The Best Coffee Shops in New York City

"Larry’s Ca Phe sells small but formidable cups of Vietnamese coffee: One portion is usually enough to give you the shakes. You can have one iced with condensed milk, sea salt, and heavy cream, in the style known as cà phê muôi, or with a foamy layer of egg, for the preparation called cà phê trứng. There are standard coffee drinks, like espresso and cold brew, along with small pastries." - Eater Staff

Google
Small cute coffee shop with very strong Vietnamese style coffee. This Sunday there was a little ice cream cart pop up outside that has fun flavored ice creams with the option to do an affogato with the coffee shop inside. I hope the ice cream cart comes back 🥲. There is a restroom in the coffee shop. There is about 10 seats inside and is definitely not a place to sit too long at for.

Google
Great Vietnamese coffee spot! Very interesting flavors that you have to try. We got the black sesame matcha with honey and it was delicious! Very nutty and earthy. Moreover, the bit of honey really balanced everything out. We also tried the Vietnamese coffee and it is STRONG. You can feel it go right to the brain... just something to note. However, very good. Have to try more of the classics next time like custard coffee! Will be back

Google
Very cute neighborhood coffee spot specializing in Vietnamese drinks. I went in first thing on a Thursday morning. Not too busy, but they had a steady stream of people going in and out. I got the iced Vietnamese coffee with salted caramel foam. It was very tasty and strong. There aren’t too many places to sit (just bar seating) so I would not recommend for big groups. They are more geared towards people ordering coffee to go.

Google
What an awesome cafe with fantastic tasting beverages. We were able to try a variety of the seasonal specials and loved the unique flavors from the foams and toppings. Looking forward to coming back when new flavors come out!

Google
I got their CÀ PHÊ MUỐI - cold brew with salted foam. So strong and delicious! Can’t wait to be back to try their other coffees

Google
Amazingly fantastic flavors and quality. My husband tries flat white literally every cafe we’ve ever gone and he said this is the best flat white he’s had in nyc! We also got the Pandan sponge cake and the honeycomb Pandan cake. Plus their matcha chocolate cookie, the red bean black sesame cookie too. But the stunner of the show was a custom drink slightly experimental. MATCHA PANDAN LATTE!! When I tell you it’s the best drink I’ve ever had. They hand mix the matcha with perfect foaminess. The Pandan flavor is amazing. Wow. I wish I lived closer so I could come daily. We came here many times before and have never been disappointed but I loved loved this matcha drink. She said she usually doesn’t experiment but was open to it this time and I just think that was so sweet of her. 10/10 experience, food, and atmosphere

Google
Their Larry’s ice me is so ridiculously good if you like coconut water. They use the good coconut water (not the weird ones that have a funky bitter taste) and it pairs so extremely well with the matcha foam. If you like coconut water you must get this drink. Can’t wait to try other drinks!

Google
Tiny but very mighty spot for Viet coffee. The classic ca phe sua da was excellent and my favorite, but the egg and the coconut ones were amazing too. The pandan mochi desserts were good as well. Very very friendly staff, so kind. If you're in the area, this place is a strong recommend.

Yelp
Incredible variety of coffees. They have an egg custard coffee that is excellent in taste, just enough sweetness and flavorful. The entire taste is balanced between the coffee and the custard, making a delightful creamy experience. Similarly, the ice green (coconut water and matcha cold foam on top) is really delicious. There's a few window seats (6 to be exact) if you wanted to read a little. Place feels a little cold in the winter, especially since it's smaller and the door opens with frequent customers on the weekend I was there (which I'm glad to see!). The interior is really tastefully designed. They maximized this space with gorgeous colors and designs. The origin story Larry's Ca Phe's name is bittersweet and touching. Take a look as you put the lid on your drink.

Yelp
Service: 4.8/5 Food: 4.5/5 cute shop! very small- only like 10 counter or bench seats. quality over quantity- let me adjust the sweetness level of my coffee. good neighborhood spot with loyalty What I Ordered: - pandan hot chocolate: rich without being overly decadent. can actually taste the real chocolate, subtle pandan flavor that comes through in the aftertaste - cà phê nâu: STRONG, flavorful, I got mine with extra condensed milk

Yelp
the best viet coffee!! salted foam, egg custard (hard to find) and a coconut foam viet coffee, along with your traditional one with condensed milk.Their drinks have never missed - caffeine is strong and well made and the foam pairs perfectly without being overly sweet or overpowering. Small interior and can really only fit 2 groups for seating. There is a small bench outside for more seating. Service is friendly and they are efficient even when it's busy.

Yelp
Small cozy shop which nice interior! There's very little seating but is more of a grab and go spot. Not sure if my standards are higher coming from LA, but the viet coffee was just ok. It was a little too bitter/ sour? for my liking and didn't have a good creaminess to it that most viet coffees have. But I guess it depends on your preference!

Yelp
The perfect pit stop for caffeine and breakfast! I had a fantastic experience from start to finish. The interior is home-y and customer service is exceptional. I ordered the Ca Phe Muoi - it was delicious and strong. I also ordered an adorable $0.75 mini matcha/chocolate cookie as a sweet treat which did not disappoint. This place has amazing prices and quality drinks/items. I'll definitely be back here when in Brooklyn. Thank you, Larry's!!

Yelp
I had a coffee date with a friend here and it's such a cute spot. Unfortunately, it is a bit out of the way and not near many train stops except the L, so not very convenient. The shop is quaint with a couple counter seats facing the street for people watching. The space feels nice and modern serving up Vietnamese coffee. Since I'm not a coffee drinker, I opted for the Larry's Ice Green ($5.50 for 12oz). This drink is so unique combining coconut water with a matcha foam on top sprinkles with some coconut flakes. It's super refreshing and wells so well together, I'm surprised I haven't seen this on any other menu. I enjoy both on its own, so the combination is genius. Also tried the Everything Croissant ($4.50), which was a nice savory option for baked good. I could almost never say no to an everything croissant and this one was pretty solid. They even warmed it up for me, which was nice. This coffee shop is such a great addition to the neighborhood. Definitely come by if you're in the area to start off your day.

Yelp
Nice barista and environment, but the iced ca phe sua da has a premade cold brew base that didn't taste very fresh or specifically like Vietnamese iced coffee as opposed to any other sweetened milky cold brew. Since it's their specialty and on the pricier side, I feel like it should be held to a higher standard. It doesn't seem like a super busy commuter coffee place, so it doesn't seem necessary to do premade cold brew instead of phin dripping and cooling it off (a lot of restaurants and coffeeshops cool off their iced ca phe sua da without diluting it with melted ice somehow, but I'll admit I don't know how).

Yelp
This place is a bit far from where I live, but I'm so glad I went out of my way to come! They have a really nice selection of Vietnamese coffee drinks, along with fun tea options as well (I need to come back to try their matcha foam with coconut water). The store is pretty small, but there are four counter seats by the windows and some benches inside as well. There's some limited seating (no tables) outside on the sidewalk. They also have wifi and a bathroom, so it could be a good place to do some work or read a book if it's not too crowded. I stopped by on a Saturday, and I was surprised by how busy the cafe got for such a small space. It's definitely a neighborhood spot - the owner seemed to know a lot of customers and chatted with them when it wasn't too busy. I got the ca phe dua (coconut coffee), which was delicious - it has condensed milk so it's sweetened. I also noticed people picking up a bottle of corn milk with pandan jelly, which apparently they were offering as a weekend special, so I decided to grab one too before I left. Super unique drink - the corn milk was slightly sweetened, and the pandan jelly was herbal and refreshing. Definitely pricey (~$9) but I really liked it. The cafe also partners with An Xoi, which sells food. They had mooncakes for pickup that weekend, and it seems like they also bake the pandan chiffon cake and the pandan honeycomb cake that the cafe sells. Really loved this place - next time I'll try to come during the weekday to avoid the crowd!

Yelp
The eastern frontier of Williamsburg's gentrification alongside Kingsland Avenue has developed a different ambiance that somehow feels less abrupt within the existing vernacular architecture of the neighborhood. As a result, Larry's feels a bit more like a gathering place for regulars rather than a satellite for newcomers. More importantly, it also happens to be one of the most fantastic places in the city for getting a cup of Vietnamese coffee while perusing one of the zines they have lining the walls. Our favorite was the egg custard coffee (Cà Phê Trứng) which has all the decadence of tiramisu.

Yelp
This drink was the most refreshing thing I've ever tasted! It's coconut water topped with matcha foam. It was so delicious and not too sweet. Perfect on a hot day! I'm going to try to recreate this at home. And I'd definitely come back to try some of their other drinks. This is a small space with indoor seating by the window that could probably fit 2-3 people, and then a small bench (no table) that could fit 2. They have a few small tables outside though. Not a place to go to try to get work done because of the space but great to pick up a fun drink.

Yelp
a neighborhood cafe with locals coming in with their dogs, families with kids that baristas know by name, and specialized coffee living in vietnamese influence. what a cool spot! ordered a tiramisu overnight oats, and the egg cream coffee. both delicious! service was spectacular and vibes were homey and comforting. ive had better coffee if we want to be technical, but it's really the whole experience and conversations i had that set this place apart. will be back :)

Yelp
this place is amazing and truly my new favorite cafe in brooklyn! the drinks: i am deeply obsessed with the yuzu matcha, its perfectly refreshing and so citrus-y! the egg coffee tastes sweet with a delicious hint of cream, everything here is awesome. i would pass on the heart cookies (despite them being adorable) and get the pastries instead! the space: it's small but has a few seats the service: super super kind

Yelp
Nothing is worse than forgetting your homemade coffee on the kitchen counter. What makes it better, is coming to Larry's in your caffeine time of need. I needed something on my way into work, and was skeptical since this place was originally known as the Tar Pit, and didn't care too much for their coffee then. Larry has saved this coffee spot! I quickly checked pictures on Yelp prior to ordering and I decided on the Vietnamese salted iced coffee. Not only did this look beautiful, but it was pretty tasty! Very subtle taste to the saltiness on top, but MAN the coffee was smooth and had a wonderful depth of flavor. I was pleasantly surprised with this one, and although $5.99 is a bit much for a coffee, it's a great option when you're all out of options. Thanks Larry for saving my Thirsty Thursday!

Yelp
If Larry's weren't so far from where I live, I would come here a lot! They are a cozy space with a limited but fantastic selection of Vietnamese style custom coffee drinks. We came here with a group of 6 -- each got something different and literally all the drinks were delicious. Definitely going to come back.

Yelp
order: ca phe muoi rlly good viet coffee in brooklyn! was recommended this place from my sister and was on the lookout for some good viet coffee or matcha and this didn't disappoint. viet coffee was very strong which i liked and with the egg foam on top, added a rlly good sweetness. once it was mixed, it was creamy and made the coffee even more yummy. i bought a pandan cookie too and it was pretty good, pandan flavor was strong and not like an aftertaste haha overall: 8.5/10

Yelp
Not from this area, but I would go out of my way for the coffee here! I came to get their salted iced coffee (ca phe muoi) and it was so worth it. The salted whipped cream layered complements the coffee so well. It's subtle, but the flavors balance each other so well. Pastries and hapa cookies looked pretty good, but didn't get to try them out. The cafe is small but there's some seating, so it would be a pretty decent spot to do work in. There was a little riddle and puzzle you could solve on the counter as you wait for your coffee. I saw that they were also starting to host some events like poetry reading during the weekend. Thought that would be a cool interactive experience for all!

Yelp
This place is great! Larry's Ca Phe is a sweet spot of a Vietnamese coffee shop that offers an oasis of calmness. The ambiance is soothing and intimate, making it the perfect spot to unwind or catch up with friends. The Vietnamese coffee is exceptional - rich, aromatic, and brewed to perfection. This first time visit was a delight, with friendly staff and a cozy atmosphere that makes you feel right at home. Whether you're a coffee connoisseur or just looking for a relaxing place to enjoy a cup, Larry's Ca Phe is a must-visit. We got our usual lattes but noticed some hidden gems - I ordered a salted Vietnamese coffee that has a nostalgic taste, yet so new and creamy. The subtle saltiness was perfect. We also tried the egg coffee which has such a savory yet sweet taste. Would definitely return!

Yelp
Cute cafe on the corner not too far from Graham Ave L station. Basic cafe menu and tempting pastries at very reasonable prices. Nice seasonal drink specials and teas if you're not into coffee. Homey and quaint feel. Vietnamese iced coffee had more of an earthy woody taste, but very strong and not too sweet.

Yelp
My partner and I shared an incredible Vietnamese Iced Coffee here after a nice hour long jog. Not too much seating inside, but a great spot to go for a walking coffee. The woman working was very friendly too. You can tell it's a neighborhood spot!
google avatar

Marium A.

Yelp
Small but mighty little nook. We walked by thinking there is no seating so why even try but my gut said to try a drink and I took one sip of my friend's and decided I wanted my own because it was too amazing to share. I also love the riddles hehehe I'm proud of guessing a few scattered ones correctly. Try the one pictured and dm me for the answer if you give up lol)

Yelp
Really nice new coffee spot in the neighborhood! It's refreshing to see a Vietnamese based coffee shop open here in Williamsburg. I got the salted foam Vietnamese cold brew and it tasted delicious! Not too sweet but just the right amount of decadence. Would love to come back and try some more drinks and bakery items out next time!

Yelp
A coffee shop in honor of the owner's adoptive father -- loved reading the story while waiting for my coffee. Really good baked goods and Vietnamese coffee, highly recommend!

Hanna F.

Yelp
So yummy! We got the regular Viet coffee and Egg cream coffee. The egg cream coffee was soooo good and the pastries were amazing as well. Friendly and quick service, but definitely expect a line. It's a small cafe but they have a good amount of outdoor seating, which is really nice and dog friendly!

Elio T.

Yelp
Great, novel Viet offerings and a cute mini library that you can access while in-store!

Amelia S.

Yelp
this place is incredible, adorable, and authentic. The people working there were very nice and answered all of my questions. m I tried both the salted iced Vietnamese coffee and Matcha foam on coconut water. Will absolutely be going back and want to try all of their other things!! reasonably priced for New York City and overall incredible experience

Hannah K.

Yelp
My partner and I came down from Boston to go on a Brooklyn matcha tour. Larry's did not disappoint. We had the best matcha drink we've ever had. Whoever created the concoction of coconut water + matcha cream -- I applaud you! So unique, so refreshing, so memorable. Will absolutely be back again!!
