"I’m a sucker for a good bookstore, especially one containing a cafe run by the folks behind one of my favorite Austin restaurants Better Half. What especially caught my eye and eventually my stomach was the chana masala Frito pie, where spiced chickpeas lay atop a bed of Frito chips, all with a big dollop of raita. The spices and textures (firm chickpeas, crisp chips, cooling dip) all worked wonderfully together. —Nadia Chaudhury" - Erin Russell, Nadia Chaudhury

Loveliest little book store! Love the set up and the coffee shop as well is so adorable, unfortunately we stepped in like 14 minutes before they closed so we didn’t get to spend much time inside but we will definitely be back soon and many times I’m sure.

LOVE this bookstore. A very clever arrangement of books and cards and gifts. We spent about 45 minutes wandering around and need to go back to sample the cookies at the little coffee stand at the back. 10/10 recommend

If you all love supporting local bookstores and coffee shops I would definitely recommend this cozy, quaint and cute little bookshop in Georgetown. It’s one of my favorite places to go to. I visit here often and I just love the vibes and atmosphere in the bookstore. One of my favorite local bookstores and their coffee shop is amazing. They have a wide variety of books and I love their fiction section. If you have kids you will fall in love with their kids section. Such an adorable spot for little ones to sit, relax and read. They also have so many gift items that are really unique and you can’t find anywhere else. I would just love if you all would support this amazing bookstore because when you support local you are supporting small business ❤️❤️❤️❤️

Loved this place! Open and welcoming atmosphere, great selection of books, cards, stationary, and more. There’s a nice and affordable coffee bar inside with pastries, bar seating, and larger tables for groups. Coffee was great with plenty of flavors/options. There’s a cute kids play section as well.

Google
A fabulous locally owned bookstore that effortlessly has you browsing eash shelf finding all the unique stories. The pastries and coffee were delicious. I especially love the reading chairs and books that welcome all ages to sit back and enjoy a moment with a book!

Google
One of my favorite places in Georgetown to hang out. They have several book clubs that I love to attend and some really great events. It’s also just a great place to grab a drink, a snack and browse all the amazing authors. They are the reason I have so many books on my TBR. Self-care is grabbing a drink and browsing their selection whenever I can.

Google
it’s a great place. I live in Bee Cave and still make the effort to go at least once a month. I love their events and the store is beautiful, wish i lived closer to enjoy the coffee shop located inside after purchasing a book! Highly recommend and will always be on top of my list for bookstores.

While I'm a fan of Barnes & Noble and Amazon...NOTHING is better than having and supporting a great little bookshop in your area. We're lucky enough to have Lark and Owl in Georgetown. Talk about tiny but powerful! Not only are the staff educated about what's on the shelves (read they're real readers too) but they're just great to chat with. A wide selection of books (I always find something in the fiction section) including a great kids section with a little area for the kiddos to hang out and read. For the adults, there's a great little coffee shop/bistro and sitting area to read...or work (they have plugs for laptops!). There's a super fun gift/knick knack section too that never ceases to elicit a chuckle. If you're looking for gifts for yourself or fellow book nerds...it's here. The shop has such a great, chill vibe. They've also just included a used book section which I love and I was able to pick up a year's old first edition printing of a book from a local author who was having an author talk at the store. Oh ya, and about that, they have an amazing author series bringing in writers from all genres! If you're currently reading it...they're probably getting the author to come talk about it! When I have a bad day, I head to the bookshop and this store and staff never cease to lighten my spirits and make me happy. Stop by and support a local, woman-owned bookstore. We need to keep this store around for years to come!

Yelp
Lark & Owl is a unique book store. The shelves are not piled high but rather curated with thoughtful choices. There is a mix of books and trinkets among the store. They have unique stickers, bookmarks, socks and locally created items. There is an outside area to sit that is perfect for a sunny day. The bookstore is solid but the coffee shop not to the same par. I got a latte extra shot with almond milk and an earl grey cookie. The cookie was phenomenal! It has a crisp edge with a gooey center and the flavors were on point. The latte on the other hand was shockingly an outlier to the whole experience. It tasted burnt and lacked any flavors of the coffee. After one sip I wanted to return it but I had already driven off. Hopefully there is a move to elevate that experience all in all a great place to check out.

Yelp
When you have a 45 min wait for the monument cafe, you explore and find this gem! First of all, a coffee shop? Yes. It's such a cute quirky joint, they def need to bring more of these around! Everyone working was so sweet too!

Katie G.

Yelp
Adorable book store in Georgetown! Everything is so quirky and visually appealing. Did not have the opportunity to try their cafe but everything looked great. Would recommend coming to browse and enjoy all the unique touches!

Olivia M.

Yelp
A great local bookstore with a variety of authors to choose from. There's a cute coffee and treats bar inside that serves pastries, charcuterie, etc. and I love their author talks and community events. It's a great place to sip, read and chill.

Yelp
I stopped in over the weekend to get some work done outside of my house. This is a great spot northwest of Georgetown square if you are looking to go alone or with a friend. Previously, I've dined here for brunch and was pleasantly surprised with the food. This experience was a pinch lackluster, as the two employees informed me they could only offer what slim options were available in the cold case. For it being midday Saturday, I was surprised that they had so little, and it seemed like no further fresh foods would be made. I settled on a chicken wrap and lemonade, and while they were good, I was a bit saddened that I had so few options. My advice would be to come earlier to ensure you have a shot at more variety and their full menu, because the food and drinks are tasty. Another fun fact about this cafe is that they feature local art for sale on the walls, should you be so enticed by the decoration that you want to bring some of it home. I will absolutely be back, because I adore bookshops and cafes, and even midday on Saturday, there was enough quiet for me to be productive.

Melissa M.

Yelp
This place looks amazing! It's a coffee shop and bookstore, super super cute! The staff is chill and hospitable, very nice! The coffee was just ok for me, my boyfriend didn't like his. We asked for modifications but he still didn't like it, said it tasted burned. If we were to come back to this city, we may go to another place of our coffee, but other than that this is still a cool place to visit

Lance L.

Yelp
We attended Don Bentley's new book release party for "Catch or Kill". It was a wonderful event hosted by the Lark and Owl staff. They served special cocktails, snacks and had live music. The bookstore and bistro is spacious and quaint at the same time. Great hidden gem just off the square. Locally owned. I highly recommend it.

Vandesha L.

Yelp
Stumbled upon this place while walking downtown Georgetown. From the front door to the back this place stole my heart. It's woman owned, inclusive, hip enough for adults and young teens but still very much kid friendship. They have the cutest coffee bar/bakery and attached is a wine bar. They have book clubs you can sign up for and local crafts. They even have a little gift section. I got a few greeting cards and some books and other gifts. I plan to join a book club since I'm currently reading one of the selections.

Lauren R.

Yelp
Such a cute bookstore! So many adorable and quirky gift options, a trendy café space, and creative play area for kids spanning three different levels with a chalkboard, reading nook and toys. To the previous reviewer who complained about them only having social justice message kids books.........*hard eye roll* you really just didn't even try. Their kids section is BIG for a small local bookstore. My kids keep asking to go back! I heard about them from a group of local authors because they are such staunch supporters of Austin area writers. They have so many author events and other fun collabs that I can't wait to attend when I can get a night off.

Jennifer V.

Yelp
This bookstore has everything you need including books, games/puzzles, arts and crafts, plants, jewelry, and more! Things are priced as indie bookstores typically are. The shelves are organized well with a lot of showcased books in case you need some guidance or inspiration on what to purchase. As other reviewers mentioned, the books are progressive which I appreciate! The aesthetic is also very trendy. Support local!!

Sydney S.

Yelp
One of my top favorite bookstores! Every time I visit Austin I must stop by. The selection is on the narrow side, but they offer a WIDE genre selection, a lot of signed copies, a kids' corner, a café, and local products (candles, stationary, puzzles, jewelry, stickers). The owners are very nice & I know they host a lot of events. Just haven't timed my visits with any yet!

Dan G.

Yelp
A neat little place. Cool idea for a coffee shop to be able to buy a book and sit to read. As for the coffee I wasn't too impressed. My vanilla latte was not well made and tasted burnt though the chai latte was just fine.

Ashley L.

Yelp
I've loved Lark & Owl since they opened, but I recently had the best experience that prompted me to write a review! I came to do some homework while my sister got a haircut next door and was welcomed by the lovely ambiance of their cafe. I was able to plug my laptop in and enjoy perhaps one of the best matcha lemonades I've ever had, as well as freshly baked butter croissant that the barista hand delivered to my table. My total was $10 for both the drink and croissant, but they were well crafted and and thoughtfully plated, making it worth the price in my opinion. The snack was so delicious, I promptly bought another for my sister! If you're looking for a new coffee shop to get some work done or simply read a new book while enjoying the cafe, I highly recommend this Georgetown gem!

Katie M.

Yelp
I had a Christmas gift card and had never been. This place is exactly what you want! It's local, smallish and has a great selection. The employees were fantastic about giving a good book recommendation. I used my gift card of $25 and purchased two books and a new planner for work. Totally reasonable prices. It smelled like fresh books and coffee inside which i/m 10/10 for! If you're a book lover, this is the place you're looking for. 10/10, my new book store.

Katie H.

Yelp
Nice ambience nice staff. Good selection but pricy cute bistro. We need more places like this preferably around Leander and cedar park.

Yelp
Christmas Eve, I was so excited to stumble upon an actual bookstore. As I walked in with my sister-in-law for some last minute book shopping we were immediately overwhelmed by what felt like a charming store we so often reminisce. After ten minutes of browsing, I found a great book for my wife, she found some great children's books. As we were attempting to add to our collection of books one of the employees walked with brisk towards my sister-in-law and grabbed her coffee cup, stating in a faux-charming tone, how she cannot carry that cup because of the law. The law? Because this bookstore serves wine and/or coffee, they, or we, could get in trouble if we brought in coffee from an outside vendor. It wasn't clear but it was a very idol waste of her breath. The whole execution of taking coffee out of our hands and threatening of some sort of breach of law, get a life. I was trying so hard to show my visiting family the lovely city of Georgetown and the glimpse of a charming bookstore was quickly ruined. I'm very thankful I found the exact book on Amazon for less money and no threat of me breaking the law.

Yelp
Quirky and fun bookstore! Find great books and unique and cool gifts. You can also purchase coffee or food from the Bistro. There's indoor and outdoor seating. Friendly and helpful staff have some fabulous book recs as well. Shop local! Support independent bookstores!

Holly C.

Yelp
I was really excited for this book store but unfortunately left with a sour taste in my mouth.

Yelp
I love this progressive, trendy, and friendly bookstore!! My new favorite bookstore actually :-)) I attended an author q & a hosted by park & owl with elena armas and it was absolutely delightful!! we were invited to get our books signed at the bookstore and it was so much fun! Lark and owl has a wide variety of titles on their shelves and so many cute other items such as graphic tees, a cafe, and a plant corner! I can't wait to go back and get a new book!! absolutely love all the material in their inventory on important topics such as feminism, the LGBTQ community, communities of color, etc that allows readers to explore and empower themselves with knowledge. I definitely don't get the sense that anyone is trying to cram anything down anyone's throat (if you catch my drift) as the environment Lark & Owl are creating is that of acceptance, positivity, empowerment, and kindness.

Andrea V.

Yelp
This was the first time I went in there to purchase a book - the previous time being to order breakfast when getting my hair done next door. I was on the hunt for a kids book for an upcoming baby shower. I had trouble finding a non political /social justice book for the parents to be and baby. What happened to books without an agenda? I was about to purchase "Oh the Places You'll Go" but decided to take my money elsewhere. What a shame because it's a cute store.

Maja D.

Yelp
I'm visiting my sister in Texas for the Christmas vacation after she came to see me a week earlier to drive to Colorado. She took me to this spot on a Sunday and it was such a delightful experience. We sat at the bar and ordered the tomato soup and grilled cheese as well as the French toast. We also ordered a mimosa and cappuccino. The food was really flavorful and fresh. Definitely made to order. After dinner we perused the book store and found two amazing graphic novels and fun stickers. The staff were very friendly as well. This is definitely a good spot to check out if you're visiting or even if you're a local looking for a nice place to eat and even work.

Yelp
Lark & Owl is a charming bookshop with attached cafe in Georgetown. After hearing about it from fellow bookworms, I finally made the trek with fellow booklovers and was immediately enchanted. Not only is there a pretty good selection for the space (which is one story, and not very big) but it's also beautifully designed. Every surface has something pretty or adorable on it, even the ceiling tile above the registers which is wallpapered with a pretty design. Aside from books, there are gift and home items like soy candles and coffee mugs, attire like Out of Print® shirts and store logo tees, and boozy drinks at the cafe. The store is independently founded, owned, and run by women. I am trying to watch my budget but I was happy to give money to this company. Though I'm not in Georgetown that often, I would definitely go back to keep supporting this business.

Jessica H.

Yelp
This book store is amazing! The book selection is lovely and there are so many buttons and stickers and trinkets. Not to mention all the notebooks. It's genuinely really lovely. The staff is incredibly helpful and kind. They're happy to give you recommendations or show you around if they aren't too busy. The bistro was closed when I was there. But they have free cold water and a nice little sitting area to drink or read whatever book you purchased! Which is really lovely

Samantha B.

Yelp
I have been to Lark & Owl many times, and I absolutely adore their bookstore! It is the perfect amount of quaint, kitchy, and cozy. I love that they have a wide variety of items for sale aside from books, as well as a cafe/bar to eat and drink while you work or browse. Recently, I saw them advertising on instagram for people to host their next party or club at the bookstore. I inquired as it seemed like the perfect spot to host our English Department holiday party. They were super quick to respond with different options and they were so kind and accommodating throughout the process! It was the easiest booking interaction I have ever had. For about 20-25 teachers, we had the entire bookstore to ourselves to hang out, chat, play games, and shop! They allowed us to have a potluck and they had their bar open for us to order drinks throughout our event. Little setup was needed as they already have the bistro seating area, and they supplied a few tables for us to setup our food, gifts, and games. The entire evening was perfect, and they were helpful and attentive to our needs from start to finish. All of my coworkers loved having the event there and had such a wonderful time. I highly recommend booking your next event at Lark & Owl for the best experience and ambiance!

Beth P.

Yelp
Love this place. Great well organized sections with whatever is the latest release included. I'm captured every time I visit. Wonderful selection of gifts thoughtfully merchandised. Friendly staff. It's hard to leave once you're there and impossible to leave without finding a something to purchase.

Michelle B.

Yelp
I'm been wanting to make the trek to Georgetown for awhile to check out this bookstore. I wasn't disappointed. Cute store. They didn't have the book I was seeking as it was sold out, but could order via a QR code to have delivered to my house. Loved the historical fiction section and could have spent more time in the store than I did. Will come back when in the area.

Cynthia D.

Yelp
great idea! Love the bookstore, but the bistro is closed due to staffing. Seemed like there were plenty of people working. Maybe modifying the menu? A great place to study and work...except there are no outlets to use...ANYWHERE. Will come again when the Bistro is functional

Ima L.

Yelp
My favorite bookstore. Sometimes I don't need a book, but enjoy stopping by to checkout what is in stock. Sometimes I wish they would be open later bc I would want to spend my evenings here.

Tara H.

Yelp
Great, eclectic book store in Georgetown. I frequent anytime I need to find a gift or the latest fiction.

Shane B.

Yelp
This amazing little bookstore is a haven to all who enter into this magical portal. I especially like their "just a little sweary" items and stickers. Whether you are looking for your next read, a gift for someone, or a place to sit and drift away to another world, Lark and Owl is your bookish home in Georgetown.

Diana K.

Yelp
Thank you so much for creating such a cozy and cute little space! We stumbled on it by accident and absolutely loved it - the kids' nook is precious, loved the mural and the layout of the book store. We'll come again when the cafe is open (it's closed on Tuesdays), it's instaperfect!

Sara N.

Yelp
Adorable place with a little of everything. Wish they had a lightly bigger general fiction section but I understand they are trying to represent all genres in a smaller space. Super cute store though and I'll definitely be back if I'm ever in the area

Rebecca L.

Yelp
Lark & Owl Bistro (@larkandowlbistro) If you extracted this little bistro from this beautiful, homey atmosphere into some gangsta alley, I'd still labor to have their breakfast. Their Croque Madam ($9.50) is a buttered thick white toast sandwich with ham, gruyere (I don't even know what this is people!) and topped with bechemel ( ) sauce sunny side egg. I'm not really a French food person - there's a unnecessary prestige entitlement that usually comes with - but I sure like me this mademoiselle. Stop ordering biscuits and gravy and your Cracker Barrel and come here. The creme sauce is much less salty and fresher than your southern cooked gravy. It's much more manageable and on the pallet, and it paired well with the crisp crust of the toast and the airiness of the white bread. When mixed with the deep orange yolk, it's at a different level of satisfaction. The ham has a sweetness (but not cinnamon brown sugar) that keep you going. The cheeses - natural stringy cheese that make you regret all the American and cheddar cheese you've ever consumed in your life. Then to brighten this up a bit, the side mixed salad uses high quality butter lettuce and acidic dressing that breaks up all the creaminess (like cranberry to the Thanksgiving turkey). Have it and chill for the rest of your day . . Oh and by the way, in addition to coffees and food they also do cocktails. Something to sip on while you watch the kids in the kiddy book corner

Monica W.

Yelp
Cute bookstore but very left leaning which surprised me in Georgetown. It wouldn't have been so disappointing if there had been a good mix of books but I was very turned off by the over kill on left leaning and feminist's books. I looked to see if there was an area that carried at least a few more conservative topics but no, there were not. Very sad but it's not my store. I do have to say that it is cute and cozy at first glance but the help wasn't friendly either.

Charles S.

Yelp
Delightful book shop! And a beautiful gift shop! Exactly what a book lover wants to walk into! Friendly, welcoming staff, a beautiful space with unique decor and an easy to browse layout. So many fun gifts to shop for too! I was happily surprised to see potted plants, gourmet food items, handmade jewelry and other unusual -to-a-bookstore items alongside the more common gift offerings like greeting cards, stationery and games. I would absolutely shop here for any gift-giving event! I especially loved the handwritten book recomendations on the shelves, that's a personal touch I really enjoy.

Chrissy H.

Yelp
I adore this place. It's such a gem. It's clean. Though their selection is smaller then the bigger box store any one of the members can recommend you a great read. They are very knowledgeable. They also have a bistro so stay for brunch or grab a coffee and browse. They also carry a variety of merchandise. I always leave with something as well as great conversations.

Paul D.

Yelp
While sneaking around the corner I saw a bookstore sign on a door and walked in. This was an amazing little independent bookstore with lots of character. They had newly released books along with classics. I purchased a book while browsing around. There are also nick knack gifts to purchase and the people working here are very nice and friendly. The fun is not over where there is a bar serving coffee along with a menu which serves breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner. Looks like farm to table too. They even have alcohol too and an outdoor biergarten too. The whole package from books to beer is so tempting I am already planning my return trip back to Georgetown.

Gen M.

Yelp
What an adorable bookstore. So well decorated, inviting, plenty of book and unique knick-knacks. Friendly and sweet barista with wonderful coffee and a killer breakfast sandwich. Just an all around lovely experience. Cannot believe it took me so long to come here. I'll be back...often!

Lara H.

Yelp
Wow, I am so impressed with Lark & Owl! The attention to detail really shows here and it's clear the owners put in a lot of effort to make it a special and unique bookstore. They have a wide variety of books that will appeal to everyone, as well as adorable gifts like socks, candles, mugs, cards - many of which are literary-themed. Lark & Owl is attached to Monument Cafe, and their remodel of the space is perfect for a bookstore. It's like it was always meant to be there. They also have a bar and you can order food/drinks, although we didn't do that this time. It was busy when we were there and it was great to see people using the kid's area to read to their kiddos, sipping coffee and sitting at the bar, and browsing the shelves. It's just off the square, in a very walkable area and parking is pretty easy. Definitely becoming one of my favorite local bookstores in the country.

Rain W.

Yelp
3.5 This is a cute little bookstore. There are two small sections for graphic novels and a decent supply of literary novels. There was a little cafe but we didn't really check it out. They do have a loyalty card where youncan get $25 off if you hit all 10 punches. Parking was ok. Masks are required but they have some at the door.

Morrissey J.

Yelp
Lark & Owl is a terrific, locally owned bookstore started by a team of well-read women who know and love books. Prices are not discounted, but it's worth it to support a group of dedicated local entrepreneurs who want to bring literary choice to Georgetown and environs. The children's area is a wonderful place for kids to explore books and sit comfortably in the nooks and read to determine which books they want to read and own. My two grandchildren spent nearly an hour and finally excitedly settled on the books they most wanted. No one rushed them and one of the owners took time to help my grandson find the book series he wanted. She pulled all the books on the series off the shelf and invited him to sit and figure out which one he wanted. You can't do that on Amazon! The adult section covers the gamut of Times best sellers plus a few surprises. The staff is ready to help and will order any book if you can't find it in the store. They already helped me by locating and ordering two books I was having trouble finding. Besides the books, there is a diverse selection of gifts and a bistro with comfortable seating, coffee and extras. Give Lark & Owl a chance and you won't be sorry. Besides, it's great to support local businesswomen.

Yelp
Georgetown's newest bookstore and bistro! I LOVE this place. I do only live about 15 mins away now so that's a plus. They haven't officially open yet (Opening Party is Thursday, August 29th). Oh! Quick look at their website shows that they are partying all weekend! It's a lovely place. If you love bookstores, this is definitely a place you want to visit. They have parking and a children's play area that will occupy your child's time! They have mats and an upper level for the kids with lounge chairs. There's a chalk board for your child to unleash their creativity. For the adults, they have a bar and ample space for you to sit and contemplate the crissi situation of the world or just read a book. I have to say, I'm very impressed with the book collection and their set up. I love wandering around the maze like book shelves to see what I can discover. Needless to say, I will be here quite often. I also spied a fig tree in their outdoor courtyard. I'm not sure about their plans or that area but I can only imagine how nice it will be to be in that courtyard during the cooler months! Good luck L&O! You guys are my favorite bookstore and all my book purchases belongs to you!

Yelp
A new place that has opened is a super cute bookstore and bistro in Georgetown called Lark and Owl. During the day they serve yummy sandwiches and breakfast things plus coffee and wine. It's quiet and well decorated. Multiple seating areas. The book selection is exciting. They have the sections well labeled and I got the impression the owner is fun. As an example, I had to chuckle when I saw Parenting and Comedy in the same section. Yes! Those ARE needed together. It's all new, clean, and fresh; Not anything like a dusty old bookstore that some people think of when they think "bookstore". I would say the vibe is like a quiet Central Perk from Friends meets books. At night they open up a garden bistro outside with trees and patio lights hung up. https://yelp.to/lRIY5oab1kb

Yelp
Such a lovely, warm, quirky, welcoming, inclusive, independent bookstore. This bookstore is well laid out with treasures of all sorts from books to gifts spread throughout. Their recommendations were well solid and varied and the displays were well designed and curated. I loved the section devoted to Hispanic Heritage Month and was delighted to see such a range of voices represented. I was pleased to see them not just showing passive support for diversity but celebrating it with this display and other displays throughout the store. Likewise, after walking around the square disappointed by shoppers and staff in surrounding shops being maskless, I appreciated their commitment to the community in insisting on masks and enforcing it. I would go out of my way to visit this bookstore again as it represents the best of independent bookstores.

Lee P.

Yelp
What a fantastic bookstore! They have a wide array of books for just about any topic imaginable, and the conjoined bistro is an additional positive note that makes the visit even more worthwhile than it already is. What's more, the staff and owners seem to echo the values I espouse - critically following science, sociopolitical justice and intersectional inclusivity. The people are warm, friendly, wore masks the entire time and were knowledgeable in the books they have. I will happily go back & support this fantastic local business.

Everything is so cute. They have diapers and period stuff in the bathroom. They are giving back to the community. I wish them every success. I have been 3 times now during the soft open and it has just been wonderful. Kitchen is small but the food has been delicious. Hot snickerdoodle right out of the oven was TO DIE FOR.

Yelp
Cute little book store! The spinach artichoke dip is AMAZING and is just the cutest place to read a book

Yelp
Love this book store so much! We used to go a lot before the pandemic and really enjoyed the delicious food in the bistro, the bustling atmosphere, and the fun and cozy kids' section. They always have so much new stuff displayed and their book selection is excellent. Everyone who works there is super friendly, too!
