"Chef John Tesar will open Outer Reef, his long-discussed seafood restaurant. The place is meant to act as an homage to Tesar’s former Spoon Bar & Kitchen, featuring a variety of seafood dishes including razor clam tartare, geoduck sashimi, and dry-aged tuna. The restaurant will also offer shareable spot prawn ramen, roasted half lobster, kimchi-glazed halibut, and black cod milanese. Chef Jayro Martinez will be the chef de cuisine. The restaurant's opening has been delayed but is now set for April 29, as part of a larger renovation of the Dana Point hotel property." - Farley Elliott

"It’s no longer a rumor: Former Top Chef contestant John Tesar’s seafood restaurant Outer Reef is headed to Dana Point at the Laguna Cliffs Marriott Resort & Spa, with an opening slated for the end of 2018. Tesar is a four-time James Beard nominee, and appeared twice on Bravo’s culinary competition show. Tesar recently signed a lease for the space, and will source all seafood straight from the Pacific, which includes crudo, caviar, and fresh shellfish. Surf converges with turf as Tesar will bring some dishes from his Dallas steakhouse, Knife. Outer Reef is a tribute to Tesar’s Dallas restaurant Spoon Bar & Kitchen, which closed in early 2015." - Mona Holmes

Great place. Great location. Some great staff. Early morning October 20. Fantastic. One staff member should not be in service industry. His resentment and dislike was evident. Specifically on Saturday October 18 our group using 3 separate room reservations. Ages 4 to 78. One of our party arrived with both cane and walker. Bell man came out helped the valet get some things out and then returned to bell stand. The taller one with dark hair stood laughing with his younger blond trainee while the guest stood by his car , helpless to get his walker up the stairs. As an older guest myself I had been waiting. I saw the entire incident. I went to the bell desk. I said. Help is needed. He can’t get in. The older dark haired taller bellhop told me that I should have a better tone of voice. Only then did the two stop giggling and help one of the older members of our party finally be able to enter the property. There is a ramp far to the end of the entrance but no one from the bell desk showed the way to the ramp. I asked to speak to the bell manager but was not given the opportunity. I tip well. I also never leave bad reviews.

We visited the Laguna Hills Marriott while scouting it as a potential wedding venue, but unfortunately, the experience left much to be desired. The self-parking scanner was broken, which caused unnecessary hassle upon arrival. To make matters worse, the front desk staff seemed disinterested in helping us. Despite booking a room with a king bed, we were assigned a room with two queen beds, and I had to go back and request the correct room—something that should have been handled correctly the first time. The one bright spot in our visit was Carlos, our server during breakfast. He went above and beyond to make us feel welcome, taking the time to share details about the property and providing excellent service. His courteous and attentive approach truly stood out amidst an otherwise underwhelming stay. Overall, the property has potential, but the service—aside from Carlos—needs significant improvement. Unfortunately, this experience has made us reconsider the venue for our special day.

Very clean and comfortable with spectacular ocean views and a quiet luxury vibe. Walkable to Dana point harbor. We are repeat customers for a nice staycation. Visitors will love the location and views. Be sure to grab a drink at the top floor indoor/outdoor bar. Marriott Bonvoy members will get a complimentary drink. The finer dining restaurant is below. They have great desserts but I would suggest you go into the Harbor which is walking distance for your meal to get some local flavor. Suggestions are Turks, Harpoon Henry’s or the Brig.

This location has a great view of the harbor and ocean. Beautiful hotel with average rooms. The restaurant and bar area are well appointed and located with a nice view. The food and drinks were average, but expensive. Don’t fret as there are tons of great restaurants a short walk or Uber ride away. The outstanding service team make up for any shortcomings with the staff going above and beyond to make your stay wonderful.

Located on top of a hill overlooking the cliffs. Beautiful resort with plenty of outdoor and indoor space. Rooms are immaculate and views are splendid. We enjoyed our stay. Take a stroll in the morning, noon, evening or night - it is just as spectacular around the property. There are a couple of parks around the property and all within walking distance.

Hotel is very nice and spacious and the rooms were big and had a lot of nice amenities and great views. The staff seems very poorly trained as we asked for directions a few times to the fitness center, restaurant etc-all in the hotel and they didn’t know where they were or the staff spoke zero English so they could not communicate with us. The restaurant was good but way too high priced-which explains why we were the only diners on a Friday night at 7 pm.

My goodness did we have such a pleasant stay at Laguna Cliffs! For context, I came to stay here during evacuations from the LA Fires of January 2025 and the staff was extremely compassionate, accommodating, and pleasant to us all, including our large dog. We were here for 3 nights. The hotel offered a discount for our stay which was extremely kind for one less thing to worry about when trying to leave LA and book something so quickly. I experienced both a double standard room and a double junior suite and I will say, the double junior suite is spacious, bright, and airy! So, I would highly recommend that one if you're able to and need the space, it comes with a mini "living room" with the couch and rug space plus a small outdoor patio. A mini fridge too! The spaciousness helped since we were all trying to get settled and work remotely, while giving space to our large dog to spread out. The standard double room is still nice, just was a little bit too tight for our needs. It's your standard business hotel stay with two beds, a small table, desk, and bathroom. I also really loved that they offered the Kahuna (?) Kids Club especially during this time when parents are overwhelmed with figuring out how to keep their kids engaged and joyful while managing tough decisions. It was a ballroom dedicated to entertaining kids of various ages with crafts, games, and a large tv with comfy bubble chairs. I loved it as it gave me a quick break to get some work done while the kids were entertained. The resort is walking distance to two beautiful expansive parks, not to mention the beach. It offers plenty of walking trails for humans and dogs of varying inclines. There are accessible group fitness classes you can sign up for and the gym is also very nice and updated. Also love that they have 4 pickleball courts on site! Unfortunately, I cannot speak to the food on site but will say there are food options within a 10-15 walk, again, with varying inclines. Entire staff is super friendly and helpful with smiles! We would totally come stay again! Loved it so much. It's so beautiful and Dana Point is LOVELY.

Stayed here as part of a wedding party. The blocked of rooms offered were supposed to be a discounted rate but actually was cheaper to book directly without the blocked rooms discount which made no sense. Exact same rooms too. At around $400 a night, the room was small and hard to move around in a king bed room with a baby. The pool area had no available umbrellas even though the pool was at less than half capacity. A few times I asked if they could move the umbrella, but the wait was so long that I did it myself. Did self park also. Apart from that the property was clean and nice to look at.

Yelp
Pros: Large rooms Beautiful grounds Activities Pool Gym Cons: High parking ($60 per night) and resort fees Check in: Easy. You can download the app and check in via the app. You can also use a mobile key. The room: 105. Facing the resort with some view of the bay. It was spacious and clean. The beds were comfortable. The shower was amazing. The toiletries smelled so good. They do provide shampoo, conditioner, shower gel and lotion. The room also has a nespresso machine and a fridge. Bath robes are available for use in the closet. Amenities: They have two pools and they are heated. The gym is large. The machines are well maintained. There is a list of daily activities available. You can rent a bike for free. Yoga mats are also available. The restaurants have daily specials. I didn't try this, but they do have complimentary wine tasting or one free glass of wine. Tips: You can walk down to restaurants. The walk is about 10min. We tried harpoon Henry's. They had good seafood.

Yelp
Overall, a solid hotel. A couple of complaints and a couple of pros. Pros- - Very nice and clean room - Beautiful location - Very nice staff! Cons- - Restaurant is understaffed and takes a while to make the food - Extremely thin walls, you can hear everything - Too many secret upcharges. I would recommend this hotel, however, if you aren't prepared, it could be a bit of a hassle.

Yelp
Beautiful location, close to the marina and a few restaurants. The rooms are clean but housekeeping placed dirty towels in our room. Please check if the towels are stained before placing them in the rooms. The trash was not cleared either. The front desk was super helpful and replaced/corrected it right away. After each event, we were rushed out of the rooms and the vue lawn immediately as they closed out. Felt so awkward. The bar is very nice and has great views of the ocean and the sunset.

Stephanie B.

Yelp
We had a staycation and decided to stay here as its close proximity to restaurants and the view. Check in was quick, our room was nice and had a partial ocean view. The hotel does have a little older feel to it, but still a nice place to stay. Only issue we had is the battery on our door keycard reader died so we had to wait 20minutes in the hall for maintenance to come fix it so we could enter our room. You have the option to Valet or self park. The self park is in a parking garage that is right in front of the hotel so super short walk.

Yelp
Vibe: On the water/beautiful view from lobby, and it ends there. I have been to countless Marriott resorts over the last 10-15 years with our four children and this one misses the marks on many levels. The entire hotel is falling apart, paint missing from door jams, chunks out of the walls in hallways and rooms. We stayed here in 2012 and it looks like nothing has been done since. Pool Area/Food Ordering: Our first day we went to the pool, which is not a "Resort" style pool, a basic rectangle, nothing special and small for the amount of people there. The hot tub wasn't working, cold/warm-ish water both days we went to the pool. I felt like we were at a Courtyard or Residence Inn, nothing special, especially for the high prices we paid for two rooms our entire stay. Pool Food Ordering: Since they host events and conferences and weddings, I am not sure what happened. We ordered two kids meals that took over and hour to get, got no updates from our server, had to hunt someone down to find our food. The pool is service is extremely slow and almost non-existent. Quality: This is not even as clean as a Courtyard and so dated, this entire hotel needs a major update including the pool/hot tub area, they have a lot of grass area which is nice and games to play so our teens spent their time there and not in the pool, which is unusual for them when on vacation. The name "Resort" has certain meanings, which this hotel did not meet. Parking: What a joke, so freaking expensive to park here, we brought 3 cars, because we were going different places upon departure. I asked for a discount since we are Platinum and we were parking them ourselves and they refused. I asked if we can skip the 1k points upon check in and give us free parking for one vehicle instead, and they refused. We are Platinum Elite members Check-In: The Check In process was very long, we got a call from our credit card company because she charged us for three rooms. The older gal who checked us in, said she only had one ocean-view room left to upgrade us to, so we took it. Our kids were a level below us in a second room. When we walked in, I immediately started coughing because I have asthma and there was a terrible tobacco smoke smell in the room. We called her and she said she didn't have any more upgraded rooms to offer, but the resort didn't seem very crowded or offered us a two full-bed room, for my husband and I which we passed on which meant, we were on the opposite side of the hotel as are teen children, which was unfortunate. Nothing offered for the hassle of having to change rooms. Rooms: Found rodent droppings and piece of rodent in our older teens' room, and droppings in our room (paid for 2 rooms), brought this up when we checked out, the initial worker waved the "resort fee" which is a big joke, we had kids in the rooms with rodents/droppings we discovered the last day we checked out when we moved furniture in both rooms. After she basically offered us nothing, we told her we need to speak with a manager. He gave us his card, we have emailed him multiple times, and zero response from the manager or Marriott. We asked for our room fees to be reduced by 50% or waived given kids and rodents for four nights/five days. He said he would have to get approval from his boss, and we haven't heard from him since. We also found droppings in our room (second room), when checking out because we move furniture and bedding to make sure we don't leave anything behind. Service: We had a couple of friendly people there, especially that guy at the bar/coffee area in the morning, other than that the service fell quite short with the rooms being dirty/rodent/droppings, lack of immediate action with a major health code violation and lack of concern regarding the situation and the condition of the room. We were paying $1000/night for two rooms, and this is not like other resorts we have stayed at with a 5 start level experience like we have stayed at in Kauai/Koloa Landing, Ko'Olina Marriott Oahu, both are family resorts with top notch service and amenities. We will not be returning here. We came in 2012 and 2024, but this will be the last visit for us, and nothing about our stay here was relaxing with the issues we had start to finish.

Yelp
This property is gorgeous but the lack of AC in the lobby was torture for a sweaty girl like me. Lol. Other than that the room was clean, the lighting in the bathroom was exquisite and the staff was very helpful. Erin helped us check in and made sure to inform us of all the amenities and was so kind in answering our questions. Bianca was our server the first night and she did such and amazing job and helped make my friend feel so special for his birthday. The next night we went to the downstairs bar and Noah helped us and he is an absolute gem. Noah was the only employee that informed us of the automatic gratuity applied to every check (which I did see when reading the receipts, but I truly appreciated the fact that he was the ONLY one to mention it to us thought our entire stay). Thank you for your good energy and wonderful service, Noah. The world needs more people like you. Super side note, if you do eat on the property do not sleep on the bread rolls. They were the softest and most tasty little things, and with the butter.....I wish I asked to take some for the road they were so good that my friend swapped the bun for the rolls for his chicken sandwich and it was a decision he did not regret. Thank you laguna cliffs Marriott!

Yelp
We came here for somewhere local, beautiful, but not too pricey for our childless date night. The staff was so kind and truly went above and beyond when it came to their customer service. The food was impeccable and delicious. The grounds are absolutely beautiful and there are so many amazing amenities from free bike rentals, yoga, beautiful pools, as well as a large gym. The room was spacious and renovated very nicely. Room service arrives super quickly and everything is truly 10/10. This resort also provides you literal steps to the Dana Point Harbor and back!

Yelp
FOR THE SPA ONLY! Lydia was my esthetician for my facial and she was amazing! Friendly, accommodating, professional, knowledgeable. Hands down one of the best facials I have gotten. My skin is glowing. Highly recommend. Thank you Lydia!

Yelp
Great for a group retreat! My wife's employer held a retreat here. When you arrive, drive past the valet parking garage, and pull up in front. If you park on the hilly access road, then turn your steering wheel to turn your wheels, per California law.

Leila V.

Yelp
Our stay was amazing the hotel is stunning, service amazing and we had the nicest woman greet us her name was grace she was so kind and helpful.

Lynn B.

Yelp
Nice hotel on the cliff overlooking the water. Aldo, at the front desk, was gracious and extremely helpful. Ate a bite at the restaurant in the lobby. The poke as fabulous. Unfortunately, a different to-go order took so long that it had to be canceled.

Yelp
We went golfing at Monarch Beach Golf Links and decided to book a night during post Christmas week. It was a short 10 mins drive from Monarch Beach Golf. Resort location was very convenient, it is across from Dana Point Harbar & Marina and Doheny Beach. You will have to drive up a small hill from the main street and you will see the hotel entrance. There is a nice park right in front of the hotel with public access. Valet parking only for $46/night. It's a beautiful , comfortable, pricey hotel (+ resort fee, valet parking, & tax). We went during the holiday season so it was all decked out with decorations and a beautiful xmas tree. The staff and front desk were very welcoming, check-in process was very easy and we were given 1 alcoholic/ coffee/tea voucher (1 voucher per night of stay). We end up grabbing couple drinks at the lounge and the outdoor patio. It was a nice clear day/night so we decided to sit outside. It's a pretty big outdoor patio with heat lamps . The night view was gorgeous with ocean view and the sound of ocean waves. We came back to the lounge/deck for lunch the next day. You will not be disappointed, every single dish was so delicious. Their menu is hawaiian fusion type of food, I would order the whole menu if I have a bigger party. We ordered the Yakiniku Steak skewers, chimichurri chicken wings, Karaage chicken sliders w/ fries, Cliff Hanger cocktail, and house white wine. They were all flavorful and pretty good sized portion for the price. I would definitely come back to eat if I'm in the area. We had a corner room that has a couch area and a big dresser tv stand/desk. We also had a balcony that has a bit of ocean view and lounge chairs. The kind size bed was very very comfortable. The bathroom is beautiful but it doesn't really have a full shower door so we end up having a pool of water right outside the shower. It was so nice that it has 2 shower function (rainfall shower head + handheld). They have one of the best line of Hotel Toiletries brand LATHER (body wash, hand wash, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion). It smells amazing (fresh lemongrass). I was able to get a late check out as a Bonvoy Gold Member so we were able to use the hotel amenities and not be in a rush. (Late check out is based on hotel availability) The gym has alot of work out machines , weights, drinking water machine, treadmills w/ TV, elliptical machines w/ TV. If you need filtered drinking water, they are also in the hotel rooms hallway. We also took a dip in the hot tub and it was perfect for a winter day. We would definitely come back and stay here again.

James L.

Yelp
Did not feel like I was treated like a titanium elite. Did not receive my welcome gift & WiFi did not work for a little bit. Late check out is 1 PM and not 4 PM staff were mostly nice, room is clean, a bit dated. Parking is ridiculously expensive. $104 for the night is crazy !

Yelp
My wife and I got married here 10 years ago and we came back this weekend to celebrate our anniversary (and my birthday). The Director of Front Desk, Ellie, went out of her way to make our weekend so special! We just got surprised with chocolate covered strawberries and champagne. This place has always been awesome and even more so now after the remodel a couple years ago. Clean and awesome rooms, and some of the best views you can imagine. We had the breakfast buffet which great and snacked at the OverVUE lounge for lunch. Can't wait for dinner at the restaurant. The F&B Director, Jeff, is getting my wife a tofu bowl that isn't on the menu at the restaurant but is on the menu at the OverVUE lounge. He let us know that they're separate kitchens, but would make sure she got it. This has been such a wonderful weekend! Shout out to all the staff and especially Ellie

Gabriella A.

Yelp
I cannot stress enough how amazing the service at this hotel was. My family and I came here from Los Angeles due to the fires, and despite the crazy amount of new reservations they received from everyone evacuating, they were so kind and patient with every single customer. Pushpa and the rest of the staff provided us amazing service and we are so thankful for the accommodations and kindness we experienced. We had an amazing experience here and definitely will be back. Thank you for the amazing customer service and support to everyone coming in this week!

AJ D.

Yelp
Beautiful ocean view from our room. We went there for my wife's birthday. Made reservation for dinner. Our kids loved the pool side and there is a cute little playground right outside, how convenient. Room was excellent. Overall great quality. Staff were friendly. Restaurant staff were very dedicated for a good evening dining. Gave us plenty of time to enjoy the nice evening. Awesome service. Would go back again.

Carla E.

Yelp
Overall we had a great experience here. The rooms are beautiful, and the location is wonderful with beautiful views. All of our friends got together on Friday and Saturday night at the hotel bar and had a great time. I enjoyed the room service as well. Would give this location 5 stars if it were not for the service. The check in process was a disaster. I dealt with the manager Nick and he was very rude and condescending. After everything was said and done I mentioned I was unhappy with how things were handled, and Nick went on to voice his opinion to our groups, which was completely unprofessional. If this manager were no longer there, we may go back.

Elisa G.

Yelp
I've stayed here before and it's pretty nice but what's up with the valet parking? There's a ridiculously long wait every single time!! It's definitely not a five-star resort but it's cute and nice enough and they have some really cool old photos. The gym is very mediocre.

True P.

Yelp
Booking spa appointments for top Executives and received the worst customer service from Spa Reception. Was greeted with exasperation at simple questions, and hung up on. Would highly suggest Spa reception be retrained or depart from a customer service role.

Carol S.

Yelp
Came to help my daughter take care of her babies while she was out and can't leave unless I pay for parking. They said I have to charge it, but did not have my credit card. They wouldn't allow me to bill the room which is what I was supposed to do. And that was what I was told to do unless I ate at restaurant. We changed plans on eating in the restaurant since the baby cried for 3 hours. Would not advise staying here. So many other great options. Back to Ritz or montage.

Sean S.

Yelp
Great staff, very friendly staff. The rooms are just out dated and not well maintained. AC barely works and shuts off while you're sleeping... Would never stay here again. If sleeping in 76 degrees is something that doesn't bother you then you will like it here

Angela G.

Yelp
The rooms and the views were so nice! The view of the ocean is absolutely stunning. The only downfall is that we tried to go into the hot tub and it was freezing cold!

Ethan C.

Yelp
This hidden gem in Orange County combines five star service with a laid back beach vibe. From the team members, breakfast, in-room dining, spa and... don't forget the views...it's a destination that I'm glad I discovered. There's no going wrong with Laguna Cliffs.

John F.

Yelp
Stayed here for one night while on business and really liked the quality of the recently renovated room. I enjoyed the fact that it was not the typical hotel layout in some respects and appreciated the small sitting area that is part of even the basic resort-view room, which actually, in our case, did have a partial view of the ocean, much to our surprise. It had a nice balcony, though it was a bit noisy on that side of the resort. You could barely hear the noise inside the room, though, and we had no trouble with it at all. What probably kept us from sleeping the best was not the noise but the beds, which are fairly hard and not nearly as comfortable as beds at other Marriotts or other hotel chains of this caliber at which I have stayed. The pillows, however, were good. Every serviceperson we spoke with was helpful and friendly, from the bell staff to the front desk. One of them even offered to open up the small on-property store for us after it had closed. I do think the store could be a bit larger with more variety, and there's no counter-service restaurant or coffee shop on property, which is a bummer. Your only real options are a continental breakfast for about $20 per person or a full breakfast buffet for $40 per person. We didn't try either of those, so I can't vouch for them. You can't easily walk to a restaurant because of the hotel's placement on the top of a hill--one of the nice features of the hotel in terms of the views but a bit inconvenient if you are wanting to walk somewhere. That said, if you do like to walk, there are some beautiful walks down the hill, either down the main road or down a walkway on one side of the property. The foliage on the property itself is quite beautiful and well taken care of. The pricing here is high but still about 40-50% lower than the Ritz-Carlton or Waldorf-Astoria properties up the road, depending on the season and room type. Overall, I was pleased with the night we spent here and had a better experience than I anticipated, except for the hard mattress. Kudos to the staff for their friendliness and attentiveness while we were there.

Mark C.

Yelp
5 star resort in Dana Point with excellent food services and conference amenities My room was very luxurious and resort was a short distance from the village Beautiful grounds, and excellent pool & fitness amenities

Marissa G.

Yelp
I have found my destination for SoCal getaways. We loved EVERYTHING about this hotel. It is clean and classy, with fresh, modern rooms, beautiful grounds, and a delightful staff. This is a true resort that you don't need to leave for a thing - and you won't want to. We enjoyed the complimentary bike rentals and wine and beer tasting included in our resort fee. The Overvue Lounge has a creative fusion menu (I would describe it as a thoughtful combination of flavors from all edges of the pacific) and the dishes really deliver. The rooms are quiet and many have an ocean view. Also, great gym and beautiful pool overlooking the ocean (there are two but we only visited one while we were there). One note about the current rating of this hotel: if you dig into the low reviews, many of them are due to a protracted labor negotiation, which I was happy to learn has been resolved. The staff won a new contract - and everyone seems happy about it! You can feel good about supporting this hotel that has reached an agreement with its employees. After just one stay, I feel deeply loyal to this hotel and will return again and again!

Kristie J.

Yelp
This hotel wasn't for us but could be for others! This is a massive resort it is incredibly busy but very well kept. We paid $500 per night plus $54 for parking per day. Our complaint has to do with the room. During the summer it has been incredibly hot however our room would not get under 75 degrees. We called the front desk someone came to look at the unit, it wasn't going down any lower so we got another room. They have incredible staff and service they were very nice and put us in a nicer room with working air. The air conditioner only got down to 71 which felt much nicer but my boyfriend who requires much lower sleeping temperature was not satisfied. The facility is very nice but busy morning coffee was a decent wait and at night the parties including weddings take up a lot of parking and account for a lot of the crowd. For the price we paid we would not come back however if you stayed on property they offer lots to do especially for children therefore it could be worth it. We came here to look at the hotel as a possible wedding venue, looks very beautiful just too large and busy for us.

Yelp
As a Titanium Elite member who stayed 98 nights with Marriott last year, I am extremely disappointed with my recent experience at the Laguna Marriott. During my stay, my fiancé left a few of her bracelets on the counter while we went to a work meeting. Upon our return, the most expensive bracelet of the bunch, David Yurman, was missing. We wanted to give the staff the benefit of the doubt, so we waited until the next day to call and ask if anyone had turned it in. The lady who answered the phone didn't even listen to our concerns and immediately directed us to a website to file a claim. After submitting the claim, we had to wait a few days before finally being contacted by lost & found. Despite their assurances that they would take care of us, the insurance process took well over two months. Ultimately, my claim was denied. My bracelet was stolen from my room, and the hotel made me endure a lengthy and frustrating insurance process only for it to be in vain. I recommend not staying at this hotel, and if you do, do not bring any valuable jewelry. The faculty and staff clearly do not care for their customers. I am honestly embarrassed for this property. As a lifetime Marriott elite member, I have never experienced anything like this. There is a clear risk of theft, and the employees and management do not care about their guests.

Yelp
Weekend getaway, seems by looking a the latest reviews there was a protest going on a few days back, there were no disruptions on our visit. The room seems to be recently remodeled with a view of the ocean in the distance. The toiletries are high budget, towels are plush, and the sheets have high thread count. The room has a mini fridge and a nespresso machine. There is a daily resort fee, but you do get a few perks in activities and beverages. We had cocktails and lite bites in the bar up front, pro tip - there is Spam fried rice on the menu, so good. You can walk to the beach and restaurants down the hill. You cannot beat the vistas from the room and the park right outside the resort in front. This location used to accept dogs, which is the only thing that would have made the visit better.

Hotel has very nice updated rooms, beautiful coastal views from the deck. Staff was very friendly, helpful and pleasant. From valet to Manager Alfred Hammond greeted us upon our arrival made sure we've everything we need. So impressed by that, he seemed to walk around the property making sure everything is in order. Lucas and Sophia at the pool were also great served us and help us around. Pool area was very clean and fun, food my the pool was very good. The hotel resturant Knife steak house had an extensive menus and very delicious, decore was also very nice and chic. Loved the outdoor fire pits. Highly recommend this location and will definitely stay here again!

Yelp
Came here for a wedding. It's a very beautiful venue even though the weather was not at its best for California standards that day. They provide venues from ceremony to cocktail party to reception, all marvelous. Even the food was surprisingly good. We had a great time and really loved this place.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I did a one-night staycation at Laguna Cliffs Marriott Resort & Spa. The resort is beautiful, and the staff service that we experienced was top-notch. We had a really relaxing time and enjoyed our trip. The guest rooms are modern and spacious. I liked the minimalist costal vibe of our room, and I also liked that the flooring was wood and not carpet. Our room was on the ground floor overlooking the front lawn and had a little patio space. It was not an ocean view since we did not want to pay the extra cost for a nicer view, but it was a nice view. We went to OuterVue for some drinks before going to dinner at Outer Reef. The next morning, we had the breakfast buffet at OuterVue. The bartenders at OuterVue were very friendly. Our dinner at Outer Reef was amazing. It was a very pricey meal, but it was an experience worth splurging on. The breakfast buffet was as expected of a hotel buffet, and it was good. Before we left, we played a little bit of mini golf on the lawn. The pool looked so nice, but we did not get to spend any time there. Across the hotel is a park and the beach. Sadly, our trip was short so we did not do much besides relax at the hotel. We will be back to Laguna Cliffs one day for another staycation though.

Yelp
What a lovely romantic experience this was - 5 star all the way! We went here on a whim one Sunday after watching football all day. We read about it in a Orange County magazine so decided to give it a go! It was better than described! The service was outstanding - they even brought me a blanket because I easily chill sitting outside coastal. We did the full monte having everything from appetizer, salad, main course and their complimentary dessert. The bread basket they brought us was nice to munch on. The restaurant is super clean. The ambience is elegant coastal classy. They make you feel like you are #1. The live music was acoustic guitar which only added over the moon atmosphere. Watching the sunset - you couldn't ask for more! It's pricey but worth every penny! When I go sometime I want to have the chef's special potato chips appetizer with foie gras.

Yelp
Excellent hotel with beautiful views. Although it is the weekend but I don't see crowed people here. Great weekend getaway spot. Erin at front desk is very friendly and helpful.

Yelp
We had such a wonderful stay! A HUGE thank you to Ciara, F&B Supervisor for going out of her way to make my 4 year olds trip so special. Your thoughtful and kind gestures are what make a place special and memorable. We will definitely be back to visit and make more sun catchers with you! We appreciate you and your hospitality. The family with the hair!

Yelp
Stayed here for a company event, that was also hosted at the resort. Beautiful views, very clean, helpful and kind staff. Would recommend to anyone.

Yelp
My mom and I recently went here on a little weekend getaway and it was so relaxing and rejuvenating. They have a very warm and welcoming staff which made the experience even more enjoyable. One highlight of our stay was using the hotel bikes to explore the area, and the hotel staff made the process effortless. However, it's worth noting that the hill up to the hotel is quite steep, which may require a bit of effort to navigate with bikes. Nevertheless, once we reached the bottom, we took the beautiful bike path that stretched along the coastline and through the park. We also used spa services which were amazing as well. We're already looking forward to our next visit and can't wait to come again.

Yelp
Stayed at the resort for 3 nights - overall, would come back but only if it were on points. (Marriott Bonvoy) The hotel looks recently remodeled, although it was bits and pieces. The pools are nice - large heated jacuzzi's and splash pad for the kids. Multiple choices for onsite dining and spa services but better and more economical options are within a mile in any direction. We came right after the strikes, and staff seemed very light. Only interactions we had was during check in, which was pleasant and by the pool, which was also good! No other interactions with staff, other than with valet, which is actually a separate vendor company, and not Marriott. There is a playground and lots of walking on the property, and every view is amazing. I like the location of the resort and it's proximity to the freeway and restaurants, 5 minutes for almost anything! 3 stars due to smoke-smell permeating the room portion of hotel, $47 charge for valet IN ADDITION to $35 resort fee, and poor beach access.

Yelp
Overrated. Food was mediocre. Views were acceptable but location didn't lend well for distant travelers. If you want to stay at hotel and eat out enjoy. If you have any status with Marriot- doesn't seem to be much of a factor is benefits- meaning you are like everyone else traveling through. So why stay here. You can go anywhere.

Yelp
Wonderful stay from start to finish. The valet guys are really on it and incredibly accommodating, friendly and helpful, it's the best first impression you can get upon arrival is having a good valet service in my opinion. It sets the tone for a welcoming and care free stay. Next at check in all went smoothly as well. Our bags were brought to our room with us and he even sent a housekeeper in to make the sofa bed for our toddler, now that's incredible service. The views were amazing and the beauty of the property doesn't get much better, gorgeous flowers and landscaping throughout. I would have given 5 stars except there were a couple points in our stay that didn't go so smoothly. Our key card initially didn't work, our baggage guy let us in with the master key, so we had to go back and get a new key that worked. My husband asked for a late check out and was given an attitude by a young woman who didn't even bother to check or explain. He went back and asked a different lady and she was accommodating and even explained the policy in a kind way (apparently $50 extra per hour after standard check out time). Finally, upon check out we were given the final bill with one charge that was incorrect from a restaurant we didn't visit. They were quick to fix the wrong charge but that is a bit disconcerting to see. They even apologized and said there was someone with the same last name and that's why it occurred. So normally I might have docked more stars for the 3 annoying things that happened primarily with front desk folks but some I chalk up to innocent human mistakes that can happen with the exception of the rude employee. I think the valet folks and the amazing interaction we had with those at the front desk made up for it. It's all about their wonderful attitude and the beauty of this place that is just second to none.

Yelp
This place had impeccable service. We were blown away just how attentive the staff was. The hotel was really clean. We had an amazing suite with beautiful balconies. The amenities were great there were Bose speakers. Nespresso coffee makers. Electric curtains. The restaurant was delicious. We had a blast will be back again.

Yelp
Wow such a romantic and luxurious resort and getaway experience! We arrived a little after 6pm on a Saturday night and were checked in immediately. Just note that there's no self parking, only valet parking is available, which is fine, but can be an issue especially if there's an event going on. The line can be long and the wait can be lengthy when it's backed up. Other than that, our stay was was absolutely lovely! The staff was so nice and accommodating when we arrived, from valet to bell staff to receptionists. We got a complimentary upgrade to a pool view room with balcony and everyone had been so kind and lovely during our stay. They offer a lot of complimentary activities to do around or within the hotel. We took advantage of their complimentary 2-hour bike rental and used it to bike around Dana Point Harbor and Doheny State Beach. The weather was perfect! The hotel is right next to Lantern Bay Park as well, so that is one of the perks of the hotel location. There are a few nice restaurants near the harbor that we enjoyed during the evenings. The restaurant in the resort is also said to be great as well. I wish we could've stayed longer, but we can't wait to be back! What a pleasant experience! Highly recommend!

Yelp
My husband and I just stayed here as a staycation to celebrate our 5 year anniversary. I was extremely frustrated with booking with points, but once I got there I had a wonderful time and great service. Although there were king rooms available, I booked a two double bed room resort view because that is all the site would allow me to book with points. However, when I arrived I asked if they could switch to a king, which they were able to accommodate that request and upgraded to a partial ocean view. All the staff were extremely kind and generous. They made us feel special during our trip. The views are amazing and the location is great. You can walk to the downtown up the hill or down to the harbor and beach. A kid friendly resort with two splash pads in the pool area, big lawn area, and public park with playground just off the premises. There is a $35 resort fee but if you use the benefits (Wi-Fi, bike rental, beer/wine tasting, boogie board/surf board, etc) it is well worth it. We would definitely stay here again.

Yelp
$60. for valet parking with no other alternative $35. resort fee for an outdoor pool when the weather is in the 50s Rooms are very nice, and personnel are friendly. Sorry, hard pass Marriott. You can do better...

Yelp
Visited overnight there for 4th of July 2024. Got reservation & spent day @ kid's pool. Very well done - had a great time with adult children & grandkids, 6-1/2- & 2-year-old twins. Price has gone up, but worth the expense. Resort cut off entry early in day to avoid overcrowding at pool if you did not have a reservation (did see some disappointed latecomers who were waitlisted.) Facilities, pools, & service was excellent. Special consideration to Manager Michael who is first class, but especially to server Ashley who was just the best! Also enjoyed poolside food - yummy taco bar hit the spot. Huge crowd for holiday, but ready to book our rooms for next year.

Yelp
At $500/night, this room was unacceptable. The noise was so loud it kept us up and we actually called at 1 am to complain. Mind you we checked in a day early to ensure adequate rest for our conference the next day. They offered to send someone up to take a look but it was already 1am so we just turned it off and opened windows and decided to talk to them in a few hours when we got up. We spoke to Susan who never even introduced herself to us (the only Assistant Manager working we were told) who offered to move us later on in the day (pack now) and $100 credit. She had attitude and such entitlement like we were beneath her. We paid for a night we can't get back and also for a subpar room. When we requested compensation we were denied saying that was their final offer because we were there at a conference rate. At $500/night I expected a far better room let alone better experience. Restaurant staff and valet were the only good things about this hotel. I haven't stayed at the Marriott in years and wouldn't have been here if not for this work conference. Stick to the Hilton hotel group instead.

Yelp
Amazing resort! Attentive staff, amazing valet service (they only offer valet but still). The views are to die for. Even pool view had ocean view-a pleasant surprise as the photos indicate. Clean rooms, very thoughtful decor and furniture. It's worth the money to stay here. Do it! Stayed 2/21/23-2/22/23

Yelp
I'm happy to give this resort's restaurant (named "The Restaurant) a "5" rating, which is the top rating on YELP. The outdoor patio is surrounded by a grassy park and trees high on a hill, with ocean views. The property is up a long drive, is separate from the commotion down below and is tranquil. For dinner the fire tables and lighting are exceptional and guaranteed to flatter you and your fellow diners. So many restaurants have industrial-looking LED lighting or depressing grey spots. Warm lighting enhanced by fire resonnates with my DNA (former caveman) and is best for humans. The seats are padded and comfortable. Servers all spoke perfect English and were clean-cut and attractive. We tipped over 30%. Lastly, the food: Salmon was fabulous. They must have a good chef (and I do mean "Chef", not some cook who they flatter with the title). It's the best Salmon in memory. Table next to us had one helluva succulent steak, which I'm goin' for next time. Often resorts don't have the best food because the guests are a captive audience who often eat on property and these resort restaurants don't get alot of business from locals because often the best restaurants are in the town itself. Resorts are sometimes tourist traps. Not the Laguna Cliffs. We live locally and will become regulars at "The Restaurant"

Yelp
I wanted to update this 3 - star review to a 4- star, as the general manager's executive assistant stepped in and made sure that I received a complementary free stay comparable to our last accommodations l! It was a fair deal and greatly appreciated! I would give this hotel a 5-star, if they could ever fix the front-desk staffs ability to field calls and return messages in a timely manner.
