"In the former shell of a fast food stalwart, this longstanding Gresham taqueria is able to appease a wide range of cravings. Those seeking a sloppy pile of California-style asada fries or nachos will find strong versions of both here. Those looking for a beautiful, char-marked take on carne asada will likely find one of the strongest versions in Portland Metro. And those who want to inhale a lineup of birria tacos, with a side of deep, rich consomé, will find one of the most generous servings here, for the price." - Krista Garcia, Eater Staff

"This Gresham Mexican restaurant serves everything from vampiros to pozole, but it’s also a regular stop for those craving fish tacos. Battered fish or shrimp arrives on a corn tortilla with cabbage, cilantro, onion, and a squiggle of chipotle sauce, with optional add-ons like avocado, pico de gallo, and Monterey jack. They’re available on their own, or in a set of three." - Jenni Moore

"It makes sense that a taqueria with Tijuana in its name serves quesabirria in addition to Tijuana-style tacos, though purists might miss the side of consommé for dipping. La Tía Juana Taqueria is open for takeout, delivery, and has a drive-thru." - Krista Garcia

"In a repurposed Wendy’s that still has KFC signage in the drive-thru, La Tía Juana Taqueria proves that some of the best tacos can be found in former fast food joints. The taqueria claims to serve Tijuana-style tacos, an approach characterized by mesquite-grilled meat and generous globs of guacamole that have taken LA by storm. The grill appeared to be gas-fired; still, the carne asada still has a nice char, and the tacos get bonus points for being served on hand-made tortillas. Friday through Sunday, the restaurant makes tacos de cabeza al vapor, steamed tacos filled with tender beef from a cow’s head and cheeks." - Krista Garcia

Google
The food was excellent, with hand made tortillas and nicely seasoned meats. The hostess that helped us was attentive and made some menu suggestions. She also cleaned off a table in the covered outdoor eating area so my 2 year old granddaughter could be as loud as she wanted😁 We’ll definitely be back.

Google
Disgusting. Bean and cheese burrito flops, literally, and beans are gross. Al pastor meat quality is awful. Their “pico de gallo” they sell is literally chopped tomato, onion and cilantro, no extra juice or seasonings to tie it together. Inedible.

Google
Fire food for price me and my kids go all the time. My go to place for affordable burrito

Google
Consistently great experience on Grubhub. Solid burrito. Good tortillas. Tried the birria this time and it was the best I’ve had in PDX. I live in Baja California and have tried many places in Portland. This is a great option

Google
Best tacos with homemade tortillas I’ve had in many years of living in Gresham and service is great! This is the spot for Mexican food!

I'm here in Portland on business. I've been starving for local fare since I arrived! I got burned by a local suggestion last night, and found La Tia Juana due to a top suggestion on Uber Eats tonight. I have 2 regrets: 1: I barely found out about this place today. 2: I didn't order more than one Quesabirria. I had the Nachos Al Pastor and was very impressed with the presentation even as a delivery. All the ingredients were fresh and flavorful. Very generous servings of meat! Came with 4 different salsa cups. Each one is delicious in it's own way, but loved the dark green and the deep red salsas the most. The Quesabirra was nice and crunchy on the outside, warm and delicious on the inside. Seriously should have gotten at least 2 of those! The size is maybe a little smaller than my fist, again, lots of flavor!

There is a wrapper of some sort in my burrito of PASTOR. This is the second time I find an object in my food from this same place. Last time was a METAL STAPLE. Apparently nothing has changed. This place needs to get evaluated with their cleanliness. Also, The picture with the STAPLE was from last year June 2023. I was a longtime customer but I will never trust or buy their food ever again. No idea why I even bothered after finding a staple in my food. DISGUSTING. EDIT: On top of all that, they delivered me the wrong meat, that is clearly not carnitas. And to reply to the “onion peel,” I ordered it with no onion so that should’ve never been near my food.

Yelp
There food has gone downhill, it's not as good as before, they so stingy with guacamole now.

Yelp
We've been about four five times I lost count and every time I say I'll take pictures real quick and can never do it because we just want to sit down and eat the food! I've only sat down once and ate there it was basically empty, clean. Not all cashiers are friendly and very welcoming but the food the times we have gone has been very good! Tasteful although they can do more cilantro I am big on cilantro my kids who are picky love their chicken tacos. The kids taco order is very generous with rice and beans and two tacos so very filling.

Casandra D.

Yelp
Food was delicious! Would definitely go again when I'm on that side of town. Service was quick!

Yelp
The burrito and torta gets the job done and that's about it. The Al pastor burrito was limey, as were the salsas. The salsas were tomato or tomatillo heavy with a lack of flavor other than lime. The burrito is slight larger than a Taco Bell 5 layer burrito; so on the small side for authentic burritos. The carnitas torta was on a skinny roll that resembles a baguette and not the traditional telera bread. It too, could use better flavors. Overall, it gets the job done but don't expect it to taste as good as others in the area. Money could be spent elsewhere in my opinion.

Yelp
This taco vendor on Alberta is a-maze-ing! Friendly service. The quesabirria tacos were fresh, super flavorful, and topped with pickled onions to take a bit of the sting out of the spicy ( not too spicy) tacos. I usually prefer ground beef tacos to shredded beef tacos, but now.... I'm a shredded beef guy. Also, we requested a side of refried beans: perfect. We are going back for dinner tonight! Unassuming taco cart blew us away.

Yelp
Yummy yummy Mexican food I'm from so moving out here to WA it was very hard to find a really yummy Mexican spot and I'm 100% sure I finally found it. Yummy tender meat great homemade tortillas and yummy Carne Friess !!! 100% a loyal customer love love love. Even more better the people here are really nice !

Cristina G.

Yelp
As a Californian who grew up eating Mexican food, scratch made Mexican food, this is as close as you can get to the Abuelas who live on the corner. Their carnitas are tender and flavorful and their tortillas are the stuff of dreams. Their portions are significant and affordable. Their protein options are diverse - classics as well as standards (more than just beef, chicken or pork). We ordered for delivery so stuck to all flour tortillas this time, except for the asada fries (SO GOOD!). Everything was hot, individually labeled, exceptionally flavorful. I would have posted pictures, but we all ate so fast!

Yelp
Just thought that I would update this review with a new item (for me) that I tried. TACOS GOVERNADOR (governor tacos) the hight light of this awesome taco is what it seems to be skirt steak and shrimp with a its signature sauce. They are kinda expensive and a bit smaller than the regular tacos (wish that the owners would've keep the same size) but the flavor it is worth trying. Very much RECOMMEND IT!!!! (Forgot to post a pic, lol)

Candi T.

Yelp
Stopped in for the 1st time, and the fish tacos were awesome. I'm definitely coming back. Service was also great, very friendly staff.

Valerie A.

Yelp
The meat in my asada tacos was perfectly cooked and quality beef. I also had the sopes plate without meat, they do offer a vegetarian version with grilled veggies but I went super basic. The sopes were very well cooked, hand shaped, crispy and raised edges, the center was not too thick, the beans were flavorful. On the sopes as I did order a plate which came with beans and rice, but to my disappointment beans and rice were nearly cold which was very concerning for health reasons so I did not continue eating those. There is a variety of salsas, I preferred the molcajete verde was my favorite sauce. Certainly an improvement over Don Pedro's, tortillas are hand made made and orders were up very quick. I wish the sopes had an extra kick of flavor like queso fresco or cotija.

Yelp
One of the best Mexican spots in the Portland area hands down. Hand made tortillas. The carne asada is sliced super thin then cut up and cooked. It was delicious. Light and juicy. The fish tacos were amazing. Nice crunch on the outside and light and fluffy on this inside. One of my favorites was the torta. The bread was toasted on the griddle and it was crunchy when you bit into it but soft on the inside. The bread also absorbs a little of the oil from the griddle that just add so much delicious to each bit. I will definitely be back very soon.

Ka'ala L.

Yelp
From the outside it might not look like much, but don't let the exterior fool you. The place inside was clean and nicely decorated. The staff was friendly and the food was good. They don't have a drive thru open so you must go inside. You cam get to go orders or dine in. I highly recommend the the steak and shrimp tacos. Number 3. They are packed with meat and the chipotle sauce in it is delicious. Also, try the number 4 - the fish tacos, the fish was nicely fried in a light crispy batter, not too greasy and it came with a good crunchy fresh cabbage slaw and sauce. I am craving more right now.

Gissele U.

Yelp
We love going here! I'm so glad I found this place. Food is super good! Los tacos de cabeza, la quesadilla Juana, y el vampiro de asada sooo good! I Recommend this place!

Gustavo R.

Yelp
Ricos los tacos y el servicio rápido y amable se los recomiendo los tacos de cabeza y los de al pastor son mis favoritos

H J.

Yelp
Delicious veggie quesadilla - flavor is perfect. Vampiros with chicken were delicious - crunchy outside and tasty inside.

Alejandro M.

Yelp
As someone who spend his childhood in Tijuana and used to live within distance to the border before moving here, I felt really deceived after coming here. First the food was a little bland. Second the Al Pastor is not authentic. Their social media marketed that they made it on a trompo, the authentic way of making it. This was false. The marinade and flavor was also not comparable. If you're looking specifically for good Al Pastor I'd say skip and try somewhere else. But if your looking for "Mexican food" that is a white person's authentic version you'll probably enjoy it.

Priscilla S.

Yelp
Ordered this on Door Dash. It came in good time so I feel like I got a good idea of theor food fresh. I was a bit thrown off my the carne asada. Didn't taste very good and gave me "ground beef" vibes. The carnita tacos were HUGE and very juicy. They'd be my favorite part of the whole meal. I probably wouldn't order again but it's definitely better than a lot of Hispanic food in town.

Brandon C.

Yelp
Love the food here big selection, good service. I always use delivery service to order here and the food is always good.

paul s.

Yelp
Came here for the first time today. Decided to try the taco burger and the steak burrito. The taco burger was good sized and delicious, full of everything on a burger but like taco filled. The steak burrito was great, the best part was is was 80% steak and little on the beans and rice. Very good.

Robin C.

Yelp
their food is delicious and the people that work there are real nice. I recommend eating there.

Yvette G.

Yelp
This place was very bland the food looked like it was going to be delicious so I was really disappointed when I took the first bite and it tasted like nothing it had no flavor and the meat on the fries was so thin and had no taste they drench it in nacho cheese so that's the only thing you could recognize overall just really disappointing there's like 3 other Mexican restaurants nearby that are much more worth it!

Leslie C.

Yelp
great service and great tacos! so happy to have found a place that hits a little bit closer to home. The consome was amazing and this will definitely be my go to spot from now on. Looking forward to coming back :)

Bek K.

Yelp
Ok... I just have to say these are the BEST tasting tacos I've ever tasted...technically called quesobirria. Great service! I'll be back many many times since my parents just moved to the area.

Ana H.

Yelp
We have been here a couple of times and every time customer service has been great. I have ordered different entrees on the menu and they have been so delicious every time. This is a bit of a hidden place but the dining area has been clean every time we have visited.

Hailey C.

Yelp
Having sought carnitas tacos out all over the city of portland (among other cities), i can without a doubt say this place has the best carnitas around! Its very moist and the tortillas are handmade and not the least bit dry or weak. Truly legendary! The birria was a bit spicy (coming from someone who can't handle any spiciness) but very delicious! Fair prices and very great service as well! 10/10 recommend

Saul J.

Yelp
Second time there because food was really good .. but secon time they refuse to serve because my son was carrying he's small dog so they tell me to go on the patio out side [no way is freezing out there] ... food is good but just want to advise others no to bring any pet with you...

De'Andre F.

Yelp
Definitely a must for anyone that loves Mexican food and lives in Southeast/Gresham area. My go to at La Tia Juana are the fish tacos.

Rodolfo G.

Yelp
As a Mexican this is probably the worst bland tasting food I've had only went there cause of the reviews because the taco truck near by only took cash would never recommend. Service was good and the ambiance was okay

Magda S.

Yelp
I love cabeza tacos !!! They are the closest to Mexico Barbacoa taste I have tried in USA, every time I try them makes me feel I am eating my family's barbacoa recipe

Bri L.

Yelp
Good food. Good service. Great price! The portion sizes were really good. I had leftovers.

Peg C.

Yelp
Best fish tacos we've had since moving to Portland from LA 12 years ago. Carne asada taco was good too. Everything looked good, but it will be hard to want to order anything, but the fish tacos next time we go.

Moe W.

Yelp
We tried this place for the 1st time today for lunch.I saw the good reviews on Yelp, thought we would give it a try.I can see why they gave it some good reviews,it was excellent,I had the tacos Birria meat was very tender ,my wife had the Asada plate meat was grilled perfectly ,and a nice char flavor to it it was excellent we will be back now that I know about the place, wasn't the cheapest place in town but the quality of the food was certainly worth it.

Mia M.

Yelp
Im in love with all of the food i try from here they always get my order right and in a good speed its worth it to go and i do recomend

Laura A.

Yelp
Firstly inside. Tacos were bland, tortillas were homemade but pre-made which made them cold and hard.

Adrienne M.

Yelp
Super New! Has great potential. Ordered tacos to go! They were good but they forgot my salsa. Oh lord knows it makes the taco. (not always) In this case it would of. They came with onions, gauc, and cilantro. Interesting.... I modified mine of course I asked for no onions no guacamole and a side of green or verde salsa. The young man that took my order was really nice. So my tacos weren't the best since I didn't have all MY key ingredients but they weren't bad either. I'll have to go back to see if that verde would have pulled it all together for me. I believe it would of!

Nat G.

Yelp
This place is amazing. There has not been an item that I tried and didn't like. Their vapor, birria, fish tacos are all delicious. Their loaded fries and carne asada sooo mouth watering! My only ask would be to have more convince way for customers to be able to get sharing plates and sauces.

Ian B.

Yelp
Great value, cooked fresh to order tacos made my day after an annoying afternoon. At $3 per taco they are totally worth it and will fill you up. Meat was seasoned nicely, sauces were varied and all tasty with different spice levels, and the guacamole was fresh and flavorful. If I need a quick lunch in Gresham, La Tia Juana Taqueria will be on my short list.

Gabs R.

Yelp
I really love the food here, but I wish the cashier was nicer. I don't know if she's the manager, she's dating the boss but she's sometimes very rude and short with customers. The boss Chris is such a cool dude, I went to school with him and he's always been super chill. He knows how to run his business but needs to have his employees in check! Like yeah that's your girlfriend but she should be nice to your customers so we can keep coming back.

Lizeth C.

Yelp
Food was amazing! Was skeptical at first but once I tried the food I was in love! Definitely going back!

J P.

Yelp
Ordered two things on the menu that they apparently don't have anymore but are still up on the menu, first time here kinda ironic.

Ashley L.

Yelp
On the hunt for some birria tacos, we decided to try this place out. At first glance pulling, we were a bit nervous but by the time we tried the food we will definitely be coming back for more. The quesabirria tacos were so flavorful and we asked for a side of the Mexican beef stew broth for dipping - which seems to be trending at the moment. We also opted to give the carne asada taco a try. Our only disappointment was that the food was so satisfying we wanted more but easily filled up after 2 tacos.

Nancy T.

Yelp
Mediocre. Any restaurant that uses "liquid" cheese loses points with me. Service was good and the person at the counter very nice. Ambiance very simple but clean.

Tina R.

Yelp
You get so much more than you think you are getting. The #6 Qusadilla la Tia honestly made my soul leave my body. So good.

Alex B.

Yelp
Update : Costumer service could be better, second time they got my order wrong and the cashier could be more nice, the place wasn't even full and they messed up again after I asked for something in special, your costumer service should be equal or better than your food. What a great place, I found this while looking for some Mexican food, usually I can anything but not my daughter, so anyways, I decided to give a try since everything looks good on the pics and I'm glad that I did, I ordered tacos gobernador for me and asada fries for my daughter, she immediately was impressed by the taste of the cheese, she expected the same cheap cheese than any other place, the meat is better quality as well , same with my tacos, everything was delicious and for sure we will make this one of our favorites places, btw, portions are big and well served. Only con, their online menu is pretty short.

Em J.

Yelp
Homemade tortillas were great. I liked the carnitas one better, the meat had good flavor. Didn't like the asada one as much. Rice was just ok.

Eduardo T.

Yelp
Favorite spot in around. HANDMADE tortillas everytime. That's all I need to say. They have killer fish tacos, lengua and Al Pastor.

Kyle G.

Yelp
Insanely good, had special quesadilla, al pastor, fish, and gobernador tacos. So good. Their homemade tortilla is like a little thick and super flavorful. The quesadilla was just so good and huge. Tacos were very good too. The place is doing it right, salsas could be a little more flavorful, they're basically just pure heat levels to add to your food. The food is so good it doesn't even need salsa though.

Richard C.

Yelp
Some of the best authentic Mexican food! Street tacos and fish tacos for lunch. All were very good and above expectations!

Heidy C.

Yelp
Delicious. Options for kids as well. Outdoor seating. Quesabirria came with cosome as well.

Chadwick D.

Yelp
The Quesobirrria is on point. I'm from El Paso/Juarez area and I'm used to Chihuahua style food. This is different but a pleasant surprise. Everyone is really nice too. Hidden gem. Even the kitchen staff is nice. Highly recommended.
