If you’re in the mood for even more leather and “spice” while in Berlin, consider a pit stop at Larb Koi. The room leans knowingly retro-kitsch: red leather banquettes, low lighting and electric candles cast a warm glow. It lands with charm rather than pastiche.
The kitchen, however, is the main focus. Flavors are layered, heat bold yet carefully calibrated. A tongue-in-cheek printed note on the menu reminds diners that the kitchen takes no responsibility for the heat (or its after-effects!). I personally found the spice level ideal.
The beef curry comes with tender pieces folded through green tomatoes and greens, the sauce carrying both depth and brightness. The chicken larb heaped with fresh herbs and leaves, brings lift and crunch against the spice. I’d have ventured further across the menu, had stomach space allowed.
Proof that a little leather and a lot of spice goes a long way.
