La Trompette

"This popular neighbourhood spot has a warm, relaxed atmosphere courtesy of its band of local regulars, and it's easy to see why they're so loyal. The cooking is balanced and appealing and, while the influences are varied, its heart is French with occasional nods to the Mediterranean. Dishes are free of unnecessary adornment, so the focus remains on the top quality ingredients. The wine list is well-chosen and the service free of undue pomp." - Michelin Inspector

Food was nice. Service was basic; serving each course without much description, but the menu had captured the key ingredients (I usually took pictures of the menu so that I could refer back to). I was expecting something more exciting from a Michellin star restaurant at this price tag for 3 courses. Rather low value for money in a very competitive F&B scene in London in general. Dessert was too sweet and tasted artificial for my liking.

Google
the experience was great overall, it is located in a very quiet neighbourhood in west London. When we were there, the majority of the customers inside were people who were above 50 yrs old. But the food was good. Standard high end restaurant quality.

Fantastic one star neighbourhood gem, not the most obvious location but easy to get to from central London, both indoor and outdoor seating. Seasonal dishes, great wine selection and fab staff.

Travelling Doc

Google
A Michelin-starred gem tucked away on a quiet side street near Turnham Green station, offers a refined dining experience with a few highs and lows. The restaurant’s decor balances elegance and warmth, with grey paneling, sand-colored wallpaper, and striking abstract artwork. A welcome desk at the entrance features a Graham wine display with bronze bowls, setting a sophisticated tone. White tablecloths with a brown, sack-like design add a rustic touch, though the wooden-backed chairs are not the most comfortable. The space is well-structured, with a substantial number of tables for two, mirrors enhancing the sense of space, and a bar at the far end. Some outdoor seating is available for those who prefer al fresco dining. The meal started well with excellent bread and butter, but the Negroni was disappointingly average. Ordered from the set lunch with only two poor ions per course and there was also the option of the lunch menu with a half dozen option per course. The artichoke soup with chorizo was a pleasant surprise—despite initial concerns that the chorizo might overpower the dish, it added both depth of flavor and visual appeal. For mains, the fish with laksa sauce was enjoyable but not remarkable. The fish itself was well-executed, crispy on the outside, but the laksa sauce was unmemorable. The pork cheeks, however, were outstanding—fall-apart tender, with a rich and flavorful sauce. Desserts were a mixed bag. The blood orange sorbet was underwhelming, tasting like a generic citrus blend, but the lychee sorbet was much better. The standout was the chocolate and peanut delice slice—a beautifully layered dessert with a crunchy peanut base and a delicate milk ice cream that complemented it subtly. The petit four caramel was another highlight. Service was attentive throughout, and the ambiance was pleasant, though it became notably busier around 1:30 PM. Overall, La Trompette delivers a solid Michelin-starred experience, though some dishes outshine others. Would return, but with slightly adjusted expectations.the set lunch is excellent value for money.

Fabulous dishes .. very tasty. Worth going out of your way to go to La Trompette. Great atmosphere, quite relaxed and the food is exquisite!

Google
Excellent food. Particularly loved the Rhubarb dessert. Service could’ve been a bit more attentive (i.e. cleaning table after each course). Atmosphere of restaurant a bit dry for my liking but would still come again cause of the excellent food.

Always do great food, I love coming here. The white peach Bellini is a great start before your meal.

Had a fantastic meal at La Trompette in Chiswick. The food was beautifully cooked and full of flavour, with a great mix of British and French styles. The service was friendly and professional, and the wine list was impressive. It’s a lovely place for a special occasion or a relaxed lunch. A bit pricey for dinner, but definitely worth it for the quality. Highly recommend!

Yelp
Great food, great drinks, great service. Delightful neighborhood feel for such high end food

Yelp
La Trompette is a winner. The exterior & interior design and dining room visuals are very attractive, & immediately give you a sense upon arrival that you are in for some great eating. That sense is not wrong: you are. The menus (one a tasting menu, the other a la carte), are very inventive and rapidly cause glands to salivate. Clever mix of ingredients & cooking forms, and plenty of delicious options to choose from. The wine menu was robust, well-balanced for palates & dishes ordered, and had a comprehensive list of reasonably priced bottles. (We had the Gigondas: absolutely lovely) The dishes were amazing! Linguine w/ black truffles (divine), seared sea bass (more divine), braised short ribs (diviner (?) ), etc.. The cheese cart was sublime, with an excellent selection. The banana souffle tasted as magnificent as it looked. The service at La Trompette is exemplary. We were waited on impeccably, and just enough. If i had to suggest any improvements, it would be 1) serve crustier bread, and more than one option ( the bread served was fine, but the center was spongy), and 2) the toasts for the cheese crumbled into small pieces instantly (fortunately, I like getting my hands dirty with cheese..) I highly recommend La Trompette. Go. Often.

Yelp
This is the best restaurant in Chiswick, in my opinion. It has a Michelin star and boy, can you tell this by the quality of the food. But it doesn't feel snobby, even though it deserves to be because of the food's quality. When you dine here, you feel like you're eating at a family home. Except they can cook way better than my family ever could! The waiting staff know everything about the food and seem really proud to be working there. Everyone was so friendly and welcoming. My guy and I have been there twice now on set meal deals. It's great value at lunchtime with two course and three course deals. There are things sent compliments of the chef to cleanse the palate and different choices of bread with warmed butter and salted butter (very fancy). Both times, the bill came to approx £80- £100 inc wine and service, which is good for three course of Michelin fare. I would keep coming back to this place...and I will. Some places you try once and never go back, but I am getting addicted to la trompette. You could easily pay £40 a head at a chain west end steak restaurant, whereas this is unique. I had mackerel to start, followed by deer ragout (I did feel bad for eating Bambi, but my curiosity it's got the better of me). The deer was incredible - so rich and flavoursome. A banana soufflé dessert was so light with just the right amount of sweetness. The bill came with two chocolate truffles each and a macaron, which was the icing on the cake. Any place that gives free chocs gets five stars from me.

Yelp
Such unassuming façade, yet such modern and spacious restaurant interior! The wait staff was friendly and attentive. We ordered the tasting menu, which did not disappoint at all. It appeared the tasting menu was put together with seasonal ingredients, so it might change on a regular basis? The dishes were extremely thought through and refined, with exquisite nuances of ingredients and flavors in each dish. Each course came in a timely manner. There is a full bar and a long solid wine list. Slightly off the beaten path and worth the visit!

Yelp
This is the easiest review I will write. Michelin starred and well worth it, this is the best restaurant in Chiswick if not West London. Now much more than a local gem this will bring in diners from far and wide. Happily appearances can be deceptive as the restaurant is quite un-assuming and even dull to look at from the outside. However step in and you will experience a wonderful meal coupled with excellent service. A very French feel to it (as you would imagine bearing in mind the name) they also do a fixed priced menu from £37-50 although expect the wine from the extensive selection to be expensive. To conclude - One of thebest best with a big wow factor - be careful and it doesn't need to be mega expensive and the ideal place for a special evening / meal. Expect to book well in advance.

Yelp
Very good restaurant featuring unusual French specialities focusing on meats. Good single malt selection (try the rare Adelphia). Excellent cheese board. Attentive, knowledgeable staff, comfortable surroundings. Quite expensive, but if you are in London, you're used to it.

Yelp
It was our monthly date, my husband and I go on a date once a month, this French treasure was our destination for this month. We couldn't go at night but the atmosphere still seemed as romantic (maybe because it is winter and outside it is always dark!). We were warmly greeted and shown to our table, as we had heard it was better to reserve in advance. A very stylish feel to the restaurant and very intimate. We came wanting to eat really nice food and not wanting to spend way too much. t was just what we got. We had the three course set menu for £37.50. Wide selection of appetizers, mains and dessert, but definitely the best was the roast pork with vacherin (my favourite french cheese) stuffed potatoes. It was also accompanied by black pudding which I don't like so I got it substituted by more veggies. They have 25 pages of wines to choose from everywhere in the world and regions, Italy, France, Spain, Portugal, Luxembourg, Chile, California, Washington, Lebanon, and many more! An exceptional afternoon, next time I would like to pay the extra fiver for their cheese board which looked amazing, I had a peek at our neighbours's board.

Yelp
Situated just off Chiswick High Road, 5 minutes' walk from Turnham Green station, La Trompette has long been mentioned as Chiswick's best restaurant, and it seems that word's got around as the place was completely full on a cold and wet Tuesday evening, so, before reading any further, it seems necessary to book unless you want to chance it. The restaurant itself has a relaxed feel and atmosphere, with a mixture of clientele ranging from casual diners to people talking business on their expense accounts. Something I always look out for in a restuarant is an up-to-date menu (avoid laminated ones at all costs) - it seems the menu here changes slightly every day and the one given to me had today's date on it - surely a good sign :) Food itself was very very good - I've uploaded three furtive photos of the meal I had, plus one of the menu so you can get a good idea of the range of food they have. All excellently presented, we both agreed that our main courses were the best, both the lamb and the beef being cooked perfectly. The wine list is extensive, with the Sommelier bursting at the seams to give you his knowledge about the fruitiness or spiciness of your particular choice! Wine is decanted into a erm decanter at your table. I wouldn't quite put this in the Michelin star league (I think it had one last year, but don't think it's got one this year - although I'm quite prepared to be corrected about this) but it's very good, both from quality of food and service points of view, with little to grumble about. One further point - I was told that it was hugely expensive by friends, although in actual fact, it was a 3-course menu for £35, which I think, for its quality, is very good value. I don't think you'd come out of here £500 lighter (as the rumours go), unless you get the bottle of 1990s Bordeaux for a few pounds shy of half a grand! Like I've said before, a sign of a good restaurant is whether you'd go back, which I would, and judging by how busy it was, others do too.

Yelp
Chiswick's premiere restaurant and one of the best regarded restaurants in the capital. It was a surprise when LT opened because before then Chiswick had nothing to compare with the top restaurants towards the centre of town. Centred around SW France charcuteries, foie gras and confits, sometimes the menu can be "too meaty". But there's always a choice, even for vegetarians. Recommended are roast rib of beef, red mullet with ratatouille and ravioli of rabbit with spring greens. Wine list is well appointed, with 600 bins mainly from Burgundy overseen by an award winning sommelier. Expensive and one for the business account, birthdays or anniversaries.

Yelp
One of the best meals I've ever had. I went for lunch and opted for the three course meal (as opposed to the six course tasting menu) which was actually quite good value. I started with the watercress and ramson velouté which was nice served (there was a poached quail's egg in the bowl and they poured the soup on top at the table). It was served with lovely little buttermilk crumpets (only two; I would have liked one or two more). Next I went for the monkfish tail which was great, and the sauce it came with was divine. And for dessert I opted for the gariguette strawberries with buttermilk mousse and beignets. Also wonderful. I had never had buttermill mousse before and it was great.

Yelp
How do I know it's autumn? The golden leaves? The misty mornings? QPR's steady decline down the league after a 'promising' start. No. I definitely know it's autumn because I just ate it. And it was truly delicious. Starter of crispy mackerel. Just how I like it. Properly burnished salty skin. But bathed in the most delicate foam with plump mussels and mushrooms. Followed with guinea fowl, turnips, onions and some more mushroom. Done to perfection and presented with all the colours, smells and flavours of what has now officially become my favourite season. Finished with caramelised pear tart. Just like a perfect tart tartin but with dusky pears instead. I can taste and smell the whole thing now. And the other 'alf had a meal of similar heady quality. Cured beef salad, followed by onion tart, finished with a warm chocolate thingy. Again, the whole thing was delightfully autumnul. This West London stalwart continues to crank out brilliant michelin starred food with a heavy french accent. Thoroughly seasonal obviously, carefully presented by very proper staff. If I have any gripe at all it's the correctness of everything. Very French that. They don't take too many risks at the Trompette with the layout and feel of the place. The service, though charming, is minimally short of formal which is a shame. The decor is beige in the extreme. They recently had a major refit and extended into the next shop but what we're left with doesn't feel much different or shuzzeed up from the former. The art on the wall is boring. It's not a place to come and be bowled over with the atmosphere. It's choc full of the moneyed French and English of the area and the vibe is a little restrained. but it's certainly comfy and I wouldn't call it disappointing in any way. Just, if you're after a rave up, look elsewhere. The only other gripe is that you have no choice of the number of courses you can have. It's three. It's £50. And that's all there is to it. A real shame because I felt like I was a french goose forcing the pudding down simply because I had paid for it, delicious as it was. The portions are generous and three courses is a fair amount of food. If I had an option for two courses at between £35 and £40 I'd go back far more regularly. Still, none of this is enough to take away a star from the consistently brilliant Trompette. Quality nosh in the suburbs and no sign of slowing down.

Yelp
Located just off King Street in Chiswick, La Trompette is one of the stable of restaurants that also include Chez Bruce in Wandsworth and The Glasshouse in Kew. They all hold a Michelin star each and you can be assured of a similar experience and standard at all 3 establishments. I notice that dishes do 'travel' from one of these restaurants to another but in general, I think I like La Trompette the best out of the 3 places. It just seems to have the ingredients I like best more of the time - foie gras and duck, for example. The restaurant has the sense of calm and cosseting with its smooth service. The food is good quality French brasserie in origin and style and it's executed well. A good example would be a favourite dish from one of my recent visits - duck magret, crisp pastilla of confit leg and foie gras, glazed endive, spiced duck jus. The duck was prepared in different ways, all delicious and allowing the primary ingredient of duck to take centre stage but the delicate spicing of the jus was necessary to counterbalance the richness of the duck and the foie gras. I would like to trumpet La Trompette for special occasion dining.

Yelp
Don't get me wrong-- the food was good, the service was annoyingly attentive, there were enough people with their noses in the air around us to make it feel special-- but was it worth the price? The simple answer is: Not with Cote just around the corner serving up equally good food, in a less pretentious environment for something like 2/3 the price.

Yelp
Wonderful. Tried the scallops (surprisingly and delightfully cold), pigeon lovely and well cooked, I had the mille feuilles for dessert but my kids had the banana soufflé which was like eating a cloud out of heaven

Yelp
La Trompette is one of those annoying restaurants that everyone hails as 'the best restaurant ever blah blah blah' and then...when you go there....you find not only were they right but it exceeds all expectations....and 'they' were all right....so it's always packed but well worth booking up in advance. One of things everyone goes on about is the amazing value of the lunchtime menu....blah blah blah. £25 for three courses blah blah blah......and it's all true....it's the best deal in town by a mile and you're not made to feel like cheapskate or that you are some how 'missing out' on the real deal. The food is exceptional, the presentation pretty damn near perfect and the service friendly and warm but with just the right amount of attention to detail and without being overly familiar...you feel like it's a special occasion just by being in the room. It feels like a 'restaurant' rather than a Brasserie and all the better for it....if you live in Chiswick as I do consider yourself blessed to have this on our doorstep....xx

Yelp
Long lost twin of chez bruce, situated just off the Chiswick high road, and interestingly directly under a friend's flat! Actually not long lost twin at all, they are run by the same team, and this is equally as good as its Wandsworth pal. With huge glass windows leading into an open plan bright clean and spacious dining area, you are immediately in a welcoming environment, and this just gets better and better. With very similar food to chez bruce, focusing on top quality ingredients cooked to perfection, and offering food you just won't get elsewhere, there is no reason not to choose this place above any other. Also, wonderful service and fantastic wine list. Wow.

Yelp
Excellent restaurant (and now with Michelin star I believe). Offers a good value £25 three course lunch option for those that want to sample without the expensive of a full dinner. As you would imagine for a good French restaurant the wine list is very comprehensive with some very good bottles on. Overall, one of the places to eat in Chiswick.
google avatar

Qype User (DFFlan…)

Yelp
So (as of Summer 2010) this place has a Michelin star and is in the french tradition, so of course you are going to get a beautiful meal that is executed flawlessly with excellent french matierdee, somlier and waiter to boot. Value is fair enough given the star. But as far as 5 star exceptional, this french bistro in chiswick (a town full of bistros) is not distinguished by its experience, but only by its star. So a star is of course enough to bring in clinetele: plenty of dates w men trying to impress expensive women. Yet, I would still like something that makes me think this place should deserve a second star, something more than a over stuffed wine menu, something that excites my senses as much as my pallete?

Qype User (lexy44…)

Yelp
Have eaten here 4 or 5 times and it is wonderful. Usually on business accounts when I haven't had to worry about the prices, but also they do a great value fixed price lunch which is excellent. The service is spot on. The restuarant is usually full of people having business lunches and the place feels formal at lunchtime. It would also be suitable for special occassions / anniversary dinner etc Have never had a dish I didn't like here, everything is cooked beautifully as you would expect from one of London's top rated restaurants. It's on Devonshire Rd (just off Chiswick High St) where there is very limited parking, nearest tube is Turnham Green.

Yelp
Honestly, I could not believe how much I loved this restaurant. The staff's movements were balletic - beautiful to watch. The atmosphere was elegant but welcoming. The service was superb. It was probably the first time in my entire life of dining that I didn't have to think about catching a server's eye - everything was there, everything was done, everything was arranged. It was so relaxing! And the food... simply stunning. My husband's quail with black pudding (not something I would normally like) was probably the best thing I ever tasted in my life. My Wild Ransom Veloute with crispy egg was an incredible starter. I could've had a second one as my main! But I didn't (don't be silly!), I instead had a beautiful wild brill cooked to perfection. My dessert of garrigue strawberries with lemon verbena cream and merengue was so light and refreshing. Finally, I must compliment the sommelier - he gave me a fantastic lesson in French Burgundian white wine and I am much more knowledgeable now. I loved the entire experience and will definitely return.

Yelp
Best French food I have had - yes not in France! I loved the cheese board, guinea fowl, blueberry souffle and presentation of all dishes. Wine was exquisite and service high quality as you would expect. Great for romantic dinner special occasion or a very nice treat!

Yelp
The perfect neighbourhood place to grab a swanky dinner. Been here a handful of times and it's never disappointed. Great french style grub and an absolutely magic cheeseboard. If you're splashing out in Chiswick this is your first and last stop.

Yelp
Excellent French modern restaurant, welcoming atmosphere, dishes supremely prepared and presented in very original and accurate fashion. We had the 3 course meal with a French Riesling white wine. All really satisfying. A bit pricey...but you would expect it from the kind of restaurant. Definitely worth going for a fine dinner out.

Yelp
Really a very good restaurant. The prix fixe menu is outstanding value for money but otherwise venture to the full menu and go wild. Always good, trained, informed staff. All in all a great place. If you like this it's worth a trip south to Chez Bruce.

Yelp
My favourite restaurant in Chiswick. It manages a consistently high level of service and food quality. I particularly like their bread and uber-chocolatey petit fours. Plus they always have a tasty vegetarian option. They have a well-deserved Michelin star which has probably contributed to the sense that it is busier now than pre-star. I like going for lunch where you can get an excellent meal for a reasonable price - it's ideal for business lunches and treats with friends or family.

Yelp
It took me a while to get around to eating at this French brasserie, but I am glad I did. The fixed price lunch menu is very good value, the decor airy and fresh, and the service attentive. Next stop, the Glasshouse and Chez Bruce, its equally lauded sister restaurants in Kew and Wandsworth.

Yelp
Suckling pig was extraordinary. Great service, and although deserts were a bit of a let down the rest of the meal was well worth the money.

Yelp
Totally delicious. I had the Chef's special, followed the servers idea , and wrapped up off together with a nice ice cream dish . Classic food, supplied in an unpretentious dining-room without a whole lot of fuss. The dish definitely speaks by itself, and though non-meat eaters could very well identify their choice quite limited, it's a carnivore's heaven. Quite a lot of business-types here on a week day the afternoon meal, but the surroundings was still being fairly casual. System was friendly, attentive and thought to be without having to be pushy or stuffy. Will truly get back on try a number of the significantly more adventurous bowls

Yelp
is there a better prix fixe lunch deal in the country or the world? if only they had a place in north london id be there every day. what i cant understand about this place is how they manage to keep their prices so low when everyone in their quality bracket is so expensive. the use of rich french ingredients is done in a way that leaves you wanting more trather than stuffed before youve reached your main course.

Yelp
Wonderful place for a special occasion. Food is devine though and you get what you pay for. Service was immpecable.

Yelp
I hadn't been to La Trompette since it opened, and it's recently been refurbished making it much larger. We went for our wedding anniversary and they looked after us very well, as I had put it in the notes when we booked. We had complementary glasses of champagne s soon as we sat down. There was a lovely amuse-bouche of airy seaweed crackers, and the most remarkable subtle taramasalata I have ever had. We then were offered a pre-starter of tuna tartare with bonito cream, which was clever and complex. Both of us ordered lobster with coco beans (£7.00 pp supplement), which was a very modern take on a thermidor sauce. For the main course I had succulent lamb with chick peas and pardon peppers, and my husband had Black Leg chicken, which he did find a little gamey. I finished with the 'outrageous' elderflower soufflé with gooseberry ice cream, while my husband opted for the safety of the cheese board. As usual. We finished with the most amazing dark chocolate truffles with salted honeycomb. The only downside, it that the food is unbelievably rich, and I did feel pretty stuffed by the end of it, but some people expect that with this sort of a meal.
