a side. We received butternut squash puree, veggies with a nice sauce and a chorizo, egg and potato dish. We also ordered seasonal veggies and mushrooms. They had run out of potatoes unfortunately. In retrospect we shouldn't have ordered that cut. It isn't an easy one to cook evenly so some parts were really well done, while other parts (near the bone) were almost raw. I had a dull knife and had a hard time cutting the well done pieces. They didn't trim the meat well so there was a lot of connective tissue as well. The bone marrow starter was great and the sides were good. I really liked the mushrooms and used the sauce for the steak. We enjoyed the chorizo as well. I think it was an off night for the staff as they came by and showed us a steak and a salad we didn't order on the table. As tempting as it was to take it, the mistake was realized when they went back up cut it up. Overall, for the price, I think you're better off going to La Cabrera. We were pretty disappointed with this meal especially after reading all the great reviews. Perhaps if we ordered other items we could have raved about them as well.

This place is super popular and we came here on a recommendation. We had a few unusual items for shots and giggles- blood sausage, chitlings and beef tartare. Let me tell you- Ive actually never tasted any of those items before and I was in complete awe. I think I'm spoiled for any other. The service was amazing and the wine selection was top tier!

I got sick from eating here while on vacation 2 days ago. Which is surprising, because a couple friends had recommended this place. But even while eating it, the food was not good. Got the parilla steak, it was tough and lacked seasoning (even though ordered it medium rare). Just seemed like poor quality meat. The cabbage side was not cooked very well, pretty raw. The sweetbreads had good flavor, but were super fatty. I'm not as familiar with sweetbreads so I assumed that's just what they're like. The only good thing was the empanadas. Maybe this restaurant was good in the past, but it was an extremely disappointing meal (I've even had better Argentinian steak in Mexico), and ruined the entire next day of my trip because I was up all night throwing up.

I will preface this by saying that I'm a vegetarian and the reason I came here was because my partner is a big steak lover. We weren't able to get a reservation for Don Julio, but the internet pointed out that this place was just as good, if not better than the aforementioned, albeit different. I was glad that I could procure a last minute reservation because once we got to the restaurant right as they opened, they were taking names down for walk-ins, but it would've been an hour+ long wait. Once seated, our server told us about the specials and they were also able to recommend a few side dishes for me to have, as a vegetarian. My partner opted for their parilla cut steak, while I got an order of their smoked provolone and a side of their mushrooms. Our food and drinks were brought out in a timely and attentive manner, and my partner was absolutely enthralled by his steak, which was also gigantic and nearly the size of his head. If I ate meat, this steak could've easily fed us both. Even if this restaurant's focus is primarily on beef, the provolone was delicious, as were the mushrooms. We really enjoyed our meal here and my partner certainly thought it was one of the best steaks he's had in his life. Certainly worth a visit, if you happen to be a fan of steak and you happen to be in Buenos Aires as well.

$50 can feed two here if you order their parilla steak, house wine, salad, water. The bone marrow and dijon/mayo sauce from peru were my favorite actually and it was complimentary! The steak was cooked medium rare as i ordered it. They offered to have chef slice it after they brought it to the table but i declined and wish i hadnt. I thought it would make it cold faster as i was eating alone and cant eat fast enough to keep 16oz of steak warm. Im pretty sure i cut it wrong a few times bc it was with the grain instead of against the grain and perpendicular to the bone. That made a few bites chewy but that was my fault. The pieces i cut against the grain were excellent. They served it with a pumpkin soup that was sweet so it balanced the savory steak and arugula/parmesan salad i had. Service was excellent also and they did have a waiter who spoke English well, fortunately.

Service was slow, waiters seems busy long time, long time to get the order. Steak wasn't cooked as ordered and we were not happy with their choice of cut, salad was excellent. Lack of ambiance. Won't recommend and will never be back

My wife and I were only going to be in the area for a little over a day, Buenos Aires being a stopover point for a cruise. I was looking for a great steakhouse experience here and read alot of reviews of the best places in the area. Don Julio had the edge in overall reviews, but I went with La Carniceria based on the food ratings, risking some issues with the service and atmosphere. I made a reservation for the opening time of 7 PM on a Friday about three weeks ahead, knowing that this is a small restaurant. There were approximately 16 tables for two inside and another 3 outside. It had been a beautiful late spring day, but it was quite breezy, so there were no takers early on for the outside tables. The restaurant was some distance from our hotel, so we took an Uber to arrive in the area early, as it had been noted that you table would be given away if you failed to show within 10 minutes of your reservation time. The restaurant is in a very nice section of town, near the zoo and the botanical gardens (which we visited the following day). After walking around the neighborhood, we returned to the restaurant about 5 minutes to 7 PM. A staff member directed us to wait to the side and then at 7 PM started to seat the first seating. You are informed that you have 90 minutes to have you meal before the next seating. The atmosphere was intimate without being too noisy. You could hear the workings of the kitchen in the background, including the sizzle from the grill. We had alot of wine in the pastv2 weeks, so we went instead with the house gin and tonics, with Bombay Saphire. They were served in large stemmed glasses and were very nice. No shortage of gin. We ended up have 2 each. As for the meal, it started with a complimentary plate of two marrow bones and a soft roll. The marrow bones were delicious and the roll was of a nice texture to soak up and drippings from the marrow bones. For appetizers wevoreder the chorizo with eggs and peas and the empanadas. The chorizo dish was artfully presented and the eggs and peas were nicely cooked. The only downside here was the chorizo itself, which I thought lacked some degree of flavor, but the overall dish is still to be recommended. The empanadas on the other hand were extremely moist and juicy on the inside, while still having a nice flakey pastry outside. I would say they were probably the best I ever had. For the main course we split the parrilla cut (large bone in ribeye) medium rare with a side of the heirloom tomatoes. I would have never made this choice without having read previous reviews, but I can assure you that if you like tomatoes, this is the side of choice. They beautifully accompanied the meat and had a lovely flavor. Prepared with olive oil and basil, we had to finish all of them, and trust me there are plenty. The steak came perfectly cooked and we were given the choice to have the kitchen cut it into strips, which we had them do. It made it easier to eat than cutting it yourself. Overall service was both efficient and friendly without having you feel rushed. Although we finished our meal with 10 minutes to go before the 8:30 seating, they offered us dessert. Based on prior reviews I would have gone for the bread pudding, but from what I saw, no one having dessert. I did see a couple at the table behind us make the mistake of ordering two entrees that we best shared by two people. Also saw the table next to us order two sides for their shared entree, which was still a mistake. Recommend trying to select a single side for two people. In addition to the main menu, they had a special selection of three small cuts that would be suitable for a single person and priced accordingly. With 4 drinks and tip, the whole bill came out to the equivalent of $70 USD. This was one of the 3 best steakhouse experiences I ever had, and it would absolutely rate as the best for overall value. They cannot have much staff turnover at a place this size, so I just don't know where some of the reviews came from that criticized the service here. The server certainly didn't question the fact that we were going to share the steak, where some other review acted as if the restaurant staff pushed them to over order the food quantity. They also had an extensive wine list with lots of reasonably priced selections.

It is inevitable that Buenos Aires will offer an abundance of choice selections for red meat centered meals and even "bad" options will be "good" but La Carnicería is a place that qualifies as great regardless of geography. If you're at La Carnicería, it's not because you want a salad so appease your inner carnivore and embrace what will be a copious amount of meat cooked and presented perfectly . I dined alone at the counter after a wait of approximately 30 minutes, which was not bad at all given how busy the place was at 9 PM on a Sunday night. I wanted to try the empanadas and was glad to give the a go but the star of the show was the parilla cut steak medium rare with chimi and pumpkin: no sides needed and melt in your mouth tender and delicious. I didn't think I had it in me to finish but the meat was too good to not savor. I managed to convince a fellow solo diner seated next to me to help with the bread pudding dessert and was glad to have ordered it. The space is beautiful and a perfect place to scope out the cool set in Palermo. I would definitely like to return here and make my way through more of the menu the next time I'm in Buenos Aires. Definitely a place for high quality meat selections!

Absolutely hands down the best (and most massive!) bone-in ribeye steaks in my life. La Carniceria surpassed all expectations. I went to the famed Don Julio steakhouse the previous night - it was excellent, sure, but dare I say, La Carniceria was better in terms of the meat and service. Loved the surprise starter: melty bone marrow with pan de sal. Fresh tomatoes paired perfectly with the steak. Total cost: about $100 in USD for a bottle of Malbec, 2 appetizers, a side, and the ribeye (definitely large enough for 2 people). This would've easily cost triple that in the US. The space is intimate and cozy; every table and seat at the bar was filled at 8pm (early for Argentinians). You definitely need to make a reservation online; I made mine a month out. So worth it.

The smoked cut was absolutely delicious- melt in your mouth. The sides - arugula salad and chorizo starter- we had were also fantastic. One of the best meals I've ever had! I would absolutely recommend stopping here while in Buenos Aires!

Excellent experience here. The empanadas were great and we were overall overwhelmed with what to order as everything sounded great, so we probably couldn't have gone wrong. The only drawback was that our meat took an especially longer time than other tables, which was strange. But when it arrived it was great. And you're greeted with a bone marrow appetizer, which really set the tone.

Steak was way overcooked and service was slow. The smoked provolone was delicious. Skip the steak here.

They took us at the bar on a whim and the food was memorable! The service was quick and they were super kind! By far the best meal we have had while in Buenos Aires and would refer any and all people to this place! Delicious

Good steaks, unusual service. Our steak and food was quite good but overshadowed by odd service. We we placed our order, were told "most people" order more and once we placed our order, we could not request any additional items. Of course we had ordered more than enough food and despite a US$50 tab for 2, the waiter was clearly not happy. The restaurant is quite small and and packed with tables. We were a party of 2 but our table had a third chair that they kept shoving under the table into our legs. We asked for them to remove the chair but they said they apparently didn't have room elsewhere to store. We eventually moved it against another wall but out of they way. Too many good steak houses in the city for such poor service.

This is an outstanding steakhouse. After 2 weeks in Buenos Aires dining at several Michelin mentioned restaurants, this was the place we decided to return to on our last night. In addition to excellent steak they serve wonderful pork chops and smoked beef. Service is extremely professional. Prices are no more than what's expected at a world class steakhouse, less if you're from the U.S.

If you need a bed side story for the bourgeoisie la carnicería is your spot. You get their cut made up for you which comes with a bed side story, in our case was chewy, fatty and priced as if you were at don julio. No locals just lost tourists that thought instagram adds flavor. Two stars **

For me, it is the perfect example of an overrated place in Buenos Aires. I did not like it, the service was slow, the place is very small and the meat, which is the most important thing, did not stand out. Not only that, but since it is a well known place it is very expensive. I wouldn't waste time coming here when there are so many splendid steakhouses all over Buenos Aires!

Not sure how this place ranks in terms of best steak houses in BA as it was my first one to try, but man was the service and good damn good. I walked in and got lucky with a seat at the counter at 9:30pm. But the place was packed.

Wife and I made a reservation for right when they opened at 7p on a Monday night and the place was at full capacity. Servers spoke english well enough to easily communicate, and they even have english menus. Everything we ordered (smoked mozzarella, steak tartare, and the ribeye) was beyond top notch. We ordered the ribeye medium rare and it was melt in your mouth good. We also split the ribeye and had trouble finishing it, so great portions. Sitting at the bar and getting to see all the meats grilling in the open pit was a bonus. A must visit!

Without doubt the best steak I've had in my life. We loved it so much that we went back a second time during our 14 day Argentina trip and brought our whole family to experience their NYE special tasting menu. Better than all the other steakhouses we tried in Argentina by a mile. The steak was just PHENOMENAL. So perfectly cooked, juicy, and has a sweetness to it. For the tasting menu, we also loved the pork and the cow neck. For their normal menu, we loved the shortbreads. There were some dishes that we didn't love like the provoleta, but the steak was so so good that this place still deserves a 5 star. Service was bilingual (rare in Argentina) and very very friendly! The head chef and owner even served us for the NYE dinner. I would be dreaming about the steak for sure.

Argentina is known for their amazing steak. Their style of cooking on an open pit creates a great balance of flavors. La Carniceria was very good, but did not blow me away. This Texas boy knows where to buy and how to cook a great steak. Perhaps my standards are above others. I enjoyed the meal and ate every bite. I highly recommend making a visit while in BA.

The best steak I've ever had and Augustin was so helpful and wonderful in explaining all the delicious dishes. Kudos to the manager as well. Highly recommended!

The Meat Sanctuary. I don't even have a taste for steak anymore but I'll go as far as saying this was the best beef I've ever had in my life. . La Caniciera is an intimate, off-beat parrilla serving just three cuts every night-light which is PLENTY since they're freaking massive. We got the Corte Parrilla (Grill cut) & Corte Ahumado (22hr smoked cut beef rib that fell off the bone and melted in my mouth). Their wall art, though jarring, is an obvious homage to the . . I could tell the grill master loved her job and cared about the meat with her hands-on manneuvering on the grill. I paired my meal (because apparently 600 grams of meat isn't enough for our savage appetites) with the chorizo baked potato which was off the wall. I wish I had tried their famous gin and tonic but I was in the mood for a malbec which was equally perfect. As if the entree course wasnt enough, dessert was just as lucious. Their bread pudding was super moist and dense, and the dulce de leche bars melt in your mouth. Make sure to get a reservation as they can only seat about ten tables, and good luck finding the door

If you don't have a reservation long in advance to get into Don Julio, which you probably won't, go here. My friend and I liked the food better anyway. Don Julio may be an institution that's winning the popularity contest among steakhouses in Buenos Aires, but this place popped up as the number 2 option on my Yelp search. The place is not that big. We showed up here on a Friday night without a reservation and the first employee who opened the locked glass door for us told us they were booked. A second employee came out and asked if we could be helped. This one gave us a table, seeming to not care about honoring the reservations. For what it's worth, throughout the course of our meal, we didn't exactly seem to be holding anyone up. A few more customers came in after us and filled in the tables as the restaurant was starting to empty out. The menu is also small, but I appreciate that. About 5-6 starter options, 4-5 main courses and 3-4 desserts. We started with the morcilla casera (blood sausage). Beautiful presentation. Excellent flavor. For mains, we got the jabali (wild boar) and the corte parrilla (a fat NY Strip), which they only charge $490 ARS for, or about $13 USD. Try getting a steak this big and of this quality in NYC for $13. Same goes for the wild boar at $510 ARS. Both of these dishes were among some of the best meat dishes I've ever had. Even though we were stuffed beyond recognition, we felt compelled to get dessert since the apps and the mains were so good. I hate filling my face, but when a place sets the bar as high as this place does, it's hard to leave wondering what the final round may have tasted like. No regrets. So we didn't just settle for one dessert, but two. We got the leche asada (rice pudding) and the budin de pan (bread pudding). All told, my friend and I had one of the best meals of our lives for just over $100 US, and that included a bottle of wine, two cocktails, two bottles of water, one appetizer, two entrees and two desserts. Unbeatable.

KenScale: 8.25/10 My wife Jun and I took a year-end vacation to Argentina, with stops in Buenos Aires, Iguazu Falls and Ushuaia in the Patagonia region. We had a lot of fun hiking through beautiful scenery, walking with the penguins and, of course, eating a lot of delicious food. Argentina is of course well-known for its meats at the so-called parrillas, and there were so many choices when I looked up the list of best restaurants in Buenos Aires to visit. One place that constantly came up was La Carniceria in the Palermo neighborhood that is viewed as one of the more contemporary versions of the parrilla tradition, so I decided to give this place a try for the first meal in our Argentina trip. It also turned out that the restaurant was two minutes away on foot from the hotel Jun and I were staying at. While not all the dishes worked, there was no question that the restaurant's signature steak absolutely delivered. We probably should've listened to our server who said one large main dish for sharing would be enough, especially when we were ordering two appetizer dishes. Between the two appetizers, we both really enjoyed the homemade chorizo accompanied by mini potatoes, green peas and fried eggs. The chorizo's texture was spot on, and the slightly salty flavor worked actually quite well with the bottle of red Malbec we opened up. On the other hand, while I thought the caramelized sweetbreads were solid, Jun found them to not capably capture the gamey flavor of the chicken. Now onto the big stuffs. If you absolutely have to order one dish, go for the parrilla cut rib-eye with squash and chimichurri sauce. This massive chunk of meat was really a thing of beauty. While there were rather large areas of fat on the edge, once you remove them carefully you will be rewarded with amazing meats that were more or less cooked to perfection with medium rare temperature we requested, with minimal seasoning other than sprinkles of salt on top. If you feel guilty with eating all this meat, add a side of cabbage whose citrusy flavor worked beautifully with the rib-eye. When I had visited steakhouses before, the side vegetables were usually afterthoughts but not in this case; this meat-vegetable combo was quite fantastic. It also helped that, given the recent inflation Argentina that led to an extremely favorable exchange rate between U.S. dollars and Argentinian pesos (it was hovering around 60 pesos per USD during our visit), we got this impressive meat at just around $30! We probably should've stopped here but got a little greedy (and probably didn't appreciate how large the rib-eye would be) and ordered another dish, a smoked cut featuring a large piece of rib. Not only were we starting to get full by the time we got to the rib but it was actually not quite as delicious as the rib-eye or other BBQ ribs we had eaten elsewhere in New York City (we both found the meat's texture a little too dry). It was a shame we didn't get to the dessert at the end. It's highly recommended that you get a reservation at La Carniceria. Unless you are prepared to give them a call, they are kind of hard to reach via email or Instagram DM; I was able to use the concierge service of my credit card company to secure a spot for us and was glad I did once I saw the modestly-sized dining room packed in full, with many English-speaking tourists. One thing to be mindful when dining in Argentina is that many restaurants tend to open late; we were seated on the earliest slot which was 8:00 p.m.; given our habit of dining at restaurants no later than 7:00 p.m. these days, we felt quite bloated afterwards (it didn't help we had to sleep right away so we could catch an early morning flight to Iguazu Falls the next day). Our server spoke English in a serviceable manner, but I'm pretty sure some things got lost in translation. When you are at an Argentinian parrilla to eat meat, no wine probably works like the red Malbec; La Carniceria had a fairly extensive selection with varying price ranges. Do yourself a favor and order a bottle. La Carniceria is worth a visit during your trip to Buenos Aires if you want to have delicious meats in a trendy but not overly ostentatious setting. Just beware of the size of the meats you will be getting.

We really wanted to love this place. It was our first night out in Buenos Aires and we were beyond ready to experience the famed Argentinian steakhouse. There were people waiting for the restaurant to open, so we just knew we were in for a treat. Inside, the dining room was bright and trendy. The host spoke English which turned out to be a rarity in Buenos Aires. He, recommended that we sit at the bar so that we could "see the show". And quite a show it was, with embers burning and popping all over the place as the grill master prepared the flame for the meat. We started off with excellent cheese and cabbage apps. This only increased our expectations... And then, finally came the meat. The taste was spot on- all that you could hope for. But sadly, the cut we had was so sinewy and chewy it kinda ruined the whole experience for us. So, a lot of expectation, but in reality this turned out to be the second worst dining experience of our entire trip. Que lastima...

We came on a Monday evening with a reservation. That said, there were seve open tables so definitely recommend stopping in if you're looking for something early in the week. Loved the Chorizo and the gin & tonic was fabulous. Ambiance & service were both good.

What a wonderful experience! We liked it so much we went again 2 days later. Christian and his crew were amazing. Every suggestion he made was delicious. Don't miss out on this place, our best dining experience while we were in BA.

I loved La Carniceria, it is a wonderful gem in BA. I got the ribeye and it was the most delicious rib eye I have ever had. I recommend maybe sharing 1 entree and 2 sides since the servings are huge. I hope to visit this place again when I return to Ba

holy shit. this place gets better with time. so first things first... + PEAR PROVOLETA: the BEST provoleta i've had so far. seriously, its amazing. + sweetbread: always so good. the bread on the bottom is seriously DELICIOUS from the juices + smoke cut: THIS i'm so happy i got. the cauliflower + mushroom mixed with the sauce was UNREAL. i actually far appreciated this than the parilla cut. they also have the BEST hot sauce. make sure to ask for it, it makes the sweetbread + smoke cut AMAZING without overpowering the meat. :') i had the best meal, all of this + 2 coffees & 2 waters for $45. you can't beat this. also, make reservations. i've called in a few times for last min walk in and it was tough. either that or go in around 15 minutes after their last seating. usually at 2:45pm, and 10:30pm they can seat you. Carniceria had the largest steaks that we had in BA. But, like other steakhouses, cannot cook the steak to temperature (why do Argentinians hate medium rare?). Anyway, while the steaks were overcooked, they were still juicy and delicious. And not too big to finish. The provoleta here was also really good. The chorizo I would skip.

Beef was too salted but had the works of fine dining. The carrot sauce and the green sauce was really good. Cooked to a perfection. Got to hand it to them for the taste and artistry put into their craft of their dishes NEW PRICES

So I'm not sure why this place got a great rating. If they didn't make a gesture to I would have given this place 2 stars instead of 3. We researched ahead and saw that there are pictures of seafood dishes uploaded on the page, so we thought we're good to go, but when we arrived no seafood was listed on the menu. Was told by our server that they never provided seafood but they can make a vegetarian option by making a plate of items (appetizers). At that point we were seated so okay that's fine with my bro-inlaw. We also asked the portion size of the meats if it was shareable, we didn't want to over order since we've already been to Don Julio for lunch and if we couldn't finish our dish, we didn't have a fridge in our hotel. Our waitress said the portion was just for 1 person, as a result my husband ordered parilla cut (rib eye cut or ny strip he chose rib eye), I had the smoked cut (rib that's been smoked for 20hrs), sister homemade chorizo appetizer, and bro-inlaw vegetarian plate. Bread was given for the table, however we didn't have plates so as we're eating the bread, crumbs are all over the table. We did notice that other tables had plates when they received bread so not sure why we didn't have one. My husbands ribeye(bone in) cut was huge, it's enough for two people to share, however it was really tough and he had it cooked to medium which was still pink/red in the middle. When I say tough I mean it took me about a minute to chew a small piece and it was still hard and stringy. Even with the steak knife given it took a while for him to cut up pieces to eat. This is a steak place the quality of their cuts should be top notched. My dish the smoked cut was really soft and tender and portion enough for 2, and I started sharing my dish with my husband. He didn't want to say anything but It would be ridiculous for him to try to eat it. I called our waitress over and told her the situation and she basically said it was because we had it cooked to medium. I made I comment saying no we've had ribeye cooked to medium with no issue, asked if it was a ribeye cut right. She said yes and offered to cook another one but closer to rare. At this point my husband was like no it's okay because it would be the same cut it'll still be the same and tough. He stopped eating his dish and we continue to eat my dish. Few minutes later our waitress came back and they gave him smoked cut to make up for the ribeye which was nice. It was a smaller portion than what they gave me but it was great they gave him a replacement. Overall, if you come here just order the smoked cut otherwise there are other places for steaks.

Amazing! La Carniceria is not your touristy parrilla. It's a cool, almost hipster, place which seemed to attract a younger crowd overall. A modern and relaxed take on the parilla, let's say. Even at the early seating, it was filled with locals, a good sign. However, La Carniceria is in such high demand that when we arrived 10 minutes late due to BA traffic, our table was given away. With some drama and attitude, we were eventually seated. I believe they called the next res and told them since they were late, their table was going away to us. Bottom line, leave very early especially around 8pm, when traffic is awful (everyday), and be sure to make a reservation. I'm glad we didn't give up on the place. The food was incredible, particularly the steak, which is cooked in a wood burning oven right before your eyes. So moist and flavorful! It's gigantic, and one was plenty for two of us to share (though we also ordered several other items). Simply divine, juicy and great flavor from the wood burning oven. Loved the chimichurri sauce that came with it. One of the best steaks we've ever had! The chorizo (be sure to add hot sauce!) and provoleta were also very nice and had great flavor. We tried: - Smoked Provoleta, Pear, Criolla, Greens (ARS 170) - Homemade Chorizo, Potatoes, Green Peas, Fried Egg (ARS 160) - Parilla Cut, Squash, Chimichurri (ARS 385) - Tomato Salad (ARS 140) - Bread Pudding, Guava, Cheese, Ice Cream (ARS 115) The space itself is very tight, and there aren't too many seats. Note it could get on the warmer side, given the lack of space and wood burning oven. Once seated, though, it is a nice and authentic feeling experience. Aside from the brusqueness of the manager, service was pleasant. Our waiter was friendly and had a good attitude. Wine list had a number of reasonably priced options, and we enjoyed the 2013 Zaha Toko Vineyard Malbec (ARS 670). The gin and tonics also look very good, though we didn't try one. Wish we had! In BA, you have to go for at least one steak, and I highly recommend La Carniceria. Everything was super tasty; it was a memorable meal, and not a place every visitor has gone. Wow - La Carniceria was amazing! It was so good in fact that we visited twice during our five day visit to Buenos Aires. We found La Carniceria on Eater's Essential 38 restaurants in BA list and were able to get reservations with the help of our hotel concierge. The food was amazing, the beef tartare appetizer that comes in a porcelain beef skull bowl was such a great presentation. The steaks were all delicious but the star of the show was the short rib - to die for! The wild boar special was also a highlight. The service was top notch and the decoration makes you feel like you're in a butcher shop! Comparing La Carniceria to Don Julio, we would definitely recommend La Carniceria!

Excellent steakhouse in BA. Not the most traditional but coming from an Argentine, this is the place where you will eat the best organic piece of meat straight from las pampas. I highly recommend the ojo de bife (ribeye) and a bottle of malbec to go with it. The gin and tonic with grapefruit juice and cedron was so refreshing.

We went here on a recommendation from a friend. As others state, it's a small space, so nab a reservation ahead of time. Service was stupendous. Both waiters servicing us spoke excellent English - not required for us, but very helpful nonetheless because we understand basic Spanish and phrases but we aren't fluent. Attentive but not overbearing, with good recommendations and suggestions. The food was really good. Sweetbreads the best we've had - anywhere. Housemade chorizo could have had more spice but was still great (and served in a skillet with potatoes, eggs, and peas - kind of a riff on breakfast?). We elected for the bife de chorizo (ribeye) and smoked beef ribs. Both were good - and very different, which made sharing enjoyable. One of the ribs was a tad dry, but this is with a very critical eye. Portions are huge, which meant for the two of us we couldn't order any veggie sides (the mains themselves have very small veg with them - slightly more than just a garnish). Unlike most grills in Buenos Aires, the meat was not under-seasoned. We had two desserts - leche asado (kind of a firm flan) and the quince bread pudding. Good, but not standouts. For future visits we may consider skipping and trying some of the vegetable sides. Soda water served old-school with your own siphon. Nice cocktail list - a rarity in Buenos Aires. Good wine selection. Prices are on the higher side for Buenos Aires; this would be considered "upmarket" though not "fine dining". More of a hipster place, with a well-executed menu, great ambience and decor, and superior service. Portion sizes suggest more than 2 people can benefit from dining together, allowing more variety. Four people could easily split 3 or even 2 mains, along with some appetizers and sides. Be warned, more than 4 people and you'll almost certainly have extras seated at the 'ends' of a four-top rather than have more tables pushed together. The place really is quite small and they attempt to maximize seating. Understandable, but uncomfortable I'm sure. We will be back.

Thank you Yelp for helping me to find the best food I had while in Buenos Aires at La Carniceria Parrilla & Ahumados! On our last night in BA, my boyfriend and I decided to use Yelp to find somewhere to eat instead of TripAdvisor or our guidebooks. We found La Carniceria in walking distance and went over over at about 9pm. We didn't have a reservation, and at first they told us there wasn't room (there are like 22 seats total in the restaurant and most tables are for 2 only), but as we were about to walk away they told us they could fit us in. Boy were we lucky! We started with the proveleta with pears and brussel sprouts salad. My boyfriend is a picky eater and didn't want to try the pears with the cheese or any of the salad, but ended up basically licking both plates he enjoyed each so much. We then split the smoked ribs for our entree. Other Yelpers had the right idea, 2 starters and 1 entree was plenty of food for the 2 of us. Even though we were pretty full after our meal, we decided to share the Dulce de Leche bread pudding for dessert and demolished that as well. For drinks, I highly recommend the gin and tonic with mandarin that I had. Service was impeccable - 1 server spoke English and the other didn't - but they were both super helpful and attentive. Don't miss out on this restaurant in Buenos Aires!

I went twice during my 3 weeks in Argentina and it was the best overall experience of my trip. This place hits hard on all the key factors: - ambiance - super cool, informal, great vibe. You can watch the asador do his work on the grill - service - great staff, very happy to help out and provide tips - wine - wine by the glass was superb and very comfortably priced - menu - the selection is limited but from what I can see every dish is a winner - food - both times I had the provoleta as a starter and the parilla cut as a main. Flavors were so so excellent. Meat was cooked exactly to my liking, chimi was tasty. - price/value - excellent! super fair for the quality of the food and all of the other factors mentioned above - less expensive than the cliche touristy parillas Overall, it's an awesome place, best food I ate on my entire Argentina trip. It's not an old school parilla so don't go if you're looking for the laundry list of cuts. And don't go if you're looking for stale, white table cloth and suited servers - this place is hip, personable and loud. They know what they're all about and they rock it 100%. And no, you can't reserve online. Call them up and they'll fit you in.

While we waited for the doors to open, we saw some people from the Food Network. That's usually a sign of good food! We arrived on a Sunday, a few minutes before 8pm. Without a reservation, we weren't sure how long we would have to wait, or if we would even get a table. When the doors opened, we were seated right away in a relatively small dining space that looks into an open kitchen with a large grill. Gin Tonics - Apostoles + pulpo + cucumber + huacatay, Apostoles + pulpo + cedron + lime (~100 pesos each, ~$6): The drinks were light and not very strong at all. I didn't taste too much rosemary, so it was very refreshing. Parrilla Cut - squash + chimi (~310 pesos, ~$19): Despite the rapid inflation, the current price is still pretty reasonable, compared to U.S. prices, for such a large slab of meat. Under the crunchy, crisp surface with large grains of salt, the meat was very tender. The meat closer to the bone was excellent. The squash and chimichurri had good flavor, and the squash paste was creamy. I didn't think the steak needed any sauces to accompany it. Cabbage - zucchini broccoli + green peas + garlic + yogurt + parmesan (~120 pesos, ~$7): I love roasted vegetables and these were excellent. The cabbage and broccoli had a nice char to them, with a tangy, salty, garlicky flavor, especially with the shaved parmesan. The only thing that could be improved was the chunk of cabbage was big and somewhat awkward to cut. Nalga - amarillo aji + leche de tigre + sweet potato (~200 pesos, ~$12): The slivers of rare beef in creamy aji sauce was delicious. It was tart, but not overwhelmingly so. The corn kernels and sweet potatoes added to the flavor profile and texture. Everything was delicious. I honestly was not too hungry when I walked in through those doors, but I sure was happy to eat everything once they arrived at the table.

Stopped in at this small eatery and was fortunate to get a seat at the bar. Reservation are a must and keep in mind they only give you 10 minutes to show up or they give your table to who ever showed up. The staff are friendly, helpful and speak English. They also have menus in English. I had the homemade sausage and the stuffed potato. The potato was awesome. It is filled with sour cream, chives and their sausage. They also rub the potato with sea salt. Just season perfectly. The homemade sausage is one large link, two fried eggs, peas and small potatoes. I regret not getting a steak. They looked great. However, I hope not to sit at the bar. The steel seat was very uncomfortable and I was sitting directly across from the burner where they cook the steaks. Way to hot.

This place is awesome - for sure a do not miss! It is as good as it gets, in my opinion, for a steak restaurant. Very casual and fun atmosphere. There is "bar" seating - up close and personal with the grill. I would say reservations are highly recommended as the place is very small. It seems like there are two seatings 8pm and 10 pm. We opted for the earlier and when we arrived just before 8 there were people already waiting. When you walk in the hostess prompts you to choose a table. Once we sat down the place filled in very quickly until it was sold out. Neither my husband nor I are big meat eaters. So when we have meat its a treat and we want it to be really, really good. This was! So much so I'd go back if we weren't in BA for a relatively short time and there are many good restaurants to try. Everything is house-made in this place - the bread, the mayo accompianment for the bread - everything. We started with the chorizo appetizer. Followed by the Parilla steak (a t-bone) and the grilled cabbage and brocolli 'salad' that had a yummy yogurt dressing. We shared everything and it was PLENTY! The service was great with an english menu and english speaking wait staff available. The water was really nice making recommendations including a very nice Malbec blend wine that wasn't the most expensive available. We opted to go to this place instead of the tried and true old school parilla and glad we did!
