7 New Things To Do & Eat In Chicago This Week April 13, 2021

"Lark recently reopened their fantastic back patio, and if you’re a fan of RuPaul’s Drag Race, you should know about this Lakeview restaurant. During the month of April they host “RuPaul Dinner and a Show” on Friday’s at 7pm. They play episodes of season 13 with the sound on, and you can watch while eating pizza, drinking way too many cocktails, and lip-syncing for your ride home." - adrian kane

"This small, sweet building overlooks an abbey and a cathedral in the centre of this historic market town. Over the years, it has been a police station, a bus shelter and a florist; now it’s a pared-back restaurant with polished concrete floors and modern art adorning the whitewashed walls. Choose from a great range of modern small plates that deliver satisfying, carefully judged flavours with a definite Mediterranean influence. Dishes could include tempura courgette flower or sopressini cacio e pepe – if you can’t make your mind up, go for the ‘Kitchen Selection’." - Michelin Inspector

A flavour sensation! I will run out of adjectives to describe how delightful this meal was. A small plate concept and we ordered 8 dishes between 2 of us. The flavour and presentation was immaculate for every plate. The cod was zingy, the pea croquettes smooth and the pork was 'meaty'. Service was very attentive, friendly and informative. Cannot wait to go back.

Exceptionally good restaurant with consistently strong seasonal dishes. Tapas style menu allows the kitchen to showcase a variety of flavours and techniques. Service is attentive and warm without being overbearing despite the dining setting bordering on very cosey. Good value for money Would recommend ensuring dish sizes before ordering if in a larger group as some of the smaller dishes would need to be divided to a point of barely a mouthful each. Overall comfortably one of Suffolk’s best offerings.

Very very good food, thank you. Had Saturday lunch today and it was brilliant, well served as well as good value. They do marvels considering the size of the place is teeny tiny. We had the menu of the day, now laying in the hammock trying to work it off. Huzzah! Hope to go back soon.

Saturday lunch this weekend and fortunate to get a booking as it was very busy. Lovely well cooked food, excellent pacing and in particular appreciated the variety of non alcoholic drinks available as we were driving. Lovely staff and great atmosphere albeit it quite crowded as the space is small. Would def come back to try more dishes! The cod and langoustines were stand out dishes!

You're reading this because you want to get an idea of whether Lark is worth a visit and is any good. Details are below, but in short, "No" it's not. There are plenty of much better places to go in BSE to spend your time and money. Tinned anchovies at £2 a slither and specials weighing in at £5 a mouthful; they were good - but not that good; and the service was abysmal. The set up of Lark is a tapas style structure of dining - "nibbles" are first and "small plates" next which offer a bit more of a substantial portion size. It's small with just 18 table covers plus 2 on high stools and we were first in, ahead of it getting filled up about 30-40 minutes after. Our aperitif, wine, "nibbles" and first 2 "small plates " were served all okay - although the waitress did clear the table whilst I was just finishing (knife and fork still in hand). We then waited - watching all others who had entered the door after we'd placed our order being served, trying to eek out the enjoyment of our wine and desperately trying to catch the eye of the staff. Patiently, we waited, and waited, and waited - 30 minutes in fact just sitting there as an empty table; and no one noticed?!? The point at which a table of 4 who had arrived 25 minutes after us had been presented with their bill and left was the final straw. I got up and asked for our bill for the things we had had - "it's coming right away" they said, with shocked faces (quite clearly realising that they'd forgotten we had further dishes to come). 5 minutes later the food arrived - but still one plate missing (we didn't bother to ask!). Now these 2 plates totalled £45 - we wanted to savour them, appreciate the taste sensation and enjoy with our wine. Wine had gone (you can only nurse 1/2 a bottle each for so long), time was running out (we'd been there nearly 2 hours and had the cinema booked) and the 'small' plates lived up to their description - literally consumed in 5 mouthfuls!! Instead of a conciliatory response when their 'ball dropping' on service was pointed out, we got a confrontational attitude that their food warranted such time from kitchen to table - really?? what exactly was chef doing - out the back killing the cow for my husbands ribs and rowing the boat for my cod? Ridiculous!! With a cursory "oh sorry" and a flourish of presenting the bill (nearly £170) we then left - bitterly disappointed. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!!

Lark, in Bury St Edmunds, is a true gem! From the moment we walked in, the service was exceptional – attentive, friendly, and genuinely passionate about the food.  The concept of small sharing plates is brilliant, allowing you to sample a delightful array of flavours.  We were absolutely blown away by the quality and creativity of each dish. The wild mushroom arancini with truffles were simply divine – perfectly crisp on the outside, creamy and intensely flavourful within, with the truffle adding a luxurious touch.  The Galicia beef was cooked to perfection, melt-in-your-mouth tender and packed with flavour.  A special mention for the sauces, deep, rich, glossy and to absolutely die for. The mackerel ceviche was a refreshing and zesty delight dresses with cubes of rhubarb, a wonderful contrast to the richer dishes. And for a sweet treat, the selection of 3 amazing desserts on the sharing platter could not be rivalled; the yuzu sorbet and passion fruit possett contrasting with rich glutinous chocolate mousse with a generous quenelle of coconut cream to flood the pallet with flavour. Beyond the standouts, we also thoroughly enjoyed the sourdough flatbread, warm and chewy, perfect for scooping up the delicious Baba ganoush.  It's clear that Lark puts a lot of thought and care into every element of the dining experience, from the carefully curated menu to the warm and inviting atmosphere.  Highly recommend for a special occasion or a memorable night out.

The food was brilliant. Before I arrived they had marked up what was gluten free on a menu. All the dishes complimented each other perfectly. Would recommend for 2-4 people, the venue is quite small but has a nice atmosphere. They didn't have gluten free bread but would bring some next time because the sauces were great.
