Smoked meats, creative cocktails, and a large outdoor fire pit

"One of Seattle’s best barbecue places is getting out of the barbecue game: later this month, West Seattle’s Lady Jaye is converting into a sandwich shop, leaving behind its entree-and-sides formats to focus on “over-the-top handhelds” like a wagyu smash burger, a meatball sub, and the “Hot Beef.” “We wanted to take everything we’ve learned in six years of running Lady Jaye and put it into something more fun, more approachable, and honestly, more Seattle,” co-owner Evan Carter said. “People know us for wagyu and for meat, but not everyone is able to afford a $50 filet mignon steak. Now, we’re putting the Lady Jaye stamp on sandwiches, the kind you crave, the kind you come back for.” In other words, they’re moving toward something more affordable, with the current version’s last day on Sunday, October 12, and the new “Lady Jaye 4.0” opening on October 22." - Harry Cheadle
"The Deal: $8 Seasonal Moscow Mules, $10 Boilermakers, $3 Sides, Special Menu Items Relaxing on Lady Jaye's back patio isn't a bad way to spend a late afternoon—particularly if you order cocktails and a whole bunch of smoked stuff from the Happy Hour-only list." - aimee rizzo, gabe guarente
"Lady Jaye is a comfortable restaurant and cocktail bar in West Seattle that works surprisingly well for pulling together a big family dinner. They don’t have a kids menu, but most of their fun BBQ dishes are great for the young Lego architects at the table. Things like pulled pork croquettes, cream puffs filled with pimento cheese, and a smoked bologna sandwich that’s so good that you might end up arm-wrestling your toddler for it. If all else fails, they have great mac and cheese, which is the universal food for whining children (and adults, to be honest)." - aimee rizzo
"This West Seattle smokehouse knows its way around wood like Steve Martin knows his way around a banjo. Their repertoire is intense—between homemade bologna, slabs of pork belly, and tofu “burnt ends”—and it’s all incredibly worthy of a trip across town or clearing your calendar with no regard to the people you’re letting down. Yes, these smoked meats are good enough to blow off helping that friend move. Best part is, there’s always a daily special to keep things interesting, like a Sunday-only smoked delmonico cheesesteak with tallow-grilled onions and whiz, or the Thursday-only smoked wagyu cheeseburger with smoky singed edges and a perfectly pink middle that has us seriously contemplating buying a Traeger." - aimee rizzo, kayla sager riley
"A distinctly 'dad-coded' spot with great meat, a whiskey-focused cocktail menu, Floyd on the patio speakers, and incredible ribs. The ribs—sometimes offered as a special and not always available—were simultaneously smokey and crispy and so tender the meat was falling off the bone; the reviewer describes 'gnawing this sweet, succulent meat' between bouts of trying to keep a one-year-old from injuring himself (maybe takeout next year)." - Harry Cheadle
