The Best Bars In Echo Park

"A candlelit space with an L-shaped bar and a handful of sidewalk tables along Sunset, La Fe is a vaguely French cocktail and wine bar that's a solid low-key alternative to the busier bars along Echo Park's main drag. There’s a plush jewel-toned banquette for lounging and a soft acoustic playlist that doesn’t get too loud or hectic, so you can have an actual conversation. Come here when you need somewhere to hunker down with a friend, order a round of white negronis, and graze on some fancy bar snacks." - brant cox

On the Grid : Ostrich Farm

"Ostrich Farm is a casual neighborhood restaurant right off sunset. The menu holds a great list of ever changing small plates and starters such as mussels, flatbreads, pork rillettes, and pork/veal meatballs. For those more hungry the braised beef pot pie or half roast chicken are staple menu items. A long white marble bar hugs the right side of the room and is perfect for one/two people to beat the waitlist on most nights. A warm atmosphere at night and bright sunlit room during the day it's a great spot for both dates and families. They serve breakfast and lunch till 2 and dinner 5 till close but are closed on Mondays. Photos: Lauren Moore" - Ludlow Kingsley

After a Dodgers game, my group wandered into this gem of a bar and were met with a welcoming bartender Ivan. The cocktails were artfully balanced, the food nothing short of exquisite, and the music low enough to let laughter and conversation flow freely. If there was anything to dim the glow, it was a sparse backbar and restrooms that seemed forgotten by the staff.

I was looking a space to write + a second coffee and found this spot on my walk! The interiors are beautiful, reminiscent of an editorial feature from somewhere in Spain or adjacent. I got their cold brew which was great, nothing too complicated:) I'd really like to come back in the morning for an espresso beverage and sit at the bar for a few hours. I enjoyed how welcoming the space is despite me being one of the three patrons in at the time. I imagine the switchover from brunch to dinner is notoriously slow during the week, but can easily see a book club setting up here before the evening crowd. Their cocktail menu is thoughtful and enticing, and singlehandedly worth a return visit! These are the kinds of spaces I hope to see more of in LA.

Wonderful dining experience with top notch vibes. The pancakes were unique, the entrees were delightful, and Sydney's service put the experience over the top. Wonderful spot for brunch!

Staff was very gentle and professional. Food was yummy , smaller menu but if you’re not in a picky mood it’s perfect. Very pretty spot for business meet up or a cute Sunday w friends. Best part / they were SO welcoming to my dog, offered a spot with space and brought water bowl. I love this energy in a fancier place.

Google
La Fe bar got SO MUCH BETTER in the past couple months, like wow what a glow up! Loved the morning bagel menu (is it gone already?!) - the bagel with vegan cream cheese is my perfect breakfast. Quiet & cozy in the am, and a perfect date spot in the pm - it's happening, but not too crowded or loud so you can actually talk. my only note - get them vegan options coming!

Great addition to the area! On my first visit I’ve had brunch and was impressed by their shakshuka and cottage cheese pancakes which was a surprise to see on a menu. The other night I stopped by for a drink before a concert and the vibe was cozy with pleasant music and candles. My drink was delicious and bartenders were friendly and welcoming. Will be back when I’m in the neighborhood!

Google
Love this hip date cocktail bar. The vibe from staff is warm and kind. Music is on point too!! Weekends they have dj’s. I discovered recently they have brunches from 8am too and that’s brings more points ;)

Yelp
My friends and I went to Le Fe for Sunday brunch and had amazing time! Since it was a slow Sunday we were able to easily find street parking. I had the Body and Soul cocktail! It was delicious! Love a tequila and espresso drink! The food was amazing too! It tasted really fresh and flavorful! It was my perfect breakfast! The portion size was filling! The service was amazing! Our waitress was super friendly and did not rush us. Love their adorable puppy mascots too!

Yelp
How does this place have such good reviews, I don't understand! Pretty food, drinks, and restaurant decor, but bad service, bland cocktail, and overpriced food. My boyfriend and I came here on a Friday afternoon for a bite and a drink before going to an art show at a gallery a few doors down. The menu was very minimal and says they do not make substitutions or modifications. We got the deviled eggs and the charcuterie board, and when we ordered we asked if it came with any cheese (no, only meat) and if we could order cheese to go with it (also no). The only option was to order a side of bread, which it doesn't come with. We also each ordered a cocktail off their menu. The place was not busy but the wait times were very long. We finally got what we ordered and were immediately so disappointed by the "deviled eggs". Really? 1 egg cut in half for $12? That salmon roe was not a good addition either, it made them pretty but SO salty! The side of bread was the best thing we ordered, it was crispy and delicious, but the charcuterie was pretty boring. If they added cheese, or some kind of spread it would balance it so much more. It felt like half of a thought since if we didn't order break it was just a plate with sliced meat. The cocktails were honestly probably the worst part. My cocktail tasted like super watered down pineapple juice, like id you let the ice melt after finishing a glass of juice. Extremely bland. I wanted to ask for something else, but once we got our order we could not find a waiter again. We went inside too but nobody was around! After probably 30 minutes we finally caught someone and just asked for the check because we had to get going. This place really seems more like a photo op than a good place to eat. I know this area has gotten bougier, but this is too far. We went to Gyoza Bar a little up the street after the show and we're SO HAPPY with the food and cocktails!

Yelp
Really really yummy drinks had 1 awesome margarita on the menu with cucumber! So yum try it!! The service was so fast and the bartender was fun! The vibe is chill, relax, bring some friends and talk! Def a cool place to relax and have a drink!

Yelp
the most comfortable vibe. i could have sat there for hours. the drink i ordered was okay. not the best. i forgot what it was, but i posted a picture. i'll prob be back again just because it was so relaxing to be at and i'm sure i could try another drink. we tried two appetizers that were really good- the crispy pigs ear and the duck croquettes so another reason to go back and try the dinner menu

Yelp
La Fe is a cute and home-y wine bar in a prime location in Echo Park, across the street from Donna's and next to Reverie Bookstore. PARKING: Street parking only on a very busy Sunset, although there is more parking (albeit usually pretty full) heading into the residential area. There is a public paid lot about 5 min walking which can also fill up. FOOD: I came during a Boy Blue pop where the menu changed every week. It was delicious! Price points were $15-$20 but the portions were more small bites, not super filling. DRINKS: Cocktails are $$, although typical for the area in LA. I had the Dreamy Boy which was $17. The drink was light and tasted good, as someone who both doesn't like the taste of alcohol but also dislikes super-sweet drinks. SERVICE: Every server was very warm and welcoming. Food and drinks were served in a timely manner. For an area that can be iffy on customer service, I felt very comfortable. SEATING: They have bar seating and couch seating with stools that are pretty low, so may not be the most comfortable for long periods of time. Overall this is such a cute and cozy spot. I definitely would go again- hopefully there will be more pop-ups!

Yelp
Stopped at Le Fe Saturday morning as they now are open 7am for coffee and breakfast items. If you know the area specifically that block you know it is not common to find breakfast items so this was nice. Ordered the everything bagel with fried egg- don't recall the name but it had crumbled fresh cheese, avocado and green herbs. The bagel was a good size. The service was and is always 10/10. I have stopped by before for a night cap cocktail, I was so hungry that night fortunately they had fries I would recommend for cocktails and weekend AM breakfast & coffee. Daytime has a nice natural lighting with a cozy vibe, in the evening it is very dim but for sure recommend for a date night or any intimate small gathering.

Yelp
Beautiful bar with a great atmosphere, a perfectly made Old Fashioned, and friendly staff--I have no complaints at all. The only reason I hesitate to leave a review is that I'd love to keep this place my hidden gem... that's how much I enjoyed it! I haven't had the chance to try the food yet, but I'll definitely be coming back soon.

Yelp
One of the best bars in Echo Park . Perfect environment and a great hang. Low key, great music and good crowd.

Yelp
Escape to the heart of Echo Park and indulge in the vibrant energy of La Fe - where handcrafted cocktails meet a cozy ambiance, creating the perfect backdrop. We ordered the Earth Angel (sake, sherry, pineapple & coriander shrub, lemon) and High Lonesome (mezcal, sage, honey, lemon) Not featured are the other two drinks we ordered Dimples (blanca tequila, aloe vera liquor, cucumber, lime, yerba sante) and Body & Soul (reposado tequila, blackstrap rum, espresso [that's that me, espresso ], coconut, and black sesame. If you're a black sesame fan, ORDER THIS! Seating is first come, first serve. Our drinks did take a while to arrive.

Yelp
Great local energy. Owner Jaime Turrey was the creative behind the legendary Ostrich Farm, formerly in the same space, and all the feels that OF carried with it exist here, but modified by the casual, crash into a deep corner sofa feels that Bar Calo (also a Jaime creation) brought with it. Plenty of mood, an inspired menu with meals and snacks, and a LOCAL feeling. This is a small business, not some corporate investment strategy like a lot of the other places popping up in the area. And I'm all about supporting. I've been by on a few nights lately and it's always a proper vibey scene. Not too busy but elevated and updated. Also they open at 10am and do breakfast and lunch...I'm going to go try soon.

Yelp
Great vibes, comfy seats and live DJ on Friday night. Tasty cocktails & mocktails. Would make a great date spot.

Roxanne S.

Yelp
It's such a cute spot and the cocktails are great, but I was very disgusted when I looked inside the carafe that they served me water from and it was rusted. When I brought it up to the servers attention, he said it wasn't rusty and kept serving people water from it...

Yelp
This review is for Nawal, the Syrian food that is served inside La Fe. I swear I saw an IG reel of them serving food out of a window, but that may have changed/too much time passed since the video recording and time of visit. The seating is very comfortable, almost too comfortable. There was this couple lounging in the corner and watching their dog roam around inside. The menu was confusing because it's just a QR code. There are no photos to see what kind of food it was. We had to ask the server soo many questions. Ngl the La Fe server was annoyed that we wanted mostly the food. We ended up ordering a couple cocktails just to make her happy. We decided all the food was good. Cocktails were ok. I'd be back for the vibes.

Yelp
Really beautiful bar in echo park! prices are just like anywhere else in LA so might as well enjoy the ambiance. Our drinks were very good, I like the small drink menu they have and they also have a rotating guest kitchen. No designated parking so you will need to weave in and out of streets near by for parking.
google avatar

Bryan G.

Yelp
Drinks were okay nothing special about it. I didn't try the food the service was good and the ambiance is nice

Gayle P.

Yelp
La Fe is the type of neighborhood bar/bites hang that makes you feel like you're part of a COMMUNITY. Sunny and open-feeling in the daytime, candle lit and glowy in the evenings, La Fe is decorative and homey and welcoming. You can curl up on the comfy sofas, are never rushed, the entire staff is friendly and personable, and if you're super lucky one of the precious loving Pitty mascots will nap next to you. Quite an honor indeed! Cocktails aren't cheap, but they're tasty and special, and anyway - you'll be hard-pressed to find inexpensive cocktails ANYWHERE post-Covid and we have to support our local small businesses that make our neighborhoods feel special. La Fe is truly special.

Yelp
Good chill vibes, good music, great drinks, bartenders were super nice -- can't wait to come back!
google avatar

Steven H.

Yelp
Newer cocktail spot across from low boy and the others on sunset. I walked in and said wow this looks just like the old Bar Calo vibes...turns out it's the same owner! The bartender Frank fired up some martinis and a dreamy boy...I came for one, and ended up having 3. They are dangerously good. Shaken with a ton of ice, you do NOT taste the alcohol. Super delicious and went down quick. Frank made me laugh and was too fun to deal with. Quite honestly ; this spot will blow up as one of the best cocktail spots within the mile radius...sorry, it's that good. I usually complain about prices but the vibe and taste were too good, it was worth every penny.

Yelp
We recently found this little gem in Echo Park! The atmosphere is really cute, it's like you're at your friends living room with jazz playing in the background. I've been looking for a brunch place with such great atmosphere. The food was really good, it had some Eastern European flavor to it which we loved. Syrniki desert was top notch! They also have great service. All in all 10 out of 10! Definitely recommend!
google avatar

Yelp
we had such a great time at La Fe ! the food was delicious and drinks are so fancy and affordable at the same time love atmosphere and vibe feels very welcoming definitely recommend checking out

Yelp
Service on a Sunday night was sweet and nice. The drinks are good and heavy handed but yet give a good balance. It's a very nice casual place for a drink, would 100% come back again.
google avatar

Sophie H.

Yelp
Kindness, community, and happiness, just a few words to describe how welcoming this fabulous establishment is. Babe and Frankie (cute bar pups) are absolute angels while the owner Jamie is so kind. Jamie knows how to build community and connections, making a home in the heart of echo park.
google avatar

Yelp
I had a very pleasant experience at La Fe. Excellent service and cool vibes. The entire experience from the moment I walked in, was fantastic.

Yelp
Omgggg the vibe in here is dopeeeee, but I need answers as to where they bought their couch bc I swear it's the softest most comfiest one I've ever sat on!!! Plsss @ the owner I need to know! Sitting here after bar hopping on sunset is dangerous cause I swear I just wanted to hug the pillow and call it a night right there, like the pillows were huge body pillow things ughhhh imma have to go back just for this
google avatar

Yelp
Stumbled upon this spot walking in Silverlake! Such a cute and cozy vibe for a night cap, I loved both of the drinks we got! They also have some syrian food options from Nawal, can't wait to try them next time!

Yelp
Couldn't say better things about this spot! Neighborhood local spot and incredible vibes, ambience and cocktails. Came in for the 4th and was super happy I did, a little bbq and my favorite mezcal drink was just what I needed. Stayed for hours.. met new friends and will definitely be back. Look no further for a great space! Can't wait to go back! The bartenders and the owner were a pleasure to be around. Great recommendations and didn't even need to look at a menu, that's service !!
google avatar

Julia M.

Yelp
Been a few times to this new spot and we love it. The cocktails are really interesting! The pink one in my photos in the Dreamy Boy, so yummy! And there's a super rich chocolate coconut one that's such an awesome dessert cocktail, I forget the name. Have also grabbed a few dinners, chicken wings and fries once and then a patty melt with fries. Both good. Attentive cool bartenders that are fun to chat with. Also. I love the wallpaper! Haha. Low lighting with candles is relaxing, and I love the music choices they play on vinyl. All around good vibe. Regarding what several people said ie "colonizer vibes" and "gentrification"... uh... y'all must not be from the neighborhood, or else you are somehow uninformed. I have lived in Echo Park for over a decade. And the people who run La Fe are the same people who had Ostrich Farm - the super delish, very popular spot that was in the exact same spot as La Fe right before it. We spoke to one of the owners, Jaime, during our first visit and he was very cool. They've had this location for many years, and have survived and come back with a different vision after the pandemic. "La Fe" means "the faith" in Spanish, that's why they chose the name, I asked. I thought it meant "fairy" in French, lol - nope ! So - disregard the haters who are throwing undeserved shade at someone who has actually been part of the community for years (they opened Ostrich Farm in 2014)!! It's that kind of behavior that makes people hate Yelp. For real people. It's mean, untrue, unhelpful, and can really harm local small businesses. So anyways - if you're in the neighborhood, definitely go check out this new spot, especially if you liked Ostrich Farm! It's not the same - but it is the same people, and you will probably dig it! Definitely a good date night spot. Vibey / tasty / fun!

Yelp
Cool little spot on Sunset in Echo Park area. Stumbled upon this place and fully enjoyed the vibe here. The server had great energy. I only got a white wine. So not sure if the cocktails are good. But judging by what I witnessed I'm sure they are. Definitely will return to make sure I have another review. But for now. *Thumbs up*

Yelp
The absolute best bar in Echo Park. You want good vibes good music and the best drinks you've ever had and you better hurry up and come here.

Yelp
Super cute spot for a drink. We stopped in while waiting for a dinner reservation across the street. We has two amazing dirty martinis. Good music, cozy vibes.

Yelp
Really cool space. Great tunes. Best cortado I've had. And great bagel sandwich. We shared the Mom in Town. Lots of fresh veggies, fluffy cheeses and a friedegg. Can't wait to come back!

Yelp
The ambiance was great! Very pretty and clean aesthetic. Loved the location to go bar hopping

Yelp
Food here is really distinct and delicious. The people who operate/work here are all very distinct characters and wonderful to interact with. You need to go to this place, take my word for it...
google avatar

Yelp
Atmosphere was great for a typical la night I will most definitely be coming back here

Igor K.

Yelp
New favorite spot when venturing out of SGV into LA. The owners are friendly and thoughtful. The business is clearly a labor of love with every detail thought out. I appreciate being able to stay past closing time with no pressure or guilt. Old school cool. Got a lot done on the side as I was comfortable and productive. Will be back soon and can't wait to show close friends.

Charles S.

Yelp
Chill atmosphere with nice cocktails. Caleb was fantastic as our bartender. thanks for a great experience
google avatar

Jennifer D.

Yelp
This place is lovely inside! Their drinks are delicious. I had the Old Fashioned, and it definitely stood out as one of the best I've had. It's a good place for date night or to catch up with friends. It's pretty small inside which gives it an intimate feel, but also limits seating options. I would definitely recommend giving this place a try.

Dianne W.

Yelp
If you have opposing views of the bar tender and the females their trying to date than you will be refused service. I went there once and never again. Thank you for asking me to leave because of thoughts.
google avatar

Yelp
Frank is the best! Super attentive and made sure me and my group were happy with our drinks and even helped me find the right wine. Super cute spot, comfy, beautiful layout and vibes are so romantic. Loved it !!

Yelp
My favorite new happy hour. Food is always delicious. Service staff is always courteous and friendly

Yelp
A good meeting place for friends, good drink, and pleasant lighting. There are places that advertise of more, be careful of those places.

Yelp
Welcome to the neighborhood! Thanks for opening up in a spot that had shut down during the pandemic. Will update this review when I have a minute.

Steve S.

Yelp
Nice vibe with special mocktail. Great ambiance. Nice service. Cute girls and handsome bartenders
google avatar

Pierre C.

Yelp
Nice casual spot. It just opened so the menu is limited for now. Good snacks and cocktails for now. Much more quiet than other spots on Sunset so perfect for a date or a casual hang with friends.
google avatar

Rosslyn L.

Yelp
This spot is stunning. The house cocktails and bites are deliciously elevated. 10/10 for a date night!
google avatar

Michelle F.

Yelp
I love this spot. Great vibe, cocktails are always on point. The bartenders are knowledgeable and fast. Super cute cozy date spot with a good neighborhood feel.

Steven D.

Yelp
Nice ambiance for a cocktail or beer. Tea candles, small cocktail tables, a couple cozy corners, a long bar, and friendly bartenders. Pet friendly. There is a limited food menu, which appears to be an after thought and changes day to day. The night I was there the main items were tinned "sardines"/crackers and "charbroiled burger." The "sardines" were actually (very salty) anchovies -- a difference the staff did not appreciate. The burger -- ordered "rare" -- was burnt to a crisp. Bottom line: Go to drink, not to eat.

Ericka S.

Yelp
Fun atmosphere with fun and tasty cocktails. I recommend the gin-based Dreamy Boy. Service was friendly and let you enjoy the space. The tables are a little low and tight. But all around good time.
