Unpacking With Justin Theroux: A Work (and Fun) Trip to Italy for ‘Devil Wears Prada 2’ | Condé Nast Traveler

"The real highlight was this one restaurant, Latteria, a genuine little Mom and Pop restaurant with about five tables. I had the best pasta: simple, with olive oil, a bit spicy, a touch of lemon zest, and peperoncino on it. It was honestly one of the best things I’ve ever put in my mouth. It’s an older couple that runs the place. The husband is the chef and the wife runs the tables. Even though the language barrier was present, it felt really home-y and nice. There’s something about Italian restaurants in Italy that have, sort of, terrible lighting; it’s almost fluorescent. So it’s always a touch too bright, but somehow cozy at the same time." - Jessica Chapel

The 19 Best Restaurants In Milan - Milan - The Infatuation

"Milan’s hottest dining spot isn’t new—it’s the beloved La Latteria, which recently reopened after its closure last year left a void in the city. After almost six decades, the restaurant’s cherished owners retired, but cashmere heir Vittoria Loro Piana acquired the spot and brought back the original owners, Maria and Arturo Maggi, for six months to guide the new team. With just nine tables, La Latteria’s iconic dishes remain: spaghetti with lemon and fresh green chili (parmesan requests discouraged!) and soft eggs baked with butter and topped with bottarga. Seasonal vegetable sides, like anchovy-dressed puntarelle and zucchini in mustard olive oil, complete the menu. Order one of everything and pass it around. Latteria is closed on weekends and does not accept reservations." - elizabeth de filippo jones

We loved it so much. One of the best local food we’ve had. Amazing food amazing funny local owners:) the owner’s wife who serves was hilarious. Highly highly recommend this place and want to come back again!

Honestly probably the best pasta I’ve had in Italy (also exceptional puntarelle salad), and an overall amazing experience – the restaurant is tiny and cute, the service is extremely friendly and authentic, the clientele is a mix of locals and foreigners, the prices are reasonable considering the exceptional quality. Conveniently located not too far from Porta Garibaldi station, so you can drop there between two trains (definitely worth the detour).

I was so excited to go here. I had a last day of a 14 day trip in Italy. Milan was our last night I wanted a great meal to end the trip. My husband and I got to the restaurant early to be told no room, no more tables for the night at 8pm. With 7 tables there has to be at least one turn around. Honestly it was because I was American. I was so sad because I was so happy there was no line. I was sure we were going to get a table. The fact that I knew about the restaurant should mean I’m not that uncool. Jeez, so sad

Prepare to discover a true gem tucked away in the heart of Milano. This delightful establishment offers not only mouthwatering cuisine but also a warm, family-oriented atmosphere that will leave you with a smile on your face. Despite its cozy size, with only around seven tables, this place delivers an extraordinary dining experience. The well-experienced chef works culinary magic, crafting dishes that are truly unforgettable. I can confidently say that the pasta I had here was the best I've ever tasted in Milano. Each bite was a symphony of flavors and textures that showcased the chef's skill and passion for his craft. But the excellence doesn't stop at the pasta. The rest of the menu is equally impressive, featuring highlights like the delectable Bottarga salad that left a lasting impression. The attention to detail and the use of high-quality ingredients are evident in every dish. What sets this place apart, however, is not just the food but also the heartwarming service. The staff goes above and beyond to ensure that every guest feels like a part of the family. The genuine warmth and hospitality create an atmosphere that is as comforting as the food itself. For an unforgettable dining experience that combines delicious cuisine, a welcoming atmosphere, and exceptional service, this place is an absolute must-visit. Don't miss the opportunity to indulge in the culinary delights that await you here. You'll leave with a satisfied palate and memories that will last a lifetime.

La Latteria, a beloved family-owned restaurant nestled in the heart of Milan, has been a culinary gem for generations. With its rustic charm and warm ambiance, this charming eatery offers an authentic taste of Italian comfort food. La Latteria is renowned for its delectable homemade pasta, creamy risottos, and mouthwatering tiramisu. What truly sets it apart, however, is the sense of tradition and hospitality that permeates every meal, making diners feel like cherished guests in a beloved Italian home. Whether you're savoring their signature dishes or indulging in a glass of fine Italian wine, La Latteria captures the essence of Milan's rich culinary heritage, leaving visitors with a taste of Italy they won't soon forget.

Food is great - this is a pretty local place. Vibes aren’t great (harsh lighting) but it’s run by locals and serves locals. The lemon pasta is unreal.

Google
Well this was by far a disappointment and all because of the service and prices associated to the dishes. Please nonna if you're going to charge €18 for any home made pasta at least give a decent serving. If this is what you call a first plate for pasta, not exactly the most amazing fosh I've ever had. The service was so rude, clearly, Italians no surprises as if you didn't work within what they like to serve God forbid. Really rude, they want you out quickly and definitely do not have hospitality. Spilled red wine all over my friend and did nothing about it. Wouldn't be coming back here anytime soon for average food.

Yelp
This is probably the best restaurant in the world. Be patient. You have to wait for a table. There are no reservations and it is delightfully small. Without any airs or pretense the preparation of the best quality food is unique. Two eggs are cooked in solid silver pans-- why? The owner patiently explains the chemical process and declares, "it's for good health!" I am from Milano and the owner speaks Italian. I've seen reviews where people complain about the language problems. Frankly, I don't understand this. I don't expect people to speak Italian (or English) in other countries-- in any continent. The freshness of the ingredients is not ruined by any heavy sauces. If you appreciate excellent, nutritious food delicately prepared you will be in great hands. The ambience is extremely sweet without being precious. I think the prices are more than reasonable. Everything is made to order-- this is not "industrial"-- I adore this place. It you are seeking sauces and garnishes you may want to dine in Paris. Please appreciate this unique gem for what it is, not complain for what is is not. We were there at the end of April 2022 and cannot wait to return.

Yelp
We were recommended to dine here by a friend who is an Italian-focused travel agent and who knows his stuff. We arrived as the place opened for dinner (7:30pm) and were the second people seated, but within about five minutes the place was packed, mostly with locals who seemed not only to know the staff well, but many of them knew each other, too. The menu is only in Italian, and some of the terms used are in Milanese dialect, but our waiter (Jimmy) spoke good enough English for us to get by. There is no set menu of the day, so everyone orders a la carte, choosing antipasti, primi and secondi from the menu. Pricing is on the high side, I'd say, but the quality is very good and the service is both friendly and swift. We ordered an antipasto to share (culatello, excellent), followed by two primi (black rice with buttata and cherry tomatoes; spaghetti with capers and lemon, also both excellent, with a slight preference for the spaghetti), and two secondi. The secondi is where we had translation problems. Since they used Milan dialect we didn't know what "fassane" was, but thought it was pheasant (nope, it's veal), and the "polpettine" weren't little octopus but little meatballs. Nonetheless we enjoyed it all. Wine is very limited--it's either a white or a red, served in a little carafe from a tap behind the counter, but it's cheap (€5 for a 500ml carafe) and good. You probably can't get much more local than this, but it comes at a price--the dinner above (with an espresso at the end) clocked in at €98, rather a lot, I thought. But for our first dinner in Italy this trip it seemed worth it.

Yelp
Lucky me had a friend doing the homework and did internet searches on places to visit in Milan, and this little restaurant appeared on every list. No reservation is possible and the kitchen closes at 10pm. You may find people older than your grandparents preparing and serving your meal. This is a unique culinary experience: real tasty, simple, ecologically grown food served in a charming little place where time had stood still. Really do make an effort to get a table here, it is so worth it.

Yelp
6 tables, only cash, no reservations or english. I love this place and the food was epic! Showed up 9:50 for 10 o'clock closing. Great evening.

Yelp
Reviews that describe this restaurant as a small, quaint family-run restaurant are on point, so be sure you understand what that means. If you are going for the type of meal you'd have at someone's house, you won't be disappointed. If you are looking for any kind of culinary fanciness, you may be in for a letdown. No reservations, cash only, 9 tables. Wine choices are house red or white. No balsamic vinegar. I wanted some To make a dressing for the completely unadorned lettuce and tomatos I ordered. Granted, the tomatos were wonderfully fresh, but I needed something. Menu is in Italian, and the waiter who speaks the most English will be able to tell you "rabbit, anchovies, corgette" (we all remember what a corgette is, right?), but that's about it. We knew there were no reservations, so we got there 2 minutes after it opened, but somehow all tables were taken. The owner said 40 minutes, and I was concerned because people were streaming in to get on the waitlist. I've been pushed to the back of a waiting list before, so I was worried since I was obviously an American, and there were many Italians jockeying for a table. He was true to his word, and 40 minutes later we sat down. My husband ordered a salami appetizer. Sliced salami. It was tasty, perhaps made in house, but again, completely simple. No garnish. We the. Had the spaghetti limone. Had a nice spicy kick along with the lemon. The waiter suggested I get the grilled veal, and my husband got the sliced beef. Both were tasty, but again tasty on the merit of simplicity. No sauce. Just meat. For dessert fresh strawberries with ice cream out of a gallon tub. Could well have been the Italian version of Pet ice cream. Fortunately, my husband enjoyed his meal and was charmed by being at a mom and pop local spot, but I think I might have become a bit spoiled and would have enjoyed a bit more panache for one of only two meals I had in Milan.

Yelp
Great food! Be ready with the translator or be prepared to ask for help if you are uncertain about the ingredients as the menu is only in Italian. That's actually not a big deal and a good indication you're at a great place enjoyed by locals. Every dish we had was well-prepared and came out rather fast. At times I felt the waiter was becoming impatient with our questions. The chef came out and asked how it was but didn't seem to care TOO much about our opinion. Either way, the food is really great, simple, and honest. Nothing pretentious about any of this. Give them a try! Highly recommend!

Yelp
Be aware - this restaurant is in an affluent part of Milan and attracts the well heeled locals, tourists and some fashionistas (this is Milan after all) - none of whom seem to mind paying what is for Milan very high prices for good, but not exceptional, food. The fashionistas and the locals presumably like the homely ambience and it is clear that many of the locals have been coming here for years - since they were children. But they can afford 20 euros plus for a simple pasta with no meat. The tourists, like us, come because it gets good press on several listings. We had lemon pasta (simple spaghetti flavoured with oil, lemon, parsley and a hint of chilli) which was actually rather bland (and expensive at €20), a more successful penne with excellent very thin sliced pancetta (again about €20) and a couple of rounds of so called 'bistecca inglessi' which was actually simple warm & moist roast beef slices - quite tasty, but €24 a pop... Like I said - simple food at eye watering prices - and as I also said, if you are local, you're doing fine and the prices are nothing to you and the fashionistas are no doubt on expenses. It's a pleasant enough little place but you can honestly get better food cheaper even in Milan.

Yelp
Just the way i like. Simple place, wholesome food, no frills. But i left feeling absolutely brilliant!

Maria P.

Yelp
The place had a lot of expectations. Food is OK, nothing special. A house like cuisine. The prices are definitely too high for the place and for the quality. Credit cards not accepted. So be aware you have to go there with enough cash. Average is 40€ each for a 2 course menu. Another thing to consider is that they press you for eating quickly as they want to have the most number of customers. So do not expect to eat calmly, you will be pressed to finish very quickly
