"Megan Kimble of Austin Monthly paid a visit to La Matta this week, and was reminded of the things Italians do right. She claims that the East Sixth casual Italian shop proves that “love sometimes arrives in the form of a sandwich.” Kimble enjoyed La Matta’s “fresh” panini on “delicious” baguettes. She also notes the charcuterie is “fantastic,” writing that: She particularly recommended the No. 10 with soppressata, burrata, eggplant, ’nduja sausage, and basil, and felt that vegetarians would be satisfied with the No. 11 panini (grilled eggplant, roasted peppers, olive pâté, avocado, and basil on a wheat baguette). She also enjoyed the salads, particularly the kale salad with mango and endive and a side of “fluffy” burrata." - Erin Russell

"The East Side got a much-needed Italian sandwich shop with La Matta, located at Fifth and Comal. You can expect excellent sandwiches topped with things like prosciutto, mortadella, and sopressata, but they also serve charcuterie boards, salads, and homemade burrata and mozzarella. It’s a great option for quick weekday takeout or for enjoying some wine, meat, and cheese on the patio, and if you’re in need of a quick cup of coffee, they do that too. photo credit: Andrew Reiner" - Adele Hazan

It's hard to beat bread made from scratch, same-day. Not to mention homemade basil pesto, great atmosphere, friendly service, and high-quality meats and cheeses! Sandwiches avg about $10-$13, but well worth it! Parking is difficult, but worth the extra walk to get here.

Atmosphere: Italian sidewalk cafe, upscale casual Service: Gracious and efficient counter service Food: Sandwichwmes, salads, antipasto and dessert offerings. The #3 panini is fantastic with prosciutto, buttery mozzarella, and arugula on fresh crusty bread. Pricing: $13.00 for sandwich alone

I had a very good fresh mozzarella cheese, tomato, and basil sandwich. The bread was great; a thin crispy layer outside and warm and chewy inside. I also purchased a loaf of bread to take home. Glad this place is in my neighborhood!

I’ll admit the sandwiches here are pretty tasty 👍🏼. This is coming from someone who doesn’t normally eat cold sandwiches. The ambience is really nice too. All of the staff are friendly and there are plenty of windows and light to fill the inside, and surprisingly lots of room on their patio. The only thing about this place that keeps me from going more often is their prices. And I’ve heard that from multiple people, so I’m not just being stingy.

Excellent paninis. Ingredients are fresh and the bread is great. La Matta is a perfect lunch spot on the east side.

I went for the first time not enough meat on the sandwich. I went a second time and thought I was clever ordering double meat. Well instead of one sliver of meat I got two!!! So two sandwiches w double meat, chips and a drink... 40 dollars later... I was still hungry. Other than that everything was great!!!

Such a cute little spot, felt very welcomed here. Their cheeseboard was incredible, we especially loved their roasted nuts, pistachios, and the crostini!

Fantastic lil sandwich shop across the street from the White Horse. Freshly baked bread combined with fresh greens and Italian cuts make for a damn tasty sandwich.
