Chic lounge with creative cocktails, Scotch, and light bites

"Jake Soffes owns two other notable Denver watering holes — Cap Hill’s Hudson Hill and LoDo’s the Wild, both of which double as all-day coffee shops — but Lady Jane stands out for its postcard-perfect ambiance a la 1960s-era Palm Springs. The cocktails are equally striking, combining seasonal ingredients in intriguing ways: The tequila- and sake-based Knife Play, for instance, is flavored with sage, persimmon, and five spice, while the Leaf Peeper infuses bourbon with the flavors of pepita, plum, pasilla, oats, and cacao." - Ruth Tobias, Josie Sexton, Eater Staff

"At this Highland bar, the owners have curated a detailed Scotch program that focuses on terroir-driven whisky, emphasizing farm distilleries, family-run and independently-owned estates, and locally-driven producers. Highland Park 12 Year Old is just one of the many bottles on the list. Order a charcuterie plate and some olives to nibble on between cocktails. There are no reservations here, so get in early to snag one of the simple cafe tables, counter or bar seating, or a comfy chair reminiscent of a Los Angeles living room. The space has a natural flow and feels airy and bright, perfect for drinking something deep and dark." - Vox Creative

"Located in a new building but with an interior covered in palm fronds, cherry wood, and orb lights and serving up classic cocktails and “Pet Sounds,” this bar transport drinkers from Denver to the Palm Springs of the ‘60s. Lady Jane is Hudson Hill’s cool younger sister, and its coolest factor is an all-night happy hour for diners in the neighborhood waiting for dinner tables." - Eater Staff

"LoHi’s newest bar is an instant classic, with Mid-century modern decor and an all-night happy hour for diners waiting on nearby restaurant tables. Try the Haunted by Waters made with tequila, Strega, lime, and cinnamon." - Josie Sexton

"A new California-inspired lounge on 32nd Avenue by Hudson Hill owner Jake Soffes transforms a blank space in the Alexan LoHi into a Palm Springs–1960s–evoking spot named for his aunt Jane and the Rolling Stones song; palm fronds sprout between all-angular benches and tables, orb lights glow from the countertops and ceilings, and a record player will start late-summer nights playing 'Pet Sounds.' To manage the bar Soffes recruited Minetta Gould, formerly of the underground Saint Ellie on Platte Street, whose goal is to make cocktails 'plain and simple, nothing scary' in the vein of Curio and American Bonded. Cocktails include a whiskey sour made with a honey egg cream that uses leftover yolks from egg-white drinks, a 'pink gin' of ice-cold, undiluted Plymouth with Angostura bitters, and a summer rum swizzle mixing Brugal with Curaçao, preserved citrus, mint, and a float of Fernet Branca; $1 from every old fashioned sold will be donated to a local arts charity, and the bar incorporates collectible glassware designed by Denver-area artists. Happy hour runs all night to serve diners waiting for tables and industry workers, with drinks starting at $3, cocktails up to $13, and special pours reaching around $20; offerings emphasize ease and variety—from East Coast beers to big Cabs by the glass—and there's a small food menu with one prosciutto and one grilled cheese sandwich. Lady Jane is now open at 2021 West 32nd Avenue; hours are 4 p.m. to midnight Monday through Wednesday and until 1 a.m. Thursday through Saturday, and the bar closes Sundays." - Josie Sexton
